NFTs are, by default, a scam. You own nothing, except for a digital receipt saying you own something. If the game is turned off, your investment disappears. All NFTs have a fine print saying your down actually own the assets, just that they are being temporarily licensed to you.

honestly it's stuff like this that makes me think these fake developers think we farm sim gamers are "easy to fool" because we enjoy something so simple. we're not dumb and know our stuff, specially when they're trying to pull a fast one on us.
Oh I'm sure that's it honestly. There's definitely people who look down on people who enjoy more relaxed/casual games and think they're a much easier audience to trick into thinking their garbage is good/their scams are actually coming out just because they probably don't play very many games. I think it's horrid behavior.
Many are easy to fool, because they are casual gamers that have only ever played a handfull of games and haven't been burnt yet. And gamers in general seem to be overly trusting. So many people pre-order just to be disappointed again and again. Most "cozy game" influencers will hype up anything regardless of obvious red flags and their audience eats it up. I was happy to find this channel.
the problem is a lot of casual farm game consumers are 60-something tech-illiterate grandparents (like my mum) who haven't been brought up to recognize the seemingly obvious red flags in this sort of thing.
@@slumgummy I wish I could get my mom to play a cozy game. She'd play with me and my sister when we were little. I actually do love Josh because he's just like don't play this game it's not fun. Back to the original question....I agree with you. I am tired of wasting my hard earned money on games that influencers hawk on UA-cam and twitch and I buy and then I hate it. Now I HAVE TO watch an hour+ of game play on UA-cam before I purchase the game.
This happens in every game genre. Honestly, I don't think farm games have it the worst right now. Survival games are a nightmare, and so are souls-like games and mmo's. Generally they target those who aren't online much and just want a game to play. It's not that people are dumb, but they prey on people who don't know much about game development or the industry (the ones who don't watch youtube videos about games or read dev blogs)-- which is most players.
I just find it funny how most farming games have message about preserving nature, being conscious about what we do to the earth, and etc but then we have an NFT farming game. Just... what?
Inspector Josh saves us from the blockchain farming game! Honestly, a farming sim with NFTs in it was the last thing I expected from this vid; I thought it would be about wonky mechanics or bad demos, but NFTs are a way bigger red flag in my opinion
As soon as I heard "enhanced with modern technology" I said to myself "they're about to say blockchain/NFT's aren't they" the sooner the whole fad dies fully the better, because perhaps there's potential in the tech to be something but so far all it's used to do is to prove the idiom "a fool and his money are soon parted" true
I only learned about it from this video! I thought it looks really pretty at first, but I'm not gonna try it if it has crypto. Honestly even if they were to remove it, I don't think I'd feel comfortable supporting that studio now.
I was looking forward to it too but I didn't know it was crypto until this video. I'm just not messing with that. My friend almost got arrested for it.
As an original backer of Farm Folks you have NO idea how pissed I am at these changes. I mean seriously who need a builder/PvP/monster catching/farming/ranching/hunting and who the hell knows what else game? And the damn rabid backers have both said 'You have no right to complain' and 'Maybe this isn't the game for you' when I BACKED the frigging game based on the original premise, not this whatever the hell it is now game.
Oh as an ETA if my comment didn't make it clear, I would NOT back this on their kickstarter. Because with the rate the company is going, you'll be able to moonlight as a porn star. I mean you can do everything ELSE in the game that isn't outright illegal.😜
A thing that also wasn't mentioned in this video about NFTs is that there's usually a LIMITED NUMBER of them. I think I saw the Frost Hunter License had 409 out of 500 items sold. Outrageous costs aside, this means that at most only 500 players can ever even HAVE that enhanced game experience at any single time. Most of the people paying those ludicrous prices aren't doing it for the love of the game, they're thinking of it as buying an investment. So most likely a huge number of those people will never actually be long time players, and will instead just squat on the license hoping that OTHER long time players will buy the license off them. And of course that's just whatever that silly pay to win license is. Wait till they try to introduce animals or outfits or what have you, all with limited number NFTs; so if you want a decent chicken you need to buy an NFT chicken off of someone in the marketplace for 50 real world dollars (after converting into crypto and with additional blockchain fees, of course). It's a death spiral of no new players wanting to put ridiculous money into a game, while the small dedicated playerbase is really only there because they payed SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS to be there and are desperate to earn that investment back somehow. Almost every NFT game to date is like this.
