i dont think this is going to go the same way the game did. sunny's more... alive. in game a character trait of his is that hes constantly dissassocitating, his sense of reality is messed up, and he just wants to go back to sleep. to the point that he dreamt of an entire adventure while out with his friends, and we dont know if he did that consciously seeing him actually interact with his environment without being asked to, this is définitely going to be a plot point later other things that changed: Aubrey hit basil and he didnt even cry, in game he was just crying from fear. this was used to prove basil is incredibly unstable on the daily in the manga aubrey says "we couldnt save mari", adding onto the 2 hints we got in the game that mari did give off bad vibes sunny CONSCIOUSLY tries stabbing aubrey, with camera angles showing he aimed for the head. ingame it was just a slash that kel managed to forget omori tells sunny "You have been living here for as long as you can remember". in game it was just a genuine thought from sunny forgetting, as is normal when dreaming ...someone had to tell me that the hooligans arent there.
Same. Could just be wistful thinking, but I would like it if this slightly different setup ends up leading to brand new moments with these characters to flesh them out in ways that the game didn't, and maybe even provide new surprises for fans of the story (since it already shows the violin and spoils Mari's death far earlier). Besides, you could easily replace a bunch of the Headspace content with different stuff that shows different sides of Sunny's psyche that the game didn't focus on (personally hoping that the scrapped anime school location ends up coming back but hey, a man can dream)
@@Mango-zs7ky It's meant to take place within the same medium. You start off at the same 3 days, the same scenario (but slightly altered and wrong in a lot of ways.) It's a separate medium, but the same general storyline.
@@Mango-zs7kyIts supposed to be the same characters and the same story beats But it manages to mischaracterize aubrey so hard i literally left the manga It sucks
I mostly got 2 issues with the manga. One is that Sunny leaving his house didn't feel like a big revelation since its literally the first thing he does in this manga. It doesnt feel like he hasnt left the house in 4 years, especially with how casually he hangs out with Kel. Second is that Sunny attacking Aubrey didn't make much sense with the context given. In the game, it's implied that he did it because he had a hard time distinguishing the real world and headspace because the fights were shown in a game format, so he saw fighting Aubrey as any other fight in headspace and didn’t think of the consequences of seriously injuring her.
genuinely dont know who is adapting the game into the manga because they arent hitting ANY of the emotional highs omori has with the same plot beats. the art is good for the most part (ignoring that the artist is an alleged shotacon) but the contents of it is just not it 😭😭😭
@@GoldenWreck im sorry, you dont know the whole story. people pretend we can brush it off, and sure, its been a long time since then, but she still said alot of creepy things on her twitter
@@leedlelel2373 Oh yes well that's no good then. It's really not that hard to not be a creep, and as far as I know she still hasn't apologised to her kickstarters for the shocking level of communication with them when Omori was getting developed. That's why even though I'm really impressed with her work especially as an apparent rare female game developer, she's just given me vibes that I just don't digest well.
Other than the manga having a confusing pacing, the way Aubrey was presented in the manga is disappointing. Sure, she was pissed at her friends for not being there for her + she had her own personal problems but she NEVER attacked Basil like that. The worst thing she did was take his photo album, and pushed him in the lake and that's it. Also why isn't Aubrey's new friend group there? They were really important to the story's progression, so why aren't they there?
Tbf that's only the worst thing she's done that we know of, but yeah she does seem off. Hopefully it'll make more sense when the following chapters release
@ObiAlmighty That's fair yeah, but what she did was an accident and she pretty much did it out of anger. The moment Basil fell into the lake she knew she already fucked up (she said "Shoot" and "I didn't mean to-" during that time)
ok but aubrey was way more aggressive in the manga. she didnt litterally push him down and say those things. she was made a way worse character in the manga
Tbf when she is saying those awful things her facial expressions seem much more hurtful then angry, which imo makes it seem that she doesn't fully mean the things she's saying and is simply projecting her 4 years of pain/resentment on Sunny (no I'm not coping wdym)
All of headcanons of Sunny being mostly expressionless has been shattered, thrown down a cliff and got ran over by a semi truck a couple of times. Damn that hurt. Though I feel like this is definitely not for "beginner omori fans" or something. I would MUCH prefer someone to play the game first than reading the manga. Also I love how dry this guy's humor is. You really remind me of moist critical lol.
I thought it was canon that Sunny started repressing his emotions after Mari's dea+h. I was excited to see Sunny express more emotions in the manga, but I think he's a bit too expressive Boss's humor is still great though lol
Not really. The manga serves more of a secondary canon to the game, not a primary canon. The game already shows Sunny being mostly emotionless (doesn't feel emotions outside of hallucinations and a fly segment, can't feel emotions above tier 1, can't feel happy, neutral expression is literally identical to omori's, sunny's emotion a minute after Aubrey says that Mari dies is quite literally neutral.) I doubt the manga is even canonical. You have things happening in it that never happened in the game. Why is Aubrey even carrying the pictures on her, why is Sunny going to try and stab Aubrey, why is he entering into a panic attack, why is he entering white space?
I dont mind if they do Omori story again in manga form but I really hope for something more. i personally hope they do a Scott pilgrim approach. it kept the core elements of Scott Pilgrim story but changed a big chunk of it. It was a completely different story while still feeling like it was still a part of Scott Pilgrim. This is what I hope for the Omori manga. again I wont be mad if they just do the same story but I really hope for something more
me personally i would've been totally fine with an exact retelling but in the medium of a manga, i think that if you change a lot of things about omori it can VERY easily mess up a TON of the narrative so it's risky to change a lot so far though... they've kinda ruined a couple things. not too optimistic for what comes next
@sansgaming607 The game can't work in a manga format because it's designed for a video game. Headspace feeling like a slog at parts, the Blackspace scene where you have to stab Mewo, every scene with SOMETHING, the entire Truth sequence. It all works within a video game format. Adapting it to a manga does require changes.
I was actually hoping the manga would include independent side stories that expand the main cast and their friendship. Stuff like more aventures in HS with the ocasional blackspace leakage, the RW friends hanging out from before Mari d¡ed, the way each RW friend dealt with Mari's de@th, etc In any case I'm still curious on how the story will turn out
I honestly went into the manga expecting a decent amount of headspace stuff to get cut, but I do wish they at least showed the very first tutorial section with the photo album and Basil's plants and all that. Even without all the time spent in Otherworld I think that section does a really good job of introducing the characters and would be enough to make the whole scene with Aubrey hit harder. I'm still optimistic that people who are already fans of OMORI could enjoy this as new content but just because of this beginning I definitely think I'd recommend people play the game first before reading the manga. I think the experience of leaving the house for the first time and discovering what the real world in OMORI is like, along with finding out how much things have changed for everyone would be lessened a bit if you had already read this first chapter. It was interesting to see something somewhat new with the Christmas scene at the very beginning though and I'm definitely curious to see exactly where they go with the story from here.
well theyre just meeting mari and basil for the picnic, so i think the basil stuff will be in the next chapter. i wish they kept the scene that happened in neighbor's room to show off the headspace personalities compared to the real world ones
@@viniciusgoulart5077I just looked up omori manga and I was able to access the English version online. I’m in the USA though so it may be different for other people
I'll always disagree with Sunny having more emotions until the day I die. Sunny is MEANT to not be emotional, he's meant to be a stoic person whos emotions are always just blank. In the game, the only time he gets emotions... are during hallucinations, or a specific fly segment. Said fly segment goes to really only show his anger issues to begin with. It doesn't exactly help that Sunny can't even feel emotions above tier 1, let alone even feel happy. Him being afraid at literally everything doesn't make sense. Especially the whole "panicking over Mari" thing, because a minute after Aubrey says that Mari died in the game, his face is completely blank. Why is he going into a panic attack?
