Thank you for sharing and being so transparent about relationship changes after baby. My spouse and I had also been together for almost ten years before we felt ready for baby (after grad school, stable careers, finances, etc.) and now have 6 month old twins. We knew it would be stressful and felt prepared with a rock-solid partnership. But, oof! The bickering over tiny things related to our twins is something we didn’t anticipate and it totally amplifies with other factors such as lack of sleep and busy work schedules. Definitely a new challenge for us. So glad to hear that we’re not alone!

First time dad here. LO is 6 mo old and is the light of my life. One thing that I've had to do recently is that I have to split my attention between my wife and my son. I was lucky to have a good bit of parental leave so we were doing everything together for 6 weeks she was recovering and I was very present for my son. 6 months in and Ive notice that my attention has been more focused on him and less on my wife. We have to find a balance between being husbands and fathers. Figuring out that dynamic of being a father and being a husband away from the baby is hard.
Long story short having a baby comes with changes to your entire worldview and how you interact with your spouse or significant other.
We need a break sometimes. How do you find time for intimacy and togetherness when you have a little human that needs constant care and love?

I have heard from other dads and mom's that you remember the spouse was before the child....and you will be with your spouse after your child leaves the nest. So nurture your wife. You can nurture and make time for both child and spouse. The most important thing you can give your child is a secure home. Also, as a Dad, you are modeling how to treat your wife to your son as he grows.

I’m so glad you’re doing a video on baby sleep. I’m in desperate need of help in that department and we can’t afford professional sleep trainers 😔 my nine month old shares a bed with us because he wakes literally every 20 to 30 minutes! And I’m about to start school-full time! I seriously cannot wait for the sleep video. Thank you both truly ❤️

If you can’t wait for the video, we found a book called The Good Sleeper by Dr Janet Kennedy massively helpful in getting my two to sleep independently. Gives you the science behind different methods of training and how to do them but doesn’t judge or tell you you have to do it one way. Good luck, it really helps you be a better parent once you are getting a good night’s sleep.

Excited to see your “sleep training” (although I prefer the term “sleep learning” since it is a learned skill) video! We did a modified Ferber with my oldest at 5 months and then had to re-do again at 11 months after finally getting ear tubes. My youngest is now almost 3 months and we’re “practicing” some of the skills (letting him fuss for a couple minutes before intervening, laying him down drowsy sometimes to see how he responds, etc) but obviously still too young for anything more.

Would like to ask if there are books you can recommend to new mums regarding infant/child milestones in relation to their age. Fx developments/delays one need to be aware of on a specific age/stage. And also books about on how to enhance their development in all aspects (physical, cognitive, emotional and social).

I’m wondering if by then, the baby is old enough, especially with the contact, that he will better remember his dad when he comes back home.

I was a Nanny 20 years before having my baby( after years of infertility). I had parents who had me sleep train and parents who didn't want to. I know it is controversial, but my honest experience is the babies who were sleep trained were the happiest. Because they were getting rest. The parents against sleep training were the most stressed. I had 2 Mom's who hated Motherhood because they had toddlers and older babies who woke and kept up Mommy all night over a year old. I wish people who were against it would understand......you meet All needs before laying them down. You aren't laying them down hungry etc....People have the wrong idea of what it is. I planned to sleep train my daughter and on her own she started sleeping through the night around 8 weeks. That being said, there were times w sleep regression as she was 6 months and 9 months we did let her cry it out. But, I always checked on her first. Nobody wants their baby to cry or be upset. I really feel for the Mom's who hate motherhood because their 1 year old can't sleep. It breaks my heart. My wish as a former Nanny is people would research sleep training and all the methods before assuming you aren't meeting a baby's needs.

    • @rachelle2227

Totally! Sleep training saved my husband, me, and the baby! After a few weeks, she cried so much less getting to sleep, and she can get to sleep faster on her own than I could rocking her to sleep. She’s rolls over, hand in mouth, and falls to sleep very quickly now.
She went from sleeping 11 hours at best, to about 14.5 hours when we sleep trained at 4.5 months. She was so much happier and less fussy! The crying was hard, but after the first time we put her down, she would fall to sleep or back to sleep within fifteen minutes.

I love you guys and have really appreciated the science based advice you’ve given. Would love you to talk about the blind spots in sleep training research and some of the downsides (eg requires redoing after regressions often many times, often doesn’t work). Personally, I don’t really believe in the modern form of “sleep training” which generally encourages night weaning/removing the breast association of sleep, strict schedules, avoidance of eye contact, wanting your baby to sleep alone and independently at crazy young ages, and ultimately reducing or removing natural parental response to the baby resulting in crying (sometimes to the point of vomiting).
Sleep training research is fraught with issues, could you talk about that? For one it often centers on parent’s self reporting the reduction of night wakings. Self reporting is generally poor data, and also, babies are MEANT to night wake and night wakings/arousals are related to a reduction in SIDS risk. In the US we also don’t talk about co sleeping through a risk lens, instead we take a “zero tolerance” approach rather than acknowledging most parents will end up sleeping on an unsafe sleep surface with their baby rather than being empowered to follow the Safe Sleep 7 and safely co sleep (with co sleeping being a way to help make night wakings easier on parents and also is frankly the global/historical norm).
Finally, my personal experience of responsive parenting and following my baby’s cues has made me WAY less anxious. Parents - your baby’s sleep is developmental not behavioral. Yes you can have sleep associations and if they work for you great. But if they don’t, you absolutely don’t need to follow “sleep trainers” (TCB is just Ferber, make no mistake).
If you’re looking for alternative views on sleep training check out @heysleepybaby on IG.

Interested in this. I broke down and have started cosleeping (with the safe sleep 7!) with my LO. I am a breastfeeding mama and felt like I was breaking at the cracks with all the night wakings and feedings until we changed our sleep situation, and I could safely bring baby into bed with me. Both baby & I actually get rest at night now. 💗 But, we do struggle with getting baby down for nap time. 😵‍💫 Very excited to hear about sleep from your perspective!

Well, she can. You can practice safe sleep 7 to reduce the risk, but babies can suffocate with a regular sheet.

    • @ashlieleavelle
      @ashlieleavelle 2 роки тому

One thing that helps reduce night feedings is do regular feedings during the day. At her age, she can get most of her feedings in a 12 hour period. Example 7:30am to 7:30 pm. She may still need a " dream feed" a few hours after bedtime, but if you figure out how much sheneeds, space out the bottles in increments through the day with ALL her oz requirements. Then she won't be hungry through the night. My daughter did 24 oz. She had a bottle at 7am, 11am, 3pm and 7pm. 6 oz . But she slept through the night. Also, you can add cereal or some vegetables for dinner. Baby food helps too!
