Price is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra.
I believe mrs Florence would be happy to see such a sensefull performance! Honestly it is nice music, not robotic performance without spirit, thank you my fellow musician :)

And the only thing "Dvorak influnced" or otherwise about her music was her use of orchestral color. Her sense of harmony and melody come from her, her people, and the full American experience of her people including their original contributions to harmony, melody, rhythm and form.

And now this beautiful and exciting Fantasie, and your excellent interpretation and exquisite performance .... Wow! Thank you!

Whenever I run across a folk song medley, I check it out. I am one of those contemptible listeners who wants a simple melody. I don't like Pelleas et Melisande, I don't like Francesca da Rimini, and I don't like Love of Three Kings. Give me Carmen, Aida, or La Boheme any day.
Price is definitely not a romantic composer. I can definitely hear bits of modern day including jazz in this composition. Elijah, I love your interpretation of Price. Please share with me your thoughts on why you enjoy this composer. While I think she has absolutely wonderful talent myself, my taste is much older. It is a shame composers are not taught in public nor private schools. The only way to learn about composers is through your conservatoires or music college. I’m a proud mother of a fine musician.
Dissily Mordentroge I agree with you, I recorded this on my iPhone 7. It can also be the distance of the piano from my phone as well as the tone of the piano on the recording. It’s no Steinway, it’s a Yamaha, but in person the sound is nice.
Hi, everyone, and just one idea to consider: Non-musicians talk about a musician's talent. That's an extremely tiny part of what you hear. The larger part is called "practice". One trio I learned took me 40 hours of practice for a 44-minute piece, and I'm a professional pianist.
Florence Price talent was soo great! Just one problem : she was too much influenced by Beethoven, thus some cumbersome twist reminiscences of the German composer. It is good to play "shuffle" this piece even if not noted; what you tend to do … Go go do not hesitate shuffle up all this !
