The year I turned 17 was literally the most difficult year of my life and I nearly didn't make it. I would tell my 17-year old self five things:
    1. You're stronger than you think, you come from a lineage of warriors
    2. This too shall pass - healing happens one step at a time
    3. They tried to bury you, they didn't know you were a seed
    4. There is power in forgiveness - it's called peace
    5. You are blessed to be here - don't waste another second accepting the title "victim"
And at 39, a few months from 40, these lessons still ring true. And because growth isn't linear, I still need these affirmations every now and then.
Venus, thank you for sharing and opening up - really loving seeing you so candid and vulnerable. Keep them coming, we stan a queen 👸 👏 ❤

My teenage years were so difficult but if I could go back I would tell my 17 year old self to celebrate wins like the Williams sisters. I never felt like my wins in life were worthy of celebrating. I started playing tennis again after nearly 30 years, in the past week, with watching you for tips, you can bet that I did the happy dance after every successful left handed serve and bouncing home after every practice. I also do my happy dance on the way home when others complement me on my determination and grace when stumbling. Thank-you for putting out these videos.

Well I like your slices too Venus. I always find your slice as really2 solid. I would tell my 17 years old to brace yourself for the world. I was too naive. I thought money is all out there to grab, and I am the best. But when I finished my degree and I started working. Oh boy, there are soooo many more talented, smarter people than I was. It humbles me down a lot. I used to want to be successful so much and prove to people that I was special that everytime there was failure ill get super crushed. I was unhappy. At one point I just wake up and realize. I dont want to be in a high stress environment and always ended up losing no matter how hard I tried. I opted for a less competitive career where I can perform better. I have far less work stress than I used to be, and I am so much more happy. My 20s was wasted doing stuff that I am not meant to be and I was depressed. My 30s was so much better. I like to advice young people out there to really find out what are you good at, dont be overconfident of yourself unless you really are brilliant. Be smart with how you plan your life.
PS : I agree with you. Martina Hingis is a formidable talent. That volley was just sickening.

Venus truly doesn’t age, such an inspiration of longevity and never giving up; learning some life lessons through tennis triumphs and tough losses on and off the court 🎾. A true infinity athlete and warrior for equality and blazing your own trail. Would love to see a video of the AO and/or Wimbledon 2017. Those performances still bring tears to my eyes, very much had just as much enthusiasm and love for the game as 17 year old Venus.

Venus, I know EXACTLY what you mean when you said “I never look back, I look forward”, even with those moments of sheer joy, they just kinda fade into the background as you almost immediately ground yourself and jump into the ambitious “what’s next” mindset. THANK YOU for making this video; it’s proof of just how gracious and modest you are. As conscious as you are of what you’ve EARNED and all the incredible talent and work you’ve put in, you are still so incredibly humble and in-tune with yourself to share such heartfelt details and unspoken emotions of your 17-year old self. You are a legend. Period. And still as radiant and youthful as ever!
(+ Fun Fact: I started watching tennis and became a fan literally BECAUSE OF YOU. Thanks to you, I got to know and love this incredible sport. No surprise from such an inspiring athlete of mind, body, and soul.)

I watched you Venus play Steffi at Wimbledon 99; was screaming so much at the great tennis I lost my voice 🤣. It was a great match between 2 wonderful
Players. All the best for the future Venus. ❤️
Plus I always loved your matches with Martina H - you both made tennis so exciting with your diverse styles.

I love this video commentary so much. I remember watching your run to the US Open 1997 final with my dad back in 1997-btw I'm a year older than Venus-and was totally riveted. Have been a lifelong fan ever since. When you saved match point in the semifinal against Spirlea with a running backhand down the line, that is the most amazing point in tennis I have ever seen, unfortunately it's not in this video. Exuberance, unseen athleticism, confidence, nerves, and bravery (from a young woman of color) is what I remember from this run. It was electrifying. You lost to Martina Hingis, but kudos to your compliments to her and recognising lessons to be learned in defeat. It's a journey and we all need to remember that. Hingis was also a great player, but her rein didn't last long. Williams Sisters tennis revolution was just beginning.

I remember each of those matches. I had recorded them and watched them almost daily for inspiration. I was a middle school teacher at the time. I even showed them to my students. We were so glad to see an African-American champion that was about to set the tennis world on fire. She was only 17!!! You could feel a new era being birthed. Thank you Venus for holding up the light of excellence and true grit (effort).
As for my 17 y.o. self...I'd tell him to go medical school.

I will tell my 17 year old self to make sure to watch Venus Williams play, it won’t be forever and you don’t want to accidentally miss this historical player. I say to my 36 year old self the same thing

Just back from Birmingham having watched your incredible performance to overcome Camilla this evening. I was concerned for you in the 1st set when you had your heavy fall, but you somehow overcame that with great fortitude, and talent, and it was fantastic to see you win in the end. Lots of luck for Wed.

Definitely got to have more reactions videos. That emotion reaching the final was too heartwarming. Venus those were some quick-fire handshakes but we all could tell was just excitement over trying to be rude.
