  • Florence Beatrice Price graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1906. Her rise in prolificacy and recognition coincides with a dynamic cultural movement that spanned the 1920s and 30s. It was a movement driven by African American intellectuals and visionaries, otherwise known as the Harlem Renaissance. Sonata in E minor (won first prize in the 1932 Rodman Wanamaker Music Contest. She became the first woman composer of African descent to achieve both national and international recognition.

    A new album comprising of largely unknown solo classical piano music will be released on 4 May 2018, bringing together for the first time the works of female composers long forgotten through history.

    Price 's work her symphony and big ambitions shine in everything presented to me ! Thanks for learning and programming this important music ! YOu and Michelle Caan and others are doing glorious work . Just saw that there are two violin concerti by Price published and being performed . We might call the 2020's the Price renaissance !

    I've been a fan of Florence Price's music and Samantha's interpretations for some time. Ms Ege exudes radiance and beauty in her playing. It's an irresistible combination.

    Thanks for posting this recording of such a great piece! Samantha, I downloaded your "Four Women" album from Amazon Music, but for some strange reason this movement (Track 1) on the album is missing. I think it was there when I first looked, but it seems to have disappeared. I see the track title on this link www.amazon.com/dp/B07C547SB9/ref=dm_ws_tlw_trk1 but when I click "Listen Now" it shows the whole album without this track.
