I'm sure some people will recoil in horror at what I did but If I recall correctly I had to flush the cavity and pivots carefully but thoroughly with WD40 on my jig bone handle case knives to remove the polishing compound and schmoo from the pivots and then I used a generic 3 in 1 on the pivots and behind the springs then wiped off the excess. Once they are cleaned and lubed Case Knives operate beautifully and have a very satisfying feel when you open and close them.

I'm old enough to remember when American made knife brands like Case, Schrade Old Timer and Western came out of the box razor sharp.
Now the best knife brands come out of Scandinavian countries.
I couldn't afford a Case Sod buster so I got an Imperial Sod buster knife and despite three years of daily utility use: cutting weeds, cutting boxes up, opening mail, cutting up vegetables & fruits, cutting meat, carving wood, opening plastic packages, gutting fish, cutting finger nails, gathering herbal medicines, the blade remains sharp and holds an edge.

A few times when i've recieved new Case knives, i've found that the spring is raised a little bit higher then the liners when the blade is open. So i've actually found myself filing down the surface of the blade which the spring is resting on, and folded som pieces of paper to clean out the gunk. However there is always a risk of skraping against the liners when i use that file. I think at least one time i caused a little bit of side to side blade play when i did that😅

It's an old fashioned way to produce a knife. Back when they started it was normal for manufacturers to leave a burr so you could finish sharpen to your liking. Nothing wrong with it just grab ya a good strop and some compound and work it off. Easy tip if you have a large stubborn burr cut it gently into some wood and it will pull off some of the burr.

For the money case charges, there is no excuse for a knife not to come sharpened properly. It should not need sharpening for a while with proper none abusive use...only stropping. Sharpening is a major task for a knife and should not be viewed as something routine. Unless it is commercial application, and even then its a major task. $20 knife? Okay, I expect it to be dull and need a sharpening to put an edge on it and if it is soft steel then sharpen more often. But $60 to $150???? Sorry, we should not except nothing less than proper sharpness from the factory.

I dont know if this is good or bad practice, but i have a three step pull through sharpener and i always take a brand new knife, including case, and run it through the third step ceramic rod sharpener and it always seems to help quite a bit. Im not great at sharpening so i use store bought pull through sharpeners so i dont immediately ruin my edge.

Case needs to be responsible for making sure that their blades are lubed and functioning properly before sending them out and centered blades. Case is a USA made knife, don't let the Chinese whip your a** in quality. Get it right, Case. 🇺🇲😎👍

@@WhiteTrashTennessee You're the one full of shit. There are two Case Master Dealers near me and I have bought from both of them. For every purchase, I have had to go through their stock to find a good one. On average, 8 out of 9 were badly put together. All of them have a nasty sharpening burr because Case simply refuses to put a good edge on their knives. I can sharpen a knife, but I can't fix blade wobble, off-center blades, and gaps between the scales and liners.

As a matter of course I do this to EVERY knife I get from a production company. Its just the way it is. I normally do not use CLPs or penetrating oils on the handles because sometimes that stuff gets into the scales. Food grade light mineral oil works well for me and I don't use my knives as fidget spinners. You can mash the end of a q tip with a pair of needle nose pliers or even whittle down a popsicle stick to help clean out blade channels
