Had same issue with a 2001 grand marquis . I tried what you did shudder fix. It didn't totally go away. I sucked 3 quarts out through dip stick. Replaced it. Did this 3 times. The 4th time i had the pan droped new filter. The shudder is gone for now. I haven't added any more shudder fix sense the pan was dropped. I recommend Motorcraft Mercon V. You will want to get as much Old fluid out of torque converter as you can. That's why I Used pump.
@@jamieb9556 The next time it acts up again I'll take it in for the fluid and filter since it's getting close to 60k anyway. The last time I took one of these cars in for a fluid and filter they billed me for 12 quarts of fluid so I'm assuming they sucked all of it out and replaced all of it and didn't just cheat me on the amount they used.
@Mr.Everything sucking it out you get bout 3 or so quarts. Dropping the about 4 1/2. Use a motorcraft craft filter. Where I live the shop let's me bring my own parts. They will need probably no more than 6 quarts to be safe. Take your own fluid. This multi use transmission fluid shops use may not agree with the transmission. The Motorcraft fluid states on back of bottle helps with shudder .
