Just figured out that if you have the Rosary accessory you can use that to respawn the Griffin right in front of you instead of having to leave the area. Use the spell seal to get the drop, equip the Rosary to make the Griffin disappear, equip a different accessory to make a new one appear - full health and allows another drop. And just keep repeating.
dang... wish I had gotten far enough in the game to get the stuff needed to make that accessory... 🥲 I'm still in my first year (end of summer) and I got a meteor shower!
@@spindleblood There is a way to get the Rosary or the ingredient needed for it (Strange Tentacle) early, but both methods lean heavily on random chance. If you've got Heinz's shop renovated to the point you can see his rotating stock (the more renovations the better for a bigger selection), you can check it and then keep reloading your save to recycle his lineup. He can stock just about every item in the game (even things you haven't shipped yet), so with enough patience you can find almost anything you need. With almost every item to sift through, however, the emphasis really is on 'with enough patience'. At that point, the other route might be simpler. If you give any villager items you crafted yourself (food, medicine, easiest is usually basic shields made with one iron chunk), every five gifts they'll give you something back. What they give depends on the villager; if you want an early Rosary, your best bet is Terry, who gifts accessories. I don't know if the Rosary is among his options, but I know he gives other late-game accessories, so I suggest making at least 25 basic shields, give four of them to him (so the next one prompts a return gift), then save and load him up. If he doesn't give you what you want before you run out of shields, reload and repeat.
You also don't need to leave the area completely or if you don't have the rosary. I just found out that you can run far enough away that he despawns and then run back and he will respawn again, and you can use the seal again for another drop. I just used this trick to farm a ton of apples. Use the nine-tailed fox and use the sit still command so that it doesn't attack the Griffin, and ride away until it disappears and ride back. It seems this works with other objects as well. I was lucky to have a meteor spawn next to Atohl's End near a save point. It was also near a rune crystal which I smashed before saving. Both the Metor and the rune crystal reappeared after reloading. I wonder what else is affected...
Literally the one I'm farming now. I have a level 9 seed already. Looking forward to growing these. Someone said they can die with season change. Has this been confirmed?
The different seasonal headdress can be combined into the Four Seasons Headdress, which has DEF+35, and M.DEF+50, as well as a 7% resist to Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth (Stats from RF4)
Thank you for this! My first starfall, I didn't have any idea what to do and I couldn't find any seeds. Then I watched this video. The next starfall, I obtained about 7 Mealy Apples, tamed the Killer Griffin (I named him Inkblot), and save spammed over 20 starfall seeds (I wanted a minimum of 6 per season, so I could sell one for the shipping record, drop two in the pond for the headdresses, and use the others for recipes). This was SUPER helpful.
@@BigOppais It's randomized, so it's not consistent, but I think it was several seasons. (It wasn't quite an in-game year later, but it was getting there.) So you may be in for a bit of a wait, depending on the algorithm :-/ That said, the delay might actually end up being helpful, if you haven't yet opened the dungeon near the Killer Griffin, or aren't strong enough to tame it. I also recommend heavily utilizing your catch and taming skills in the meantime to advance them - that will make things easier. Best of luck!
Haven't tested it yet, but I've heard you can just equip a rosary and then unequip it to respawn everything too. Just got my first meteor shower day, so I'mma try it here in a bit.
Thanks for the videos you do Josh. It really helps me a lot with my gameplay. One thing though, I can confirm that you don't have to give the monsters their drops to tame them. I was able to get the killer griffin by giving it poison then the antidote grass. I went home and saved. Then I warped back and found another killer griffin there, funny thing too, I tried to tame it but made the mistake of giving it potion x, it got knocked out but actually loved the potion x that it got tamed with that one thing. LOL! I guess tough love works in games too! I now have 2 killer griffins unexpectedly. Again thanks for the uploads! Also loved your farm in Story of Seasons.
Love that meteor corn! The whole game is so wonderfully colorful. I'm not good at action combat (arthritis in my hands) so I haven't been buying any games with that style of combat. But the combat doesn't look too difficult here. I can take some action, but long protracted fights like really hard boss battles are what does my hands in. What do you think? Easy difficulty should keep combat from getting too demanding, though others have said even Normal didn't get overwhelming. Difficulty mostly affects enemy HP/damage so the lower, the lower the odds you'll run into a boss or something that'd lead you into a prolonged combat situation. Plus if you use party members they can fight for you. If you level/gear them up they could really hold their own. (and YOUR own haha)
I think lyasenu explained it pretty well! On Easy difficulty the combat shouldn't be too intense, especially if you have companions. Most boss battles won't last more than a few minutes and the combat isn't very technical. Also, I'm using the dual blades weapon type, which requires to mash the buttons quite rapidly, but there are slower weapon types as well, which I think might make things a bit more comfortable.
Hello, R. Williams! I have arthritis in my hands and wrists, so using a controller for extended battles is hard for me as well. What I’ve done in this game is picked out the staff that lets me shoot monsters from afar, thus allowing me time to react a little slower and without consequences due to being at a distance. Some bosses are annoying due to the staff not being too powerful at first (thus extending the fights unintentionally) but when you mix it with magic and/or a friend NPC, then the fights do get much easier and much faster. I would definitely recommend the game (and some comfy arthritis gloves for optimal comfort dear) as it has been a great deal of fun and I’m so happy I’ve bought it! I hope you have fun!! Hope we were helpful.
You can walk out of range and come back and that resets it. There's a tree along the ledge by the zombie looking Buffalo's and that's just out of its range u can watch it despawn from the map and that resets the seed capture
You don't actually have to leave the map. If you look at your mini map, the monster spawning mechanic in game can only supply for those monsters. So if you run just far enough to 'despawn' the killer Griffin outside your mini map range. (Where it no longer shows up there) it essentially resets it. I got around 2 stacks of mealy apples in one night this way. From the killer Griffin I ran off towards the east, where there is a spawn gate of goblins. There is a large rock pillar on the right hand side right before you get to the gate. It's around there where the 'distance' is refreshed for the killer Griffin. This mechanic works on all creatures that you need to 'respawn' like this so you can use your seed circle again.

