I used to grip the gun way too tight trying to prevent the recoil thinking that would improve accuracy. But the bullet is already way gone before the recoil starts to move the gun back. So relaxing my grip a bit improved my aim.

I think grip to control recoil is more for follow up shots rather than the initial shot