Part 2, please!!! I love these deep-dive videos, and you do such great research on this kind of content! Farm Folks and Moonfrost made my head hurt, like WTH devs.. I just want to do farming! I like simplicity in games. See you next year, Josh! Thank you for being part of our 2024! Happy New Year!
Original Farm folks backer here. I have long accepted that my money has gone down the drain. This new version of the game is NOTHING like the original. I've kept an eye on it here and there out of curiosity. However, now that I've seen they added guns, they've really lost the plot.
Yeah. I got jumped for saying it was too much to them in a reddit thread where they were promoting another controversial game, that zoo one that looks like a rip off of SDV assets. They just had a book of excuses as to why I should support BOTH games, when I had serious concerns about both of them.
Not just that, but the bio said he quit his job and bought a farm. Who wants to bet his wife is in trad-wife mode, stuck managing his farm and raising his kid while he works on this game?
Yeah, that was weird. The "redpilled" thing is super associated with far right movements these days, so I would find it hard to trust anyone who knowingly names their studio that.
I took a first look at moonfrost and was like "Wow, this game is gorgeous and must be pretty fun too." and then you mentioned NFTS. How could such a good concept get ruined like this?
1st. The Rancher: Gigantic open world inspired byHarvMoon, The Sims, and GTA with seamless multiplayer but only 14 devs with unknown experience working on it is already a biiiiiig red flag. It's not surprising they used assets flips, a clear sign that the game will probably end up lackluster and a flop. Making a farming game with gigantic map is not easy let alone open world, it'll probably ended up with the map feeling empty and lonely. 2nd. Farm Folks: Yeaaaah, the red flag is burning at this point. 3rd. Moonfrost: There's no red flag anymore, everything's red. Once NFT's involved, the game became more for business than fun. The amount of cheating and scams would be astronomical once real money's involved.
Even the _actual_ sims developers struggled to pull off an open world, though it was moreso because the open world made badly optimized code much more of a problem than it was in the previous games
Farm Folks lowkey just looks like a Fortnite wannabe game 😭 When I saw ur title, I thought Puffpals would be here considering what's happened this year: barely any news, like one alpha update (game is still very rough), contracts involving lawyers, etc
Especially considering that the Puffpals game was SUPPOSED to release next year. I’m wondering if the devs just bit off more than they can chew since it’s their first game.
@@ann3923 it's funny because until palworld blew up, farm folks had no guns or anything of the sort. clearly a last minute decision to try and capitalize on it
It feels like some of these games are repeating the same mistakes we seen with mmos 10 years ago of going too large in scope when it's already a struggle to have a consistent player base stay interested in your games.
As a French from a rural area, Parisians and farm do not work together at all. They literally see farmers and countryside folks as inferiors (I grew up hearing the same "jokes" again and again about the countryside being empty and "cows do not count as inhabitants" when you tell them that, no, there are cities here) which is why Parisians aren't liked
Wait, so the French are even snobs to other French people?? 😭😭 Jeez lol.. Edit: I say this as a tourist that had a bad experience. Whole trip was bad. I have 7 years of French under my belt. I'm not conversationally fluent, but darn close. Treated like absolute poop. Not everywhere, but many places. I could fully understand all the stuff being said about me by waiters,, waitresses, etc.. I started lying and saying I was Canadian.(I'm a f¡Ithy american) I was treated MARGINALLY better. I know all French folk aren't like that but jeez. A lot really can be mean.
Regarding Moonfrost, I’m really curious about the developers’ reasoning behind incorporating NFT elements. The functionality provided by the FROSTER-Hunter License could easily be sold as a DLC without needing to use NFTs. In the long run, having each player purchase a DLC and pay the developers directly would likely be more beneficial than having players trade the license among themselves in NFT form. The only reason I can think of for them to sell it as an NFT is that they want to secure funding from NFT-related sponsors in the short term. Given that they’ve specifically implemented an in-game trading system for security, I’m willing to believe that their intention isn’t to scam anyone. However, prioritizing short-term funding over long-term sales still feels concerning.
A lot of NFTs also have something in their contract that means a percent of the money from purchases goes back to the original developers. So if they sell for insane amounts of money, every time it trades hands, they get some cash back.
It is a get-rich-quick scheme. They have already gotten over 4 million in investors, mostly venture capitalists and NFT scam corporations. That is 100% their motivation. NFTs are a scam aimed at selling them as fast as possible and then pulling the rug out for maximum profit before they crash. It happens EVERY TIME.
