- Florence Price dedicated Fantasie Negre (1929) to Margaret Bonds. The theme comes directly from the Negro Spiritual “Sinner, Please Don’t Let This Harvest Pass.” Soon after its composition, a dance troupe, led by Russian ballet teacher Ludmilla Speranza and pioneering African-American choreographer Katherine Dunham, premiered Fantasie Negre as a ballet. Bonds, a frequent and familiar interpreter of Price’s works, accompanied the performance.

A friend’s mom just introduced me to Florence Price today after church worship. I didn’t know we had such an elegant and powerful composer in America.
Samantha, you made it easier for me to play classical music around my friends as a black guy...lol.
Thank you so much for sharing Price's music. With the recent publications of many of her and Bonds' works, I have become a huge proponent of performing her works. More pianists (if not all) should have experience performing the works of these great American composers.
This was so intense! Just discovered Price! She is Amazing, and so is Samantha Ege. What a performance! Bravo.

What transporting piano music. I had not heard of Florence Price until a member of Pianostreet posted a link to this video. I shall now commence listening to as much of her music as I can find.

Sparkly impressionistic pops of color juxtaposed with sultry bluesy nods to sung spirituals, played in a way that conveys intimate knowledge of and confidence with the idiom. this is a splendid upload that could only be ameliorated with live video of your playing , but it's only a nice to have not a need to have.
I hear this and if I didnt know who wrote it I would swear it was written by William Grant Still. **applause

Thank you for recording this. Sounds great! I'd like to learn some of Price's piano music. You did a live video of her Piano Sonata which I enjoyed, but it would be nice if you could re-record (video) the Sonata and post it like you posted the Fantasie Negre, because the sound quality is so much better on the Fantasie than it was for the Sonata in the very echoing hall.
I recorded the whole sonata on my Four Women album (available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify etc.), enjoy!
