Its a shame that the abreast parlour has no place in modern farming. It is such a calm and relaxing way to milk cows. None of those cows are chained in, your stockmanship skills are excellent and the cows looks fantastic. A real credit to you. I could watch this all day.
great parlor for most any size herd. Some farmers around here milk anywhere from 40 and some milk 250 in the same type of parlor and another benefit is much calmer cows, Great video. would like to see more.
+Mosnang Holsteins I've been looking into inexpensive ways to milk and wondering if you've had any problems getting cows up on that step up platform or keeping them up there? Also in the 15 years you've been using it have you ever had any of them get hurt in doing so?
I really like this style of milking. You get to be so close and one on one with them. You would see right away if they had anything going on right away bc you can get an eye on the whole cow.
The 4 brown cows on the left are Jerseys; right? I guess they could be Guernseys or Brown Swiss,,,,,,,🐄🐮👢. Nice operation, cows are well kept. Two of my uncle's had farms; one had 20 acres with 6 Herefords in MA. The other had 200 Holsteins on a 300 acre farm in NH. Good friend has 150 Jerseys, on an 80 acre farm in Mendon, MA; Greener Acres. Learned a few things along the way,,,,,,,😎. Love the farms, lots to learn & lots to know!
Was wondering how high is the step up and would you change anything we are thinking of putting in a s six in an old tie stall barn converted to free stalls using the alley as a holding pen and feeding outside on a concrete pad milking around 40 head working on a limited budget and starting from scratch
Your milking operation looks systematic and efficient! Herd in general looks like well bred stock. . . . Jersey at 3:19 has a very nice rear udder, is she classified?? Thanks for posting. - P.H. South Carolina
You got a pretty nice parlour there. The flatline parlour is one with great efficiency and is largely underrated. Anyway, looking at your video i see that you loose quite a bit of time between cleaning the udder and putting on the machine. Once you cleaned the udder and stimulated the cow into releasing her milk (oxitosen) you might as well hook up the machine right away while you are there. Saves some walking and shaves some time off that 1.5 hrs of milking too. The other thing that i seen is that the auto takeoffs can't seem to keep the machines off the ground.
Hello, thanks for the comment. We like to leave the cows for 30-60 seconds before putting the machines on, it is something we have discussed with our veterinarian and agree that when the cow has let down her milk then they actually milk out faster than if put on directly after being wiped.
sir the 2 cows together is that 8 foot wide? how deep is the stall plat form from the floor to where the cow are standing? and is there a stanishion on the cows when they enter the stall?
Grew up milking in a straight 8 flat barn (not a step up) then moved into a double 6 herringbone. Worst mistake we ever did. My regards to a nice, calm, & quiet operation. When a barking dog is the loudest thing going, it's being done correctly.
I appreciate that your cows are docile, but please do the dairy industry a service and delete this video and make one where they are combed, clipped and cleaned/washed. You should never picture cows this dirty. Also, the fact that your milking claw and teat cups touch the concrete would not pass inspection.

LL I Love Cows why always negative comments when there are animals involved? People have lost there marbles. Too many generations removed from agriculture . Scary.

Nice video. Nice herd of cows. The video tells a lot , cows in good condition, clean and docile. That shows good management!!
Very calm, clean environment like the way this is setup.

Brendan Perry yes they're Jerseys.
They are Jerseys, we milk 5 or 6 and the rest are holsteins. Lots to learn on the farm that's for sure, we're happy to be raising our 4 kids here!
@@mosnangholsteins4124 The Jerseys come in handy this time of year; EGGNOG 11/1/18 - 1/1/19!
Still milking ? Retire from dairy ? Would love to see you post an update maybe a weekly vlog

@@mosnangholsteins4124 you are correct
Good work sir waiting for more video's love you ❤❤
you have some fine looking jerseys!
that last jersey in is show-worthy
do you have any videos training fresh heifers in the step up parlor?
We get asked this question a lot, so I guess we better get a video up soon!
Thanks!
Some smart cows there 👍
I love the walk thru milking barns they are so much more efficient
sir the 2 cows together is that 8 foot wide? how deep is the stall plat form from the floor to where the cow are standing? and is there a stanishion on the cows when they enter the stall?
Ours is just under 8 feet wide and the platform is 1 foot. The cows come in from a free stall barn twice a day for milking.
@@mosnangholsteins4124 thanks for the reply back sir, from randy m
Clean cows, happy cows, and your cows look great condition.
Thanks!
This video makes me appreciate my parallel even more, this one would make an old man out of ya in a hurry
It's not so bad, 15 years and no complaints yet. Quite a bit of walking, but much less when we have two people in there milking.
International1066 I've milked in a parallel parlor before and never had those issues
@International1066 you obviously never milked in a newer parallel with splash guards and manure catch.
What about them kicking??
Where do u house them
They cows are housed in a freestall barn just on the back side of the parlour.
Nice video.

Believe in Yourself .
i love this farm
we have a six a breast parlour and 180 cow it takes us six hours to milk with one man in the parlour.
That's way to long
I have never seen this before 😃
Beautiful bags
Step up parlor is literally the worst of both worlds
We love ours, good thing you don't have to milk in it I guess!
Good job
those cows are quiet
Happy cows are quiet cows. They only moo they want/need something.
i like that work
my twin brother...nice job
this parlor its for 100 cows,i milking 700 in 5hours,but not this
Absolutely, this parlour certainly isn't meant for milking 700 cows!
Do these cows really enjoy this no I don't think so 😪