Faster still is to customise your L-pocket to show accessories, have a rosary and any other accessory then use the Spell seal, hit L, change accessory to rosary, go back, hit L, change accessory to something else and it'll respawn. Good way to farm most monsters in this game, especially if you're after lvl10 materials.

I would imagine if it were to drop anything in the barn it'd just be regular griffin materials as for the seeds I'd imagine they would act the same way as regular crops when you sickle them but am unsure since when you break a star the level of the seed varies from 1 to 10

Hey just like to update, as of October 19 2022 the save and load still works to keep your seeds and reloading the meteor. doesnt matter where you save and reload either. Have fun!

I looked up this video because I got to my first meteor shower like 30 hours in and don't use your mealy apples on the griffin, you can tame them with normal items, bind them and bring them with you so you can give them junk items I think I used milk
How long do those areas where the meteors landed stay there. I'm new to this game and didn't know about this a few days ago after the shooting star event. Would they still be there?
Hi Josh, well, the star trick worked. I managed to get one rotten apple after killing the killer griffen too many times trying to get an apple or tame it. Next shower I'll try to get the griffen.
I didn't know about how the Mystery X and the Mealey Apple trick. I wonder how well it would work if you added 10-Fold Steel (if that's in RF 5) afterwards, if it would multiple the positive effects or multiple the negative effects of the basic Mealey.
10-fold steel reverses Object X in RF4 so I'm not sure if it would work well in RF5. I think it would just amplify the negative effects instead of making it positive.
It doesn't work. I don't have the skill needed to use A Mealey Apple but I used oil in my upgrade instead and It reversed the effects giving me nice fire resistance. When using the double Steel in 10 fold steel it reverts them back to normal again. Giving me an amazing fire weakness. But you can stack mealeys
i’m playing version 1.0.2, and i was able to tame the killer griffin with 1 manju. also, that same night, i warped home, then to the phoros woodlands, and ran back to the killer griffin’s spawn point. and another one was there! i killed it and was able to get 1 mealy apple. i repeated this 3 more times after this, but only a regular griffin was in its place.
cant u just move out of spawn range and walk back like other monsters? it seems that way if u look at 2:11 when it pops into existance on screen and on the minimap
Thank you for this comment, I was having trouble with the mealy apples was at about 6-7 resets with 3 apples terrible luck I guess also he was red named at this point so I was unsure if it was possible. I used Martin and the first boss the fox to stun him and about 12 lv 1 pumpkins later I got him !
Starfall Seeds can be farmed by save scumming. Mining points respawn if you save and load. Find a meteorite to mine close to a save point and save; Mine the meteorite for Starfall Seeds, save and then reload the exact same save. The meteorite will have respawn. This is easier then going to all 3 zones searching for the meteorite. You can just farm the same spawn over and over this way. Also you do not need to waste a Mealy Apple to tame a Killer Griffin. Most monsters in the game besides bosses can be tame with just fodder. I caught mine last night with just 4 fodder.
Gaddemmit! I'm in the part of the story where Livia took my Spell Seal away and then a few days later I got the Meteor Shower event! No way I could farm the apple and tame the Black Griffon now. Grr!
Question about Starfall Corn: Can you Hoe it to improve your soil like you can with normal corn? If so, how much does it help? And can you use the corn to cook with? If so, what's the effect of doing so?
Starfall crops do have recipes attached, but they're separate from the normal equivalents and require significantly higher skill levels. Look for "of the stars", naturally.
to correct a statement. it IS garenteed to have one meteor per-map region. - how ever there is 5 different spawn locations in each region that the meteor(s) can spawn in. But there will always be 1 in the phobos woodlands, 1 in the Kelve Valcanic Region, and one in the Lake Yumina region. also, if you save game during the day of the metors having landed, you can repeatedly harvest the metors at the same location via mining them with your hammer, then saviung, and reloading the game, then going BACk to the spots you found said metors in, rinse and repeat! - legit i got myself 8 lvl 10 starfall seeds this way - along with 5 full stacks of the starfall seeds before it even was 6PM ingame time. - figured THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH OF THAT FOR NOW! - and called it a day. lmao
The story in this one and development progression for skills/gear us kinda drab, but the end-game is sooooo legendary-tier. Oh yeah, and Lake Lumina theme for president.

