- Manfred Mann were an English rock band, formed in London in 1962. The group were named after their keyboardist Manfred Mann, who later led the successful 1970s group Manfred Mann's Earth Band. The band had two different lead vocalists during their period of success, Paul Jones from 1962 to 1966, and Mike d'Abo from 1966 to 1969.
The group were regularly in the UK charts in the 1960s. Three of the band's most successful singles, "Do Wah Diddy Diddy", "Pretty Flamingo" and "Mighty Quinn", topped the UK Singles Chart. They were the first southern-England-based group to top the US Billboard Hot 100 during the British invasion.
Love everything about the band and songs
This is a super rare and a great Fox on the Run song by Manfred Mann, plus, in 1975 the rock group Sweet also had the song Fox on the Run as well, however, both songs were awesome and both had different lyrics in them!!
Mike D'Abo is just excellent, so handsome and a voice that gets you going.

One of their 60's hits I'd almost forgotten . Another great song !
Manfred Mann were such a prolific group so many hits definrtley one of my favourite bands
Its all about me and my poor life
Damn. Didn’t know they went that far back. I know them from growing up in the 1980’s (I always thought they looked a little old in their videos 😂). Two decades on the charts is a great run in any era.
Manfred Mann Earth Band you knew from 80ies is not the same, that Manfred Mann from 60ies. Only the eponymous founder is the same, but the style and even genre of music were totally different.

Jeder entwickelt sich weiter, auch musikalisch. Dem Einen gefällt's, dem Anderen nicht.🤷♂️
@@keinalleswisser612 Mir gefallen beide.
Always loved more the Mike D'abo era
both were great
always loved this performance, especially the bits where manfred knows he’s being filmed close up and so has to put on a bit of a show but he obviously doesn’t want to so he keeps laughing and the others know it too lol
❤i remember was winter outsidte in bucarest iwas listen to my grand ma old radio short waves Manfred Man from i think radio Luxembourg
ich Grüße alle die wie ich den Song mit 14 Jahren erlebt haben und heut noch gut finden. Alles Gute und Rock On
Hi 🎉
🙋🏻♂️ hello from Sweden 🇸🇪
She walked through the corn leading down to the river
Her hair shone like gold in the hot morning sun
She took all the love that a poor boy could give her
And left me to die like a fox on the run
Like a fox on the run
Everybody knows the reason for the fall
When woman tempted man down in paradise's hall
This woman tempted me, then took me for a ride
But like the lonely fox I need a place to hide
We'll pour a glass of wine to fortify our soul
We'll talk about the world and friends we used to know
I see a strange girl she'll put me on the floor
The game is nearly over the hounds are at my door
Love trip back excellent 👌 era happy 😊 😃 watching all performance ❤ bootiful
Manfred used to have a cabin in Fort Garland CO. Used to see him at the local coffee shop and antique store.
A big song for Tom T Hall Country Hit US Charts bluegrass style 😎
I suppose the German translation of Manfred Mann would obviously be Manfred Mann, being a German name ;-)
The organ player is Manfred Mann. That's his name but it somehow being German came over as just another quirky early 60s band title to us Brits. Didn't fool Beat Club tho.
@@seltaeb9691 Nein, at least it made it easy for the German viewers to get. Tom McGuinness is the guitarist on the left (of McGuinness Flint fame).
By the way, Manfred Mann‘s stage surname came from jazz drummer Shelly Manne.
@@hanno-erdmanntietz8424 Didn't know that. I thought that Mike Hugg was Manfred's brother when I was younger due to the close resemblance. Must be the spectacles or summat.🥸
@@roylennie8117
They were born in different countries: Mike Hug (>Hugg) was born in Hampshire whereas Manfred Lubowitz (>Mann) is from Johannesburg, SA.
Like a fox on the run, looking for this
There’s another 1 by Sweet from the decade after.
This version is better, though.
@@Nikes62 same title, different song.
The Hollies had After the Fox song for a film. Quite good too.
One of their best. There's a stunning bluegrass arrangement of this number by Tony Trischka and Tom Adams.
LOL, never heard this song before. Maybe it was popular in the state's. This 75 year old Brit can't remember it ! Maybe because it's somewhat forgetable, {for 'back then'}....
No charting in the United States, but in Britain. It reached No. 5 in 1969.
Top-5 single in the UK during the early months of 1969. It surprisingly became a Bluegrass standard in the US later on though
Remember watching the orig promo clip of this set in the middle of a fox hunt on NZ TV during the late 60s-good memories Auckland New Zealand 2022
Oops...I was looking for the Sweet version. My bad.
Very cool this time! Thanks for sharing.
Country Gentleman turned this into a bluegrass standard.
So did country singer Tom T. Hall, who sadly passed away today.
Their version was magnificent
Have got loads of cd s and dvds my favourite group still have a lot of cd
Hahaha, they did probably some dozen takes, thats why they look so bored.
I have no memory of this song. There was another Fox on the Run song by Sweet.
Yes. I thought this was going to be an earlier version.
This song went on to become a very popular blue-grass standard. Recorded by many! The Sweet song with the same title is not related at all. For some reason song titles are not subject to copyright and as their song has a different story and tune they have both stood. Love them both!
Also Wings had a song fox on the run😃
@@raymondpiper8294 I thought it was :" Band on the run"
@@martinusgroninger1875 had a senior moment then Martin ,and your absolutely correct 😃👍👍👍👍
Another great song i bought at the time..
Super Cool! Thanks.
Excellent!
Quality .
haha, Manfred has zero charisma.
0:33 lol cameraman got the singer mixed up
Cheesy but catchy 🤔Never heard it before .
Not cheesy, good quality 60s hit song unlike today's garbage. Millennials. Go buy Best of Manfred Mann cd. Won't cost much. Loads of great 60s hits.
an old Bluegrass song . nice variation
This version was earlier than country gentlemen

