@@AndyManCam Yeah it definitely looks rough. Awsome to see your setup.

Could help when the camera isn't on, but then I don't ride very often without a camera, so it probably wouldn't help very much. Plus larger round holes tend to whistle in the wind. TBH that vent is a bit pointless in my opinion as it's so close to the wide open bottom of the helmet anyway!
Hi Andy, great video. Just found your channel. About to start vlogging my adventures here in Germany as well. Nice to know there are other Brits on Bikes in northern Germany as well.
I just got the Cardo dual pack because of all the videos I’ve seen on them. Went for our first ride today and man was I so disappointed. Music share would cut the music on and off and back on in both modes, sometimes there would be so much static and wind noise then the mic would blast you out of the helmet and then go very low. Voice command worked when it wanted to and the distance in mesh mode was not that great. We came back and actually took them out and installed the cheap old units that actually sounded better with less noise and static. I wanted this to work for the music share and was disappointed from the start and it just got worse through the ride.
Hello nice to see you Andy, what a lovely helmet you have! Still struggling with my setup. Tea pot one has been coaching me so hopefully get there soon!
Run the speaker cable over the top of your head _under the lining_ as, usually, one of the antennas is in that cable so better range. Well, that's the theory... 😀 Don't forget the white reflective stickers if you're visiting France. (That'll screw up the nice looks of the helmet)
I would be inclined to believe that the antenna is in the blade that slides into the helmet. It seems a bit over-wide and thick for the purpose it performs. In any case, first test of the intercom with TLR showed no problems with range, so that's good. I'd also be worried about the cable over the top causing some discomfort. YOu know the story of the princess and the pea? that's my head!
@@AndyManCam The stubby aerial is for the Bluetooth and Mesh system. The aerial for the radio is usually in the speaker cable. If you don't use the radio then it's not necessary. Yeah, it was something I only found out about very recently and now my radio reception is much better.
Great set up mate ,I have 2 hjc helmets one is the cheaper cs-15 I use on my short commute and I have just purchased a Rapha 70 for more touring longer journeys and find them good comfy and stylish lids, the one negative I have with both is that when I take the helmet off I'am left with a red horizontal mark on my forehead from the inner lining,it usually goes away after about 10 minutes or so,if hjc had designed the liner a bit better the helmet would be perfect, cheers.
I wish I had saw this video on how to install a pinlock years ago. Lost count of the amount of times I've pinged the visor or pinlock insert across the room trying to get a flush fit lol
Brilliant timing Andy. Just invested in a GoPro and mic adaptor brick type thing and was contemplating where to mount it all on my RHPA. Looks like I'll be investing in some Sugru then.
Perfect timing indeed! Happy to help mate! Apparently you can do it with a curved mount. But you'd have to be very trusting of that small contact patch!
Even the lesser expensive hjc helmets are pretty decent, the Mrs (who ride her own bike) both use hjc with silver tinted visor, but its nice to change the visor if you get caught riding after dark (as old people we try to avoid this)! We use the packralk bold, I'm just curious if the separate battery of the slim lasts longer, maybe more capacity?
I'm really impressed with the quality and the price I got for this lid was fantastic at 279€. I've found that the silver visor is a great half way between full tint and clear, so i don't need to change it quite so quickly as the sun sets. But who really wants to ride in the dark anyway! For me a ride is a success when I didn't need to change the visor at all! As far as the marketing blurb goes, the battery life is exactly the same on the Bold and the Slim. The only advantage is the slimness and the only disadvantage is 300 odd metres range. But I can live with that. I just have to ride faster to keep up!
How is it with the Sugru and insurance companies? As far as I know, they accept the action cams on helmet because they are hold by the 3M stickers on the adapters, which apparently should brake off in accident, but do they accept the Sugru as well?
I’m not saying that’s not the case, but have you ever tried to remove a gopro mount in a hurry?! Unless you’ve got a hairdryer and some fishing line handy in case of an accident, that mount ain’t going anywhere!! 🤣 I think the clip on the camera will certainly break off very easily, and probably snap the tabs away from the mounting part (I’ve had this happen on bike mounted clips). But the base part is 100% staying on the helmet. In which case, it’s exactly the same as the Sugru.
Cameras are a massive faff! Sadly vital for what I do! 😆 The best thing for me so far about the PT Slim is that it catches no wind and the weight at the back balances way nicer than at the side.
I don’t like the Ulanzi brackets as it puts too much stuff sticking out the front of the helmet. Plus I’m trying out a different approach that doesn’t need the mic adapter at all.
