The game has been improving greatly very rapidly, I hope this keeps being thr case untill the full release, but the EA already seems like it will be a lot of fun. I am especially hyped by the fact that Co-op, Arcade AND campaign ALL get the love they deserve. I just hope that Frost giant officially supports the greatest part of that area of RTS, the community created content. Many great games have been spawned from RTS mods, and I've personally had tons of fun with expanded Co-op mods and expanded campaign mods. Community campaigns sometimes even made the main campaign feel unique again while not even changing the feels(Realscale Heart of the swarm for example.)
Community created content is one of the four pillars of Stormgate, so I'm hoepful about that part. They already showed us the editor, with the aim of making it as easy as WC3's and as deep as SC2's.
To be fair, that's how any video game development works. You starts from scratch and you iterate to implement and improve. Maybe the community can learn a thing or two about game dev.
Still not convinced by the art style, but you can definitely feel the passion behind this project, and I really appreciate you being so open throughout the whole process. Wish you the best with this launch !
While gameplay first is obviously great, what I'm waiting for with Stormgate is that magic and immersion you felt when first introduced to Warcraft or Starcraft. It's probably a byproduct of being shown so early in development, but it doesn't mean it can't get there eventually. Blizzard did a great job in the past of building up characters that we know and love today, like Arthas, Thrall, Jaina, Sylvanas, Zeratul, Kerrigan, Raynor and many more. I see the artstyle commented on a lot, while I don't have a problem with it, I can see the need for a more personolized touch as the game progresses to reach the masses.
To me its DOA pretty much. I mean it looks worse than what we've had before in every way. Its Fortnite graphics which dont work with the games story, since it takes itself serious Mobile graphics look worse than games we had 2010 Factions are a copy of Starcraft, nothing innovative like nightelves from Warcraft or anything It looks pretty generic visually, you can easily confuse it with other games too Seems like it wont have much content since once again sci-fi so mods will have little to work with Only good thing are maybe the UI improvements and something netcode related, thats it to me. The OST is also nice. So yeah, I dont see any "new generation" - just the "mobile generation" that looks worse than what we've had 14 years ago. No charm from Warcraft, little innovation and visually ugly and generic. *sigh*
Yeah there is a lot of positives of what Frost Giant is doing with Storm Gate, but they really need to work on making the units and buildings look better, just the visuals in general, the cut scenes kind of sucked too, was generic af. Like when you look at a screenshot of Warcraft 2, even 3 (before reforged) any screen looks amazing because of the art style and how cool the units look…
I really hope this goes well for the team. They seem so genuine. I think what people have to remember is how small this team is compared to say the SC II team. They are really punching anove their weight, just by the fact that they are comparable games.
I really appreciate this company’s efforts to make RTS games more accessible to “non-skilled” players. One of the things that always annoyed me about playing RTS games against other people is the tendency for people to just play by the “meta” and if you don’t play that way, you can’t win. I’m really looking forward to seeing these other game modes they are talking about. Can they can break the tendency of people to find one way of winning and just keep doing that? Keep up the great work!

Thank you thank you thank you! This video is exactly what I needed. I loved Warcraft and Warcraft 2 and StarCraft 1 & 2, I crowdfunded this and enjoyed everything I've seen so far. But all the concerns in my head, feeling not good enough to compete, more interested in having fun without feeling like I suck. The auto-bot, the different ways to play, the new factions! This video was much appreciated!
The Buddybot feature is super interesting! It reminds me a lot about how I learned to play Grand Strategy games like HOI4 or Stellaris by controlling a faction cooperatively with an AI.

I am impressed by the progress you made happen in a relatively short time and had an absolute blast during the beta periods. As someone having played it quite a bit, I can confirm what they're saying about the engine: It feels insanely snappy and fun. You'll know within a matter of hours of starting, I guarantee it.
I like that consideration is being given to fans of classic RTS, but who also have other things to do besides devote their time to following development or being concerned with what hardcore players are doing to wring every last bit of optimization and gonzo gameplay tactics out of the whatever the latest build is. It's become an unfortunate trend that many modern games provide little guidance on gameplay mechanics and just assume every player must surely be following all aspects of development since day one, and that whole "we can't be bothered to explain how the game works because we're still figuring it out ourselves, so just figure it out for yourself too" element of so many modern games is insufferable. One of the great things Starcraft did was introduce mechanics via gameplay and learning by example, then ramping up the difficulty, and it will be nice to see that carry over to Stormgate as well.