Classic! 🎉
Stunning 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
0:50 I'm stuff
Thought this was going to be the original of the Sweet song. 😅
@David Bell... Yep. Totally different song. I always loved that Sweet song. 🦊
The original sweet, fox on the run, is on one of their albums, itsa lot less polished, but still good
It's Manfred Mann silly, go back to sleep & wake up in the 70s.
Epic
what is that bass guitar??awesome
This is Klaus Voorman. Sometimes called "The Fifth Beatle" He deigned the Cover of "Revolver" and also of "Bee Gees 1st": He comes from Germany. I think, like you, he plays a good bass. Look at the commens at this video: ua-cam.com/video/b8mYcnq-TA0/v-deo.html
Remember skipped school went to the zoo listening to this band ❣️

Vould man bear any child ?
Who is Lider Vocal?Paul Johnes?
Mike D’abo
Paul Jones went on a solo career which bombed bar a couple of hits & Manfred went quiet but in the late 60s reappeared with Mike D'Abo who wrote songs & they had more hits. In the 70s the name changed to Manfred's Mann's Earth Band, new members & more hits. Can't keep a good Mann down..
How big are the singers shoulders ?
In Ukraine

The guitarist
The guitarist is Tom McGuinness. He originally joined the group as bass guitarist in the early days, after Dave Richmond left. When Mike Vickers left, Tom switched back to playing guitar. He looks like "a rather distinguished retired headmaster" these days. Tom, Mike d'Abo, and Mike Hugg form part of "The Manfreds" these days, although Mike plays keyboard & vibraphone rather than drums with the group.
@@johnlawler495 Tom also went on to form McGuiness Flint with Hughie Flint, along with Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle (of Gallagher and Lyle fame).
@@johnlawler495 thanks
Unfortunately, this group was only a two hit wonder, Mighty Quinn and Do Wah Diddy. Like so many other groups during this time period, they could not distinguish good from bad music and produced mostly bad music. Every once in a while by random luck, they clicked on something good but could never understand why. Therefore, they kept on producing a lot of trashy music that should never have been listened to.
Such an ignorant comment.
Manfred Mann had 15 top-20 singles (of which 12 were top-10 and 3 reached number 1) in the UK between 1964 and 1969. Hardly two-hit wonder
👌👍
Who is the gorgeous guy with glass es
I believe that is Manfred Mann himself
Hilarious

Good. But I've heard way better versions for sure.

Omg, that limp-wristed drummer. Yuk. I'm rather glad corny, 60s pop has gone away.