Imo it would be fine if he showed a bit of emotion in the manga besides 100% neutrality all the time (a very slight smile when he finds Kel's shenaningans funny, slightly wider eyes when surprised, etc). He shows emotions in game when Kel and Hero hug him by the treehouse and when he uses certain items in Faraway, so he can show them to an extent But I agree that the manga goes too far, he's just very afraid or very surprised all the time
Stoic doesn´t mean emotionless, he is quite the opposite to an stoic person, he was a hikikomori for 4 years, while being in fantasy land, while being the murderer of his big sis while doing a heinous act to cover himself. But yes I agree, in game the point is that he is so traumatized by the accident and his actions that he can´t show emotion in his face 90% of the time, while not speaking if he isn´t asked or is 100% neccesary, he is (like Basil) a time bomb made of anxiety, fear and trauma.
@@Harukaluin19 Yeah, the guy who had a neutral emotion throughout every part of the game, is not stoic. The guy who literally did not care about being told that Mari died... is not stoic. The guy who has weakened emotional levels that cap at level 1... is not stoic.
One thing I hope the manga does is expand on a lot of moments not shown in the game but had a noticeable impact on the characters like Hero's outburst on Kel, Sunny smearing the photos, Sunny and Mari's whole argument, Aubrey's coping, Sunny's dad leaving It could make the manga more worthwhile to read and the storytelling format of manga as a whole means that it could easily show these moments and they'd rarely feel out of place and remove immersion from the reader
Aubrey was troubled in the game due to abandonment and grief. She wasn't a senseless psychopath as depicted here however, if she ever actually seriously harmed someone it was always by accident due to a fit of anger. The OG story was pretty good not because of the old 'Happy and childlike to horrific and eerie' trope but more so because of it's twist being able to convey how Sunny found refuge and fulfillment with his real friends latter to Mari's death, and how his character arc centered around leaving his coping mechanism behind him. What it conveyed was that whether his friends forgave him or not was not the relevant matter, but what mattered was accepting what he did happened and there's no going back, and that he could still make peace with himself regardless. His motionless, stagnant face was actually very important to his personality set. It was emphasized in lost library that he already had a tendency towards maladaptive daydreaming and later with the events surrounding Mari turning it from a normal quirk to a harmful coping mechanism - showing that when pitted with guilt and grief our traits become more exaggerated. Kel's lighthearted dense behavior being exaggerated, Aubrey's troubled anger issues being exaggerated, Hero's love for Mari became an inability to let go, etc. By making him more emotionally expressive in the manga you have essentially butchered the entire plot and his character is all over the place. Do they want him to be emotional and distressed? Do they want him to be monotone expressional? Do they want him to be a psychopath? I don't even know there for how am I supposed to grow attached or empathetic to these characters? That is my conclusion when it comes to the Omori manga. Why am I supposed to care, when the original arcs that made me root for these characters have been slaughtered? Sure the art is good, but good manga art is meaningless when the story is worthless. I'd rather a manga with a great story and poorly drawn new grounds art rather than vice versa. The manga is inferior to the game in just about every meaningful way. If you want to enjoy Omori, play the game. Edit: You can add to the original plot to expand it and give new perspectives, but first you need to respect the source material. That is rule of adaptations, including marvel comics. Like how Sam Raimi thought of the organic web-shooters but the plot was still respected.
Imo They made Aubrey incredibly horrible. She says a lot of hurtful things with such a straight face that I doubt she should have any excuses to say she didn't mean it later in the manga. And seeing her hit Basil seems too far because she only seemed to call him names in the game. And the fact thats how we see her the first time in the manga just takes away the shocking feeling of seeing a old friend become mean after not knowing what happened. She's just a jerk who we're introduced to extremely fast.
My headcannon is that Manga Aubrey spent the last 4 years planning that speech just in case she ever saw Sunny again. It doesn't really fix her character, but it's funny to believe that she pictured a vine boom sound effect after every sentence
My only problem with manga is that I'm not used to seeing Sunny showing emotions (not before he overcomes everything), it's like looking at a different person
EXACTLY I imagined him being more unexepressive in general, more blank, but in the game we get so see everything from his point of view so this can also be a good detail added to his character. But I understand what you are saying, I feel the same way 🥲
this was my problem too. i have a lot of general issues with the way people talk about sunny and his expressiveness (mainly just people not understanding that not being expressive and being out right emotionless are two completely different things) and the way he behaves in the manga just trudges that back up. i know this is very much a me thing but idk, its just really hard to find characters like sunny that are portrayed in a positive light. im a lot like him (as in extremely quiet and a bit flat) and it meant a lot to me that those around him never acted like he was weird or tried to change him. and because of that, it bothers me a lot that what makes him HIM is taken away. its just so boring to have him act just like everyone else :/
i mean i wouldnt expect to understand jackshit on the very first episode, although the manga would be better if they introduce the rw characters more (basil, aubrey) since they only appeared for a bit (maybe get the church scene on chapter 1 idk)
I'd like to express my opinion on the character exaggeration, actually. I think it's kind of ok that Kel drags Sunny around instead of Sunny going to the store himself, since he probably wouldn't really want to anyway...but the AUBREY characterization? Hurts a bit. I assumed Aubrey never attacked with the bat in game because she didn't want to hurt her former friends, but put up an aggressive facade instead. Here she's just really evil???? Using the bat to beat people up also undercuts Sunny's use of a knife...it doesn't sit right with me.
"evil" is an understatement, tbh. they turned her into a complete edgy anime antagonist all i hope here is that the character exaggerations and choppy pacing were intended because the manga takes place after a failed sunny route (sunny didn't answer the door for kel on the second day) and this is all headspace
It’s implied in certain battles that she does use the bat a few times, it’s just that it’s weirdly not her strongest attack, which is her headbutt. Is the game implying that Aubrey’s head hurts people more than a bat covered in nails? I guess that’s the game’s weird way of implying that she’s kinda holding back when using that bat and is mostly there for intimidation.
@@kaylemathewcomendador6964 She could be only poking them with it. It'd be silly to have her be so aghast with Sunny stabbing her if she's bashing people's heads in.
@@Why_who_where He also flew backward, like ouch. Plus I doubt she would even hit him in the first place in game, given that most of the "Basil bullying" scenes were just misunderstandings because he was somewhere the hooligans didn't expect, not any sort of real fight.
