The acting on his behalf just makes rewatching after the final plot twist be much more impactful. X can be shown as tough in physical and be skilled at driving, but he just couldn’t manage to hide his own shock at his little brother’s disdain at what Rex “died” to achieve. On a deeper level, he most likely expected Speed to understand why his legacy was important, yet he got a totally different outcome.
And even more depressing is the scene that came afterwards. When Speed’s father told Speed that he regrets telling Rex that he won’t welcome him again, and that he values his work more than his son. Rex “died” with that cross on his back, the cross that his family won’t mourn his actions for trying to do the right thing, and that his only hope was that Speed would be able to acknowledge his legacy on some level, but nothing came to his end. Just makes him an insanely tragic character which I hoped would have received a better ending.
Personally, I don't think this movie needs a sequel at all. The fact that X has to live with his mistakes is tragic, but kind of beautiful in a way. In regards to closure, I think the family got that by watching Speed win the Casa Cristo where Rex died, as well as allowing Pops a second chance when it came to letting Speed go where he tried to clip Rex's wings. Spritle never even met his older brother and the rest of the Racer family seems to be at peace now with the loss of their son. Is it a sad fate for a good man? Yes. But... I kind of appreciate that.
Something that's super impressive is both speed and rex still have perfect control on the Thunderhead Track, despite both their cars not being meant for it. Thunderhead is a T180 track, meaning cars with rocket boosters on the rear and rear wheels that turn. Their cars here dont have either. The entire track is made of slippery forged steel, so they barely have grip on it either. It shows just how truly exceptional they are at not just driving, but truly controling their cars that they can drive in this completely incompatible track.
if we go by Speed flashback during the opening scene, the two brothers spend their times on Mach 4 on Thunderhead after school really shows their dedication and hone their skill that even driving a traditional wheelbase on Thunderhead look like sunday stroll.
thunderhead doesnt have many loops, crazy jumps or extremely steep climbing corners like the other T-180 meant tracks we saw in the movie, i think it only has one straightforward jump, but if the car has a strong enough suspension and can reach the required speed to make the jumps, all youre missing is the skill to excentially drive on ice due to the low grip on the track. and hey, ayrton senna could drift an F1 car in the hard rain, so imagine speed might be an even more legendary driver than senna.

You know, when I saw this scene in the context that x was lying, it hit me really hard cuz that moment he said “I just hope that when you do...that I’m there to see it 🙂” it made me realize that his brother really was proud of him, and when the detective said “you think you made a mistake not telling them what happened” I legit fucking called it and I loved it
My favorite parts are when X genuinely smiles when he says “I’m sure your brother would be proud of you” and when he looks down at the end with excitement knowing his brother has what it takes and will figure it out
One of my favorite lines in the movie, is when Rex is watching Speed and the woman says something like, "he's going to be very good", Rex sighs and says..."No, he going to be the best." I can hear and feel the conflict that Rex is feeling. Proud of course but knows what that life comes with and what Speed is in store for...because he is living proof of the result.

He would be an incredible Batman and Bruce Wayne. Mabey not in a live action movie but mabey in a TV series like Smallville but he has fully become Batman. For some reason his voice hits hard, and I think if he played Batman he would try to save and help the villans like he did in the Animated Series.

