Great video.. I have the 540k and the same problems with fitting the hood and doors and fenders. I put it away for about tens years lol. Ireally want to finish the model. Thanks for all your hard work and input. I fininshed the interior not knowing and the doors will not close now. So i brought new interior from modelmotorcars to do it over.
Wow! You just don't give up on those plastic hood parts, haha. Lookin' good but most folks just cut and fold them from brass or copper in a fraction of the time. It's way easier than it sounds. You just need to try it! (on the next one that is...) Regarding those chrome strips I have some info you may find helpful. Hopefully it's before you've gotten too far along. To my knowledge every metal part on Pocher kits is nickel plated brass, not chrome. So if you finish something in chrome it likely won't match the rest of the brightwork on the model. The dull kit parts can be polished like you did the radiator surround. I asked David Cox if Model Motorcars ever thought of making the trim strips for the Mercedes and he told me he and Marvin had tried but the brass strips would always distort during the plating process. And of course trying to bend them to shape once plated cracked the plating. That's why Marvin doesn't sell the trim strips. When I was building my Mercedes I used Oatey brand 1/8" leadless solder available at any home center (the stuff has a lot of nickel and silver and won't tarnish). I used files to get the triangular cross-section (they aren't flat on the real car so look closely!) and taper them down to nothing. Then I sanded, polished, and cleared the pieces once I had them in the shapes that fit the car. There are a bunch of them. Good luck. BTW, David did his Jack Warner Spezial strips in sterling silver. I heard it got expensive... 😁
Thanks for the info. I did consider doing the hood in brass, but at the moment, I’m more comfortable with plastic. But like you said, I just need to try it.
Oh, and I did notice the shape. I’ve got several pics I’ve been looking at. But, thanks for the heads up anyways. I easily could have missed that detail, so I do appreciate all the info.
I just contacted Marvin and my chrome plater. Both said there is not an issue with warping or distorting during the plating process. So I’ll continue with the original plan.
@@customfabrications I was just relaying What David Cox told me. You are clearly head-strong and very "self-reliant". I can't help you. Good luck with your modeling. Unsubscribed.
Wow. And I was only telling you what Marvin and my chrome plater said. Didn’t I thank you many times for previous info? Didn’t I say many times how I appreciate any info or ideas? So if this is how you’re going to be because I’m taking the advice of professionals instead of one of your ideas, then fine. You won’t be missed. By the way, how many other you tubers are you subscribed to that read and reply to every comment?
Hats off for you my friend. I am sooooo impressed. See you soon.
Thanks!
That looks great! Brilliant construction!!
Thanks!
