    Line your buckets on the ground, under the barn roof to catch rain. Later put up a gutter and use a barrel. Works here and I'm old.

    Bless his heart. He acts like he doesn't feel well. Not quitting is worth it in the end. I can't get my mom to understand that. I'm disabled and don't feel well she says don't go to the barn. I tell her you can't do that when animals depend on you. Have you ever tried wearing Liam on your back. I know he's big by he can sleep there. Good luck.

    Sweetness, Google the poem "Don't Quit,," it is a great thing to read when you are ready to throw in the towel! I became a Mom again at 43 and now am 48 and I FEEL YOU so much with the two little ones while homesteading! Hugs.

    That's one thing we haven't seen you do "quit". Nope, I don't think so. Poor little guy. Nothing like the comfort of moms arms.

    Hello my new friends! Appreciate you stopping by my channel! I've started using Ginger for my kids colds & other things, was thinking about growing some! Love your channel already. I'm not brave enough yet to start a full on homestead but we're doing like a half & half (we got the chickens & other things, and a garden etc.). We're considering moving to Montana though & be completely on our own. Gotta do more homework first.

    You sound a lot like me. Bite off more than we can chew. Sometimes I get overwhelmed because I nitpick and only look at what I haven't done. That's when my husband swoops in and reminds me of all I've accomplished and how many would have given up a long time ago in my shoes. Keep chugging. I feel you on the toddler and kids making everything that much more challenging. Just remember why you do it and keep positive.

    Perhaps a sump pump in your pond would work, if you have electricity to it and create floatation device(much like a dock) that keeps the pump at the level needed to keep the water trough for the goats full. keep on keeping on!

    Have you tried a swing in the barn near the milking stand? My brother was a toddler when we moved to the farm and a handful. Dad worked -- we went to school (left the house at 0630 to walk to the bus stop) -- so morning chores fell on Mom's shoulders except on the weekends. She had Dad install -- I'd call it a bucket swing -- in the barn. It kept my brother out of the stalls -- and the feed -- and anything else he could find to get into. She also had a wagon with wooden sides that she used to haul water and my brother up to the barn. In the winter, she had a sled with sides. I don't think she could have survived -- or my brother survived -- without them.

      He usually plays just fine these days. We have a big wooden train set that was given to us that he plays with. This time he just wanted mommy! He was tired!

    If you know of an old RV siting around waiting to be junked it may have a good 12 volt water pump in it. Wit a small solar panel you can keep a battery charged It will not give you a large stream of water but over time it can amount to a large volume.

    I'm doing good to garden with a 3 1/2 yr old, but I'm not in the garden everyday either...but when I am my lil one likes to be in a tote filled with a few inches of water to play in when it's warm enough...I didn't do much gardening when my older 3 were small...

    Wow,I really have been discouraged and feeling like giving up and when I say"I just can't go on,there's a message from somewhere that says don't give up,don't quit,Lol!And already feeling that way, every time I tried to get something done today,my handicapped sister or my granddaughter wanted my attention right then.I don't have a clothes dryer right now, thought the rain was over, but as soon as I hung the clothes on the line, the bottom dropped out.Whew! What a day!

    Hauling water sucks! And five gallon bucks? Wow! Could you use some kind of sump pump to get your water ? It might be cheaper than a full on pump.... just a thought

    it looks like he is going to be going through a growth spurt as my babies were like that just before they had a bit of a growth spurt clingy and needing an early nap. also you might try babywearing like a sling or carrier for your back so that your hands are still free to do other stuff

    Maybe a ram pump would work? I don't know if that would be cheaper than a normal pump. First one I found, a tiny one is $75 here. They do wear a bit, you need to replace valves. Or you could build one from parts, likely for cheaper.
    www.landtohouse.com/rampumpsales/
    Another alternative would be to dig PVC tubing over to the barn and have a spigot right there. Just put it far enough down to not freeze or make sure you can empty it fully during the winter.

    • @WholesomeRoots
      @WholesomeRoots  7 років тому

      Thank you! that would be awesome! unfortunately, we don't have a spare $1 right now...