These are WILD but the new publishers of Farm Folks Crytivo sound shady. The changes are enormous and how they tried to mess with Roots of Patcha always made me upset
Not to mention their constant support of what originally looked like a SDV mod rip off. Supposedly the game is now less outright SDV asset copy, but I haven't seen anything of late. \
A couple of publishers approached me about my farming game, suggesting I make the crops and decor NFTs. I honestly refused because, before being a game developer, I’m a gamer myself, and I would absolutely HATE a game with NFT crops, haha. Though, I can’t deny the money they offered to fund development was tempting!
jesus christ, i'm so sorry you have to turn down good money :( the nft bros are such snakes, trying to get into everything, even when the developer doesn't show any interest in them
They approached you because they're already know you are an Indian scammer who worked in a call center who takes people social security number. Guys this dev using a lot of A.I. generated art, code, voice and ect from looking at all of his gameplays even the arts doesn't blend well together that's a red flag. Avoid his game as impossible.
Good thing that NFTs aren't allowed on Steam so none of these devs will ever grace my computer with their "games". That is, unless they will remove the NFT aspect.
The Ranchers team being called RedPilz, their 3d asset role being represented by a cybertruck, and most of the characters turning out to be unity assets just makes it stink of being an edgy troll scam on wholesome game fans. Redpill has been a known internet term used by creeps for decades now. You don't just call a studio that.
yeah the asset flip, stealing text from another game and extremely real "team" of devs with no surnames or online presence screams scam. I hope backers are still able to get their money back or smthn
@dessysixx2840 it's Internet slang that has its origin in the Matrix. Someone who calls themselves red pilled is essentially saying "wake up sheeple"; they think they're smarter than the rest of us and usually crazy bigoted as cherry on top.
That's mindbending. The value of something is tied to how much people want it. If the nft asset is tied to a game that is forgotten in development, it won't just magically increase in value just because you bought however many years ago. Not to mention that the games will obviously flop cause that's their intention in the first place. Get in, get the money and get out by ghosting your supporters and backers. That's the definition of a crypto scam. And what do you have to tie these games to? They have no face, no one responsible, just a business account. Good luck getting your money back when those accounts are gone. I swear, some of these games aren't even games, just videos. I know the economy sucks, but I didn't think the gaming industry would be overtaken by con artists this quickly.
And don't forget that IF somehow against all odds the game hits big, and these NFTs are suddenly worth a lot, you have ZERO recourse if they get stolen. GMs can't get them back, even if you know who stole them you can't sue them, this was seen with that big NFT situation in the news a while back. Hell nothing is stopping some scammer from selling, and stealing the same NFT back, and selling it under a different name over and over again.
Geez, that bad? I didn't know, I don't really keep up with the news post-covid. But this stuff has been happening even before covid hit, like with Feral and Neopets. And it's the speed and frequency of it that surprises me the most.
At this rate I don't think it will take too long before creation of these fake kickstarter and nft games becomes fully automated with AI generated images, videos, texts, websites, accounts, etc. And by that point indie game suport will just be overrun by the sheer number of fake projects they publish, which will probably lead to those kickstarter and similar websites shutting down as a whole.
Also the fact 409 people already bought the Moonfrost nft according to that screenshot tells me people don't realize the difference between a physical asset and a digital one. A vintage cartridge becomes more expensive over time because a lot of them break down, which means working cartridges become rarer. Digital assets don't degrade, so they won't make you money simply by existing. NFTs aren't wine, sorry cryptobros.
Nothing stop the developers from saying.. there are only 500 of these n then turning around and selling 1000 later decreasing the value of the NFT in order for the developer to make more $
These were all games I was very interested in at one point. I'm skeptical about The Ranchers delivering on what the devs announced, but I haven't removed it from my wishlist yet. The changes to Farm Folks killed any desire to play it. I don't like pvp to begin with and it just sounds like a jumbled mess now. And I won't buy games with known NFTs (I think they're a scam and quite scummy, especially at such a ridiculous price), so Moonfrost is out. I'd be interested to see what other games are on your list. Have a Happy New Year! 🎆
I had no idea about any of these, but honestly none of them look like anything I'd want to play anyways. Thanks for the heads up so in the (highly unlikely from the sounds of it) event of future hype videos, I know to keep looking the other way and trust my gut instinct. Not for me, thanks. Would love a part two!