Honestly, I wish we saw more of their childhoods at the beginning. Because if you think about it, we only saw them from the photographs initially. And headspace is just a convoluted extension of those. I understand that the author's intent was to focus on real faraway stuff more, but showing bits of parallels between the two timeframes with a little bit of panelling work would drive home the manga for me. I'm giving my two cents keeping their intent in mind while also creating some sort of emotional buildup. These opinions can change if the later chapters prove me otherwise
It's too early to decide my feelings but I do feel that it's had a bit of a weak start. I also have mixed feelings about the artstyle. All the characters look wirey and thin and Sunny's malnourishment or Kel being athletic isn’t communicated at all. The manga will need to make radical changes to make it work in a manga format so I am open to changes but don't like the execution so far. Since it needs a hook, I think it should have started with the Basil and Sunny flashbacks we get whenever we go back to Whitespace. Have the reader get hooked on figuring out what's happening there rather than what the manga did which I feel is more confusing than anything else.
Imo the game's prologue could have been adapted really well to be chapter 1 Start with Basil's flashback to get the reader's attention, cut out the hide and seek section and combat tutorial for better pacing, then lastly have the ending hook the reader when Sunny suddenly wakes up and the info from mom's phone message throws the narrative a curveball You get the hook while also not spoiling the story
The worst thing about the manga for me is that the characters (from the real world)looks so young !Its works with headspace because theyre ARE young and it kinda works with Basil and Sunny…But Aubrey and Kel ?They look so young,Aubrey looks like a toddler and Kel doesn’t have any muscle (he’s supposed to play basketball a lot)and he has tiny shoulders
Many anime/manga with cutesy artstyles end up with their characters looking younger then they are supposed to be. So I guess they favored being cute rather than age correct
@@viniciusgoulart5077 Many mangas I like have the «cutesy artstyle»and it make the characters look younger by the face but here the whole body is a lot younger and looks more frail which makes it weird and doesn’t make sense in my opinion
If there's one thing that's going to keep me checking out each new chapter (and also momentarily not opening twitter for a few days) is Sunny and Omori's(?) expressions. Here, 4:38 for example. When Kel tells Sunny he's glad to see that he hasn't changed that much, Sunny just gives him this look of disapproval in that sentence. "Now that's just an unnecessary deep cut. True, but still." And right below it where Kel proposes the idea that they can all have a sleepover at Sunny's place, Sunny gives his attention to the floor and gives a somber, yet nervous expression. Like he's reflecting on better times that he wishes he could go back to but is worried about...something. Not the entity Something, just something in general The artist did a good job on giving the silent Sunny a voice not through his thoughts, but his expressions and I am all for it
I like the Manga for what it is. I'm happy that OMORI actually is getting more content. It's good that we get to see more of how Sunny felt during the game, even if it's all jumbled up with the order.
I agree with most of your points! I ended up making my own video about how it felt somewhat disappointing earlier. The restructuring alters characterization and gives us so much information in the first chapter which probably makes this really confusing to new readers.
Obviously we cant say anything for sure yet, but there is a type of writing style where you use a 'hook' to capture the reader by starting in the middle of the action and then explaining things later, so because this manga will mostly have Omori players reading it, they might be pacing it differently on purpose to retell the story and capture peoples attention So they might be keeping the same story and just used that scene as a hook
I guess the manga author had zero faith in the game opening adapting well into a good hook for manga readers, so they resorted to spoiling things to do so.
@kaylemathewcomendador6964 it might just be to refresh the story for people who already know what happens so it's not just an exact retelling of the game
one of the official twitter accounts stated that the manga was meant to appeal to both new and old fans. i'm thinking it might be an alternative version of the story tbh
Worst part about it is that if it wasn't for the online reposts like 70% of the fanbase wouldn't even have access to it (it's only on US-exclusive and Japan-exclusive websites)
aubrey is a shitton more aggressive and pissed in the manga. from what i rember, aubrey pretty much only verbally bullied basil (other than the push into lake)
considering it's still only the first chapter, i'd still give it a chance. though, being the first chapter, it DOES go way faster than it should. despite that, i think the way this manga can be executed may be very interesting, even if it does end up straying from how the original game went. like, maybe it'll be good as a standalone thing rather than something to be compared to the game. though, i'm mostly just glad there's another way to experience the story of omori. i'm not one to play through games like omori, one shot or other story focused games with barebones gameplay (thus i watched other people play it so i could experience the story), so i just appreciate the fact that the manga even exists.
It's possible they rearranged it to get the "hook" earlier in the story, since people might not read more than the first chapter otherwise. Also possible that they don't have that many chapters to span the story across. Definitely less confusing than the Yume Nikki manga so far though.
Just binge watched an omori walkthrough after years and the Berserk anime for the first time (never heard of it ) all within a week. Let’s just say i am not sleeping well for a good while.
i hope that the faster pacing will mean showing more of what happens after the true ending or maybe whichever ending it decides to show if not true ending.
Loving the manga and Sunnys expressions! like the changes actually! It feels like its more for people who played the game. Also I'm for the fast pacing tbh. Also yeah a video for each chapter would be great!
Personally, the problem I have with the manga is just how little we know about the characters in the beginning. We just get introduced to them in rapid succession and we don’t really get to see what they are like before all the action and other stuff happens. To me, I think if we get more chapters and better pacing we could probably slide past the rough beginning. We just gotta keep that hope and have faith in the manga! ^^
i totally didnt consider (when i played the game) that during in the aubrey-bat-knife scene, basil and sunny were seeing each other for the first time in years 💀the look between them must've been intense
i do think people are being really harsh way too early when it's only been one chapter, though i did personally feel like the pacing was way too fast. like you said, them going immediately into the sunny + aubrey fight scene was weird because people who haven't played the game have no reason to care about these characters yet one of the official twitter accounts did say the manga was meant to be for new and old fans alike, but imo old fans are getting mad at how it isn't a 1:1 adaptation, while it seems like they expected new fans to get immediately attached to the characters without really giving them any reason to be since there was no build-up personally i'm hoping they're doing an alt version of the story and that the pacing/plot/characterisation differences will make sense later due to that
As someone who adores the games story and how moments are put in the perfect spot for your reaction, I heavily dislike that they showed us Faraway town first. Mari being dead, Aubrey's entire personality change, and everything with Basil is such a huge whiplash on the player. They're great reveals. I feel this manga is intended for those who have already experienced Omori. We know what happens, so they can show those events to us in a different way. It's interesting, but not as powerful in my opinion. What I did like from this change is when he slashes Aubrey and gets pulled into white space immediately to disassociate from what he's just done. I also really enjoyed the horror. I think the very beginning with the violin was a great opener without revealing too much, and then the Faraway stuff happened instantly and I went "Um... okay." I enjoy changes and I'm still gonna love this manga. I just feel that this choice kind of removed elements of what made Omori so hard hitting to begin with. It's too early to say, though. It's only chapter 1, and I'm excited for more.
honestly I dont mind the switch in fact I think it can open up some interesting ways to tell the story. I am looking forward to the new chapters, i defintly think this well turn up as a nice adaptation
A major reason for the fast pacing in my opinion is that Sunny is a silent protagonist, for me the pacing felt normal when other characters were around since there was stuff to read.
