Not going to lie man you need to stop looking at the camera so much and when someone speaks to you when you interview them it would generally be a good idea to pay attention to what they're saying. You were ' yeah, yeahing"the guy while he was telling you about the truck and looking around all over the place and staring at the camera. It comes off as rude and not giving a damn what the person has to say.

I would never buy one, for the same money you can get a much bigger one, but I'm from the UK, and the roads over hear are a nightmare for vehicles of this size, plus we have a restriction of 3.5T on regular car licence. So I'm gonna be getting a second hand one, that is bellow 3.5T. ..

    • @SurelyYewJest
      @SurelyYewJest 9 років тому +32

Dee Jay I would have to agree. If I'm selling my house and living out of this thing with a wife and kids, I'm probably getting something bigger and much more RV-like. Granted those other options won't off-road like this thing will, but they will have more liveable space beyond a cab, a bed, and a kitchen walkway.
Considering the truck this is based on comes in at $62k, there's a LOT of headroom to get to $475k. Adding the chassis and RV portion is probably $100k by itself, but adding appliances, the bed, and console should be another $100k (but I'm not in that business so maybe it is). The solar panels have to add a decent chunk, but even for homes solar panels will be $40k to cover an entire roof, not the top of half an RV. I'm guessing the winching equipment, specialized hubs, and associated electronics and such are where the other costs are hiding.
This thing is cool and very capable. I'm just not sure I'd get this package as it seems pretty pricey for what it is.

It's funny all the people complaining about the price. They obviously don't build these for the middle/lower class. It's a high end toy for the rich or for someone willing to sell their house and live out of it and have a job that lets them travel or are retired. If I had the means, I'd definitely get the HD F650 and just live out of it.

Kevin Rogers I've never understood why nobody in the industry has attempted to employ utilizing turbines that run on alcohol connected to generators to generate electricity and then run electric motors.from them. Even the extended range hybrids use piston engines as a generator and use gasoline. I think that turbines would be more efficient as they spin much faster and alcohol can be made out of anything. We could even grow our fuel.

I agree the price is excessive, but I don't think people are understanding the Niche market for one of these trucks... I see slot of "you can buy luxury RV's for that price" which yes you can but this is meant to be able to camp out anywhere - as in OFF ROAD anywhere! The trucks they build are $282,000 - $500,000. It has a wine cooler. For some reason I don't see the owners using them to their full capability. Rich family has it driven to an area that is a mile away from pavement, they meet it and have a little picnic, then off they go to party on their yacht that never leaves the dock.

the economy is booming? people with lots of money tend to do better when the economy is down so being able to afford an over priced toy does not mean the economy is doing well.. btw, if you can afford half a million for a camper do you really care how many mpg you get?

    • @DanMar5858
      @DanMar5858 9 років тому +2

And all the people crying about 10 mpg probably don't drive a truck. The F-550 has a very low rear diff ratio, probably 4.3 or 4.5 which lowers your fuel economy vs. say an F-250. Heck my work truck is an F-350 with 4.10 rear diff and a 5.4L gas engine and it gets 10 mpg empty!! So as heavy as this thing is with the over sized tires and low rear end gears is doing pretty good to get 10 mpg. But you can't argue with some people.

Let's do a little honest evaluation here: 1) half the floor plan is taken up by seats that is from aft of the driver. 2) There's only one cooking element range top. 3) If you fold out the lower bed those in the loft area have to trample the sleepers below for a middle of the night snack or potty break, hmm... 4) Comfortably sleeps 4 with a 5 gallon toilet tank. Ok, so you get 1.25 gallons per person of "poopy space" which means emptying that thing daily. The F-450 (no F-550 on the Ford website) Platinum is $71,000 truck, but surely you guys are buying a cutaway version which would be cheaper So $55,000 perhaps? So let's say you upgrade the truck frame for $30,000 in improvements or even $60,000. Potentially the total cost of the truck is$125,000 which means the remainder of $350,000 for the camper. Hmm, yeah I'm not seeing it. The cost of the camper is the cost of a decent new house in say, Texas. Perhaps this is why you've only sold 140 units at the date of this video. It seems like all of the focus is on the self sufficiency and motoring aspect (minus the toilet), but falls short in the creature sustaining aspect most notably in food prep.
Obviously you've developed this for niche market of pretend adventurers with loads of money who will be stopping at restaurants and cafes quite a bit enroute telling themselves that they're on a worldwide wilderness excursion!