It's too bad - Moonfrost looks so cute. I am so glad you do videos like this so the community can make informed choices. Here is hoping 2025 is a great year for you Josh! Looking forward to your next stream!
8:45 they were probably thinking they’d be praised for being so funny and memey or whatever But like… “let’s be serious for a moment… which boob jiggle physics is best” is not a good look when you aren’t making a game where the point is sexy characters (even in a gacha game it’d be judged to post things like that. You’d have to make nsfw games for it to be received well)
I’d literally take a game with microtransactions over NFTs. Don’t love those either but at least I know where my money is going. Shame too because the art in that game looks GORGEOUS. What a waste.
Your channel brought me to farming sims and then Sun Haven, it is now my favorite game, it helped me a lot, my mental health was in need of the nurture these games give to the brain, it just feels right, i guess its the human hunter gatherer instintic doing its thing xD. Happy new year and thank you!!!
Jeezus Christ, as you kept on naming modes coming to Farm Folks, I couldn't believe what was happening. "Oh, factories and conveyor belts. Okay." "... Vehicles to get around faster. Alright, that's fine." "... Guns and ghost hunting, along with a... *Checks notes* Time Travelling PVE mode...?" "Dino Crisis Mode?!?! Now they're just Jumping the Shark! ...? What? It was an April Fools post? Well, could have fooled me." Feels like they just want to make a Fortnite contender with the amount of stuff they're adding in. :\
I'm not paying the same amount of my monthly bills for something I cannot see the physical benefits of. 😥 I'm really thankful for your videos because sometimes I usually just jump into games without thinking about it. 😭
I think devs need to start smalls scale block out their game and make sure the mechanics are polished and run well. Then add in stuff so they can determine the scope before adding textures and a bunch of other stuff.
Honestly after all these stories and examples in the last few years I'm impressed people still back anything on Kickstarter or otherwise. It seems to be a scam (willingly or unwillingly) most of the time..
I've said this before, but I definitely appreciate the honesty with these videos. Ive come across some people that have nothing but positive things to say about some of these obviously fishy games. Was looking forward to the ranchers but we will see..m
I blocked Farm Folks after the director or whoever doubled down and didn't apologize for the trashy joke. Glad to see they're getting desperate since so many unfollowed them for that. I hope you make another video talking about game devs that made a mistake and are genuinely trying to fix things like Super Zoo Story changing their style to not copy SDV.
The Ranchers sounds like either the perfect simulation game, or the farming genre version of Star Citizen... And oh GOD no, Moonfrost looks so pretty, keep NFTs tf away from it! Love your videos by the way! I only discovered you recently and I love both your humour and depth of research!
Thank you for talking about the whole Moonfrost issue. I was originally so hyped for this game, specifically because it has such an unique artstyle but even besides the NFT stuff, it's such a red flag how little we actually know about the game, kinda makes it hard to truly get invested as well. It's really frustrating, I feel like there could've been potential there but there's no way I'm going to play anything that has Web3 technology attached to it.
Any game that has NFTs should just be skipped, especially if its from a AAA dev. As for the rest, ya there is a reason I don't pay for EA (never really used Kickstarter but close enough), few cases I will make an exception like GGG's newly EA for PoE 2, but it is very rare.
It's basically a technology which proves the authenticity of something like licenses or certificates. It's a good technology by itself, but obviously it's not something you would think a game needs. It's almost always a technology related to trading (and I don't mean in a necessarily scammy way, like big companies are using it to trade real life items, food, etc)
Basically it is just a encoded system that allows (mostly) digital things to be tagged with a randomized unique ID. With a unique ID, these things can be "owned" by people and then the things can be given value based on their rarity, look, benefits, etc. You can then sell or trade those IDs to other people and create a market and digital economy around it. The problem is, everything is arbitrary and has no intrinsic value. There is also nothing from stopping people from just recreating the exact same digital thing without the ID attached. Every time a NFT game or other market comes up the same thing inevitably happens. - The people who created the "thing" sell it for a ton of money to people who are scammed into thinking they are getting some unique rare thing that will have monetary value. - A bunch of hype builds up around the "thing" getting more people to buy into whatever the new shiny is. - The people at the top rug pull (meaning they sell the "things" at inflated value) crashing the market. - The "thing" loses most of its value and those who got scammed into buying it are left with nothing and lose all their money. - Lastly, the game or market shuts down so the NFT or "thing" is now completely useless in any shape or form.