I just got my meteor shower happening and I caught the killer griffin. But I’m having a lot of trouble trying to find the locations of the meteors landings. I’ve looked around the areas you did josh and nothing… do you get the meteor landings for sure the next day?

I just went to the flower shop for the first time (I just unlocked it) and yes, there is the gigantizer! So it seems like giant crops are still there. :)
Just a heads up, you do NOT need to feed the Killer Griffin mealy apples to tame him. I just tamed him using a single Gaia Crystal Shard (that I also got from farming his drops)
You can give (or even throw) basically anything to tame monsters. I found a failed dish as loot. Threw it at a random enemy to dump inventory and lower their hp. They decided to become tame instead. No brushing or anything.
OMG!... I only have the meteor shower, but I can't get the hippogriff item because Livia took the ability from me because I'm at the point in the story that I'm no longer a seed ranger...
Are the materials mined from the meteor ore determined during the meteor shower, or can you save and reload on the day that you mine them? It seems annoying to have to wait for a good chance, so it would be nice to be able to save and reload for better mining drops. I hope it's not a bug/glitch that they'll get rid of later on.

I just had my first star shower too, and unfortunately do not have the seed capture function atm so I settled for just taming it this time - only took me a stack of rocks lying nearby to work

I am a little confused so 1. Use ObjectX on your equipment of choice 2. Use Mealy Apple on equipment of choice 3. Use Tenfold steel? Is that how it works?
No, ten fold ignores the effects of Object X, so you'd just end up applying 8 Mealy apples to the item with negative stats. You can stack them together in succession though, but of course diminishing returns apply. Also, since crafting seems to work exactly like it does in RF4, with some careful sequencing you can use multiple mealy apples during crafting and upgrading (together with object X) and end up with 100% elemental resistances. Which means you're immune to all elemental damage.
I really got to know how are you auto picking up items and putting them in your bag like that @~@ ive beaten the game already and don't know how to do that
It's randomized, so sometimes you'll find a lot, other times just one or two! But once you found one, you can reload your save file after getting the starfall seeds and the meteorite will reappear.
@@JoshGamingGarden in RF4 we can use such seasonal headdress to combine it to a new head equipment (need one for each season as material)... i'm guessing it will do the same in RF5... don't forget to +10 all headdresses before using them as material to get level forging bonus.

Nice! To those who don't know the Thundering Wastes boss drops the item needed to make a rosary. The Griffin also spawns right next to the entrance.

Season change kills starfall crops leaving you with withered grass. Don't plant them to late in the season
I can confirm that the save trick for the starfall seeds still works in the english version of the game with the latest update.

I just figured out that when farming Mealy Apples, just walk far enough away from the griffon to despawn him. Run back again and he's good to go.
Mind you, this isn't all that much faster than using the two separate area transitions that are hilariously close once you unlock them.

In RF4 you could craft a head accessory out if the 4 seasonal ones and I guess it was pretty strong.