Alot of creep factions (dreanei, naga, legion, lots of random stuff), item system, hero system and alot more. So by content it will be worse than what we've had and by quality it cant catch up to Starcraft either...Mobile Generation, can't wait! But hey as long as we go all Esports and make Starcraft with creeping its fine right? cause thats the sole reason any game is popular right? lol
@@PuellaMagiHomuraAkemi As someone who has played both, Stormgate already feels better in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay. It was mostly just missing Tier 3 units to enable more build variety. Not to mention the engine, SC2 feels kinda laggy here in South America.
@@eduardoserpa1682 I played both too, Stormgate feels fine control-wise but not in any way better lol. Only advantage it will have is that its easier to cast with multiple different units. Anything else is more of a step backwards. I mean that depends on who you play with. SC2 is very smooth even when I play with someone from the US from Europe and general performance is great since its an old game. I get it though that the netcode is an advantage. Those are however overshadowed by the bigger things to me but I'll never deny that the OST, netcode and controls/UI are are good or ahead but those are like the icing on a cake, which is not that great if the cake itself is equal to stale bread.
I first hopped into RTS games in 2016. Very late starter, overwhelming to learn but it was incredibly fun for the bit that I did play. I can’t wait to jump back with this game! Especially playing with others

Good video and thanks for the update. I love the RTS and this year will be so good with Stormgate and AoM:Retold. Tbh i prefer retold where every unit dont have special abilities like in Stormgate where most of units have extra buttons to press, not just positioning and focus targeting in large battles. Also cartoon graphics is what it is. But what drives it so forward is the love you are putting into this game, polishing, not be afraid to risk and scratch ideas if they dont work. Dont call yourself indie company, but company of legends. GL HF !
I was unsure of my pledge and considered refunding because i thought they will go the pvp esport multiplayer way but this video is reassuring that they realize a huge majority dont want to suffer against expert players in multiplayer
Tim Morten spoke about this...somewhere, can't remember where...that SC2 the majority of players never play PvP, but the PvP minority play the most (if that makes sense) - so Stormgate has to focus on both cohorts equally.

The competitive scene delivers content to engage with and lures players in, who in turn like to play the game they watch so much from more casually, which in turn lures other players in wanting to play with them, increasing the playerbase for more competitive players. Hey, Star Party mapmaker here from Starcraft 2, I'd love to make a similar game into Stormgate, whenever you want ;) -- StarParty is a Mario Party genre game with lots of polished minigames and board mode with events, minerals, stars, etc. just like in MP. If you want that to be part of SG, I'd love to make it.
Been supporting Frost Giant since day 1 and very happy to see they are doubling down on giving us the next generation of the genre we love. I hope they put out a stellar game that thrives.
One of my biggest issues when playing RTS games with a less experienced friend is that I often finish the game 1v2 before my friend even starts producing anything. I have high hopes for the "Buddy bot" that was mentioned, as it will hopefully make the game more engaging and prevent it from just being about watching your more experienced friend play and finish the game without you.
Pre purchased the game, but I only have a steam deck... hope it will run on very low at least :( Even if it doesn't run on the deck i'm happy to see the money go to these passionate people
Can't wait to play Stormgate next week ! What I am hoping for is the possibility to have the assistant AI reminding you that you should do this and that rather than doing it for me. I think I'll learn better this way

I think for celestials to be any good in this way, the structures need to be cheaper. Certainly significantly cheaper than they are currently. Some should also have quicker build times given the limitations of building area early on provided by the arcship. This would work just fine imo given the units are not very good compared to other factions.
I just hope this game gets a community, have 150+ hours from the beta and its great fun. Imagine what we could get in terms of updates etc down the line , since thats how free to play game makes money..

