I live in Canada and i'll tell you one thing. If your not getting the chilled glass mug with the rootbeer inside and eating at the store your not getting the full experience. That's what truly makes a & w stick out in Canada in my opinion.

Hi, A&W is the better option for fast food. quick rundown : use of real Cheddar and Mozza cheese none of the cheese slices other places use. All meat is grass-fed and byproduct free. The root beer is normally served in restaurant in a Frozen frosted glass mug hence no ice( personally wish they had ice for drive through and delivery)as Canadians we know it has no ice and order anyway. you can still get the rootbeer float if the franchise still offers the ice-cream cones. Breakfast; the menu is quite good and if you are eating in... it is served on real plates with actual real utensils and they always have a great selection of jams, jellys, peanut butter and syrup, making it a great place to eat with friends and family. sorry to ramble. Brief history is that It started in Winnipeg in 1956 and grew separately from the U.S. A&W, which began way earlier in California in 1919. So, if you thought they’d be the same, nope-Canadian A&W is in a league of its own!
I remember going to the Canadian locations in the 1970s. They had food delivered to the car window on a tray (drive-in style). Plus they had great root beer.
Ex A&W employee here, the seasoning on the onion rings is the same we put on the burger patty. The onion rings are also prepared fresh every morning. Eggs are also cracked and cooked properly, it's not an egg patty like other fast food spots (looking at you Tim Hortons) You also could get floats when I worked there I just don't know if it's still available cause I don't eat there anymore.
Canadian here, and A&W’s is where its at. Sooo much better than other fast food chains. I recommend the uncle burger, teen burger, and the buddy burgers with the grilled onions. They actually taste like real burgers you know what I mean? You gotta get the root beer in the chilled mug. And they do have root beer floats! If you dine-in, they have some seasonings you can sprinkle on your fries/onion rings. Harvey’s ain’t bad either and you can add tons of toppings.

Their chicken strips are also 🔥 (You're right..they don't have ice bc it dilutes the drink.. Not my preference since I like my drinks icy cold but this is probably the only con @ A&W for me)

i used to work at A&W, those onion rings are handmade it's a process, the onions are separated first then dipped into their own A&W batter. i wish you tried the Beyond meat burger it's soo soo good and nashville chicken and their veggie masala burger is their new one at the moment.

The A&W by my house actually has Rootbeer with sweet cream and with ice cream. The sweet cream one is perfect IMO, because it gives the same flavour as a float, without needing to wait for anything to melt or incorporate.
Some A&W places here in Eastern Ont Canada offer "Coney" sauce.. kinda tomato meat sauce on fries...( or Whistle dog sauce) I love A&W , real food , they have always had an all day breakfast.. Plus free root beer suckers ( must ask for) The Frosted glass mugs in store are awesome..only real fast food I have as a treat.
That’s been around since I was a kid here in California and I’m now 65 . They were drive up like the drive in theaters where the waitress broiled come out to your car , take your order and attach a tray to the outside window of your car . Was pretty cool . Canada in my experience has way better QUALITY FOOD then here in the States .
They used to make a great grandpa.....4 patties....and I had a greatest grandpa...5 patties...back in the late 70's...their milkshakes were the bomb...❤
The A&W's in my area don't deliver the floats because they'd need to send it in separate cups for the ice cream and root beer, that's probably why you couldn't get the classic.
hot take A&W is good, but it comes with its expensive price for fast food. I go there when I want a burger, but not a burger that taste anything like fast food in a weird way (i.e McDonald’s, Wendy’s etc). It has its “own” taste
A&Dubs is a classic, bro! Their chicken is a bit mid though, but all of their burgers are awesome. You get a bacon cheese on that grandpa and it's your meal for the day, or you need to take a long walk lol. Inside, they got some of that spice mix that they put on the rings, in a salt shaker, and it's just great on literally anything they serve and especially poutine! Open your burger and shake some of that tang on your mayo a bit. Delicious!

They were drive up like the drive in theaters where the waitress broiled come out to your car , take your order and attach a tray to the outside window of your car .

The A&W's in my area don't deliver the floats because they'd need to send it in separate cups for the ice cream and root beer, that's probably why you couldn't get the classic.
hot take A&W is good, but it comes with its expensive price for fast food. I go there when I want a burger, but not a burger that taste anything like fast food in a weird way (i.e McDonald’s, Wendy’s etc). It has its “own” taste
The poutine from A&W is probably one of my favs, over the years it’s probably one of the only fast food joint poutines I’ll still get

A&Dubs is a classic, bro! Their chicken is a bit mid though, but all of their burgers are awesome. You get a bacon cheese on that grandpa and it's your meal for the day, or you need to take a long walk lol. Inside, they got some of that spice mix that they put on the rings, in a salt shaker, and it's just great on literally anything they serve and especially poutine! Open your burger and shake some of that tang on your mayo a bit. Delicious!