Currently, have retired from RV life, cause of medical
conditions/small retirement finances. Retirement funds have not met with the
international financial index. SS Ins. is nothing, does not combat cost of
living. Plus some genes, grow older faster; can not keep up with traveling.
My favorite is a small TOY HAULER; because there's a lot of things you could do
in the attached rear garage and if you don't get a fifth wheel toy hauler, just
conventional toy hauler, you can always get a new TOW UNIT: ( Truck or SUV); not out a lot of money
compared to the class A or Class C motorhomes. Any types of RV Trailers, is having a diversified RV portfolio. I ENJOY the garage portion, great protected garage- patio,
plus some have bath tubs and frt kitchen in the floorplan. I hate galley
kitchen, cause of traffic flow issues. Garage is great storage for toys, or
thro in air mattress, great sleeping. Slide outs are okay, but just another
problem, when least expected. Solar panels are must have, better then
    generator….
Class A Motorhomes okay if you're going to be mobile, & have lot of bank accounts for infinity
of repairs. . They're very expensive to maintain/ operate, they have a lot of toys on them, so be ready for breakdowns, warranties are
useless. Accessories are known to break break break… If you wreck them, Ins.
are very poor to pay out!! Not many mechanics really know how to work on them,
expensive $$ beast. Good mechanics are working in union auto garages, not RV garages.
Diesels are smelly, both around the patio and smells lurk in to the units
interiors. I ditched my diesel, could not stand the smell of diesel around the coach.
Class C motorhomes are very mobile to get around, sleeper
over the cab is a waste of time : either too hot or too cold for good sleeping
and if your senior, it's very risky getting in and out of there. Plus if
there's two people sleeping up there, the frame over the cab really can't
support much activity. Class C is more
affordable, less toys on them compared to the Class A & the upkeep is
considerable less, plus USA parks are designed to fit class C, not class A.
I would prefer a truck frame chassis with a trailer attached
to it, because if you don't like the truck frame chassis, always get another one, just remove the
trailer, get a new Chev /Ford truck frame, and attach the trailer on to the frame.. Engines
are up front, so repairs are much easier/ cheaper, cause of being accessible.
    I have: Class A,
Trailer and Truck camper. Truck / SUV
are the only two of all of the above mentioned units, which have Lemon Law
Protections. RV in general, carry no help from the courts and RV warranties,
are collection of A-Z products and not insured by one manufacturer. My trailer
is great for long length stays in the desert, Class A is okay, but expensive
for interstate traveling and my camper has over 500,000 miles on it, as this is
my weekend RV and gets a lot of usage. Wish my camper had a Murphy Bed, hate the over head sleeper and most of the
time, sleep on floor. Store my units on my property and visit them daily.
SIDEBAR: Ageing, lack of finances, is not our friend for RV’s and traveling.
Remember, RV’s are not loved by everyone, there is equal love/ hate for RV’s,
as many call us trailer trash. Many cultures invading USA are not warm/fussy
    towards RV’s.
Stellar boon-docking is great, when traveling day to day.
Prefer to pay to park and received full hookups and use the unit, which is was
intended for: FULL HOOKUPS. Remember, there is no LEMON LAW to protect RV
units, so off road n boon-dock with caution, as the units are built very
fragile & not intended for moon terrain walking. Snow n freezing temps, are
not RV best friend, no matter how they are rated, they have no LEMON LAW
protection against severe low temps. Remember, over night fees for RV camping
can be pricey, some are reaching $100 ( PLUS)
per night and more and more are privately owned w/ annual membership by
    prescription.
Point of Interest, no RV was designed to travel: Snow,
freezing temps and day after day rain/wind storms. Extreme weather quickly
takes years off of the RV coach, there were not built for this abuse.
Here is a question for all RV owners: Do you advertise your
bank account finances to the world? Reply: No!!!. So why advertise the cost of
your RV to the world: via fancy paint
jobs, luxury tow units, luxury tow boats, chrome everything/ anything. RV’s who advertise their wealth, are only
advertising to the nation, I have arrived
in wealth and heck with your thoughts. Flashy RV’s ruin lifestyles for
everyone. Stellar & non-monochromatic downplayed units, fit in everywhere
and are less offensive to the nation, which do not have RV’s. We live in a
country of extreme biases. Less is really more, when traveling and exploring USA.
    littlefreelibrary.org/start/
I belong to this free library, allows me to pick up books
for free, anywhere in the USA and return to any location. Every city has this
and is free and better then internet books. I have spent days in parking lots,
using Wifi for free, when many stores and restaurants provide it for free. Now
the little library, allows for national library, where ever anyone travels for
free. RV’s don’t need TV/ IT/when we have free books at our disposal. Remember,
some books, government archived shows, you tube, news, etc. can be download
from IT for free, providing 100 hrs of viewing, anytime, anywhere, without IT
    connections.