I’m slightly worried but also interested. Most people who read the manga have already played the game and the original story doesn’t have much replay value imo, so a 1-1 recreation wouldn’t work. I’m slightly offset by the headspace stuff coming at the end not the beginning, it means the Aubrey and Mari reveals don’t hit as hard if you consider the manga on its own. We barely know what Mari was like, don’t particularly care about her so the reveal is shocking but not impactful. Same for Aubrey, in the original game there’s a huge contrast, but as we meet real Aubrey before headspace Aubrey there’s nothing to compare. I’m hoping this is a reimagining/adaptation more than a direct retelling, which this change in the order of events hopefully supports (or just bad writing but hopefully not). Also I’m loving the art style mostly, just hope real world characters look a bit older in future issues (especially Kel)
i think we should look at this as an alternate way of getting into roughly the same story the first chapter of the manga obviously is just laying the groundwork and giving people reading for the first time a reason to keep reading past this chapter with lots of questions and little answers
It’s like a speedrun version of omori and everything’s moving so fast. I feel like by this point I barely know sunny and he’s already slashing Aubrey, Kel and Sunny don’t have that weird awkwardness at first and just jumped right to buddies, I don’t know, it just feels like it’s moving way to fast. Headspace doesn’t have that happy zainy feel and a bunch of other things
I feel like they might do something similar to the Scott Pilgrim anime where they zoom through half of the story in the first episode to reveal at the end that the show is gonna be much different from both the movie and the original novels. So I have hopes that they'll do something different that adds to the story of the game.
ok it could definitely be better but most of this is paced like how it is because its just an intro chapter trying to hook in new readers and chapter 2 or 3 will probably be more slow as for the changes omocat tweeted at one point she wanted the manga to be enjoyable to people who didnt play the game as well as older fans so she might be changing a lot about the story so its not just a recap for people who already played the game sunny is more emotional here where in the game he seemed to be a brick in the faraway town segments which was because he was suppressing everything, so maybe hes dealing with her death in a different way this time? aubrey is actively aggressive towards basil in the manga where as in the game its mostly just the other kids in the holigans and in town following along with what she started, so maybe it was more than just the photo album this time? what most interested me is that during the stab scene you can see omoris reflection in the knife blade and the background looks similar to white space implying omori is directly taking control of sunny as some kind of panic response where as in the game he stabs her because he was delusional from being in headspace for so long where stabbing enemies was no big deal
That is true When the door was knoking in the manga I thought it was gonna be the fake-out Mari jumpscare from the game, but no, it was immidiatly Kel and he shows up hours later in the game.
I believe I remember hearing that the manga is going to be accessible for new audiences while still retaining to diehard fans such as myself. I didn’t notice much at first, but now I have noticed the strange pacing and plot sequence. However, I believe that it’ll build to something different. Something new. I think it’s being laid out this way for a reason. I think it will probably follow OMORI’s general plot points while rearranging or even changing some to fit its own story it’s creating. And in that sense, it’s very exciting to see it laid out this way.
I would treat the manga like it's own separate canon, I'm more interested in seeing what they can add to it than have it perfectly adapted from the game as long as it's not dog water. Honestly, I don't mind expressive sunny. He wasn't entirely emotionless in the game, other characters could sense when he's angry or otherwise. Besides being depressed deeply traumatized doesn't mean blank, sunny has strong opinions about things and we see it through white space adventures , he has a colorfull personality underneath it all. Infact you don't tell that easily when someone's dealing with something so I wouldn't mind such an approach at all even if it's different. his giant flaw would not be absolute neutrality ,it's his perception of reality, he should NOT see it for what it is and his fictions would slip into it more often than not. What I'm worried about is over villainization of aubery. She's a victim too so don't paint her as an edgy antagonist. And god, justice for Kel's muscles
I think the manga is probably hoping to gain new fans who will only read the manga. With that in mind this first chapter makes for a great hook. If the manga started the same as the game it would be a pretty boring first chapter. It would just be a little white space, meeting the cast, hide and seek, and then probably end with the Boss fight. MAYBE if they sped it up they could've ended with Basil finding Mari's picture and freaking out but that would probably make it feel too rushed. From the perspective of someone who's played the game that sounds like a great first chapter, but someone who hasn't played the game will think it's boring. Like it's just a bunch of kids playing tag and fighting some weird creature what is the point? Plus the manga is monthly. People probably won't care to wait for more. On the other hand the chapter we got is much more exciting as a hook. New readers have a lot of questions and want to learn more. SO tldr; this chapter seems all over the place to us game players, but assuming it's geared towards new fans who haven't played the game it's a good hook. If I'm right with that assumption it's kind of a shame they're doing it that way but oh well. I hope they add new content and stuff to go along with that so us game players can be happy too. Also hope they don't skip too much headspace🙏
@@Why_who_where I mean a lot of ppl didn’t enjoy it apparently. I personally find it hard to have an opinion one chapter in though. We’ll just have to wait and see for more to come out.
Personally i have an opposite opinion, im just grateful and thankful it even HAS a manga, and I think its incredibly neat that the art style is different, and i find it more entertaining and intresting that sunny is more lively
Chapter 1 feels like the start of a fanfiction, not a proper adaptation. Granted, it is almost certainly made for those who have played the game first, but it just makes it an odd read. It does give me hope for what's to come though, since assuming the reader has familiarity should hopefully lead to a much more in depth examination of the characters than if it had to reestablish them completely.
the thing about adaptations is that they should always serve as alternative ways to experience a story. i mean, Lord of the Rings (both the movie adaptation and the books) are both perfectly valid ways to experience the universe, as a good example. however, there's like a gazillion things in the manga that don't make sense for someone who hasn't beaten the game. and likewise, there's a bazillion things that don't make sense for people who HAVE beaten the game. it's a lil weird, still not entirely sure what to think...
@sansgaming607 I never said it was good design. I 100% agree that official adaptations of any media should work to be the first version for someone to see.
they said they also made the mange to be good for new readers and tbh its probably better they used that artstyle to hook manga people who never saw the game (ik hs basil and mari looks so far from their game versions but it probably be good for manga-only people)
Tbh I didn't hate it, and speeding up the pacing is kind of needed at least a little bit bc of how much filler stuff exists in the game for the purpose of gameplay. Like depending on how fast you play the game it can take almost an hour just to get to the steak cooking part, let alone see the other characters. But I still wish we got to see SOME headspace first. I was expecting something like a little white space --> headspace like normal --> probably skip the fight with boss and the sprout moles bc thats mostly a tutorial for fighting in game --> basils garden since it introduces the characters well --> photo jumpscare --> reveal to new readers that this is all a dream by showing sunny getting up and eating the steak-- for the first chapter. Its not perfect at all and i doubt it would even fit into a chapter but it give readers a hook (kinda) through the jumpscare and also still showing sunny is the main character (not as interesting as a fight though to be fair). But theres nothing wroang with what we got in my opinion lol. The horror parts were really cool and hopefully the whole pacing thing will redeem itself by changing the story organization to fit. I don't mind the art too much (they did seem rlly young in some panels, and I feel like omocats style fit the story better, but still) also justice for hooligans they had no right to just erase them from that scene :(
it sounds a pretty good mango by your description, it doesn't have to have the same pacing as the game because it is not the game, storytelling in games and other media has to have its own quirks, also it would be boring for ppl who already played read the manga as the same exact order of things
Maybe, but then again if the artist/writer fails to deliver the story and characters well in the first chapter, it is usually an indicator of issues that will be persistent over the whole telling of the story. Sometimes good stories start out weak, so yeah there's still a chance for this manga to improve in its storytelling. But personally, this first chapter has me a little worried about how the rest of the manga is going to go...