You can also use starfall crops to tame a lot of bosses in this game so you really shouldn’t be selling the crops but save them until you need them

Hey, friend! Just got my killer griffin recently, so I can't attest to long amounts of times, but as of now I haven't seen a drop from him in the barn.
I would imagine if it were to drop anything in the barn it'd just be regular griffin materials as for the seeds I'd imagine they would act the same way as regular crops when you sickle them but am unsure since when you break a star the level of the seed varies from 1 to 10

@@smurphy55656 Thank you! Yup, I just noticed on my 2nd watch that Josh picked up two LV 4 seeds in the video.
You also don't need to leave the area completely or if you don't have the rosary. I just found out that you can run far enough away that he despawns and then run back and he will respawn again, and you can use the seal again for another drop. I just used this trick to farm a ton of apples. Use the nine-tailed fox and use the sit still command so that it doesn't attack the Griffin, and ride away until it disappears and ride back. Rinse repeat.
The best use of the seasonal headdresses is without a doubt crafting the Four Seasons headdress!! Please don't just give them away :(
Shooting Star Corps can apparently be used to tame boss monsters (the first two both like the strawberry)
I get my first meteor when I’m at a point in the story where I can’t use my seal spell. 😠

Hey just like to update, as of October 19 2022 the save and load still works to keep your seeds and reloading the meteor. doesnt matter where you save and reload either. Have fun!

the Starfall Corn is so pretty 💜 oh also Starfall Strawberries are supposedly a favorite gift item for both the Kyuubi and Cerberus. So hey that's useful to know, also Cerberus is said to be fond of cakes :3
I looked up this video because I got to my first meteor shower like 30 hours in and don't use your mealy apples on the griffin, you can tame them with normal items, bind them and bring them with you so you can give them junk items

I used a flower but it does take longer to tame a monster without their preferred item

How long do those areas where the meteors landed stay there. I'm new to this game and didn't know about this a few days ago after the shooting star event. Would they still be there?
You can actually tame him by cooked item "miso eggplant" worked for me first time giving him this food item after I caught him and brush of course.

Hi Josh, well, the star trick worked. I managed to get one rotten apple after killing the killer griffen too many times trying to get an apple or tame it. Next shower I'll try to get the griffen.
I didn't know about how the Mystery X and the Mealey Apple trick. I wonder how well it would work if you added 10-Fold Steel (if that's in RF 5) afterwards, if it would multiple the positive effects or multiple the negative effects of the basic Mealey.
10-fold steel reverses Object X in RF4 so I'm not sure if it would work well in RF5. I think it would just amplify the negative effects instead of making it positive.
It doesn't work. I don't have the skill needed to use A Mealey Apple but I used oil in my upgrade instead and It reversed the effects giving me nice fire resistance.
When using the double Steel in 10 fold steel it reverts them back to normal again. Giving me an amazing fire weakness.
But you can stack mealeys
Does the killer gryphon have daily item drops once tamed?
i’m playing version 1.0.2, and i was able to tame the killer griffin with 1 manju. also, that same night, i warped home, then to the phoros woodlands, and ran back to the killer griffin’s spawn point. and another one was there! i killed it and was able to get 1 mealy apple.
i repeated this 3 more times after this, but only a regular griffin was in its place.
cant u just move out of spawn range and walk back like other monsters? it seems that way if u look at 2:11 when it pops into existance on screen and on the minimap
I was able to tame him using only level 1 cucumber. I got super lucky I suppose?
Thank you for this comment, I was having trouble with the mealy apples was at about 6-7 resets with 3 apples terrible luck I guess also he was red named at this point so I was unsure if it was possible. I used Martin and the first boss the fox to stun him and about 12 lv 1 pumpkins later I got him !

Starfall Seeds can be farmed by save scumming. Mining points respawn if you save and load. Find a meteorite to mine close to a save point and save; Mine the meteorite for Starfall Seeds, save and then reload the exact same save. The meteorite will have respawn. This is easier then going to all 3 zones searching for the meteorite. You can just farm the same spawn over and over this way. Also you do not need to waste a Mealy Apple to tame a Killer Griffin. Most monsters in the game besides bosses can be tame with just fodder. I caught mine last night with just 4 fodder.
I managed to tame the killer griffin with strawberrys so I got to keep my apples :)

Question about Starfall Corn:
Can you Hoe it to improve your soil like you can with normal corn? If so, how much does it help?
And can you use the corn to cook with? If so, what's the effect of doing so?
Starfall crops do have recipes attached, but they're separate from the normal equivalents and require significantly higher skill levels. Look for "of the stars", naturally.
I unfortunately got my star shower right after I lose the seal option :( so I'll have to wait for the next one!

