In the HVAC trade for 44 years performing every facet of work. From Install to service/repair of industrial, commercial and residential equipment. I have been bit 14x by black widows, twice from brown recluse and stung once by a black scorpion. NONE of them have been fun. The worst yet has been by far, being swarmed by hornets and yellowjacket wasps countless times. Fortunately i have retired and rarely do any "special" favors" for friends and family to put myself in that kind of harm. From the age of 20 to now (64), I'm GRATEFUL to still be alive and somewhat healthy. Stay safe out there Curtis. It's a brutal profession but OH SO REWARDING!
Two variables, fan blade position and blade pitch. along with motor it is possible the previous guy changed fan blade. if so it may not be correct pitch(more aggressive) and position not correct. First try lowering blade on shaft to reduce mass air flow moved, lower amps
i googled that york model and saw motor as 850 rpm, 1.2a

The company I used to work for sold York as a budget option. My trainer said, he wouldn't install one in his dog's house lol. Good times
Since it's been worked on before, you have to wonder if they replaced the fan blade with a different pitch. When in doubt I tried to get OEM or at least OEM specs. Not always possible on really old units.

I hadn’t used my toaster in so long, I found the biggest, black widow I’ve ever seen in my life..guess it liked it..very calm creature, wasn’t jumpy or aggressive. I herded it into a glass jar and helped it outside..

what I often do, is just put the model number into web search engine and find service/install manual, which usually has the specs of motor and capacitors, but not always.

I had my annual service done on my AC today from my AC company. The tech checked the Capacitor and said it was reading below the rating. He thought it might have been the original .He checked pressures before he put the new capacitor in and they were low . After he put the capacitor in the pressure went up . He said the compressor wasn't running to full capacity. I trust this company. He told that the capacitor was $200.00 and told me that they had gone up a good bit. I don't recall the brand . I don't keep up with the price of these components because I don't work on HVAC. Again I have to trust the company .
They lied to you. The cap should be be replaced if it's low but will not make refrigerant pressures rise or fall. A capacitor works like a water tower to release the right power at the right time to help the large motor get started and turn in the right direction. Only air flow, temperature and how much refrigerant is in the system will raise or lower pressure. The tech did not know how to explain capacitors and bullshitted you. Again it should be replaced if it's out of spec but not to raise or lower the refrigerant pressure.
@@V1c3roy actually it can change pressure somewhat, because a bad run capacitor causes the motor rpm to change and that change is always lower speed due to phase shift not being optimal. so less total compression is done and greater thermal output of the windings/rotor occurs.
as for what total difference it makes and being a scroll or piston type would make a difference also. 🤔
I’m willing to bet you are 💯 percent correct on the motor rpm The majority of the 1050’s are around 1-1.5 amps draw

I use a small piece of 3/4 pvc to hide the rotation wires. Help them from the sun
You could use a piece of inexpensive wire loom on those exposed wires before cable tying them to the fan grill. Protects the wires and gives a more finished look

8 point sockets work great on set screws because they actually have a square in the middle. Use mine all the time to speed things up.

Just a tip, before cutting the shaft, try turning the fan blade while holding the shaft with your adjustable wrench. Once ya get it to turn, it should come off easily(no need for a puller). Good post Curtis.

My Grandma had one of these York Stellar systems since 1989. It got replaced by a Carrier Comfort back in 2020. This was back when York was as good as Trane and Carrier. They have greatly declined in quality ever since Johnson Controls has acquired them. This is mainly true for the microchannel systems, but none of their systems are as good as Trane and Carrier nowadays. Man, I love those old Bristol compressors!!
That device is absolutely the same principle as the one’s we’d use to pull mouthpieces that got jammed into brass instruments like horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba etc…
On an old unit like that if the amp draw is incorrect by a relatively small amount, i usually bend the blades on the fan a small amount to bring the amp draw into range.

Hey bud, I enjoy your videos. I’m like you I’ve done this kind of work for quite some time. I think we’re probably about the same age. I wanted to ask your opinion on something though you see videos on here people, encouraging people to buy heating and air units online and I’ve got a feeling you probably Feel the same way I do about that. People call me sometimes and ask me what how much would you charge me to put this in if I buy it out of Florida or someplace. Immediately I just want to hang the phone up and say you need to get someone else because I will not stand behind something that you bought off the Internet and I didn’t make any money on it except to just install it for you. Although I have done it, but I’m just curious to hear your take on all of this. Because I don’t think that people understand about warranties and things like that and the people that are posting these videos they won’t tell you that part of it that’s what you gotta be careful about that’s what I tried to tell people. I’d love to see you do a video about it.

We’ll just walk in to some local place where they sell the same equipment and they’re going to warranty the parts for them. Hello HVAC GUY do you have any videos on a mini split system you have worked on? Yesterday I had to work on a Daikin mini split for deep clean and man those coil fins are sharp!! just to remove the blower wheel was ruff as hell.
Interesting. Didn't the motor show 1.8A on the label, close to what you were reading? If it needs xxx Watts of power to do its job, a variance in voltage might cause an altered amp draw too.
Edit: Have you considered a small magnetic parts dish for all the screws you pull out of systems? Magnetic wrist bands are also available.

What kind of table are you using?
When you are checking your refrigerant charge, what do you mostly pay attention to? Pressure’s, saturation temperatures, or superheat, subcool?
All of the above. Saturation temp and SH, and SC are really important
It depends on what type of metering devices are in use. Piston systems charge off of head pressure dependent of ambient air temp. TXV systems I rely on SH and SC. For me at least this has been what works best.
They are “Brown Recluse” and “Black Widow.” Spiders. Two (2j Different Species of Spiders. Brown Recluse are Everywhere and Black Widow Not so Common. 🤔👍
Brown Widow Spiders are very common in Georgia and very poisonous!

That's not really a bad draw for a quarter HP motor; just slightly higher then rated. Often, the ratings are wishful thinking, if you know what I mean. Like MPG ratings for a car or truck. Another fine CC production. Always look forward to seeing you in action. 😎

You need a three. And it’s a run cap. Start cap is something else