playing broodwar in its late golden age is what got me into rts as a kid, being apart of the zerg revolution with jaedong at the helm, those were some good times. sc2 was alright but it never felt like the original. this has some classic vibes with a modern feel from the looks of it. ill be playing at launch.
The progress that this game had from the first reveal to now is awesome cant wait to see how it will progress further and i cant wait to start playing the campaign and co-op mod
Looking forward to delving into the modding tools and creating the next "dota". People forget that a big part of the Blizzard RTS games was the custom games, I'd argue in some cases the custom games outshined the core game. This all seems very possible in Stormgate - but of course I want both the core game and the custom games to flourish.
Somebody ask about it, If I remember correctly the answer is: not in nearest future, but they think about add that functionality later. It's just nor priority at the moment
I asked on their Discord and there is a desire for adding an offline mode for the campaign, but we'll see when that happens. I personally hope that it will be added for the campaign, custom games, and LAN, since it ensures the longevity of the game beyond any potential server shutdown as well as being a big reason for why I got into RTS in the first place.
wondering if the lore and the story is atleast as deep and as long as starcraft story, or its just more focus on pvp and less on lore n campaign compare to sc universe? and my hope for multiplayer feature is like co-op just like sc2 but with option of survival and lastmanstanding option.
The world lore was built by Micky Neilson (one of the founding writers of blizzard) and Chris Metzen. Micky is the main Frost Giant campaign writer going forward, so I assume the campaign will be very "blizzard esque" in terms of story
I think one thing that StarCraft failed at - imo, of course - was the team PvP aspect. A lot of people love team PvP in other RTS games, and it should be a focus for the devs alongside 1v1. It's nice to see they taking strides towards that side of the game.
As an Australian, I cannot overstate how much I appreciate the ping reduction technology

Hope we get more focus on 2v2 and 2 player co-op. It's tough to communicate with 3 players, yet alone get everyone on at the same time.

This would work just fine imo given the units are not very good compared to other factions.

Stormgate is running on every PC brother, thats why they chose this minimalistic artstyle just like valorant.

I do love SC2 and hope some day i will be abke to play some better version of it. As for for now i feel that SG is better version of Warcraft so not much of my toys. Still, you already got my money xD cos i wanna support RTS genre that i love.

playing broodwar in its late golden age is what got me into rts as a kid, being apart of the zerg revolution with jaedong at the helm, those were some good times. sc2 was alright but it never felt like the original. this has some classic vibes with a modern feel from the looks of it. ill be playing at launch.

Looking forward to delving into the modding tools and creating the next "dota". People forget that a big part of the Blizzard RTS games was the custom games, I'd argue in some cases the custom games outshined the core game. This all seems very possible in Stormgate - but of course I want both the core game and the custom games to flourish.

Will the campaign be playable offline? I am forced to live on a laptop, so I don't always have online connection when I play things.
Somebody ask about it, If I remember correctly the answer is: not in nearest future, but they think about add that functionality later. It's just nor priority at the moment
Their goal is the campaign at least will be offline in future.

I asked on their Discord and there is a desire for adding an offline mode for the campaign, but we'll see when that happens. I personally hope that it will be added for the campaign, custom games, and LAN, since it ensures the longevity of the game beyond any potential server shutdown as well as being a big reason for why I got into RTS in the first place.
Correct. An offline mode is in our roadmap for Early Access but will not be available at EA launch.

wondering if the lore and the story is atleast as deep and as long as starcraft story, or its just more focus on pvp and less on lore n campaign compare to sc universe? and my hope for multiplayer feature is like co-op just like sc2 but with option of survival and lastmanstanding option.
The world lore was built by Micky Neilson (one of the founding writers of blizzard) and Chris Metzen. Micky is the main Frost Giant campaign writer going forward, so I assume the campaign will be very "blizzard esque" in terms of story
I think one thing that StarCraft failed at - imo, of course - was the team PvP aspect. A lot of people love team PvP in other RTS games, and it should be a focus for the devs alongside 1v1. It's nice to see they taking strides towards that side of the game.