I love this scene because of the music especially, the OST track is titled “He ain’t heavy,” which is a reference to an old ballad titled “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.” It revealed Racer X was Rex just through the names. Also I just loved this scene in general.
It was always a really cunning and underrated plot device to put the theory that Racer X is Rex right out in front at the start, and show Speed and Trixie making the obvious conclusion rather than remain ignorant due to the demands of the plot. And then, use the cliche twist to unveil a bigger twist, that X is not, in fact, Rex. Only to place this swerve back within the original framework at the end when the audience is allowed to see X is really Rex after all.
You can see in rexs eyes right after he take off his max, and speed says “you’re not Rex” that he’s hurting, he hates that he can’t tell speed he’s Rex.
This movie was rank number 10 on Watchmojo's channel for being one of the worst live action movies based off of anime, and after watching this scene I have to ask. HOW?!!
Based on what I’ve seen on Watchmojo, they are wrong on just about everything, to the point of thinking that Jethro Tull was one of The Beverly Hillbillies. Critics tend to have 2 critical flaws in how they view films: 1) They think they are removed from the general audience (they’re not, they are part of it, the only thing separating them from the crowd is their writing abilities), 2) They tend towards groupthink and trend-hopping with their own little clique. This is why people gravitated towards Siskel and Ebert, for that rare instance where critics would actually disagree with each other.
I always loved this scene cause it addressed a potental plot flaw/hole I'm sure all of us knew about watching the cartoon. One slip of the mask and Rex's secret is blown, and yes during the Casta Cristo Ninja fight X still does the hammy makeshift mask moment that those of us in the know expected, but this, seeing X's face and it NOT being Rex's face was like wating to hit a hole and finding it paved over. Plus the actors for Rex and X look enough alike that it's not unbeleivible one was the other.
This is one of the best scenes in the movie imo. It allows us to see how much Rex still cared about His family and How far He was willing to go to protect them and help His little brother succeed. When He heard what Royalton was doing to His family, He went back to their home with the CIB to help do something about it, even if it meant Him actually dying this time in a rally race. He definitely knew Pops wouldn't allow Speed to go but He went to get and help Speed because He knew how much Speed cared about His family and wanted to protect His family from Royalton. Rex also knew that even if Pops didn’t allow Speed that Speed would still come anyways. Finally, his speech here shows how proud He was of what His little brother chose to do. He was proud that Speed chose to protect His family, even if it did seem like winning the Rally Race was pointless because of how it turned out. Rex wanted to let Speed know that it wasn't pointless and that He didn’t make the same mistakes. He wanted His brother to feel proud and happy for not only winning the race but sticking to His beliefs and doing what He can to help His family even if it meant possibly ruining His relationship with Pops. Most of all though, He wanted His brother to succeed. Rex didn’t want to see Speed give up because He knew how good Speed is/was. He knew that Speed could achieve what He couldn't. He knew that if Speed kept on going that He would change the racing world. And He wanted to see Speed succeed at it more than anyone else.
i still wish there was a sequel where he reveals he is Rex and Royalton takes his money and bails himself somehow, with Cannonball Taylor coming back dangerous for personal reasons
the anger, the frustration, and the utter anguish over his actions not amounting to anything to fight back against Royalton from hurting Speed and his family.
This was the part in the movie that it went from flashy cheese to a real homage to the show. The moment it unintentionally elevated itself. The moment it became one of my favorites. I only hope to write something so unexpectedly well one day.
This was Peak Matthew Fox "Lost"-esque acting. God the first 3 seasons of that show were amazing. I wish I was back doing my undergrad waiting for a new episode every week.

Now in the Speed Racer cartoon it doesn't mention anything of Rex faking his death,or getting plastic surgery..he just runs away from home and wears the max and calls himself Racer X... So I wish they would keep that aspect of his character closer to the 1960's character..but it would have been nice if this would have had a sequel And Emile Hirsch is just as bad ass driver as the orginal Speeed Racer in the movie
Would love to see a sequel, especially one on the Mammoth Car or the Car Acrobat Team (The Most Dangerous Race), two of the most popular SR episodes, become live-action. Emile Hirsch and Matthew Fox turned stellar performances in this movie.

This movie was amazing and didn’t deserve the hate it got 😢. Even watching it now as an adult it’s still a 10/10 to me.

One of my favorite lines in the movie, is when Rex is watching Speed and the woman says something like, "he's going to be very good", Rex sighs and says..."No, he going to be the best." I can hear and feel the conflict that Rex is feeling. Proud of course but knows what that life comes with and what Speed is in store for...because he is living proof of the result.

Apart from Christian Bale - Matthew Fox would make an amazing batman
He would be an incredible Batman and Bruce Wayne. Mabey not in a live action movie but mabey in a TV series like Smallville but he has fully become Batman. For some reason his voice hits hard, and I think if he played Batman he would try to save and help the villans like he did in the Animated Series.