to correct a statement. it IS garenteed to have one meteor per-map region. - how ever there is 5 different spawn locations in each region that the meteor(s) can spawn in.
But there will always be 1 in the phobos woodlands, 1 in the Kelve Valcanic Region, and one in the Lake Yumina region. also, if you save game during the day of the metors having landed, you can repeatedly harvest the metors at the same location via mining them with your hammer, then saviung, and reloading the game, then going BACk to the spots you found said metors in, rinse and repeat! - legit i got myself 8 lvl 10 starfall seeds this way - along with 5 full stacks of the starfall seeds before it even was 6PM ingame time. - figured THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH OF THAT FOR NOW! - and called it a day. lmao

Always one of the things I fall into with Rune Factory games is focusing too much on my character. My farm and my LEVELS oh man I focus on leveling everything so much, I end up forgetting to befriend townsfolk. Then they give me the guilt trippy "hey I miss you!" and I feel so baaaad. I just got my meteor shower happening and I caught the killer griffin. But I’m having a lot of trouble trying to find the locations of the meteors landings. I’ve looked around the areas you did josh and nothing… do you get the meteor landings for sure the next day?
I tamed the griffin with the 1 of the claws he drops, if you didn’t want to use your apples :)

So far I think the only giant crops are the shooting stars ones. I don't think you can make giant crops from regular seeds, but I'm not 100% sure!

I just went to the flower shop for the first time (I just unlocked it) and yes, there is the gigantizer! So it seems like giant crops are still there. :)

Just a heads up, you do NOT need to feed the Killer Griffin mealy apples to tame him. I just tamed him using a single Gaia Crystal Shard (that I also got from farming his drops)
You can give (or even throw) basically anything to tame monsters. I found a failed dish as loot. Threw it at a random enemy to dump inventory and lower their hp. They decided to become tame instead. No brushing or anything.
Well at least that is not Sturm super power Meteor strike.
OMG!... I only have the meteor shower, but I can't get the hippogriff item because Livia took the ability from me because I'm at the point in the story that I'm no longer a seed ranger...

Are the materials mined from the meteor ore determined during the meteor shower, or can you save and reload on the day that you mine them? It seems annoying to have to wait for a good chance, so it would be nice to be able to save and reload for better mining drops.
I hope it's not a bug/glitch that they'll get rid of later on.
Yes you can save and reload anytime during that day and the meteors will come back. :)

Hey, Josh. I have another question...how unlikely is it for me to tame that killer griffin? I am in the midst of my first meteor shower and I have some apples and I've been resetting in hopes of getting a new little friend but it would appear he hates me lol.
I don’t know if you managed to get it or not, but just wanted to say always check if you have space in your barn before you go to tame monsters!
I just had my first star shower too, and unfortunately do not have the seed capture function atm so I settled for just taming it this time - only took me a stack of rocks lying nearby to work

I was starting to get nervous about it when I hit like 10 resets. :') Out of curiosity, would you happen to know if the sirens are able to be tamed? Trying desperately to find a full list of monsters that can be tamed throughout the game, but its not working out. There are a few other monsters I would really like to tame (like the giant seahorse looking one) but I just don't know if it's even going to be possible.

No it doesn't drop them after taming 😥 So the only way to get the mealy apples would be on meteor shower days.

I am a little confused so
1. Use ObjectX on your equipment of choice
2. Use Mealy Apple on equipment of choice
3. Use Tenfold steel?
Is that how it works?
No, ten fold ignores the effects of Object X, so you'd just end up applying 8 Mealy apples to the item with negative stats. You can stack them together in succession though, but of course diminishing returns apply.
Also, since crafting seems to work exactly like it does in RF4, with some careful sequencing you can use multiple mealy apples during crafting and upgrading (together with object X) and end up with 100% elemental resistances. Which means you're immune to all elemental damage.

You just need to hold the A button continuously, run around and you'll pick-up all items of the same type!

How many starfall meteorites fall ? After a shower
It's randomized, so sometimes you'll find a lot, other times just one or two! But once you found one, you can reload your save file after getting the starfall seeds and the meteorite will reappear.

@@JoshGamingGarden in RF4 we can use such seasonal headdress to combine it to a new head equipment (need one for each season as material)... i'm guessing it will do the same in RF5...
don't forget to +10 all headdresses before using them as material to get level forging bonus.
