- What is medieval reenactment? Why is it important? And what does living history have to do with IronCrown Workshop? Join us for an interview with Sean Keenan, president of the Knights Empire Germanica (KEG), as we hear all about his reenactment group and how this was significant to Joel's journey in making medieval armor.
The Knights of the Empire Germanica (KEG) strive to portray the Knights and Germanic people of the Holy Roman Empire from the mid-11th Century through to the end of the 15th century, with a particular focus on the ‘Order of the House of St. Mary of the Germans in Jerusalem’, commonly referred to as the ‘Teutonic Order’ and its history, arms, armor, rules & statutes.
Special thanks to Sean Keenan and the members of KEG for this interview and allowing us the opportunity of filming their group during the Abbey Medieval Festival 2022

Ian was one of the first guys I fought against in the mid 90's not long after the German banner left the Company of Knights Bachelor. It has been great seeing Sean and Suild their family, and the KEG family over the years. Losing Slavia was a huge blow to that family, and it's great to see them stronger than ever. Even though I've never been a member of KEG, I've always enjoyed running into them at events and the group has always been a great support since we started Citadel. Reenactment is about family!
That's some really cool history! Thanks so much for sharing!
I hear nothing about the religious aspects of the Teutonic Order!
And why even call yourself Teutonic Order, they didn't call themselves that REEEE
One knight has a great helm on his head and another tucked under his armpit. Hmmm I wonder who that is.
Those Dargan helms look really nice. Great work and looks like a really good group to be part of.
Cool, it is always nice to see people spreading their passion for historical reenactment. Although just as @Alex Parry has noticed already, this group is plagued by a ton of inaccuracies, most of which are easily fixable. This tells me they are more than just a bit lazy about their reenactment.
cool! it's surprising 'cause the black cross on white background is also the emblem of country (brittany)
Im finally on my way to starting a Swabian Condotieri reenactment group, set in the mid-late 13th Century.
Only problem: I need people. 🤣
"Fight the Pagans" *proceeds to fight the Orthodox Christan Russians* (yeah ik this was earlier than 1260 but still kinda funny)
very nice breakdown of the video that aside :p
If I remember correctly, russians raided teutonic lands and the main reason of attack was to capture strongholds and stop Novgorod from looting. But in the end it felt like a raid against raiders
I am from New Zealand and I Wish I can join Your group
where can one buy teutonic cloaks and surcoats? i always find ones with strange cross designs or expensive ones like $300 for the set unless they are meant to be wool then i understand the cost.
Esfords Armoury in Austalia sells them. But you have to make the black cross yourself
Most important tip in starting reenacting: Marry a partner who loves re-enacting! Other wise you end up having a fight over every time you go to reenactment... Believe me, I've been there.
I am having hard time finding info for Chinese garb and Chinese armor
I don't have as much experience on making Chinese armour or it's history but definantly something I am interested in learning about
Long ago I was in a club called SCA and I came across company that made Japanese armor. But Chinese their's very little info on it
13th - you must control your sword. To weack armor. Foll contakt only helm.
Awesome.
can foreigners join the group?
Awesome, high quality video! Keep it up :)
Very cool had to subscribe immediately
hi sorry but is the reenactment like medieval mma? if it is i would like to know where you bought the chainmail for the reenactment
Not exactly, reenactment is a past time that attempts to recreate the clothing, activities, ways of life of people in the past which does include combat. Buhurt/HMB is far more like medieval mma. There is a video about that on the channel!
@@IronCrownWorkshop so then where will i be able to get Buhurt chainmail armour and the crusader helmet
shame there's loads of really glaring inaccuracies which would be simple to fix
Onwards and upwards right. I think part of the joy of the hobby is identifying those inaccuracies constructively and then eliminating them one by one
Do you have some examples?
