I did not think I could be any more enamoured by Queen Margarethe but hearing her use the word 'snob' (obviously being jovial and serious) to describe another person ...... so refreshing and lovely! 😍
Here I sit 03 January 2024 and in two days saw all 6 videos with so much enjoyment and taking it all in. In a few days her Royal Majesty Queen Marguerite of Denmark will abdicate and her first born Prince Frederick will be crowned King with the most beautiful gracious former Australian Mary Donaldson as his Queen. What an amazing family. Thank you for loading on UA-cam this amazing family history. Sadly many of the younger generation like former King Constantine have passed. RIP wonderful people that one way or another left a mark in this world.
Thanks for downloading the series, have thoroughly enjoyed all six episodes. Prince Michael of Greece has been my favourite contributor, I could listen to him for hours, he's hilarious.
This was a great series. I really appreciate all the family who were so gracious to share their interesting family history. In reality their entire family history has been one of public service. Apart from all that, it is much easier to understand and remember history from first hand accounts. This is just breathtaking. Thank you to all who participated.
I was totally captivated by all 6 of these episodes and it was so interesting and enjoyable to get so much of the story directly from the family members.
I am very touched by the way of the documentary, telling one family can stand together - and it's still proved today, they are close family. Thank you.
I came across this series by happen stance and I went back to watch the entire thing, its so interesting and brakes down all of European Royalty for those of us who aren't familiar. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in royalty etc. I absolutely loved it and I'm sure I'll watch again someday. It is that good.
I love all the chapters of these series. Especially the fact that the same descendents of the royal three are the ones telling the story. I'm very pleased.
Just watched all 6 parts of this documentary. Wow. This is probably the most informative documentary I've ever seen. Its not every day you get to interview royals about their descendants. :) I love royal history (from any country)!
I second Michelle: thanks so much, six times over. Excellent narration; excellent film clips (many of which I'm sure are rare); and an excellent selection of photographs. But the real joy for me, are the commentaries that the descendants of King Christian IX and Queen Louis make: not only do they add historical context to the subjects, they also make their ancestors come to life through the delightful personal vignettes. (As but only one example, the late Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg's reminiscences of "Uncle Gogi" and of her introduction to peanut butter.) Equally important is just how poised, thoughtful, and articulate the commentators are; they give a whole new depth to people who may have been better known primarily from their appearances in gossip columns. Dare I hope that this series might be updated at some point in the future? (Greedy of me, I know, but the series as a whole is so excellent that I don't want it to end.) Again, my thanks for making this available to us.
This has been the most wonderful and informative series on the European Royalty I have ever seen. All thanks to King Christian the 9th of Denmark. I can see why he is called the Father in Law of the European Royalty, this was very interesting to me. Thank you for sharing this very Historical Series o the Royal Families of Europe.
On Dec. 29th, 2022, in Europe I saw announced on Wikipedia the death of 89 year old Maximilian, Margrave of Baden, a German aristocrat, the head of the house of Baden. He was a great
What a great history. My favorites are the Royals of Denmark. Very in touch with their people and without any pretentions. And they all have killer-smiles that reaches their eyes.
What a wonderful documentary that explained the links between these royal families and included stories about them, passed down from the descendants. Through these stories and recollections, we are made to feel the humanity in the facts and the personalities in the pictures. Well done!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!
I was so thrilled to see this episode ! My husband is even getting into it. Thank you for your work. This is a fantastic group of Royal History buffs 🌸
Very amazing stories! I am from Asia and I love fairy tales while growing up. And I thank the author for sharing this to the public through UA-cam. I live for a long time in Germany and the more that I am so excited to learn more of the history of Europe and the different Kingdoms, Royals and events, etc.... Thank you for sharing your researches, stories, books and videos to us! God bless you more!
An omission in this series is the failure to point out that Prince Michael of Kent is a double descendant of Christian IX: his father was the grandson of Queen Alexandra of the UK and his mother was the granddaughter of George I of Greece.
Thank you for this most interesting video. Many years have gone by since King Frederik IX bade farewell to his youngest “firkløver”, Princesse Anne-Marie on her wedding to King Constantine of Greece in 1969; she looked so young then.
At 23:14, the narrator meant to say Princess Marie's sister-in-law Czarina Dagmar (or Maria) not Prince Waldemar, who was Dagmar's brother. The narrator was off with relationships or facts from other episodes before this.
Thank you for posting this series. As an American who is a teacher of British Literature, I have always had a need to familiarize myself with British history in order to give historical context to my students. While aware of Victoria’s contributions around the world, I was not aware of the Danish Royal Family’s considerable contributions to the world wide royal families. I have been aware of the very tight relations between all of the monarchies, but Queen Victoria always gets the credit as the the Grandmother of Europe. I do follow the current royals, so so wonderful to see Queen Margerethe “Daisy” a bit younger and so pretty, and CP Frederick so young. I love to see the birthday photos of CP Frederick and CP Mary’s children. They are lovely.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series and it shows as much about the nature of the living relatives as those long gone. I would be interested to see the written family tree Thank you.
