I couldn’t see if he used any other brushes. It looked like he was only using a fan brush and that truly blows my mind. I don’t really like his hyper realism stuff but these types of painting he does r incredible to me. Well done!
I digital paint, I love watching these to see how the paint should behave so I can get similar results. I also learn a lot about the artists' process while watching it. I sometimes will try to incorporate it into my own process.
I wish the closed captioning was available to understand what he was saying. That would've been helpful. What patience and skill to duplicate the texture and appearance of crocheted sweaters!!! He's a marvel!
I learnt few important things in oil painting from this & from other videos. It is good to use Fan brush only for smudging & merging. We have amazing brushes for details, high lights. FILBERT is the kind of brushes, not Fan ( but for large areas ). I am sorry to write this- Almost all oil painter of portraits - do not show the eye detailing in real life. There are skips & cuts - so are in this. Also, most artists are scared of Ornaments ( simple aor complex ) for their own reasons. Knife is a better tool for clothe in overall high lights & brightness but a Fan/ flat brush can add more value in the end - not in the beginning. It is a wate of time - glassware of time. These are personal opinions based on 100++ Oil paintings of inexpensive + the watching videos. Great job by the artist - Hats off.
What he said in the first part of this video was that Chinese traditional painting was different from oil painting, in that in Chinese traditional painting you want to outline the subject first, then lay in the color. But in oil painting, you do the outine and the coloring at the same time. As you can see in this video how he lays it all in together.
I've seen this video before. There's a tension between the girl and painter. She does not like him and is almost hostile or terrified of him, and he evidently began making a more accurate depiction of her, you can see it in an earlier clip of the video, which he changed. You can actually see his final depiction is not an accurate portrayal of her face at all, and in fact not even the same skin tone, face shape or anything. Interesting, and somewhat disheartening.