Very legit reasons for concern. Somehow it seems as though the developers are more focused on the mechanics and not the “spirit” of the game. Hearing Hm64 winter theme in the background is a beautiful reminder. Thank you
Thanks so much for the research and summary of what seems strange or wrong in these games. It confirmed my gut feeling that told me to stay away from The Ranchers and Farm Folks after seeing their teaser videos. 'Too good to be true' is always a good indication that something is wrong. Never heard of Moonfrost before, thanks for the info about it, will definitely never touch it. Please continue this kind of work, it is very important for gamers!
I feel like there's sooooooo much space to innovate in the farming/'cozy' genre but all these devs seem to want to do is take Stardew (and now Palworld apparently) and make it worse and NOW they're shoving crypto into it
Putting NFTs in a cozy farming is wild. I’d bet a majority of farming sim players would be against something that harms the environment. Also the movement in game reminds me of claymation lmao
Happy new year to you too~ Thank you for building a community where I can lurk and talk about my favorite farming games with no worries. Enjoy your holiday and I hope 2025 will be kind to you♡
TRUELY soulless developers. I can’t help but laugh because they’re going to go bankrupt faster than they realize. Most games don’t make profits in the first year. Cryptivo is very tone deaf on their new Farm Folk game, its not a farming simulator. Its a Ark Wannabe. NFTs in a game, kills the fun. Trash.
I hope you get enough likes for a part two; I would love to see/hear your thoughts on the others you were also gonna cover. Thanks for the informative and awesome videos like always!
I just want to add: although I'm also sceptical about the Ranchers ever being delivered with everything they promised, especially with the little news we get, at least alpha backers got an alpha and I was having fun with it for a few hours (I think I played for 3-4 hours). I could have played more, I didn't try everything, but I stopped because I didn't want to spoil myself for the full game later.
thank you Josh for this informative and thorough video!!! I would love to see you do this as a series, but I would also love if you can do a similar video on projects in development that you are excited for! Not games already set to come out, games that are being developed still or new Kickstarter projects. I personally discovered a lot of games thanks to your recommendations!!!
Oh hey! Moonfrost is being talked about! I played the game as part of testers since an early time, and honestly. It's decent, but i REALLY wished that it wasnt an NFT shill-flop. It's very pretty visually. Unironically. Community is also sweet and welcoming, but it really still aches regardless.
I am highly optimistic for Farm Foks . I f this comes out i think it will change the whole farming genre. and hope they can pull it off. I do intend to back it, despite your negative comments about it.
As an OG FarmFolks backer, I have been slowly losing optimism for the game as it keeps going further and further away from what I had originally backed. If I could get my money back at this point, I would, honestly…. But I’m holding out hope there will be something to enjoy for me by the end of the day, still. I reeeally don’t like pvp, car riding or factory building stuff, though… And thank you so much about informing us of Moonfrost! I’ve been following them, but not too closely. I loved the art for the game, so I was looking forward to it, but not with that NFT crap in it I’m not. Unfollowed and removed from my mind. Such a waste. Thank you, Josh, for the video! Greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to the new Rune Factory game and of course I'm keeping my eye on the new Story of Seasons game. I hope that the Story of Seasons game after this one is a Remake of Animal Parade. This is definitely a great time to be a farming sim fan. We are eating good and the fact that Natsume' finally delivered a really good Harvest Moon game with Winds Of Anthos has me excited for the future there too
Time and time again I am left to wonder why game developers think adding NFTs will enhance the games. It's even more baffling to see it in a farming game. I will probably avoid it. Also I recently was browsing r/CoOpGaming and came across Crytivo posting farm folks with a post title "I'm creating a project where survival means not just gathering but producing supplies, paired with extensive building, customization, and crafting. Set in a vibrant world, it also features thrilling PvP opportunities.". While it's not technically doing illegal...it feels misleading to post something with a title like that which will make people think it's the project of a solo/ small team dev. I want to be hype for Farm Folks but only time will tell if this game can deliver even a fraction of what it is promising.
