- John Robert "Joe" Cocker OBE (20 May 1944 - 22 December 2014) was an English singer. He was known for his gritty voice, spasmodic body movement in performance, and distinctive versions of popular songs of varying genres.
Cocker's recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends" reached number one in the UK in 1968. He performed the song live at Woodstock in 1969 and performed the same year at the Isle of Wight Festival, and at the Party at the Palace concert in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. His version also became the theme song for the TV series The Wonder Years. His 1974 cover of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US. Cocker was the recipient of several awards, including a 1983 Grammy Award for his US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes.
It is an absolute crime that Joe is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What a shame.
Is that true? 😮
The R&RHoF is a money-grubbing scam.
Cocker's an icon without any help from those greedy bastards.
The R and R Hall of fame is a total scam bought by the music industry fat cats. Entirely for pushing their own financial interests.
If the fact that Flavor Flav is on the list doesn't tell you everything you need to know about the list, you are asking the wrong questions.
Es verdad gran cantante infravalorado completamente.
No musician on this earth put more passion in their songs as this man...
Always the King of the Hill.
Love the background!
@@hughdismuke4703 The wonderful background is Jimi Hendrix`s Electric Ladyland Album Nudes (European Album Cover), London, U.K. This photograph was the European cover for Jimi Hendrix's 1968 album Electric Ladyland. It features nineteen London Club girls, all non-models, who were asked spontaneously to pose nude. When it was released, the cover was banned in the United States. Fucking U.S.A. sucks, lol! I`m allowed to say that because I`m an American and because Trump isn't the fascist dictator King of America yet, lol! Peace & love, groovy people!
@@drivinsouth651 lets hope that orange monster never gets back in.
Thanks for the info. and I agree with your take on the U.S.A. as of now.
Few singers can be the entire storm. Joe is the rain, the thunder the wind and the clounds. His voice carries through
Usually a cover song doesn't compare favourably with the original. Not so here! This cover is on a different level and far exceeds the original. Love it !!!!
How is an English lad covering an English song for German TV in 1968 the most American thing ever recorded?
@@Bobby3OOO I know, he so embraced American singers. As American as Elvis
@ Priscilla Chung-Hacker. 👍🌹
@ Bobby3000. 😊😊😊
Hello Priscilla how are you doing!!
Most of today's singers can't hold a candle to performers of this quality. What a voice!!
AGREE
Hear hear
none of them can
"most"? Errr.....
True! Because they haven't studied music.
Probably the best cover of a Beatles song ever
no way
I had the privilege of seeing Mr. Cocker from 30 feet away at a small venue in 2003. He never missed a beat. I still have the hat.
Joe Cocker in Woodstock 1969 - the best performance !
Seeing that film, in 1970, turned me into a Joe Cocker fan, instantly.
@@russellparratt9859 So many great Joe performances of this song, all of them different!
@@chillertheater I saw Joe Cocker perform 7 times, when he came to Australia, including his 1st visit, soon after the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. At one time, he was really declining, but then he lifted his game, and went on to become the legend that we love.
@@russellparratt9859 Lucky you!! I wonder how he sounded to you the first visit. "Joe Cocker" ("Something To Say") was a really rough album for me to listen to because of the condition of Joe's voice. Yes, thankfully he didn't go the way of Janice and Jim and had the time to come back and have a tremendous career.
@@chillertheater Well, the band he had during the 1st tour had some members of the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour.
It was fantastic, although he was limping a bit from a scuffle he had with the police at the time. A legend. I remember he did 2 shows on one night, because the police "disrupted" the schedule a bit. It's all documented, but I can't remember the details as I write this. Joe Cocker and Creedence formed the main part of my listening habits at that time, and Cream. Joe Cocker was a consummate, skilled professional in front of the microphone, as well as delivering such a unique style of interpretation.
His timing and intonation was so perfect. Incredible stuff.
Always awesome.... saw him in Germany at Woodstock Revival Festival 1978.
One of the rare musical covers that manages to compete with the greatest references of all time.
Joe at Woodstock was a shock for me!
THE BEST VERSION JOE COCKER.
The deepest feeling of my generation is in this song✌️
How empty earth feels without Joe............
... ¿ seriously ? .... well listen to DAVID BOWIE .... he fills ALL ...
Esteban Posada Duque : No one can compare to the great Joe Cocker.

Beautiful, Raw, spiritual gift to the world was Joe.A true example of how being yourself is inspiring to others.
Best cover of a Beatles song ever.

