That is an emergency operation to help you get your car out of the bad location, the only thing you can do is to get new steering lock and reprogram it that is all

what about if the car turns on and all that but i cant remove the key, position 0 to take it out, it gets stuck at 1 but i can go to 2 (dashlights on) and turn the car on as well

There is a cable connecting from the gear selector to the EIS check if it's connected

I took the steering wheel and turned it back and forth very quickly and this released the ELS and car started. I’ve done this several times now.

the right way is to diagnose with Autel/ see the codes and fix after that

I paid £150 for AA to come just to do this I felt a cunt I thought the battery had died so I went and brought a new battery which cost £170 fitted it myself and car still didn’t start so then I rang AA he came out and literally done this and started it right away what a waste of money. I googled and UA-cam it but nothing suggested the wheel was locked. I’ve had the car 3 years Mercedes a class and it’s never done this before so I was clueless but to put some light in the situation the AA guy tested my old battery and it failed the test so I was due a battery anyways. Live and you learn I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️

Replace the lock or the small motor inside the lock and you are good to go, you can also damage the lock and drive out of the location you are if unsafe