Honestly my level of hope for any NFT game is how integrated they are into it. When the market falls out for the last time if your still able to play it and the game is fun with the NFTs at best being cosmetic with no in game value (Unless the game is about cosmetic look then it's no different then a +20 ape shield) then it might be a good game. Otherwise there is no hope. It will die when they shut off the server because the price dropped or no one could sell because no one sells in NFTs. They hold onto as long as possible hoping they will be the dumper that makes a few mil.
I always find your videos interesting; I appreciate the perspective of what's going on behind the scenes because I don't see much of that from other cosy/farming game channels, and it shines a light on what goes into making a video game. I hope you enjoy the rest of 2024, and best wishes for 2025, I'm definitely looking forward to watching more of your videos.
I was pretty excited for Farm Folks at first, given I really like the change in art style, etc. But as time has gone on, I have to share your concern. Honestly, it really screams trend chasing without a clear focus, if you ask me. I guess if they pull it all off well, the game will be amazing since it has something for almost everyone, but I have serious doubt they can stick the landing of so many genres.
I remember first seeing Moonfrost and LOVING the crispness of the graphics with the pixel art style. When I learned about their use blockchain technology, it immediately ruined the hype for me 🙁
Other people have said it better, but as someone who likes farming games occasionally but isn't heavily invested in them, I have to say after watching your videos it becomes obvious when some devs are dedicated to expanding the craft of Farming Sim Games, and those who think it's a "cheap, easy" genre of game to make a few bucks for because they just don't care.
Ah, Farm Folks..I miss OG Farm Folks so badly The current build just feels confusing. You have to build a house like Fortnite. They keep on adding so much extra features...but where is the farm in FARM folks? Yay we have extra couches. What animals can we raise? How does their gardening system work? Can we install sprinklers? Have we even seen one townie? Farm Folks feels like anything but a farming game
Wait a sec. Over 700$ for a license for a game that has not been releases yet and where it's not fully disclosed yet what exactly it does ? Uhm.. it looks like the game will turn out to rather being a cute marketplace instead of a game. Looks pretty though.
ugh i was absolutely on board with moonfrost when you said it was free with that lovely art style but omfg i can't STAND crypto games or anything to do with it, what a sad thing. if they wanted to make money, they could just charge money for the game, rather than putting their players at risk
I've never quite understood the desire for a game that let's you do "everything," where you can farm and fight and build and play and and and... I feel like certain limits make games better. How do you progress if you can "do everything," you know? It's not just unrealistic from a development standpoint. It's bad design.
Really great points made by Josh on all three games & I think he’s spot on. I don’t see any of these games as promising. I think they’re all just racking in kickstarter cash but they won’t deliver.
Thanks for sharing!!! A lot of this stuff Is so wild. They think the cozy games are easy and can be cheaply made but we want good and better games, not the same rinse and repeat but worse. lol
No way is the Racher game going to pull that off. Nintendo was barely able to pull off most of these features in BOTW and TOTK. I mean in took Nintendo 2 tries to get all the features of TOTK and they have people with yrs of experience.
10:26 i’m ngl, after play animal crossing new horizons, i can understand all these modes. we are DESPERATE to play with our friends in a way that isn’t too monotonous. i made paintball in my creative map on minecraft, as a functional decorative lot, command blocks and all- but i wish i could just add random mini games into my worlds without building like a 10 layer spleef area or something yknow

Honestly, a farming sim with NFTs in it was the last thing I expected from this vid; I thought it would be about wonky mechanics or bad demos, but NFTs are a way bigger red flag in my opinion
As soon as I heard "enhanced with modern technology" I said to myself "they're about to say blockchain/NFT's aren't they" the sooner the whole fad dies fully the better, because perhaps there's potential in the tech to be something but so far all it's used to do is to prove the idiom "a fool and his money are soon parted" true
maaaaaaaaaan... I didnt know moonfrost was a crypto game. I was kind of excited for it... well now that excitement is dead
Yeah Moonfrost seems so shady. No way would I even want to associate with a crypto/NFT game.
I only learned about it from this video! I thought it looks really pretty at first, but I'm not gonna try it if it has crypto. Honestly even if they were to remove it, I don't think I'd feel comfortable supporting that studio now.
Same. The game went from "Pretty, I want it..." to "In the trash you go!" The moment I heard crypto.
Farm Folk looks more like Palworld than a FarmSim now.
It gives heavy Fortnitification vibes.
Gotta chase that Palworld money I guess.
Truth
Almost every NFT game to date is like this.
last sale was 800 dollars, terrible
The bagholders club.