@@sallyjoan Please enlighten me?
Saw Joe twice performing in Australia, just fantastic, threw me a little smile while he was singing and melted my heart.
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I saw him a total of 7 times, in Melbourne.
The best version of Beatles song. Like a hurricane
Until today. Magnific.
Wanderful.
No doubt. This version showed here is labeled "not good"
when i first listened to this song many years ago, i never thought i would come to know the meaning as deep as i do now....
No person EVER that I would have rather spent a night in the pub with than this man right here.
That cat is just different....in the best possible way...one of a kind! Unreal voice...
Beautiful song, Forever🔥💥
The best cover of Beatles. The best voices. Joe is phody
👌 Great singer. A lot of emotion in singing.
Grosses Lied. Joe Cocker wird niemals sterben💕👍
Wow, Joe always sounded great but I never saw him look so groomed and handsome and in total control. A beautiful image and sound.
Exactly
@@chuckcunningham9653 ...and this man is beloved...
This is the only time when a second version surpassed the original!!! Superb!!
Well... yes this, and Edwin Starr's 'War.'
Tina Turner doing CCR's Proud Mary is another example of surpassing the original.
@@tammylewis2408 I like CCR most. John Fogerty's voice had no comparison. Of course everyone has a different taste in music.
Beat Club. 👏👏👏👏👏👏thanks for sharing.

Best cover ever, together with All Along the Watchtower
One of the legendary vocal performances of the 1960s! Very psychedelic elements as well...
Top!!!

My older brother bought this album when it came out. Every song on it is great .
One word to describe Joe: Legend
This was like watching a wizard, literally working his magic and I was captivated the whole time. I wish I could have experienced the 60s, but ill make do with playing catch up 🤷♂️😎👍
Wife replying. Can anybody remember the 2 sisters who back him on this song. They were brilliant
Sue and Sunny?

Lovely memory of a powerful singer.
I was three in 68 , Favourite forever joe 🇦🇺

Voltando no tempo! Quanto tudo mudou e piorou!
His voice is so amazing ❤️
I love music, i love joe and best years
!!!!
One of the most gifted singers of the all times with unique voice and total discipline and control. Must be turning in his grave to see people calling themselves singers depending on software to do the job for them like Pro tools, Cher effects , Melodyne note correction and note stretching software.....The Man was born to sing to be what he was. after all these years still wow
Too right ,mate.
Too bad they had him lip sync this -we know he can sing.
Best version ever.
Yes straight from the album. They should have had him sing it live.
loved Joe from about 68 he was awesome unique and talent
I look back and think how it must have been to be English and have the Beatles repping your rock scene..awesome
Maravilha de música, anos dourados!!! Un dos maiores artista !!!!!!
Possibly the best rock voice ever.
Salut l'artiste là haut tu restes fantastique super merci pour les chouettes moments.
I was once in a tribute band of the band The Fab Force. Now, you probably already know, but The Fab Force was a tribute band of the Beatles. So our band covered songs performed by The Fab Force which of course were songs performed songs by the Beatles. This is one of the songs we did.
Awesome video! Bravo!
The great JC ! And the amazing backing vocalists who never get mentioned, Madeline Bell, Rosetta Hightower and sisters Sue & Sunny .
I agree with you Mark Morden. This sing is some song for Joe! Just the title means so much.
Very close to Woodstock. Loooove it!!
Out of this world voice and sound......
Saw him in 1969 doing his Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour with Leon Russell
You sir were a very fortunate man too see the two masters!👍👍
The wonder years tv theam song. ☮️✌️
What a great classic!
An absolute Legend!
GREAT PERFORMANCE BY A GREAT SINGER AND HIS BACKING GROUP. Seen Him Back In The 70's. K.G.B.Was Supposed To Show Up. That Was A Great Show But We All Wanted To See Michael Bloomfield Because He Had Not Played In A While. R.I.P. JOE AND MICHAEL 🙏🏾✌🏽☝🏾👍🏼💔
Deixou muitas sdds de um tempo distante....❤
I've listened to this version on radio for years. Didn't know it's from '68.
This guy is awesome, esp when he sings "The Letter" popular during my tour of Vietnam as you can imagine.

@@fabiofregonezeable rapaz, eu devo estar dormente.

Boa tarde .
Thank you Maestro JOE COCKER.
These Beat Club videos are priceless, but they like to play with the visuals, lol. This was probably close to how Joe looked while recording in the studio. His "Woodstock Makeover" was yet to come.
This song dedicated for
Catherine Hille 💚❤️
Could have done without the Pepper/Ladyland visuals. I preferred watching 'The Grease Band' on "How It Is". There's me thinking Beat Club was slightly more "authentic" than T.O.T.P. Oh well.
@@SuperNevile"How It Is" is my favorite video as well. The camera practically in Joe's mouth makes the hair stand up on my arms. What a savage interpretation vs. the "love your neighbor" crowd control one at Woodstock.
