Feel kinda stupid not going trough the lyrics of this masterpiece in retrospect.
Why? They are freaking awesome. Nothing's as good as an actual smart metal band.
Arthur Manhães Might seem like that, but this is not the only track that follows the same "gibberish" you assume it to be. Except for the loveydovey lyrics once in a while, all alternate tracks made got a better message behind them i found. If i remember right, Mattheafy at least left school with top grades for the sake OF the band. So if my memory isn't failing me, you might be the pseudo-intellect here then.

My point is however that in a world where 99% of the music is based around 3 notes and how you want to kiss your boyfriend/girlfriend when you see him/her, smart music should be welcome. And it is as if you assume that EVERYONE is smart?! That is far from the truth, so you should be glad that there's at least 1 band that is vaguely framed around something like that out there when the 100 net will be bland and monotone to high hell.
But hey, that commonly sells so naturally that will be popular right? Most people are not that smart so i am not surprised that most people don't care even when they are listening to it on purpose.

I loved playing ascendancy songs on guitar...to me shogun was good as was in waves, but ascendancy is unique, there is nothing like it by anyone else in terms of playability and feel
Plenty of that in other genres going as far back as the '60s.
This song is so underrated and I have no idea why. Definitely my favorite Trivium song.

2:18 - 3:45 is arguably my favourite part to any Trivium song. The solo is complex but melodic and the vocals... my god they're so good.
Dude I can feel that tbh. Can't believe I've glossed over that section for years.
This transition from the solo to the vocals is insane. Everytime I listen to it, I get shivers.
I can see the Emperor's influnce in many parts of this album.. Prove me wrong!

I've just never heard anyone create riffs like these, they really had their own sound with this album, sure it's a mixture of already existing bands but it creates an original mix
80's thrash mixed with modern metalcore
Shogun has a pure Trivium sound.
I can respect your opinion but dude. There are many more bands with a lot better arrangements and riffing than this, but maybe it’s just what you like more than any other band. For pure riffage and just metalness I look at bands like Revocation, Martyr, Sylosis, SikTh. Just to make a few. If you want super badass riffing look at Decapitated and Soreption. Just huge riffs. Early Trivium was fun how they blended their riffs with melody and pretty cool hooks. For me though everything after this album is not for me even though most of their fans like their stuff after this album.
Ascendancy's composition and phrasing is as good as it gets. The way they put a little of different metal genres together was genius on the album. Though, Decapitated - winds of creation should NOT be missed by any metal fan. Killer riffs there
@@mcshatly1576 Well, it definitely is just what I prefer, it's ALL about opinion, unless we're talking about difficulty of technique for a given riff, but I don't rate music that way anymore personally. Those bands you mentioned are super technical, weird time sigs etc. but being 100% honest, I feel bored listening to them, not to say they're boring, that's just my opinion which is irrelevant to yours :)

Still one of the best albums out there by far, this shit is what i learned when i first started playing guitar. windows media player slowed down to 0.5 and learned note for note. NO REGRETS

Completely different albums but are both just masterpieces.
Bring Beethoven back to life, give him a guitar, and let him lead Trivium alongside Heafy.

Probably. It's important to note that Anarchism is about the abolition of the state, which is not the same thing as getting rid of government altogether. Anarchists still believe that government is essential, just that it should take on a new form. I can see that in these lyrics.

The bridge vocals are some of the best on the album besides the choruses to The Deceived, Departure, Like Light To The Flies, and Blinding Tears Will Break The Skies imo.