@@Freaky_KJH I'm pretty sure it was just to catch attention or something but I hope the pacing goes slower and focuses more on headspace on the next chapter, I don't know what they'd do to sunny while he's blacked out though
tbh its a shame they didnt use different artstyles in different worlds i know that manga is mostly colorless but pastel kawaii colors would contradict reality better i think this manga would be better with color also using realistic backgrounds would be awesome maybe even give them photo-like vibes using battle backgrounds would also be a great nod to original game i dont want for this to be a standard manga i want them to go crazy with style cus thats what original game was like i know that its aimed towards people who havent heard of omori before but thats no excuse to abandon games distinctive style using normal manga style people already seen 100000 times plus seeing colorless headspace is so fucking weird like even new people would think that headspace could use some colors you dont jsut make a dream world and make it lack colors even white space doesnt look unique now its just an empty space now(which is kinda funny considering that white spaces name is a term for empty space around drawing) i wonder if theyll make black space right that hellmari at the start of manga looked kinda junji ito though a bit more abstract rather than junjis favourite body horror
If they couldn't use color, maybe Faraway could've had a more "realistic" artstyle while HS would be more stylised. I still like what they went with though
@@viniciusgoulart5077 frrrr tbh its kinda weird that people think artstyle looks like hentai i mean if you see hentai artstyle here then i think somethings wrong with you here
After a bit of thinking on the manga, i think the pacing would be more ok and fixed if they reversed the order of dream and real world parts. showing omori first or : Nightmare with mari -> Omori telling sunny -> omori and adventures -> then real world. and end up the chapter with sunny collapsing would have been better paced. specially if the first chapter is a pilot chapter, just in case. That also would shock the readers and give a more accurate feeling to the the initial impresison of omori, since the dream part comes first. But idk. Chapter 2 could reveal a different path, or backtrack to the very start, idk. [SPOILER SECTION HERE] [SPOILER SECTION HERE] Because idk, would the dream portions of omori be focused for manga adaptation, or the story only? Because the story is omori being sunny's dissasociated persona to try to deal with the trauma, the adaptation's focus would be telling sunny's story, not the dream world and the adventures. Would it be interesting if dream world plots were told? idk. I think the manga suffers from the expectation that people would only glance it by 2 pages only and move on, and see the cute drawings and misunderstand it. When it could have build up a bit the real world portion later and made more of a shock. idk. Sorry for bad grammar, im not in the mood to think other than expressing somewhat my thoughts rn.
Honestly, yall can say i have low expectations, in fact i agree, but the manga is just fine. The art is good, the behaviour of the characters is just fine. Sure, the manga doesn't fully follow plot points in the game, like sunny's reluctance to go outside for example, but stuff like that is only a problem if you haven't played the game. Like, i would much rather sunny just get to the goddamn point and go outside already instead of the first 12 chapters being just headspace. It was good enough to entertain me while reading it. And, unpopular opinion? Sunny's expressiveness? Honestly, i like it. It's good. It's good! I actually really like it, sue me!
I still cannot believe we got confirmation that Sunny did really knife Aubrey, after all these years of people thinking the knife did literally nothing to her even though it's a knife also the I guess Hooligans we're just off eating pizza or doing generic delinquent activities while the fight at the park happened
Okay I love the manga right now but your right a lot of stuff felt rush but maybe there doing something different like different versions where mari doesn't died that could interesting would the friend group still be together I am so excited to see more omori
I know this is probably a pipe dream but the only reason I was interested in the manga was to see if they even give us a slight elaboration on what happens after the good ending. Now technically we already do unofficially since there was that unused concept art and I think it’s probably best to be left ambiguous all things considered but dammit man a part of me still wants at least some elaboration
I think the manga is just an add on for ppl who have played through omori so the story telling has more gaps, imo I think the manga shouldn’t be hated so much based off the first chapter
I think they will see us in the story after the accident. What did the parents do to Sunny and cover up this accident and leave the father to the mother and Sunny because it is impossible for two children to do all this without anyone's knowledge for years
too much facial expression on sunny, he doesnt look depressed like he should edit: aubrey slamming a bat into basil's head is stupid she wouldnt do that
The pacing is deffinetly a bit of a surprise, but I adore how much more alive the characters feel. I don't think the pacing is too much of an issue, cause it seems they're just switching up the order of moments rather than cutting out content.
I knew this manga wasnt gonna work out the moment i saw it announced. Omori started out as a webcomic but then was made into a game because omocat felt that the webcomic format was too limited for what type of story she was trying to convey. Some criticism for the manga is that the characters are too expressive, especially sunny. In the game sunny has emotions, a lot of them but he mostly had a neutral look because after the 3 years of what happened to mari he became disillusioned and he mixes together the real world and head space, and in head space he is omori, someone who has a blank expression at all times. Him slashing aubrey should've been illustrated as him more so non-chalontly just trying to stab aubrey before he gets snapped into the fact that hes in the real world and that he just tried to kill his friend. Then he can show some expression, kind of as a fact that he gets snapped out from playing the character of omori and returning to who he actually is, sunny. The pacing is also not good as youve mentioned because in the game we had time to let these characters grow on us in head space then to find them in the real world and what has happened to them over the years actually has meaning because we already know what these characters are supposed to be like. I think turning omori into a manga was a bad idea from the get-go and it not turning out the same quality as the game is nothing surprising to me.
I like that they put Real World first. They understand the importance of building narrative momentum unlike the game that wastes its first 30 minutes on a dull hide and seek segment. I swear, nothing has done more damage to this franchise than that hide and seek part, how many people put down the controller because of it.
for me it felt like the manga was made for those fans who have already played Omori, thus no setting up and a weird pacing, to kind of skip all the content the game has already presented well enough and move onto the content the manga wants to expand upon kinda unsure where they're gonna go with this tho
I never understood why they couldnt make the Omori manga like the official Omori comics from 2021. If changes were to be made to the storyline to fit the format of a manga, Why couldnt Omocat give it to a writer / mangaka who Actually understood the source material?? People keep saying that "We should be grateful that we have an Omori manga!" But how can you be grateful for something that left you disappointed and longing for more? The Omori game has Questionable writing already and the official manga potentially made it worse cause it was written by the wrong author.