Agreeeeed!!!
They just had a book of excuses as to why I should support BOTH games, when I had serious concerns about both of them.
dont forget the super necessary jiggle boobs research
Ok but a studio being named RedPillz is already a red flag on its own
100%
I don't want to support him/them based on the connotation alone...
yeah, that worried me the moment i heard it...
Farm Folks lowkey just looks like a Fortnite wannabe game 😭
When I saw ur title, I thought Puffpals would be here considering what's happened this year: barely any news, like one alpha update (game is still very rough), contracts involving lawyers, etc
Oh is that the game with the really cute plushies? That's a bummer! It looked so cute!
Also farm folks looks like Palworld. "Guns in a cute game" and all.
@@ann3923i mean guns and something cute is a pretty old concept
Especially considering that the Puffpals game was SUPPOSED to release next year.
I’m wondering if the devs just bit off more than they can chew since it’s their first game.
@@ann3923 it's funny because until palworld blew up, farm folks had no guns or anything of the sort. clearly a last minute decision to try and capitalize on it
It feels like some of these games are repeating the same mistakes we seen with mmos 10 years ago of going too large in scope when it's already a struggle to have a consistent player base stay interested in your games.
geez the kickstarter red flags on Ranchers sounds like the game will wind up on kickscammers by slopes since overpromise for that small a team
I started lying and saying I was Canadian.(I'm a f¡Ithy american)
I was treated MARGINALLY better.
I know all French folk aren't like that but jeez. A lot really can be mean.
Asking for jiggle physics opinions is crazy
Crytivo seems to be the same graveyard for farm games that gamigo is for mmos.
It breaks my heart to see something as aesthetically pleasing as Moonfrost be killed before it's even born because of nfts. :(
Regarding Moonfrost, I’m really curious about the developers’ reasoning behind incorporating NFT elements.
@@prismavoid3764 That's the sole purpose of those shit devs to implement web3 features in games... They want all the money of the world...
These are WILD but the new publishers of Farm Folks Crytivo sound shady. The changes are enormous and how they tried to mess with Roots of Patcha always made me upset
Wait, what do you mean mess with Roots of Patcha? I was thinking about getting that game, should I not?
Not to mention their constant support of what originally looked like a SDV mod rip off. Supposedly the game is now less outright SDV asset copy, but I haven't seen anything of late.
\
@@littlebee_xo no no it’s great!! but the original developer had problems with the publisher and were forced to pull it off steam for a while!
@ oh no 😥 that’s so sad! Thank you for the response!
@@littlebee_xo Sure no problem ☺️yeah thankfully they are no longer a part of Crytivo so they got their game back 💜
Moon frost is backed by the ppl who make clash of clans 🤪lol that’s wild it’s definitely PAY to PLAY
@@takimi_nada Thanks man. If I had taken the offer, it would have been hard to look in the mirror
Good thing that NFTs aren't allowed on Steam so none of these devs will ever grace my computer with their "games". That is, unless they will remove the NFT aspect.
I had a similar thought. If a game isn't out on Steam, from where I'm sitting that game doesn't exist.
@@SimuLord If it's not on steam...
What does it mean? I never heard of it befofe
@dessysixx2840 it means you're sigma and not a chud blue pilled soyjack.
@dessysixx2840 it's Internet slang that has its origin in the Matrix. Someone who calls themselves red pilled is essentially saying "wake up sheeple"; they think they're smarter than the rest of us and usually crazy bigoted as cherry on top.
That moment I thought being Redpilled meant someone watched too much youtube...
Nothing stop the developers from saying.. there are only 500 of these n then turning around and selling 1000 later decreasing the value of the NFT in order for the developer to make more $
I think that Crytivo wanted more creative control instead of letting the developers do what they wanted as well as tighter deadlines
nft is one of the worst things to ever come to gaming, it's always trash.
Thanks for keeping your eyes open and giving the heads up!
Not even going into all the red flags for the first game, I don't want my farm games be inspired by GTA, the hell?! 😅
8:45 they were probably thinking they’d be praised for being so funny and memey or whatever
But like… “let’s be serious for a moment… which boob jiggle physics is best” is not a good look when you aren’t making a game where the point is sexy characters (even in a gacha game it’d be judged to post things like that. You’d have to make nsfw games for it to be received well)
I’d literally take a game with microtransactions over NFTs. Don’t love those either but at least I know where my money is going.