Compared with earlier versions, I find the “sleeker” RPHA 70 is more than challenging to wear with glasses and next to impossible with thicker “protective” riding classes. Anyone else out there have a similar experience?
That's a shame. Sorry I can't comment as I haven't reached glasses state yet. But at 40, I'm sure it'll be along soon enough! Hopefully I'll have moved on to a more accommodating lid by then!! 😆
Andy just be careful with the USB charging socket on the Packtalk slim. They have a habit of breaking and the socket falls out. Ok if under warranty but still a pain in the arse. My broke just after the warranty expired. Common issue, but great intercom otherwise.
I would've loved those elongated cutouts in my Hornet ADV - ended up having to butcher my comms unit just to get it to fit properly. Even considered making the cutouts bigger before coming to my senses!
@@AndyManCam Quick question which isn't to do with ear positioning - in the past have you tried recording the audio separately and adding it back in post?
@@ontheroad103 You mean with a separate audio recorder, so that it’s not on the camera. Or do you mean record the audio at a complete other time? I’ve done the first, not keen on the second.
Where did you hide the 3.5 mm headphone socket ? It will hurt my head due to it's size. You have to make a long hole to the inner pastic... The inner liner is ot thick enough to take the diameter of the socket.
I sandwiched it between the head liner and the cheek pad. For me it was plenty thick enough to make it so that i don’t know the connector is there. All depends on how much padding you have though, i suppose.
I wish the GoPro would have some sort of in-built mic gain control. I use a Gopro 9 with the Media Mod, and I found the levels to be way too high picking my noisy breathing quite a lot. Do you not have this issue? I've already tried repositioning the mic, currently, the mic is actually inside the cheek pad.. lol. seems to be working actually a lot better than being outside together with the deadcat.
That would be good. I hate the overaggressive AGC too. even just a high and low setting would be good. On my last helmet I actually had the mic inside the cheekpad, facing directly upwards. I think after initial testing with this setup, I'm going to try that approach again.
Nice neat set up Andy have just got a new HJC I70 For myself and need the scaffolding to mount my GoPro 8 still testing the Camera Angles but happy with the Audio so far . Enjoy the new set up
I've tried a splitter in the helmet before, and had all sorts of problems with level ducking and generally quieter audio. That was before the splitter broke from the constant pressure and rubbing from my head! XD
Think sales of Sugru are about to go through the roof, I hadn't heard of it but definitely going to invest now. Set up looks sleek and new lid looks ready for some big miles. See you out there soon
Hey Dan that's a very slick set up ya got their impressive liking the HJC helmet to especially the visor removal and reattachment my Arai is a pain to change i've only manage it twice and now it will not have it at all . cheers : D
I think a video would be to short! The way i do it, i just take the camera audio from the other riders gopro. Other people have done things with an extra intercom unit connected to an audio recorder, but I’ve never tried that.
Looking slick there, my friend! I love a silver visor! Bit gutted that my Spartan Carbon GT doesn't have one, but coming round slowly to the Iridium one. Good to see your chops, mate. Cracking vid.
@@AndyManCam The Carbon HJC are compatible with the smart HJC Senna systems so the battery pack goes inside a camber in the helmet. Which is nice and neat as well. The volume/control part is a bit sleaker on yours.
Not with the RPHA 70 though. It surprised me, but there isn't a battery compartment in the rear. Which is sleeker is a matter of opinion. The Sena one is certainly more pointy, but I find the Cardo Slim far lower profile on the helmet.
Hey Andy. I've just watched this video again as I'm considering the same helmet and Cardo combo for myself. I note that you've had the system for just over a year - before I splash the cash, can I ask if you have an update on both?
Hi Alex, I actually no no longer have either! The Helmet i loved, but had to have ear surgery again and it was just that little bit too tight to be taking on and off all day. So i traded up to a 90s flip front. The intercom said stopped working last summer, and so I’ve now traded up to a Packtalk edge (which I’ve not yet installed).
@@AndyManCam Many thanks for the update. The helmet looks great but perhaps I’ll consider the edge as it gets great reviews - particularly for improvements in voice activation.
I think that’s probably the clever choice. They don’t seem to have created a new version of the Slim, so I’m guessing they’ll pass that by eventually. At this link cardosystems.rfrl.co/nygnz with the code ‚andymancardo‘ you can get a bit of a discount 👍🏻
As soon as you start looking, there are LOADS of things that didn't even need fixing before!! I've got it strengthening cables, holding cables, as speaker feet, as bump stops, grip upgrades....
Thanks James. TBH I've never used the radio in any of the 4 intercoms that I've had over the years. Have to wait and see if this one will be any different!!