I think the way omocat wanted this to go is making us have this realization that sunny is better of DEAD. The way the faraway town was introduced is brutal and honestly if everyday outside was like that i wouldn't go out either, right? See? The dream world is just better, in everyway possible. No family introductions, just sunny waking up to kel and meet aubrey and fights and stuff and sad and depression idk. I think later on the plot would instead be choosing your ending it would be more like "is it even worth it to live?" "why do people live just to suffer?" and yea
i dont think this is going to go the same way the game did. sunny's more... alive. in game a character trait of his is that hes constantly dissassocitating, his sense of reality is messed up, and he just wants to go back to sleep. to the point that he dreamt of an entire adventure while out with his friends, and we dont know if he did that consciously
seeing him actually interact with his environment without being asked to, this is définitely going to be a plot point later
other things that changed: Aubrey hit basil and he didnt even cry, in game he was just crying from fear. this was used to prove basil is incredibly unstable on the daily
in the manga aubrey says "we couldnt save mari", adding onto the 2 hints we got in the game that mari did give off bad vibes
sunny CONSCIOUSLY tries stabbing aubrey, with camera angles showing he aimed for the head. ingame it was just a slash that kel managed to forget
omori tells sunny "You have been living here for as long as you can remember". in game it was just a genuine thought from sunny forgetting, as is normal when dreaming
...someone had to tell me that the hooligans arent there.
You know the Manga is pretty separate from the game, right? Just, hope you know.
Omg I also didn't even realize the hooligans weren't there LMAOOO
@@Mango-zs7ky It's meant to take place within the same medium. You start off at the same 3 days, the same scenario (but slightly altered and wrong in a lot of ways.)

But it manages to mischaracterize aubrey so hard i literally left the manga
It sucks
I mostly got 2 issues with the manga.
One is that Sunny leaving his house didn't feel like a big revelation since its literally the first thing he does in this manga. It doesnt feel like he hasnt left the house in 4 years, especially with how casually he hangs out with Kel.
Second is that Sunny attacking Aubrey didn't make much sense with the context given. In the game, it's implied that he did it because he had a hard time distinguishing the real world and headspace because the fights were shown in a game format, so he saw fighting Aubrey as any other fight in headspace and didn’t think of the consequences of seriously injuring her.
aubrey was much more aggressive in the manga, she was literally about to hit sunny
genuinely dont know who is adapting the game into the manga because they arent hitting ANY of the emotional highs omori has with the same plot beats. the art is good for the most part (ignoring that the artist is an alleged shotacon) but the contents of it is just not it 😭😭😭
@@vronji Are you referring to Omocat as the artist? Because I know she was accused of being a shotacon but she cleared this up on her blog.
@@viniciusgoulart5077yea she likely bullied basil verbally for the most part never physically
I don't think she did, she just put the bat on his shoulder, that's it.
@@LilPale She hit him, Basil wouldn't have been knocked down if she didn't do it 😭
@ObiAlmighty That's fair yeah, but what she did was an accident and she pretty much did it out of anger.
Yeah, she wasn't even close to that bad in game. Considering she doesn't even use her nail bat in-game and it's just literally for show
I hated how she used the bat, like wasn't th bat only to make her look more threatening?
@ObiAlmighty but the game never portrayed it that bad which is the point so in a way it is worse though lmao
@ObiAlmighty but you admitted the manga made her more violent correct?
All of headcanons of Sunny being mostly expressionless has been shattered, thrown down a cliff and got ran over by a semi truck a couple of times. Damn that hurt. Though I feel like this is definitely not for "beginner omori fans" or something. I would MUCH prefer someone to play the game first than reading the manga.
Also I love how dry this guy's humor is. You really remind me of moist critical lol.
I thought it was canon that Sunny started repressing his emotions after Mari's dea+h. I was excited to see Sunny express more emotions in the manga, but I think he's a bit too expressive
Boss's humor is still great though lol
To be fair, if you really wanted to you could just say the Manga is an alternative continuity to the game, if you want HeadCanons to stay unaffected.
There was humor? ☠️😭
This is what I hope for the Omori manga. again I wont be mad if they just do the same story but I really hope for something more
real dude
me personally i would've been totally fine with an exact retelling but in the medium of a manga, i think that if you change a lot of things about omori it can VERY easily mess up a TON of the narrative so it's risky to change a lot
so far though... they've kinda ruined a couple things. not too optimistic for what comes next
Stuff like more aventures in HS with the ocasional blackspace leakage, the RW friends hanging out from before Mari d¡ed, the way each RW friend dealt with Mari's de@th, etc
In any case I'm still curious on how the story will turn out
I honestly went into the manga expecting a decent amount of headspace stuff to get cut, but I do wish they at least showed the very first tutorial section with the photo album and Basil's plants and all that.

He shows emotions in game when Kel and Hero hug him by the treehouse and when he uses certain items in Faraway, so he can show them to an extent
But I agree that the manga goes too far, he's just very afraid or very surprised all the time
its cooler that the manga is different imo, and having a stoic sunny in this medium would be pretty boring
Bruh , sunny is NOT stoic .
@@Harukaluin19 Yeah, the guy who had a neutral emotion throughout every part of the game, is not stoic.
The guy who literally did not care about being told that Mari died... is not stoic.
The guy who has weakened emotional levels that cap at level 1... is not stoic.
One thing I hope the manga does is expand on a lot of moments not shown in the game but had a noticeable impact on the characters like Hero's outburst on Kel, Sunny smearing the photos, Sunny and Mari's whole argument, Aubrey's coping, Sunny's dad leaving
It could make the manga more worthwhile to read and the storytelling format of manga as a whole means that it could easily show these moments and they'd rarely feel out of place and remove immersion from the reader
But I understand what you are saying, I feel the same way 🥲
this was my problem too. i have a lot of general issues with the way people talk about sunny and his expressiveness (mainly just people not understanding that not being expressive and being out right emotionless are two completely different things) and the way he behaves in the manga just trudges that back up.
i know this is very much a me thing but idk, its just really hard to find characters like sunny that are portrayed in a positive light. im a lot like him (as in extremely quiet and a bit flat) and it meant a lot to me that those around him never acted like he was weird or tried to change him. and because of that, it bothers me a lot that what makes him HIM is taken away.
its just so boring to have him act just like everyone else :/
just read it havent watched this yet and imma be honest I wouldnt understand shit if I didnt play the actual game
they go so fast like this first chapter should have had the first like hour of the game but instead it has like the first 6 all into 60 pages
i mean i wouldnt expect to understand jackshit on the very first episode, although the manga would be better if they introduce the rw characters more (basil, aubrey) since they only appeared for a bit (maybe get the church scene on chapter 1 idk)
The Your Turn To Die manga adaptation also had a similar problem, where the ending of chapter one was put at the very start of the book.
