@Krikegory Kigerstone Pretty Balanced atm. Best Korean ? Terran. Best non-Korean ? Zerg. Finals ? Protoss vs Zerg. Statistically Zerg does worst in lower leagues, better in top leagues.
Zerg probably has the highest skill ceiling, but those who reach it (Serral and Rogue) are almost unstoppable. Creep reveals entire map, boosts unit speed, zerg can tech swap to counter what they fighting, each hatchery can have up to 19 larva, that's almost 100 units ready to remax with 5 bases. The Zerg late game game potential is almost limitless.
Now none can deny that Serral is the best SC2 player in the world right now, he has dominated everything this year, and crushed every Korean that found in his way.

One thing has to be said, which isn't nearly mentioned enough and that's how good the commentators are on all these events. It's one of the main reasons I like watching SC2 matches. These two guys cover the matches amazingly, are very funny to listen to, and give great insight for people like me who isn't an SC2 savant by any means. Great job guys and girls!
god this was an interesting series, the skills on this finnish man is just awe-inspiring, after all my years as a sc fan to see a scandinavian dominate this hard woul've never come to mind as a scandinavian. Though the only thing that makes me sad is that TotalBiscuit was not here to see it, after all his years of supporting the community wanting foreigners to fight on the same level as koreans consistently, it truly is a shame that the man that kept my love for this game going so strong for so long didn't get to see this incredible piece of SC history.
My sentiments exactly. However, Stats just may be the ultimate opponent. Such a solid core to his play and ability to adapt and puzzle out the challenge he is facing. Calm and adaptive under fire... but apparently not quite adaptive enough.
@Brandon: I agree with you, but maybe more agression early on would be better to counter Serral (otherwise in late game he seems to be impossible to beat), and Maru is really good at that early/mid game pressure. Stats is more "prudent" compared to Maru. @John: I would too !!!
@Dimitri Raymondo they actually have specific reasons for that, it is the way all of these things are done, serral won the normal circuit and maru won wcs Korea, so they get opposite brackets, just whats happens
The last the game was, in the lightest description possible, HELLISHLY BRUTAL. - Very conservative and not pushing his luck - Picks apart army and economy where he can - Deny's any harass and takes out options for harass - Even though has slow, powerful units, he uses his fast units to his advantage to take expensive units from Stats - Constantly thinking about his economy and saving up AND very important that a lot of people seem to not be paying attention to - He keeps upgrading to not only have the harass, army size, and economy advantage but the tech advantage as well!!!! In-fkin-sane match. Honestly, if he retired here, I would be 100% okay with that at this point. This match made me so happy live and now when I replayed it. History is made. GG
I only stumbled upon this video, it's been awhile since I've been into SC but this has reinvigorated my interest into the game. I grew up playing Starcraft 1 casually and it will always have a place in my heart. Now seeing a non-Korean win like this, with such beautiful gameplay, it's not just a big moment in Starcraft history but ESports in general. GG
same here. I am still shocked that Incontrol passed away completely out of the blue. He was one of the most charismatic and nicest guys of the SC2 scene worldwide. A huge loss for the community. I loved his castings. my favourite SC2 caster.
Life's win in 2014 convinced us that Zergs can win the big one, Sos' win in 2015 proved that it can be done more than once in a lifetime, Byun's win in 2016 made it clear that you can train and grow alone and take it all as a terran, Rogue's win in 2017 showed that when the time is right, you can seize the moment, and now, Serral's win has allowed a wave of hope and inspiration to take any non-Korean player by storm.
Yea, everyone wants to see this. Sucks that it got spoiled twice. I still believe Maru has the style to beat Serral. Serral loves to sit back and macro. Maru loves to use early aggression to hurt the enemies and Maru has excellent timing and control with his attacks. Hoping soon we get to see these two juggernaut face each other on a big stage.