I also have the Slim, it all goes in but just not quite as neatly as I'd like. I have an HJC modular helmet and unfortunately the boom gets in the way of the chin curtain so I've had to use the normal mic on the front of the foam which doesn't work quite so well. OK for chatting but the "Hey Cardo" function leaves me riding down the road screaming at it 🤨 Great lid setup! Lee (formally MotoDevCam
That's annoying. So close, yet so far! I have had a little trouble with the speech recognition too. I guess I need to find the right volume/intonation! More practice needed!
I have exactly the same helmet, and communications unit. You will need to pull down your Cardo unit a bit when you plug in the USB connecter to charge it, otherwise it will likely fail within about two years. I’ve had two of them fail already. No longer on warranty! Good luck.
I have a the same helmet different colour, , gopro hero 8 with mic adapter , sena 10r, and everything fits inside chin guard, sena on the left adapter on the right, both inside.. except for camera. people spin out how slick everything is . I just took a dremel to a couple of gopro parts to get come angle on cam, and so it sits at the perfect angle with the top of the camera, touching the guard.. happy to email you images. it will change ur life lol
I love my RPHa 70, but I have a terrible habit of accidentally scratching the inside of the faceshield/pinlock after particularly dirty rides. Also, I scratched the interior visor.
Ouch! I've not done that with the RPHA yet. Although I did hang my last helmet on the mirror on my first ride with it, and put a dirty great scratch up the inside of the dark visor. 🤦🏻♂️
Hemorrhoid cushion is a nice touch :D but is it ok to pull those "emergency" strings if it's not... emergency? I remember instruction against that, but maybe that was some kind of irreversible case...
I did think that to begin with, but all it is, is a single point to pull the whole thing out. of course you could maybe run the risk of weakening the tabs themselves. If anything, the poppers themselves could do with a few trial runs as they were quite stiff! You'd have to really steady the riders head to pull those pads out in a oner without twisting their head a bit!
ha, have the same helmet intercom combo :) they fit and work really well togheter. And tnx for the how to on the gopro, if I ever want to attach one in the future. Ride safe
horses for courses but I prefer a side mount, though I do use the smaller GoPro Session, don't think I'd like a full blown GoPro 7/8/9 there though, I do like the perspective of a slither of visor showing in my vids, though it can be annoying if image stabilisation is on (I use my neck for that 😁)
Superb insight from start to finish. Be good to see how the mic fairs with wind noise, the Bain of my life. Sugru what an invention.. Is that an invention? creation maybe..,dunno but great anyway. How anyone can give this a thumbs down baffles me. Perfect video buddy. 👍👍👍
Thumbs down are just a part of the landscape! Without them, the ups wouldn't be so rewarding! 😜 On first testing, sadly there was a bit too much wind noise. I'm going to try it with the mic actually stuffed into the cheekpad and further away from the bottom next time.
Superb vid Andy, gives us a goal to aim for, sleek and well fitted out lid, a question if I may, shortening mic wires, I have tried this myself as most mic cables are way too long, my issue is resoldering , the wire will not take solder, hot iron, I use cored solder but will not work, help please? Look forward to the finished item and test, ride safe, Cheers
Thanks AMC again for a good one - And I'm actually just about to by a new helmet. Now I know which one ( if it fits my head ) and since I already have the Cardo Slim I also now know that it fits ;)
DId you give any thought on how to get comms you receive from your mates into the GoPro? Afaik the Packtalk does not output your own voice back out to the speakers, so you will need to somehow use a splitter the speaker output between the JBLs and the other side into the GoPro (mixing with the Gopro mike)?
The best I can come up with is to connect the iphone to the intercom and record the audio with the voice notes app. The quality isn't great, but it's better than nothing. I haven't tried this with an intercom chat yet though.
Sugru is great stuff, I use it for my chin mounts too and once it's on there you can pick the whole helmet up by the camera if you really want to. In my last crash I ground the camera down the road as I slid and it didn't budge. Minor point with the vid though, I personally found the yoyo music volume a bit offputting, just a level low volume would be preferable for me rather than boosting every time you pause for breath. Minor ting though
It really is good stuff. I personally see it the other way around. I don’t like when the narrator in a video stops talking, and the music remains inaudible. Personal taste i suppose.
Thanks for the video. Did you find there was plenty of space (diameter wise) for the Cardo speakers? I have the HJC IS-17 and the speaker recesses aren't wide enough for my Cardo ear piece so end up with mild concussion after a few hours of riding.
Nice vid , great setup ...loved the sound affects at 4:23 ;) ..

Oooh matron! It’s a trial and error affair I’m afraid.