"evil" is an understatement, tbh. they turned her into a complete edgy anime antagonist
all i hope here is that the character exaggerations and choppy pacing were intended because the manga takes place after a failed sunny route (sunny didn't answer the door for kel on the second day) and this is all headspace
Her posture indicates she tripped Basil over if you see her leg, I'm pretty sure she didn't hit him THAT hard

Imo the game's prologue could have been adapted really well to be chapter 1
Start with Basil's flashback to get the reader's attention, cut out the hide and seek section and combat tutorial for better pacing, then lastly have the ending hook the reader when Sunny suddenly wakes up and the info from mom's phone message throws the narrative a curveball
You get the hook while also not spoiling the story

If there's one thing that's going to keep me checking out each new chapter (and also momentarily not opening twitter for a few days) is Sunny and Omori's(?) expressions. Here, 4:38 for example. When Kel tells Sunny he's glad to see that he hasn't changed that much, Sunny just gives him this look of disapproval in that sentence. "Now that's just an unnecessary deep cut. True, but still."
And right below it where Kel proposes the idea that they can all have a sleepover at Sunny's place, Sunny gives his attention to the floor and gives a somber, yet nervous expression. Like he's reflecting on better times that he wishes he could go back to but is worried about...something. Not the entity Something, just something in general
The artist did a good job on giving the silent Sunny a voice not through his thoughts, but his expressions and I am all for it
Yeah Sunny easily should've just went for Aubrey's head. Best get it over with then wait for her to get a redemption arc.
more like thats how he is used to "stab" in the dream world
bro's gonna have a 2nd Something if that happens. lol
@j7yng_3 *something else*
"You... You should have gone for the head."
I think it was a very missed opportunity to have the dreamworld segments atleats be in monotone blurple
Obviously we cant say anything for sure yet, but there is a type of writing style where you use a 'hook' to capture the reader by starting in the middle of the action and then explaining things later, so because this manga will mostly have Omori players reading it, they might be pacing it differently on purpose to retell the story and capture peoples attention
So they might be keeping the same story and just used that scene as a hook
I guess the manga author had zero faith in the game opening adapting well into a good hook for manga readers, so they resorted to spoiling things to do so.
@kaylemathewcomendador6964 it might just be to refresh the story for people who already know what happens so it's not just an exact retelling of the game
@@wolffreak3336 but waste one of the major twists that catch you even if you knew the premise? thats just bad
one of the official twitter accounts stated that the manga was meant to appeal to both new and old fans. i'm thinking it might be an alternative version of the story tbh
Worst part about it is that if it wasn't for the online reposts like 70% of the fanbase wouldn't even have access to it (it's only on US-exclusive and Japan-exclusive websites)
All that effort for a single chapter that was lowkey shitty tbh
The pacing was fine for me, I really like the art and cant wait to see more
wayne pfp spotted in the wild
yoooo
aubrey is a shitton more aggressive and pissed in the manga. from what i rember, aubrey pretty much only verbally bullied basil (other than the push into lake)
considering it's still only the first chapter, i'd still give it a chance. though, being the first chapter, it DOES go way faster than it should. despite that, i think the way this manga can be executed may be very interesting, even if it does end up straying from how the original game went. like, maybe it'll be good as a standalone thing rather than something to be compared to the game. though, i'm mostly just glad there's another way to experience the story of omori. i'm not one to play through games like omori, one shot or other story focused games with barebones gameplay (thus i watched other people play it so i could experience the story), so i just appreciate the fact that the manga even exists.
It's possible they rearranged it to get the "hook" earlier in the story, since people might not read more than the first chapter otherwise. Also possible that they don't have that many chapters to span the story across. Definitely less confusing than the Yume Nikki manga so far though.
Really they could probably do it in like 8-10 chapters and still keep the pacing good if they just dedicated 1-2 chapters to each game chapter

3:54 tho I see what people mean
I guess the chapter reordering is sorta if you rather watch Star Wars chronologically or the historically
Ladies and gentleman, I'm proud to announce that chapter 2 is now out and it absolutely rocks
i do think people are being really harsh way too early when it's only been one chapter, though i did personally feel like the pacing was way too fast. like you said, them going immediately into the sunny + aubrey fight scene was weird because people who haven't played the game have no reason to care about these characters yet
one of the official twitter accounts did say the manga was meant to be for new and old fans alike, but imo old fans are getting mad at how it isn't a 1:1 adaptation, while it seems like they expected new fans to get immediately attached to the characters without really giving them any reason to be since there was no build-up
personally i'm hoping they're doing an alt version of the story and that the pacing/plot/characterisation differences will make sense later due to that
As someone who adores the games story and how moments are put in the perfect spot for your reaction, I heavily dislike that they showed us Faraway town first.
I’m really happy there’s a manga but it feels rushed..
A major reason for the fast pacing in my opinion is that Sunny is a silent protagonist, for me the pacing felt normal when other characters were around since there was stuff to read.
is that tcoaal music hollllldddd onnnnnnnn HOLLLDD UP AM I TRIPPING IS THERE TCOAAL MUSIC GENUINE QUESTION
Lore of OMORI Manga is a Hot Mess momentum 100
i think we should look at this as an alternate way of getting into roughly the same story
the first chapter of the manga obviously is just laying the groundwork and giving people reading for the first time a reason to keep reading past this chapter with lots of questions and little answers
So I have hopes that they'll do something different that adds to the story of the game.
ok it could definitely be better but most of this is paced like how it is because its just an intro chapter trying to hook in new readers and chapter 2 or 3 will probably be more slow
as for the changes omocat tweeted at one point she wanted the manga to be enjoyable to people who didnt play the game as well as older fans so she might be changing a lot about the story so its not just a recap for people who already played the game
sunny is more emotional here where in the game he seemed to be a brick in the faraway town segments which was because he was suppressing everything, so maybe hes dealing with her death in a different way this time?
aubrey is actively aggressive towards basil in the manga where as in the game its mostly just the other kids in the holigans and in town following along with what she started, so maybe it was more than just the photo album this time?
what most interested me is that during the stab scene you can see omoris reflection in the knife blade and the background looks similar to white space implying omori is directly taking control of sunny as some kind of panic response
where as in the game he stabs her because he was delusional from being in headspace for so long where stabbing enemies was no big deal
It was WAY to fast paced. I didn't have time to process what was happening.
That is true
When the door was knoking in the manga I thought it was gonna be the fake-out Mari jumpscare from the game, but no, it was immidiatly Kel and he shows up hours later in the game.
FOR REAL THE TITLE IS RIGHT
I would treat the manga like it's own separate canon, I'm more interested in seeing what they can add to it than have it perfectly adapted from the game as long as it's not dog water.
But we still enjoyed it either way right? I think that's good enough
@@Why_who_where I mean a lot of ppl didn’t enjoy it apparently. I personally find it hard to have an opinion one chapter in though. We’ll just have to wait and see for more to come out.