I want a series where they invite serral and a lot of other players, and everyone plays serral. The price pool is 100%, and everytime serral loses a map, a small amount goes to the one who took the map. At the end the money left goes to serral
in 2017 when he almost won his first tournament, I had no doubts that Serral is different than anyone else in terms of perfection. He is the ultimative zergplayer. but it's not the race, it's his talent. he would be the ultimative terran or toss if that would be his races. Serral is the prove that SC2 is a game of player skills for about 90%. 9 % balance issues, and 1 % luck. about. look how Maru looks nowadays. like a schoolboy compared to Serral. but it is not a balance issue. Clem 7:0 ed Serral in the last pro-matches they had. 7:0 !
First times I see a nonkorean Starcraft player knocks out korea players in ZvZ and ZvP absolutely easily like the way Serral has done. I see he controls and manages the mineral perfectly and slowly push then crush his enemies softly. There is no pressure for Serral at all. Unbeatable Z player 👍
It feels like just recently TotalBiscuit in ShoutCraftKings introduced a young man from Finland, making name in european ladder. Now he's a world champ, the one that dethroned Koreans. HAIL TO THE KING!
So humble of Serral. in start of that interview. To imagine I was once or twice his admin years ago on assembly asus rog, to see same guy suddenly kicking the living sh#t outta nation in their own game, no disrepect of course, there was time when finnish people were already super proud of themselves if they beat a korean only once. Man, still hard to believe... Awesome character!
Amazing game by Serral, juggeling all those zerg units is not an easy task. I love Starcraft from when I was a kid playing the solo campaign, to playing competitivly in SC2. I will continue to play with much enjoyment in 2019!
The amount of time and dedication they put into this game, then the level of skill, precision, speed and tactics they master I don't see why this game shouldn't become olympic event. Seriously if curling is StarCraft 2 should too.
I guess INnoVation is right. They need to nerf zerg! Hahaha. Serral is the man. Congratulations to him breaking the unprecedented string of Korean dominance, and doing it in such a convincing fashion. Cerebral game play, and so relaxed even after he won. I would have been losing my mind, as I'm sure many others would have as well.
Yea, the new balance patch looks pretty good all things considered. We'll see if anything is broken over the next few weeks/months. I'm a particular fan of the hydra nerf. Think the thor nerf is a bit much though. I think they'll give the armor back eventually. It's too squishy for the cost now.
You basically press all the buttons and hope the other guy gets annoyed by the mess faster than you. Seriously, the units control in Starcraft is below retarded... it was ok in 1999, but 20 years later, it's just dumb.
As someone to this day who only played D2, WC3, and LoL .... I've just quit league and want to go back to the old games. Might pick this up after playing it a few times in the early 00's.
As a swedish casual Starcraft player, this victory inspired me to keep playing and supporting the game despite how people claim the RTS-scene to be. Starcraft might not be the biggest eSport right now, but it inspired me to keep supporting it, and I hope it'll become something greater once more. GG and great job to Serral!
Byun won and they soon afterwards nerfed reapers 2 or 3 times. Maru was supposed to be the hope this year, but then he tries to proxy against his practice partner whom he could easily won in macro. Biggest disappointment of BlizzCon for me
@@mercurial4854 i thought so as well. I watched it on Twitch and i couldnt get it into my head why Maru kept on proxying despite sos hard countering him every time. He could have likely taken him if he had played a standard strategy.
what a game. Also, unreal that the next champion is from Finland, out of all the countries in the world. Finland has 5 million people. South korea has 50 million people. USA has 325 million people. Let that sink in..
@Cocoy Nohay that is a false conclusion, it's more to do with how few 'chances' a nation has at getting the best SC2 player, if every human has an equal chance of becoming the best SC2 player, than Finland is a very unlikely contender just statically speaking. Keep in mind, Finns are well known to be die-hard fighters, ever heard about the Winter War? :D

Peaks 667 in a normal game, if you look in the final match they show the APM for a few seconds and I kid you not it hits 1,007 with an avg of around 455. That's like 17 actions per second how do you even
Dude, I can hit 1000 apm too for a good 4 seconds doing some rapid fire creep spread or building units. It's not about apm, serral usually hovering around 400 but his epm is usually 50-100 more than other pros. so like 250-300 which is insane. that is not just holding down keys to make it go to like 1500 apm that's actual effective actions that are all different. and we also forget camera hotkeys don't count as apm so like these guys are probs average a lot higher actions than recorded. so yeah my dude no one can do 17 actions in one second that's not real lol. @@Tshaydin

One of the greatest moments in eSports history
This was the best series of Starcraft that I've ever seen in my entire life.
nah
Anyone wants to start a petition for AfreecaTV to host a Serral vs Maru Bo7 cast by Tastosis?