Top pot? Tea pot? Toss.... 😂 No offence Bruce 😅
@@AndyManCam if they take are taking the piss out of me, they are not taking it out of someone else! 😄
Thank you for walking through this step by step. Curious to hear how you like the cardo unit.
My pleasure! More testing needed, but early signs mostly good!
Top video Andy! I pick up a RPHA 70 this week and I'm planning to get a Packtalk Bold so this all very helpful stuff thanks 😁
Run the speaker cable over the top of your head _under the lining_ as, usually, one of the antennas is in that cable so better range. Well, that's the theory... 😀
Don't forget the white reflective stickers if you're visiting France.
Roger. Yeah it's not something I tend to use very much. Not that interested in German radio TBH!
Cracking 👍 Wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks for allowing us all to see your beautiful shiny helmet 🤨
Cheers mate! My pleasure entirely. Hope it wasn't too dazzly...
@@AndyManCam Ooh matron
Perfect timing! Excellent advice as always, Andy.
Cheers OTR! Happy it helps! 😆
Cheers MM. Yeah I get the imprints on the head too. Because of my lack of hair, after a long ride it looks like I've got camel toe on my head!! 😆
Very entertaining, indeed! And a good job, congrats! :)
I wish I had saw this video on how to install a pinlock years ago. Lost count of the amount of times I've pinged the visor or pinlock insert across the room trying to get a flush fit lol
Haha! Sorry it took me so long! But NOW you know!! 😂
Liked your to the point concise style...Enjoyed the bit about mounting of the gopro...Thumbs up & subscribed 👍🏼
Cheers very much! Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard!
Thanks for sharing again Andy, very helpful for the camera fixing people among us 👍
My pleasure Phil. Happy to share!
Thanks for the Sugru tip! I have an AGV helmet and was trying to figure out how to mount my GoPro in the center
My pleasure! Happy moulding!
Interesting video Andy. Glad I don't have the faff of setting up a camera. The packtalk looks usable. Ride safe.
Cameras are a massive faff! Sadly vital for what I do! 😆 The best thing for me so far about the PT Slim is that it catches no wind and the weight at the back balances way nicer than at the side.
What a brilliant step by step guide...Proper job
Thanks very much Ade!
Use ulanzi bracket for your gopro and adapter
I don’t like the Ulanzi brackets as it puts too much stuff sticking out the front of the helmet. Plus I’m trying out a different approach that doesn’t need the mic adapter at all.
@@AndyManCam nice, please update if you succeed mate. Yes I also feel annoyed with the gopro adapter that is as big as a brick
This video popped up at the perfect time, I'm due a new helmet and I'm seriously considering the RPHA 70.
It's well worth considering. The choice of colours is astonishing.
Sadly you're the second person to say that. We'll have to wait and see how that goes. 🤞🏻
- The fact that you farted at 04:22 is going to make it so shareable. Great Video .
Same question hahahhahaha
Haha! It was a censoring digital flatulence deployment.
Hi Andy, hope your hop went well and your recovered . Great vid and interesting
Thanks Paul 👍 All healing well cheers.
I would've loved those elongated cutouts in my Hornet ADV - ended up having to butcher my comms unit just to get it to fit properly. Even considered making the cutouts bigger before coming to my senses!
They’re definitely a plus. Although i think I’d still like to move them a bit further!
@@AndyManCam Yeah, fair point. Think I'm lucky as I stretched my ears so I've got a bigger surface area!
Haha! That’s dedication!
As always, a good entertaining video Andy 👍👍
Cheers Chris. Glad you enjoyed it
Could you please do a video of shortening the microphone cable I'm trying to make a setup someone like this
Very slick helmet setup 👌🏻 That silver visor is just 😍
Cheers Roy. I totally agree. Silver is as good as it gets!
EPIC 4:23 !!! 😀😀😀
Besides, great video, informative and entertaining, thanks...
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
Enjoy the new set up
Cheers mate! Enjoy the wonders of camera fiddling and hope you find a good angle sooner rather than later! !
You should've got a 3.5mm splitter for the Cardo mic then used the same mic for the gopro.
Haha! I'm sure they'll be very happy! It's handy stuff just to have around the house TBH! I've always got some!
Hey Dan that's a very slick set up ya got their impressive liking the HJC helmet to especially the visor removal and reattachment
my Arai is a pain to change i've only manage it twice and now it will not have it at all . cheers : D
Cheers Marcus. The quickchange is brilliant! Andy.
Good werks AMC. Nice looking lid. And I learned something about pin locks too !
Cheers muchling! Happy to have anything to give!
Great video. Learned a lot and had some laughs. Keep it up.
Cheers mate, glad to have been of service!
