The original fighting game. So much nostalgia. I remember playing this at the skating rink in between chasing girls and eating pizza.

@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries That's like all of my memories. So many memories are tied to what game I was playing when something happened. Good and bad ones. Graduated high school - singstar with family. But Kirby, the most lovable little fluff is tied to my aunt dying when I was in 2nd grade.

The arcade version of Karate Champ takes me back. I can still remember kids crowding around it at the roller skating rink that used to be on West Kimberly Rd in Davenport. It was very popular, at least until they later got Double Dragon and then a couple of years later the 4 player TMNT arcade game! Good times!

Love this game. My Mom used to run a hotel in Ocean Shores Wa. At night, after the office closed, I would get to play in the arcade. We would preload credits into Karate Champ, Ghost and Goblins, Speed Rumbler and BattleZone. I got real good at Karate Champ. Pretty technical fighting game.

I was going to post the same! I was in fourth grade at the time and the bigger kids told me you fight the judge at the end. I got as far as the third level after it flips around and just assumed the game goes on forever, as the double speed mode was insane and took about a half hour for me to get to. Only in the days of UA-cam did I find out there is an end. Boss fight would have been cool especially in those days.

2:45 Uh, we got that game too under the name Renegade jsyk. Always recommend people go play the arcade KC game rather than NES port since it's a dual-stick game and was never translated to one stick properly. Remember playing it at the laundromat and found the unique controls hard to wrap my head around but the atmosphere and humor was definitely appealing.
OMFG My Arcade/EVERCADE used the NES port, the gall and stupidity of that. X( Nothing to approximate twin-stick on NES huh, Smash TV on NES begs to differ. ^_^ Somebody really needs to redo the NES KC port since it is rubbish.
Was just watching an Atari Legend video about IK+ and most of the games similar to KC turned out a lot better because they were designed around one joystick more. I kind of get what NES-KC was going for using a shift trigger system but perhaps one button was easier than two. Thanks for showing the iOS-KC since I wondered how that turned out. ;)

When I first played Karate Champ It was at my favorite pizzeria on 51 Colombia street in the lower east side of Manhattan NYC in 1984. That pizzeria would have 3-4 machines and would switch them every 6 months to a year. When Karate Champ showed up it was the showcase, tons of quarters would be up in reserve and my 8-year-old behind had to push my way to leave a quarter up from the steelworkers who would come for a lunchbreak, gang members, NYPD, Sanitation guys, and Punks, playing this was fun, the two joystick combo was awesome and I liked the way the moves were pulled off. My dad the following year got me in Goju Ryu Karate because of this game, the moves in the game were legit in terms of blocks and punches. The Bull part was inspired by a real bull killing by karate punch by the legendary Kyokushin Karate master Sensei Oyama in the 60s, which was portrayed by his student Sonny Chiba in Karate Bull Killer, or something like that. Call me a sadist but I actually liked the Nes version, I bought it for 19.99 at Crazy Eddies in 1987 on clearance and would play with my cousins when they visited. Great game with awesome memories, again always awesome videos PatmanQC!

I seen the arcade machine back in the days but never played it. My older brother brought the nes game as his second game and that was bad. None of my friends or his friends would offer to trade their games for that.

I remember my local arcade got Karate Champ and Kung Fu Master at the same time. I think those games may have been the beginning of martial arts games being a thing. You're on a roll, bro. Thanks for the vids!

I stole "dance aerobics " for nes from sears when I was a kid, I couldn't play it because I didn't have the power pad.

Only good thing about this game is that it was in bloodsport. Other than that, this game is a pos. Especially the nes version.

Man alive!! Great game. I was on holiday in Kissimmee in adulthood. On a rainy day the family headed to downtown Disney. They had a retro arcade..... I was for a few happy hours....I was 14 again. Fantastic.
Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Kudos Sir

Way of the Exploding Fist is still my favorite martial arts fighting game on the C=64. It's like they took Karate Champ gaming to the next level and digitized sound effects as well.

Great vid! So good, even the forever-frumpy Karate Champ judge couldn't help but to crack a smile.
I know the judge wasn't meant to look surly, just serious. ...Except in the NES version where he just looks depressed. How appropriate.

If it wasn't for games like Karate Champ, we wouldn't be having games like Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Virtual Fighter and others. Great memories playing the arcade game and NES version of Karate Champ with my friends even though the NES version wasn't good.