My sentiments exactly. However, Stats just may be the ultimate opponent. Such a solid core to his play and ability to adapt and puzzle out the challenge he is facing. Calm and adaptive under fire... but apparently not quite adaptive enough.
I would put up some money for the prize pool for that showmatch.
@Brandon: I agree with you, but maybe more agression early on would be better to counter Serral (otherwise in late game he seems to be impossible to beat), and Maru is really good at that early/mid game pressure. Stats is more "prudent" compared to Maru.
@John: I would too !!!
@Dimitri Raymondo they actually have specific reasons for that, it is the way all of these things are done, serral won the normal circuit and maru won wcs Korea, so they get opposite brackets, just whats happens
The last the game was, in the lightest description possible, HELLISHLY BRUTAL.
- Very conservative and not pushing his luck
- Picks apart army and economy where he can
- Deny's any harass and takes out options for harass
- Even though has slow, powerful units, he uses his fast units to his advantage to take expensive units from Stats
- Constantly thinking about his economy and saving up
AND very important that a lot of people seem to not be paying attention to
- He keeps upgrading to not only have the harass, army size, and economy advantage but the tech advantage as well!!!!
GG
Coming back to this video and iNcontrol saying that he "can't wait for next year for SC2" hit me in the feels.
RIP
same here. I am still shocked that Incontrol passed away completely out of the blue. He was one of the most charismatic and nicest guys of the SC2 scene worldwide. A huge loss for the community. I loved his castings. my favourite SC2 caster.
"WHY ARE WE EXCITEDLY YELLING EVERYTHING!?"
"I DON'T KNOW!"
"WHY DO WE ANNOUNCE THE PLAYERS BEFORE EACH GAME?!"
"I DON'T KNOW!"
really proud of Serral, he earned that win. you can tell the crowd just loved seeing that!
Still such a great series to watch, months later.
years even
Life's win in 2014 convinced us that Zergs can win the big one, Sos' win in 2015 proved that it can be done more than once in a lifetime, Byun's win in 2016 made it clear that you can train and grow alone and take it all as a terran, Rogue's win in 2017 showed that when the time is right, you can seize the moment, and now, Serral's win has allowed a wave of hope and inspiration to take any non-Korean player by storm.
Game 1 : 0:00
Game 2 : 14:28
Game 3 : 27:32
Game 4 : 45:38
Game 5: 58:30
Game 6 : 1:11:43
One of the greatest series in Starcraft history, and definitely one of the greatest moments of victory!
I'm a Tekken player and the news about Serral has brought me here.
Dayum, that is the bomb
lmao im a csgo player and the same thing happened xD
dude as a csgo player i heard about a white guy winning against korea and I was shooketh
U SHOULD TRY SC2... TOO
U SHOULD TRY SC2...
Even now in 2021 I keep looking back at this game as a great example of classic pvz gameplay.
his autograph :DDDD
Lol I thought the same.. It only adds to the character :P
Only thing missing is him having his own crayons to write it with :DDD
5 years old autograph. What a disaster.
Well I bet he wasn't prepared for that. It's not like you sign anything with your game tag outside of autographs anyway.
@@vesanius1 You're absolutely right. It's still hilarious. :D
"Make some noise for STATSSSS!!!!!"
*Deafening silence occurs*
I know, its a shame cause he's a dope Protoss.
GO ON FINLAND! GO ON SERRAL! SMART AND RESPECTFUL PEOPLE...I'M HAPPY THAT THIS KIND OF PEOPLE WIN
U sound racist
This is the best commentary in any sports-thing ever.
Serral vs Alphastar pls
This is really one of the best matches ever in SC2. Classic and EPIC!
Seeing iNcontroL at end makes me so sad, he was alive half year ago...
Worth watching again after 2 years. What an incredible event this was.
Gratz Serral and well played by Stats, both awesome!