Hi, can you do a vid on adding gopro and intercom audio together, thanks 👍
I think a video would be to short! The way i do it, i just take the camera audio from the other riders gopro. Other people have done things with an extra intercom unit connected to an audio recorder, but I’ve never tried that.
Looking slick there, my friend! I love a silver visor! Bit gutted that my Spartan Carbon GT doesn't have one, but coming round slowly to the Iridium one. Good to see your chops, mate. Cracking vid.
Thanks RV. Yeah, gotta love a silver one! Little bit 80's, but who cares when you look that cool! 😆
Tidy job Andy, the new lid looks the part 👌🏻
Many thanks Trevor 👍🏻
Even slicker set up on mine.
RPHA 11 Carbon with Suntint-photochromic-pinlock and a Cambox V4 Pro inside the helmet.
😅
Touché!! 😎
@@AndyManCam yes there is. But only on the Carbon version.
@@villea1841 Good to know and weird that they would only do it on the carbon one!
Why do you need the Gopro mic Adapter?.. these tiny Mics from Amazon comes already with a Usbc Adapter really tiny and slim. it works fine with me.
Plugged in to a Gopro Hero 8?
Sure
I find that hard to believe! Exactly which microphone?
Never heard of Sugru before. Fascinating stuff. Now I am in search of a problem that I can solve with it.
As soon as you start looking, there are LOADS of things that didn't even need fixing before!! I've got it strengthening cables, holding cables, as speaker feet, as bump stops, grip upgrades....
Super helpful you did a great job with explaining everything. And had a couple great laughs! Thank you!!
Many thanks! Glad to have helped!
Looks ossummmm 👌
Get well soon 🤞 exiting to see how the new lid setup works in practice
Cheers! You can see it in the last two vids! Bit of timeline shuffling going on here! 😁
Great video, Andy. Very intrigued with the Sugru... may have to try that. Thanks!
Thanks John. Sugru is well worth a look! Once you've tried it, your life is never the same again!
Very tidy install that👍🏻. I’d be interested to know what the radio reception is like before I buy the same kit.
Good luck.
Can you further develop what you mean?

I have a the same helmet different colour, , gopro hero 8 with mic adapter , sena 10r, and everything fits inside chin guard, sena on the left adapter on the right, both inside.. except for camera. people spin out how slick everything is . I just took a dremel to a couple of gopro parts to get come angle on cam, and so it sits at the perfect angle with the top of the camera, touching the guard.. happy to email you images. it will change ur life lol
Sounds interesting. I’ve obviously got a bigger chin then, as there’s no room for anything in there other than my face!!
@@AndyManCam my face doesn't touch either thing, the senator is about the same width as the mic adapter, sent u some pins on insta :)
Fantastic, really enjoyed the video, very helpful, just bought the same helmet in Carbon, Orange.

Hemorrhoid cushion is a nice touch :D but is it ok to pull those "emergency" strings if it's not... emergency? I remember instruction against that, but maybe that was some kind of irreversible case...
Solid looking setup after all... nice!
Ride safe
My pleasure! Cheers for watching!
horses for courses but I prefer a side mount, though I do use the smaller GoPro Session, don't think I'd like a full blown GoPro 7/8/9 there though, I do like the perspective of a slither of visor showing in my vids, though it can be annoying if image stabilisation is on (I use my neck for that 😁)
Yeah I'm a massive stabilisation tart. Gotta get dem cinematic visuals yo!
Nice helmet drive safe. Can't wait to see your new adventures with it.
Thanks Rory. You and me both!
In my case, i had to burn off the casing of the inner wires with a lighter before i could solder them again. Fiddly as hell, but amazingly it worked!
I like that set up, very neat indeed.
Great video, thanks for posting 👍
Thanks Andrew. It's definitely the sleekest setup I've had so far. Probably a little bit of improvement to be made too!
Grouse video bloke, best helmet instal I’ve come across. I’ll give you fiddy to fit mine out.
Thanks very much Simon! That could be a good business model! 😉 Sadly I hate doing it just as much as you do!! 😆
Thanks AMC again for a good one - And I'm actually just about to by a new helmet. Now I know which one ( if it fits my head ) and since I already have the Cardo Slim I also now know that it fits ;)
Very happy to help you decide! 👍🏻 So far I'm really happy with the setup. Just hope that my newly shaped ear still fits in there!! 🤣
Cheers Phil. Yeah i had no trouble getting the JBL speakers to fit 👍🏻
Looks good! Hopefully you recovered from your surgery 😎👍
Cheers Garth. The healing is coming along nicely thanks mate! 👍🏻
