You can't be from too far south, you said "fixings" rather than "fixins". Congrats on the poleaxe! I've also had my eye on that (and other A&A polearms) for years and years but they're way out of my league now. Looking forward to seeing this in action!
+Jose S Pretty sure this is the same axe he used in his helmet tests that was damaged on the first swing. Not completely snapped, but the axe-head was knocked off-center.
Jose S That's one of the difficulties when working with organic materials like wood. There can be any number of invisible flaws beneath the surface. In the Skallagrim video, it was definitely the haft which failed and not the head.
You need a $0.35 Harbor Freight razor knife, they are usually at the register. KOA does the best packing jobs I've ever seen. I've built several of these from the heads and one with a redwood shaft, It's incredibly light and fast and I built it for castle corridor defense. Have several more heads and lots of redwood from a neighbor's tree tops that broke years ago. I used brass rod for my rivets. The hammer was apparently used to impact joints in armor, to "prang" it and cause limited mobility. These were very popular for tournament melees
Waiting on the full review. I'd love to have something to practise with, try some of the things you see in the manuals. But I have to say, I'm pretty sure Skall broke on of these. That does make me wary.
Medieval Review, do you know where I could get a decent sparth/gallowglass axe from? My ancestors were gallowglass and I have an Albion gallowglass sword and have been trying to collect all the arms/armor they would of frequently used.
Hi, madregal designs make an extremely nice type of Sparth axe, and is used by Irish living history group Claíomh (Check them out, they show off the gallowglass really well!) However they are difficult to get in touch with. I asked them about making a sparth axe and haven't got an answer yet, and I have been waiting for a long time. Try them anyway though.
Thanks a lot for the info. I still need to find Irish javelins and other things like that. I've seen pictures of Claíomh before and I am jealous of their axes. Love the engravings on them, hopefully I can get one!
What no... they are not! A sword which comes reasonably close to originals costs around 1k€ You can find good poleaxes at 400. (You can find good swords too at the price, butyou really have to know your stuff) Even cheaper and better than A&A If you know where to look and what craftsmen to engage. Swords are more interesting and more versatile. Also loaded with mythicality and pathos.
In my experience, they lack the "romance" of the sword. Also, shipping on any pole-thing tends to be kind of disproportionate - years ago I bought some quarterstaves for my HEMA group, and it took me ordering 4 to get a bulk shipping deal to bring the shipping under the cost of the items.
Very nice... congrats on that much anticipated acquisition! :)
"Oh no, i destroyed my pole axe with my foldingknife during unboxing"
-said no men ever
Only a Cold Steel pole axe.
Charles the Bold he aint hawkeyes fucking mihawk
Charles the Bold he aint hawkeyes fucking mihawk
It's from A&A. No appeal except the sticker price and the bragging rights.
I love Arms & Armour. If I ever win the lotto I am ordering their entire catalogue.

oh man I can't wait for you to review this. I want to make sure this is a quality product before I buy it.
It looks awesome!
Now that's a proper weapon.
It certainly looks good but Skall had one and it broke on the first swing!

I just checked Skall's video. It was this very same model. There's a link to kult of athena in the video description.

Not jealous at all, honest.
Are you going to start running the pole ax plays from Fiore?
do you do actual tests/reviews after using these items?
What's the actual weight of the pole axe? I can't find it listed anywhere
For the moment I have the knightly poll axe without rondel made by deepeka with EN45 Steel and edged

NEEEED!
I do not like the rhondel. That adds unnecessary weight and prevents your hand from sliding up when you need it when in close.
They could better counter balance it with a spike on the other end also adding more counter us3
Why aren't pole axes more popular (than swords)?
ö. . , theyre more expensive

Cause no ones actually fighting to the death on the battlefield..it would be much more popular then lol.
Blank- blade yeah the knightly pole axe is 850 so no and I own several berry good swords at under 600
Throw a pommel at the box; its faster.
magic OPEN IT RIGHTLY!
magic OPEN IT RIGHTLY!
Tom doesn't know that the butt-cap is actually secretly a pommel...
can you use it as a tool.
Plant flowers, cook bacon, send messages... yeah, it will do anything!
Raphael Lo yes to kill saracens deus vult
It's POLL axe. not pole axe.
Fisher Lobdell it's actually either. The bastardized name has been used for so long that it's officially correct now
Needs a thicker shaft. Oh wait... 🤔🤨😌😏🙄