I really enjoyed the series and wished they had more children just to watch more of it. I know very egoistic 😂🙈. Congrats I really really loved this. ❤️
Thyra insisted that the little girl should grow up in Denmark. She did, but it isn´t quite clear what happened. The best substantiated is as follows: Maria spent 4 years with the ironer at Glüksborg. She was then adopted to an M.S. in pharmacology Rasmus Jørgensen and his wife Anne Marie in Odense. There is a story of a rejected return. In 1902, Maria married Lieutenant Frode Pløyen-Holstein. He died in 1942, She died in 1964. The marriage remained childless. She lived her adult life on "Tangegaard" near Lundeborg on Funen.
So very interesting this series, thank you for enlightening some of us. I have Danish on both sides of my family and can't wait to do some ancestry work around my relatives.
OKAY.......IN THE BEGINNING AS A VERY YOUNG WOMAN....... VICTORIA WASN'T BAD LOOKING.... AND SHE WAS A VERY VERY SEXUAL WARM WOMAN... I KNOW THIS FROM LETTER's SHE WROTE TO HERSELF...... Unfortunately, as is pointed out in this series, incest is fairly common. King Haakon VII of Norway as well as his son King Olav V married their 1st cousins respectively, and King Juan Carlos I of Spain had great great grandparents who were uncle and niece. Also Valdemar was gay and I’m not 100% certain on the sexuality of Prince George of Greece and Denmark. The notion is not too infeasible
I've been watching this in shock mostly. I can't believe how many European royalty are Danish. This guy must have been very ambitious. Just finished the series. So all of Europe is connected. I don't believe I have any Danish blood, but I've visited Copenhagen and Norge. I loved both countries and would dearly love to return for an extended visit. This royal family is remarkable. I think it's amazing we can see and hear the children and grandchildren who have thrived despite many tragedies. I sense also they have a strong Christian faith. So anyway, thank you for this wonderful documentary about such an outstanding father-in-law!!
Judith Meyer wouldn't be even more shocked knowing that their Dutch princess Dagmar who married the Czar of Russian Empire, became a Christian Orthodox and took her name Maria.Feodorovna. Nocolas 2, the last Czar of Russia, is her son. Google, The Grand Duchess Dagmar and Nocolas 2. Also they were and still related to Queen Victoria and present GB Royalty. Also "Royal Dutch Chell company" which is all over the World.
Luda Stout, Dutch is Holland, for your information. It is not Denmark. 2 different countries 😂 нужно было в школе лучше учиться, Люда. Чтобы Данию и Нидерланды не путать.
A fascinating documentary. So much emphasis is placed on the British royals' history that there isn't room for the Danish royals. I was surprised to dee that there are many connections between the two families. I'd always planned to visit the family lands my ancestors emigrated from. My first ancestors came from the Netherlands in 1627 and were Dutch. In 1653 the next group came. They were French Huguenots living as refugees in the Netherlands but were originally from Normandy where they'd settled centuries before after leaving Denmark and were members of the nobility. They did well in America and had probably brought some wealth with them. They bought huge landholdings after the British stole the Dutch colony and they'd lost their positions with The Dutch West India Company. After over two hundred years of Dutch/French marriages I acquired Welsh, Scottish, Irish, German grandmothers and a Sicilian Grandfather. Too many countries to visit and now I'm too old.
I've always been interested in history and the several royal families most specially the Romanovs. I know European royals are interconnected somehow but I've never seen a documentary this extensive and I learned so much here. I enjoyed watching royalties actually tell the stories of their ancestors so candidly. I wish there's a copy of this in Asia so I can buy it or something.
athenstar10 I like that as well. I like it so much that I even have a playlist of books I have reviewed about them. There will be more on the way. :-) Which ones have you read?
I like all of this stuff too. I read and review a lot of books about this time period on my channel. Recently though I have branched out and rad about other topics,. I guess that's good?

Thank you for this beautiful insight into the world's royal families.

One of the most important things about history is to remember that history shouldn't be viewed anachronisticly.
While yes, it's natural to compare the past with today and it's supposed to be that way, our ideals change so much over so little time. You have to find that middle ground.
For example, as you pointed out, when we think of this practice it sounds so ridiculous because of course we know the health hazards and heartache that stem throughout the family tree because of it. But back then the effects were beginning to just be hinted at. Then on the other hand, the same still has to happen because history teaches us the best lessons and to compare, is to learn.
In all, it's best to go through life open minded, asking questions, and remembering there are several sides to every story.