Congratulate Serral this was a phenomenal Final! I love how you play! Wish you the best. Greetings from Austria :)
They need to make a maru vs serral small championship. People would pay to see it.
A fan funded Maru vs Serral in a best of 7 or 9. That would be so awesome
5 years ago "what happens next, does he keep winning?" Yes that is exactly what Serral kept doing
in 2017 when he almost won his first tournament, I had no doubts that Serral is different than anyone else in terms of perfection. 7:0 !
OMG 2 Million views! I was so happy for Serral when I saw this live, after 2 years it still feels as epic as ever.
First times I see a nonkorean Starcraft player knocks out korea players in ZvZ and ZvP absolutely easily like the way Serral has done. I see he controls and manages the mineral perfectly and slowly push then crush his enemies softly. There is no pressure for Serral at all. Unbeatable Z player 👍
might be the first foreigner bonjhwa
zerg players are amazing, love watching these guys play, big respect
Its funny they call him the wrong name at the end. Keep calling him special not serral at the end commentary
Is it tho???
The amount of time and dedication they put into this game, then the level of skill, precision, speed and tactics they master I don't see why this game shouldn't become olympic event. Seriously if curling is StarCraft 2 should too.
I guess INnoVation is right. They need to nerf zerg! Hahaha. Serral is the man. Congratulations to him breaking the unprecedented string of Korean dominance, and doing it in such a convincing fashion. Cerebral game play, and so relaxed even after he won. I would have been losing my mind, as I'm sure many others would have as well.
Good new: Zerg was nerfed, and Terran super buffed.
Yea, the new balance patch looks pretty good all things considered. We'll see if anything is broken over the next few weeks/months. I'm a particular fan of the hydra nerf. Think the thor nerf is a bit much though. I think they'll give the armor back eventually. It's too squishy for the cost now.
@@jacobjay9115 To be honest, atm Terran is quite broken. Watch the full HSC 2018 and you'll undsrstand...
That was on the old patch though wasn't it...?
@@jacobjay9115 no. It finished yesterday night
One of the only eSports matches I come back to multiple times
I have no idea how SC works but wow it is exciting!
You basically press all the buttons and hope the other guy gets annoyed by the mess faster than you.
Seriously, the units control in Starcraft is below retarded... it was ok in 1999, but 20 years later, it's just dumb.
Dam I can't believe this was already 5 yrs ago. Serral da god
i feel like im watching a wrestling match with these announcers lmao
Some serious monday night raw commentary
As someone to this day who only played D2, WC3, and LoL .... I've just quit league and want to go back to the old games. Might pick this up after playing it a few times in the early 00's.
serral gooooooooooooooooo!!~~~~
from korea
Glad to see Tastosis still casting games, I hope they do it for a long long time.
He is the best player undoubtedly
As a swedish casual Starcraft player, this victory inspired me to keep playing and supporting the game despite how people claim the RTS-scene to be. Starcraft might not be the biggest eSport right now, but it inspired me to keep supporting it, and I hope it'll become something greater once more. GG and great job to Serral!
I wonder if i ever will see a terran finalist... One can only dream.
Watch broodwar :p
TY (Terran) beat stats in the finals not to long ago. Go watch that & you will see a Terran finalist.
Byun won 2 years ago? :)
The History of Esports
what a game.
@Cocoy Nohay american's aren't a race dumbass
did the commentator call Serral Special @ 1:42:21
Please make a StarCraft movie
NO! did u see the warcraft movie? jesus fcking christ NO!
1:43:02 Perfect words from Geoff "Incontrol" about Serral back then, when he just become the best on the planet. Nobody could have found better words. The Starcraft community will miss Incontrol forever.
Serral has average 350 APM throughout his games, and peaks 667 APM at times.... insane
And I have about 50...when I’m not eating x D
@@Tshaydin
@@shapevader9311 You can really see it in his army control. It looks almost like the googles AI controlling three armies simultaneously.
Zerg rush forever, I love them from 1999..omg it was 20 years ago). EG Jae Dong was my favourite player and now Serral enjoyed to the monument of brilliant starcraft zerg players. Good job!
