Well this is like an demonstration for her that the job she will be doing won't be at all what she thinks it is, it's super stressfull and you will feel like sh!t afterwards. It's not fun and you will deal with xtra hard people who often have a reason to be hard.
Because the company is outsourced and literally goes around US firing people for other companies in the movie. It's called Up In The Air, a good watch. Just saying. It's more like an teaching moment than her trying to be smart, he is making it clear that almost every person will be angry, maybe totally flip out, maybe cry, anything negative can happen and they also won't like that a random face comes into the building firing them just like that out of nowhere.

Literally happened at my wife's company and she is now suing for medical discrimination because.....her new manager put in writing that if she writes she doesn't need medical accommodations then she will get a raise.

When I got fired, my boss froze up. He saw tears and just kind of stood there waiting. He had an asset manager with him who actually offered me tissues and tried to comfort me. I honestly appreciated both, I understood that my boss didn't know how to handle my breakdown, and I was grateful to the one who tried to comfort me. I miss working there.

My boss got his retired dad to fire me because he could not be a man and do it himself. And like the 45 year old brat he was, he came and slammed the door because his dad firing me was annoying him in the other room. His father was really nice, but he was shaking. The dude was firing me and i was the one feeling sorry for him. By the way, this was during the pandemic and i was almost at the end of my 8 month trial period, so his son had no real reasons to be such an A-hole towards me (and to put his father in that situation for that matter).

It means that they don't just fire your colleague because they have enough assets to not worry about unemployment and you don't. Which would be a personal (and idiotic) reason to fire someone. It literally means that they don't care about your situation or feelings, because your situation or feelings aren't more important than the tens, hundreds or thousands of other employees it would jeopardise by running a business on emotion.
Every manager I have worked for has new ideas until we revert back to the ideas that were already working.

@Bill Anderson I recently was fired from a garbage company I was a mechanic for. I was fired for a petty reason after I accidentally bent a grabber claw and damaged the garage door. I was fired in late 2020, before I was fired, I was working as part of a skeleton crew, coming in early, staying late, putting my blood sweat and tears into keeping their fleet moving. I missed Christmas, birthdays, holidays, dinners, funerals and more in my vain attempt to keep their fleet running. I can't get those days back, I can't get a last meal with my dead grandmother. that is very personal for me. if they had more mechanics, a newer fleet, better equipment, and actually held their drivers liable for damages, id probably have had a lot less of my personal involved

I live in an at-will state we're currently being sued for wrongful termination....guy told me and my boss to f*ck off and die (and a whole lot of other crap) my boss fired him on the spot now we have to decide whether to pay through the nose for a lawyer (we'd definitely win in the end) or just pay this garbage person a settlement...so yeah it isn't that easy

Was asked to resign from a position I loved dearly and it was shoved in my face “you’ve probably never had to do this before, there’s no easy way.” Yeah but there is a right way.
They can not force tou to resign against your will. It's a way for them to not pay for your unemployment.
In the movie, most, if not all, the employees were being laid off and thus were being offered severance packages. In this scene, Clooney's character was arguing for continuing to meet with the employees face to face rather than by video conference as Kendrick's character is proposing. Kendrick's proposal was made to cut costs for her company by reducing travel expenses and that it would require fewer employees, possibly resulting in the laying off of employees in her company.

@@teo2157nah man ive worked for businesses that move and store hundreds of millions of dollars of product all over the country. None of my associates were smart enough to hire another. I picked the best people and they were still clueless. Unfortunately thats most people nowadays, they are not smart at all. Even most of the managers i hired were not very smart because it doesnt matter how much you train a person you cannot raise their natural intelligence. You cant trust a employee to hire others because they can promise a false pay, or will try and hire a friend, or will say something they arent supposed to in the interview. Not only are they probably not discerning enough to pick a good candidate but they can get you sued. Only management should hire otherwise you have an exceptionally inept hiring policy.

I once had a client who fired their entire team-lead level management in a division. But was still hiring workers. Stated reason was to make the company structure flatter, and so they eliminated the position. Some of the fired people sued for age discrimination, and won, company thought they had a good case and wouldn't settle, went to court, and got destroyed.

After leaving the military as a senior leader and taking a job as a service manager, I do everything I can to great a good work environment. I’ve quickly learned that 1. People don’t quit jobs they quit shit bosses, and 2 bosses don’t fire people. People fire themselves. I’d never fire a person for the sake of it. They’d have earned it 100%. And if they feel like they didn’t, then we need to do a better job of delivering the message as well as the expectations long before it ever got to that point.
Business is business. Being too understanding isn’t what the company pays you to do. It pays you to manage and look after their interests and best practices. And if an employee constantly violates those, then they voluntarily resign, that isn’t the bosses fault.

Not in NY. The employer and employee can terminate the employment contract at any time without a prior notice nor a reason given.
Kinda perfer this too as it allows the termination od problematic employees without the need of worrying about being sued and shit. Lot a shit heads out there

And this is why when someone is fired there is a lot of paperwork going into the why’s, how’s, etc. and the verbal conversation is just a formality.

If the person firing you gives you a reason, you have the ability to use that against them in someway. Unless they REALLY thought about it.

I can't link anything on YT obviously, but the game is Old School RuneScape, company is Jagex, and the individual is "Mod Jed". He stole a bunch of accounts and a bunch of other malicious shit, ended up getting fired. Sued Jagex and actually won for wrongful termination. Point being, just the fact you stole doesn't save the company from litigation, before they fire someone they need to do it right, and have all their ducks in a row, or you end up in a situation akin to the aforementioned one.

This statement is not legal advice. I am passing on what I was told to do by my lawyer years ago and what I've learned. Get everything in writing. Do not communicate professionally with anyone at work via phone or in person. They like to pad files or make up things to get a reason when they want you gone. All "at will" means you're not required to be part of a union to work. Also, the employer doesn't have to tell you their reason, but if you communicate with HR, management, etc. In writing, you can prove whatever they try to say in court or wave you off with is bs. Unless you have physical proof, it's your word versus theirs. We must know the laws because an employer who wishes to do nefarious things like wage theft isn't inclined to explain the rules and your rights to you. You're allowed to discuss wages with others retaliation isn't always based on protected status. Sometimes don't like you doing what you have the right to do and think cause it's not based on a protected class, they can fire "at will" with no consequence. That's false, and I recommend you keep track and physical evidence of everything you work on and complete on behalf of the company, including all evaluations. Presuming you are a generally good employee, if they start to "pad" your file with bad reviews and coachings/write-ups, then you have proof that they were preparing to fire you, and it is likely not due to what they put in the file. Also, only some employers deserve a two-week notice through mutual respect. None will give you a two-week notice when they fire you. A notice's only benefit is for the employer to replace you before your last day. It does not serve the employee in any way. For those that say, " you won't get a job anywhere because your employer will give a bad reference." They risk a lawsuit if they go beyond confirmation of your employment and its start and end date. Anecdotally, most people I'm around don't put actual managers as references. They put people down they know will give them a favorable reference to a potential new employer, such as a friend who will willingly play the part of a "previous employer

If you watch some of her more candid interviews you might have something there. Then again have you ever heard of a small person with even a small amount of real power? Many times when the person who feels overlooked and ignored for their good work get a chance they can be pretty vindictive when they get the reigns of power themselves.
You would think they would have the self-awareness to think this is my chance to show how things should be done. But I think that's probably a pretty rare person.