I love this scene because of the music especially, the OST track is titled “He ain’t heavy,” which is a reference to an old ballad titled “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother.” It revealed Racer X was Rex just through the names. Also I just loved this scene in general.

It was always a really cunning and underrated plot device to put the theory that Racer X is Rex right out in front at the start, and show Speed and Trixie making the obvious conclusion rather than remain ignorant due to the demands of the plot.
And then, use the cliche twist to unveil a bigger twist, that X is not, in fact, Rex. Only to place this swerve back within the original framework at the end when the audience is allowed to see X is really Rex after all.
Not to mention that in the original TV show, it's stated that Racer X is actually Speed's brother.
You can see in rexs eyes right after he take off his max, and speed says “you’re not Rex” that he’s hurting, he hates that he can’t tell speed he’s Rex.
That last part when he hit the breaks. Awesome

This movie was rank number 10 on Watchmojo's channel for being one of the worst live action movies based off of anime, and after watching this scene I have to ask. HOW?!!
Based on what I’ve seen on Watchmojo, they are wrong on just about everything, to the point of thinking that Jethro Tull was one of The Beverly Hillbillies. Critics tend to have 2 critical flaws in how they view films: 1) They think they are removed from the general audience (they’re not, they are part of it, the only thing separating them from the crowd is their writing abilities), 2) They tend towards groupthink and trend-hopping with their own little clique. This is why people gravitated towards Siskel and Ebert, for that rare instance where critics would actually disagree with each other.
One of the best movies to embody the spirit of automobile racing
I always loved this scene cause it addressed a potental plot flaw/hole I'm sure all of us knew about watching the cartoon. One slip of the mask and Rex's secret is blown, and yes during the Casta Cristo Ninja fight X still does the hammy makeshift mask moment that those of us in the know expected, but this, seeing X's face and it NOT being Rex's face was like wating to hit a hole and finding it paved over.
Plus the actors for Rex and X look enough alike that it's not unbeleivible one was the other.

This is one of the best scenes in the movie imo. It allows us to see how much Rex still cared about His family and How far He was willing to go to protect them and help His little brother succeed.
When He heard what Royalton was doing to His family, He went back to their home with the CIB to help do something about it, even if it meant Him actually dying this time in a rally race. He definitely knew Pops wouldn't allow Speed to go but He went to get and help Speed because He knew how much Speed cared about His family and wanted to protect His family from Royalton. Rex also knew that even if Pops didn’t allow Speed that Speed would still come anyways.
Finally, his speech here shows how proud He was of what His little brother chose to do. He was proud that Speed chose to protect His family, even if it did seem like winning the Rally Race was pointless because of how it turned out. Rex wanted to let Speed know that it wasn't pointless and that He didn’t make the same mistakes. He wanted His brother to feel proud and happy for not only winning the race but sticking to His beliefs and doing what He can to help His family even if it meant possibly ruining His relationship with Pops. Most of all though, He wanted His brother to succeed. Rex didn’t want to see Speed give up because He knew how good Speed is/was. He knew that Speed could achieve what He couldn't. He knew that if Speed kept on going that He would change the racing world. And He wanted to see Speed succeed at it more than anyone else.
One of the most unappreciated movies ever.
i still wish there was a sequel where he reveals he is Rex and Royalton takes his money and bails himself somehow, with Cannonball Taylor coming back dangerous for personal reasons
I realize now how much I missed out on how emotional this scene is.
I can really feel the anger in his scream
the anger, the frustration, and the utter anguish over his actions not amounting to anything to fight back against Royalton from hurting Speed and his family.
This was the part in the movie that it went from flashy cheese to a real homage to the show.

Now in the Speed Racer cartoon it doesn't mention anything of Rex faking his death,or getting plastic surgery..he just runs away from home and wears the max and calls himself Racer X...
So I wish they would keep that aspect of his character closer to the 1960's character..but it would have been nice if this would have had a sequel

For years while in the mach 4 after the incident the moment that racer x survived the crash while training on his own to be a racer in his own right as he became speed racer's aid to take on jack cannonball taylor.
