    Thanks for your video. It really helped me as I replaced the clockspring on my daughter's 2006 Liberty. It was perfect! So, you, UA-cam, Ebay and Autozone's free loaner tools saved me $750. I did a $880 job for $130 and it took me an hour and a half. Bravo!

    Very helpful Thank You. If clockspring is used or got moved, you can re center it yourself. Aim jeep tires to straight ahead. Take clock spring (removed from steering column) and push lock/release button located in middle lower position, turn spring clockwise till it stops, do not force it, turn 2 and 1/2 turns counter clockwise and release button. Wire harness connectors should be at the top. The blue roller should be visible through inspection window. The arrow on label should align with arrow on molded spring case.

    Thank you for the visual! I was attempting a tripod pull, your bipod works best, and upon seeing the use of a socket for a base, that helped me eliminate a VERY ERRONEOUS step I was taking! Tried it, and just as I turned, my "made in China" tool snapped. Guess I will be going to autozone and just rent one if available!

    Thanks for putting in the effort to help others. The video doesn't have to show every detail perfectly you explained all the steps and people should use their brains to figure out how to remove a screw. Some people are so ungrateful.

      Nobody is perfect... especially me! I try to take all criticism positively, even if it wasn't meant as such. There are lots of people who watch lost of videos and I am just a guy who likes Jeeps and wanted to share what I know for average people. Thank you for the positive comment and for watching... I'll keep making 'em if y'all keep watching 'em!

    Thank you for taking time to film this - tip - for dropping screws - roll masking tape around the tip and base of screw, keeps it all lined up.

    Thank you for your detailed video. My 06 Libby is possessed, my horn has started going off randomly by itself. Last night it was sometime between midnight and 3am just a constant honk, hopefully my neighbors forgive me

    By the looks of it, you could have just added the cruise module and radio control module to the other wheel once you took them off.

    Great video. Thank you. When you say the steering wheel is keyed do you mean it can't be rotated to the right or left slightly? I just had my daughter KJ get a wheel alignment and now the steering wheel is off centre. I was going to remove the wheel and rotate it slightly but this may now not be possible. Thanks

    2 questions. What year is your Liberty and did the clock spring have a lock tab on it that keeps it centered that needed to be removed. Thanks for the info

    • @eXperimentalJeep
      @eXperimentalJeep  3 роки тому +1

      This Liberty KJ is a 2005. I know that the 2002-2005 all use the same clockspring. In 2006, it was changed. I believe it was a mid-year change (fun times!), so if you are hunting for one, match the model year to be sure and pay extra attention to 2006.
      The clock spring has two clips that keep the outside housing centered on the column, but there is nothing to stop the inside part from spinning freely. If you have spun it and are unsure if it is no longer centered, here is a trick I used on my XJ: Spin it all the way to one side, then count the number of full revolutions to get it to lock spinning it the opposite way, divide that number in half and then spin it that far back the first direction. For my XJ it was 5 full rotations so 2.5 was the middle. Worked like a charm!
      Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!

      @@eXperimentalJeep Thank you for the quick reply. My KJ is that lucky 2006 and haven't found a new clockspring for less than $340. Thanks again for the info

    Did you have to get a vin programmed clock spring or could you send one to get programmed to the specific vin? Or disconnect the battery in order for it to work all together? Because I got a clock spring from a Jeep that had the controls and I could still only use cruise and horn. Keep in mind I have an aftermarket stereo just like you and I did fail to disconnect the battery and never discharged the airbag

    Hi I’ve recently bought a racing steering wheel and I need a steering wheel hub. The new steering wheels bolt size is 6x70 and I just can’t find a steering wheel hub that fits this jeep

    • @eXperimentalJeep
      @eXperimentalJeep  3 роки тому

      You may have to have one custom made... I am assuming you have reached out to the racing steering wheel manufacturer? If not, start there. I had a friend that was very into racing (not Jeeps tho...) and he basically had a machinist on call for parts.
      Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!

    Seat Belt around the steering wheel so you don't need to hold it.

    • @eXperimentalJeep
      @eXperimentalJeep  2 роки тому

      Not a bad idea... had not thought of that. My only concern would be if it would actually hold. The seatbelts seem to lock up on me when I lean forward to change the radio, but then down lock when I slam on the brakes. Definately worth a try - next time I need to take it off!
      Thanks for the suggestion, and for watching!

    Maybe I missed it. Is the harness for the stereo controls already there? I know on some manufacturers it is.

    • @eXperimentalJeep
      @eXperimentalJeep  2 роки тому

      If by the stereo controls harness on the steering wheel. then no - the controls need to be added and the clock spring needs to be changed to accommodate that. If you mean the harness in the dash, then yes. I added a CD changer so that I could add Bluetooth in... but that is for another video :)
      Thanks for reaching out, and for watching!

    Hi I appreciate your help. I have a problem with my jeeps horn, and the alarm won't stop. I had to remove the fuses to disconnect the alarm and the horn. How can I fix this? Please advise me. Need help asap.. thank you in advance. Have a great day.

      I'd bet its the clockspring... had a similar issue with my XJ and the horn. If there is damage to the internal wires in the clockspring, all sorts of weird things can happen. Not sure if its the same on the KJ, but the TPS shares a ground with the cruise control switches in the XJ, which means the TPS could be sending bad or no data because of the clockspring in your steering wheel! Sounds crazy, I know, but w/o a wiring diagram or online resources, people would never know about how one silly little thing can impact another.
      Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!

    After garage working on car and me getting it back I am able to see the wires on the steering column...they weren't covered back up...I don't seem to be able to contact the garage again...have left messages but no return call...
    How can I get the wires recovered?

    • @eXperimentalJeep
      @eXperimentalJeep  2 роки тому

      If by covered you mean tape wrapped, then you can just leave them "uncovered" or you can get some cloth tape or electrical tape and wrap them up.
      If you mean bare metal on the wires exposed - you need to take it back to the shop, demad a refund, or both. You dont want a short in your steering colum - could have an airbag go off while driving down the road and that would not be fun.
      You can wrape the bare wires with electrical tape - if thats the issue and you get nowhere with the shop.
      Good luck with your Jeep, and thanks for watching!

    I wrecked my jeep air bag blew up do you know what I have to replace and what I need?

    • @eXperimentalJeep
      @eXperimentalJeep  4 роки тому

      Aside from the obvious of a new air bag... You'll need a new clock-spring. This is the device that allows you to have steering wheel controls like horn and cruise control and still turn your wheel.
      When the air bag is deployed, a large electrical current is sent from the air bag control module, thru the steering column and the clock-spring, ending in the deployment of the air bag. The large current damages the clock-spring and you won't have the controls like horn and cruise control, and the replacement air bag will also not work. Replace the clock-spring and you should be good.
      I do not recall if you need to replace the air bag control module to reset the system. If you do, just remember to get a control module from the same year, trim level AND one that had the same options... i.e. front only vs front & side curtain air bags.
      Good luck with your Jeep. Thanks for watching... And the like!

    terrible!!!! He blocks your view the entire time - the camera does not show where he's removing screws and bolts from the outset of the video - garbage video

    • @eXperimentalJeep
      @eXperimentalJeep  4 роки тому +4

      Thanks for watching... I'm sorry that some of the views are obstructed. I did try to get some reverse angles and I did try to get creative with some of the camera angles (for example, the 2:45 mark & 13:25). But as you are aware I am sure, just seeing some of those steering wheel screws can be a challenge, much less filming them!
      I always welcome criticism, and I'll try to get even more creative with additional videos to show the best angles. Thank you for your comments!