Shame too because the art in that game looks GORGEOUS. What a waste.
I agree with you 100%
I think it sounds like Farm Folk's has been planted in the gaming cemetery.
Okay."
"... Vehicles to get around faster. Alright, that's fine."
"... Guns and ghost hunting, along with a... *Checks notes* Time Travelling PVE mode...?"
"Dino Crisis Mode?!?! Now they're just Jumping the Shark! ...? What? It was an April Fools post? Well, could have fooled me."
Feels like they just want to make a Fortnite contender with the amount of stuff they're adding in. :\
Farm Folks looking a lot like Fortnite.
And Satisfactory.
And The Sims.
And My Time at Sandrock.
And Palia.
And Planet Coaster.
And-
Lol that NFT game costs so much that you could buy a modded switch OLED, play every farming sim game, and still have money left over.
I'm not paying the same amount of my monthly bills for something I cannot see the physical benefits of. 😥
I'm really thankful for your videos because sometimes I usually just jump into games without thinking about it. 😭
>NFT
Immediate scam and rugpull. I am glad steam has a rule against NFT/block chain games
I love your sense of humour Josh, please never change.
And if Farm Folks introduces rollercoasters we know who to blame...
Even after reading up on blockchains I still never got it
Thank you I love these videos!
If it helps I really never got it either.
11:22 the house building looks tedious
The way i only know about farm folks because of the jiggle physics tweet 😅
Id love to know whats happening with Puffpals... :/ if you could include this in your Pt 2 id be so appreciative!!
I really love your tone with your videos!! Thank you for making them and getting a chuckle out of me because youre so dang funny in your playthroughs.
I feel like there's sooooooo much space to innovate in the farming/'cozy' genre but all these devs seem to want to do is take Stardew (and now Palworld apparently) and make it worse
and NOW they're shoving crypto into it
Putting NFTs in a cozy farming is wild.
I appreciate you for confirming my worries. I thought I was being paranoid 😂
DAmn moonfrost's art direction is really nice. But it would feel weird to play a farming game of all things, knowing what nfts do to the environment.
thank you Josh for this informative and thorough video!!! I would love to see you do this as a series, but I would also love if you can do a similar video on projects in development that you are excited for! Not games already set to come out, games that are being developed still or new Kickstarter projects. I personally discovered a lot of games thanks to your recommendations!!!
So bummed about Moonfrost, it looks so cute.
I'm also worried about Farm Folks. 😢 I've been following it for over a year now. It looks promising, but I'm very skeptical.
I always enjoy your takes on games, I find them super helpful
Josh, happy new year!
As an OG FarmFolks backer, I have been slowly losing optimism for the game as it keeps going further and further away from what I had originally backed. If I could get my money back at this point, I would, honestly…. But I’m holding out hope there will be something to enjoy for me by the end of the day, still. I reeeally don’t like pvp, car riding or factory building stuff, though…
And thank you so much about informing us of Moonfrost!
We are eating good and the fact that Natsume' finally delivered a really good Harvest Moon game with Winds Of Anthos has me excited for the future there too
Happy New Year! Great video as always!
Thanks so much! Your reviews are thorough and really helpful. Enjoy your new year!
Farm Folks was literally stripped out of its character/charm and now looks like a fortnite look alike, oof 😢
Farmfolks was so cute at first. So sad
Thanks for this video, I'll definitely be avoiding these games. Hope you have a Happy New Year!! :)
Ah, Farm Folks..I miss OG Farm Folks so badly
The current build just feels confusing.
3:10 the studio is literally called "red pills" and people really gave him hundreds of thousand dollars? 😂😂😂😂
ugh i was absolutely on board with moonfrost when you said it was free with that lovely art style but omfg i can't STAND crypto games or anything to do with it, what a sad thing. if they wanted to make money, they could just charge money for the game, rather than putting their players at risk
I've never quite understood the desire for a game that let's you do "everything," where you can farm and fight and build and play and and and... I feel like certain limits make games better. How do you progress if you can "do everything," you know? It's not just unrealistic from a development standpoint. It's bad design.
Any game that includes nfts will fail, no matter how much they say it won't.
I mean in took Nintendo 2 tries to get all the features of TOTK and they have people with yrs of experience.
moonfrost is gorgeous, its a shame
Jiggle physics , really? 🤦

Yes, I'm French-Canadian!