They better give Medusa the attention she deserves
I 100% agree that official adaptations of any media should work to be the first version for someone to see.
they said they also made the mange to be good for new readers and tbh its probably better they used that artstyle to hook manga people who never saw the game (ik hs basil and mari looks so far from their game versions but it probably be good for manga-only people)
oh how I wish I could actually *read* it so I have my own opinion on it.
idc about the pacing I just wanna cry again🥺
I don't mind the art too much (they did seem rlly young in some panels, and I feel like omocats style fit the story better, but still)
also justice for hooligans they had no right to just erase them from that scene :(
ahh i didnt mean to make it crossed out i forgot youtube did that lol oops
I'M JUST SAYING why did they twinkify Sunny he runs around like he's a female anime character
bro it's an image 💀
it sounds a pretty good mango by your description, it doesn't have to have the same pacing as the game because it is not the game, storytelling in games and other media has to have its own quirks, also it would be boring for ppl who already played read the manga as the same exact order of things
As long as it have the secret ending I won't complain
Perhaps you should WAIT before you say that the omori manga is a 'hot mess'
Maybe, but then again if the artist/writer fails to deliver the story and characters well in the first chapter, it is usually an indicator of issues that will be persistent over the whole telling of the story. Sometimes good stories start out weak, so yeah there's still a chance for this manga to improve in its storytelling. But personally, this first chapter has me a little worried about how the rest of the manga is going to go...
It is tho? Especially the obvious pacing problem.
@@Freaky_KJH I'm pretty sure it was just to catch attention or something but I hope the pacing goes slower and focuses more on headspace on the next chapter, I don't know what they'd do to sunny while he's blacked out though
it's just bait so that people will watch the video. can't shame Boss Door, it's just his job to make sure his videos get views
the way it's going now isn't too good of an indicator though. as it stands, it's a pretty messy adaptation.
Oh my goodness gracious by the gods a REAL Omori comic so cool
tbh its a shame they didnt use different artstyles in different worlds i know that manga is mostly colorless but pastel kawaii colors would contradict reality better i think this manga would be better with color also using realistic backgrounds would be awesome maybe even give them photo-like vibes using battle backgrounds would also be a great nod to original game i dont want for this to be a standard manga i want them to go crazy with style cus thats what original game was like i know that its aimed towards people who havent heard of omori before but thats no excuse to abandon games distinctive style using normal manga style people already seen 100000 times plus seeing colorless headspace is so fucking weird like even new people would think that headspace could use some colors you dont jsut make a dream world and make it lack colors even white space doesnt look unique now its just an empty space now(which is kinda funny considering that white spaces name is a term for empty space around drawing) i wonder if theyll make black space right that hellmari at the start of manga looked kinda junji ito though a bit more abstract rather than junjis favourite body horror
If they couldn't use color, maybe Faraway could've had a more "realistic" artstyle while HS would be more stylised. I still like what they went with though
@@viniciusgoulart5077 frrrr tbh its kinda weird that people think artstyle looks like hentai i mean if you see hentai artstyle here then i think somethings wrong with you here
I like they removed scooter gang, I think Aubrey not having someone behind shows better that she was alone and had the hard time
After a bit of thinking on the manga, i think the pacing would be more ok and fixed if they reversed the order of dream and real world parts.
showing omori first or : Nightmare with mari -> Omori telling sunny -> omori and adventures -> then real world. and end up the chapter with sunny collapsing would have been better paced.
specially if the first chapter is a pilot chapter, just in case.
That also would shock the readers and give a more accurate feeling to the the initial impresison of omori, since the dream part comes first. But idk. Chapter 2 could reveal a different path, or
backtrack to the very start, idk.
[SPOILER SECTION HERE]
[SPOILER SECTION HERE] Because idk, would the dream portions of omori be focused for manga adaptation, or the story only? Because the story is omori being sunny's dissasociated persona to try to deal with the trauma, the adaptation's focus would be telling sunny's story, not the dream world and the adventures.
Would it be interesting if dream world plots were told? idk.
I think the manga suffers from the expectation that people would only glance it by 2 pages only and move on, and see the cute drawings and misunderstand it. When it could have build up a bit the real world portion later and made more of a shock. idk.
Sorry for bad grammar, im not in the mood to think other than expressing somewhat my thoughts rn.
yooo new boss door video awesome ‼️
For me, the manga was confusingly fast.. I couldn't keep up as everything kept happening at the same time.
I still cannot believe we got confirmation that Sunny did really knife Aubrey, after all these years of people thinking the knife did literally nothing to her even though it's a knife
also the I guess Hooligans we're just off eating pizza or doing generic delinquent activities while the fight at the park happened
i like it it as something t oread after finishing the game, but i really hope no one reads it before they play the game
Okay I love the manga right now but your right a lot of stuff felt rush but maybe there doing something different like different versions where mari doesn't died that could interesting would the friend group still be together I am so excited to see more omori
im just excited theres a manga 😭😭
I enjoyed it
idgaf about the artstyle and the artist but people should care more about the pacing and story because it did felt really confusing
I know this is probably a pipe dream but the only reason I was interested in the manga was to see if they even give us a slight elaboration on what happens after the good ending. Now technically we already do unofficially since there was that unused concept art and I think it’s probably best to be left ambiguous all things considered but dammit man a part of me still wants at least some elaboration
the panelling is actually really good its kinda insane
I think the manga is just an add on for ppl who have played through omori so the story telling has more gaps, imo I think the manga shouldn’t be hated so much based off the first chapter
It's surprising that nobody noticed Sunny using "Cursed Technique: Shrine" (Specifically the Technique: Dismantle) on Aubrey like Sukuna.
I think they will see us in the story after the accident. What did the parents do to Sunny and cover up this accident and leave the father to the mother and Sunny because it is impossible for two children to do all this without anyone's knowledge for years
too much facial expression on sunny, he doesnt look depressed like he should
edit: aubrey slamming a bat into basil's head is stupid she wouldnt do that
Being depressed doesn't mean you can't be emotional, though
The pacing is deffinetly a bit of a surprise, but I adore how much more alive the characters feel. I don't think the pacing is too much of an issue, cause it seems they're just switching up the order of moments rather than cutting out content.
Manga is fine. Kinda nice to experience the story in a new way.
Ya'll can say what you want but sunny is a fucking savage aiming for the head with the knife.
Thanks for being subbed for over a year :)
it’s nice to experience the story in a new way why call it a hot mess if it’s fine
I swear, nothing has done more damage to this franchise than that hide and seek part, how many people put down the controller because of it.
for me it felt like the manga was made for those fans who have already played Omori, thus no setting up and a weird pacing, to kind of skip all the content the game has already presented well enough and move onto the content the manga wants to expand upon
kinda unsure where they're gonna go with this tho
I wish I had the manga but I can’t find it (((
I’m surprised it HAS a manga
I love the artstyle of the Manga
What? I didnt even know this existed
Honestly for me, apart from the pacing it was really good
I think the way omocat wanted this to go is making us have this realization that sunny is better of DEAD.
The way the faraway town was introduced is brutal and honestly if everyday outside was like that i wouldn't go out either, right? See? The dream world is just better, in everyway possible. No family introductions, just sunny waking up to kel and meet aubrey and fights and stuff and sad and depression idk.
I think later on the plot would instead be choosing your ending it would be more like "is it even worth it to live?" "why do people live just to suffer?"
and yea
