      Congrats mama. Feeling those little kicks totally makes it more real. Wait till you can see him/her moving through your belly! It’s just wild!! So glad the videos are helpful. Pregnancy is certainly a roller coaster of emotions and some anxiety is normal-but if you ever feel like it’s getting out of control, talk with your OB about it!!

    Thank you for this video. Really helpful information. My 3rd and final baby arrived so quickly that I gave birth unassisted in the hospital parking garage. This resulted in my baby not receiving a medical evaluation until 10-15 mins postpartum. There was multiple concerns about my baby’s health but so far so good.

    I do not think my babies had blood screenings that had results reported much later. But they did require a hearing test done at the hospital before we left - this was not mentioned as one of the tests in this video.
    Also, we could choose to do any vaccinations at our pediatricians after going home instead of in hospital.

    The fact that delayed cord cutting is now becoming standard is good news. When I gave birth the first time in 2011 I asked for delayed cord clamping/cutting and the doctor treated me like I was crazy. Basically told me I would bleed out and possibly die if they delayed cord cutting.

    I just found your videos so I'm sorry if you have already done one about this but you should do a video on the first few days when baby needs extra help (so when it's not a normal experience). I had high BP during pregnancy so my obgyn chose to induce me at 35 weeks. I needed up having to have a C-section because my baby was in distress once the pitocin was started and was born at 3lbs 15oz. I wasn't able to hold him for 30+ hours and we spent 6 days in the hospital. I would love to see a video on what a pediatrician wants a parent to know in this kind of situation.

    How could a newborn get hepatitis B?

    • @small_sand_pile7923
      @small_sand_pile7923 Рік тому +4

      It can be transferred through bodily fluids. It is not just an STD-altough that is a common form of the disease transmission. The mother could have it or be a carrier, and there could also be some mess that leaves the baby exposed to it without caregivers being aware. Hope this helps.

    • @PaolaSanchez-hc5my
      @PaolaSanchez-hc5my 2 місяці тому

      Google it. It's not transmissible via kisses and huggies. Not even saliva (low chance). Just Google it. I had the same question. I will not be giving my baby a Hepatitis B shot, wtf

  • @ilzeberzina1485
    @ilzeberzina1485 2 роки тому +4

    The vaccination for hepatitis seems more prudent where I live (Latvia).
    In the third trimester the mother is tested for HBsAg and if the test is positive or is not done (e.g. premature birth) only then the shot is done. Because, where else would the infant get the hepatitis during the first year of life, if not from breast milk?

      Never put your baby in the car seat while still in a sleeping bag.

    How sad that doctors have been putting babies at a disadvantage for many years by routinely rushing cord clamping and only now this practice is finally going by the wayside.. doctors are seen as the experts but they aren’t always right about everything. In this case, midwives and the natural birth movement were right all along to not rush cord clamping. Goes to show that both midwives and doctors can learn from each other if they keep an open mind.

    Would Kurt be able to make a video about heart arrhythmia’s in an unborn baby? My baby girl is having PACs so I’m doing weekly bpp’s to keep an eye on things. I also have GD. I didn’t deal with either of these issues with my first so it’s stressful to say the least. But being in the cardiology field for babies, I’d like to know his take on this subject.

    I'd be curious if vitamin k is higher in plant based moms. When I log my meals occasionally in the chronometer app I blow vitamin k out of the water. It just seems weird that for thousands of years there were no vitamin k shots and in most other ways breast milk is perfectly adapted for babies.

      Vitamin k doesn't pass from mom to baby. Even if mom takes crazy amounts if vitamin k, the baby will have none. Makes me wonder if it happens for a reason?

I would recommend getting it as I was exposed to covid at work the next week and luckily evaded catching it! Also talk to your OB if you are worried about potential risks.

      Hep b vacc lasts for years. It goes way beyond the newborn stage.
      As they age and are exposed to other children and adults, you can see why it's important. Not every person they encounter is going to be "clean". Children are especially gross becuse they touch everything and stick crap in their mouth and share it with others. Hep b is transmitted by ANY bodily fluid.

    I definitely think all newborns need that CHD screen. If they had done something like that when I was born almost 49 years ago, they would've caught my CHD instead of us waiting until I was 2 years old to figure out something was wrong and actually not knowing WHAT the problem was until I was cut open for heart surgery when I was 9 in what turned out to be a severe problem they thought was initially something small. Be glad technology has gotten to the point it has so medical professionals can know ahead of time what to expect in case there is a problem. Back then, my mom didn't even have an ultrasound when she was pregnant! When I was pregnant with my miracle baby, he had a fetal ECHO to see if there was a problem before I gave birth. Then he had another one when he was 2 to find out his heart is normal even if he has an incidental murmur. If he had something wrong, we would've caught it and had proper interventions in place, including changing the hospital I gave birth at so we would have pediatric cardiologists just in case.

    • @TheDoctorsBjorkman
      @TheDoctorsBjorkman  3 роки тому

      We are also so thankful for the advances in medicine and screening, as it can prevent a lot of heartache and difficult medical treatments. It is amazing that pretty simple technology can let us know ahead of time babies could have a major issue. It sounds like you had AWESOME care for your son, and that you truly appreciate it--having been through all of the surgery for your heart yourself. Glad to hear you BOTH are doing okay.

    Hi! 😊I just recently found your channel and I love how educational your videos are! I’m a first time mom currently 28 weeks pregnant and planning on exclusively breastfeeding and pumping I’m really considering getting baby vaccinated with the vitamin K shot when she’s born. My question is that if she gets the vitamin K shot at the hospital do I still have to give her vitamin K supplements daily while I breast feed?

    • @TheDoctorsBjorkman
      @TheDoctorsBjorkman  3 роки тому +3

      Congrats on your pregnancy and being in the third trimester! You are on the homestretch. I love that you are going to try to exclusively breastfeed and pump! I’ve heard it is hard but so so worth it!!
      To answer your question-if she gets the vitamin K shot in the hospital, you do NOT have to supplement that daily while breastfeeding! It’s a one time shot in the hospital and they don’t need it again.
      If you are exclusively breastfeeding, it is recommended you supplement either you or the baby every day with Vitamin D. You can give the baby 400IU daily (it comes in a liquid form and you use a dropper) OR you can take large dose of vitamin D yourself-6400IU daily and that is enough for you to pass it to the baby via breast milk!
      Hope that is helpful. We will definitely be doing some videos about breastfeeding once our little one arrives and we have some “real life experiences” to share!!

      I have another question will you be doing a follow up video on the COVID 19 vaccine during pregnancy? Now that their are more studies on this topic? I guess my main question here would be is there any long term effects for baby or mom by getting this vaccine? And I’ve also heard of people having still births from having the COVID vaccine. Is that even possible?

      @@Martha21-o7r With all do respect, how would anyone doctor or not know if there are any long term effects from the covid19 vaccine? That goes for anyone... Including pregnant women, children or adults.
      The vaccine has not been around long enough to know. To date its been around for a tiny bit over 1 year. So, that's all anyone would have data for.
