Huge thanks to Insta360 for working together on this. I've been honoured to be part of their internal test team for the past few months. These guys are really passionate about what they make and really listen to feedback.
I love this camera and will use it in lots of my videos going forwards. Any questions about the camera let me know in the comments down below.
Some epic cycling shots there! Thanks for trying it out 😎
That wedge solution for the magnet has the potential to be a game changer for 'in race' footage. Nice work Joe!
The wedge magnetism isn't very strong. Then putting under t-shirt makes it even weaker. I wouldn't trust it riding a bike. It is going to fall off.
@@bboomermike2126 wedge should be on the opposite side of pendant, not between camera and pendant
@@MykhayloLapin Yes, I know and it is. I guess I did not not make myself clear
I need one of these in my bedroom, if you know what I mean. Because I sleep alone.
Buuum buh bum buuuh tisss-dut.
@@PeakTorque is that the PH drumbeat 🤣
@@TheXiamenCyclingFeed its from a very popular website that rhymes with corn tub
No removable SD and poor battery life was the downside to the go2. Hopefully the new batt is better but no SD slot. Fills up way too quickly
128gb version though. Such a compact body, if you wanted an SD slot there'd have to be a cover on it for waterproofing, etc, and it looks like every mm and every gram is precious. Swings and roundabouts I guess. The decision of which camera to take on a ride gets harder and harder...
@@ChinaCycling 128gb would be my pic for sure. Good video 👍
You mean tiny but expensive! And while I do think it's an amazing camera, I can't justify the price. If you're a UA-camr or you have other social media outlets on which you post and you need to create content outdoors, this is a great option. But for the average person? I'll pass.
For lots of people your cell phone is more than enough! Things like this are good if you need to get shots that a cell phone can't. (Like strapping it to the back of your saddle, etc.)
So with the wedge, it would seem great for being in the drops, but while you're on the brake hoods or otherwise more upright, you're filming the sky?
“This being UA-cam, all the unboxings are fake” love it haha
thanks for being confident enough to make me feel ok about my ugly face!!! #UglyPower
Where can you find that Wedge??
Sorry if I missed this, but have you found a good discreet solution to mount the action pod on the handlebars if needed? With the camera on its own having quite a short battery life it would be cool to be able to carry on filming from the pod where it can last longer if needed. Thinking a sort of duo mount on the underside of the bike computer mount type of thing. Is there anything like that?
Can I use this camera to quickly take a still photo? Switch between still photo video modes? How useful it is without the hub? For short bike rides I'd like to take only camera itself and leave the hub at home. PS: Great video, thanks for posting 👍
Yes you can! You can set it so a double click takes a photo, or vice versa
thanks for the reviews. I bought a set of Oladance earphones based on your recommendation and really like them.
Glad you like them! I get lots of offers for product reviews from companies... Oladance was one of those that I wasn't sure of when I asked them to send to me, but as soon as I hit play on the first song, I was blown away. I try to be honest in all my videos and I'm glad it's paying off for you!
Sorry but, I'm the only one that sees that the camera artifacts like crazy ? And I don't think it's youtube compression to blame. GoPro 11 is at similar if not lower price, with 5K recording and greater field of view, not to manetion no SD card.
The 2 piece form factor idea is pretty cool tho.
Yep Insta360 video quality is nowhere as good as GoPro and these “sponsored” creators never mention it. Wait about a week for the honest reviews
and replaceable battery...and it looks like the mini camera doesnt face the proper way using the garmin mount. im sure you can tighten it to make it stick pointing forward....until you hit some bumps...then a vid of ur front hub.
I've literally done side-by-side comparison reviews with the Hero 11 Black and Insta360 X3 before, so I don't think you can say we don't mention it. 😂
I own a GoPro 11. The bitrate between the two cameras is about a 2-3x difference, BUT, as I said in the video, I genuinely think most people don't notice when watching on a mobile phone screen. The GoPro hero series hasn't had any innovation for years... just a bump of resolution / framerates every model. If thats what you're looking for, that's great. But the Insta360 line of cameras are doing innovative stuff which opens more options for shots that you couldn't get with a GoPro. But... they're all just tools. Just the one thats best for you and can produce the video you want / need.
LOL There are literally dozens of videos from well-respected action video vloggers doing comparisons and Insta360 destroys GoPro. GoPro reliability is crap (battery drain, camera shut down, image freeze, advertised features not working), even more than their customer service.
45min, or 170min with a massive case. 😒
I’m sure it’s an ok action camera but I’m sure a lot of people want something more like a Garmin Varia Camera but for the front for safety.
I didnt mention, it has a pre-recording mode...so, when you hit record, it starts recording from 15 seconds ago... may address your issue...
I got excited about this announcement for a few minutes until I did a rational specs comparison and found that it truly sucks in comparison to GoPro.
- It's actually 6g heavier once you factor in the "quick release mount" aka GoPro mount
- It's only IPX4 splash resistant vs. 10 meter immersion, if you're going downhill in the rain it penetrates as much as immersion so you'd need the dive kit
- It's only H.264 80 Mbps vs. H.265 120 Mbps, once you factor in the superior HEVC compression that's about a third of the GoPro bitrate
- It doesn't do 60 Hz at all, only 1080p50 vs. 4K120
- It has fixed storage and battery so it eventually becomes e-waste when either of those wear out (and yes, flash does wear out)
- 128GB max vs. 1TB
- No HDMI port, no webcam mode
- Higher price! The 128GB + quick release bundle is $464 vs. the HERO 11 Black + 128GB SD card for ~$425, that's inexcusable
The only advantages for the GO 3 are its gyroscope assisted stabilization, and slightly longer battery life. Yes 170m sounds like a lot, but that's specced at 1080p30. The GoPro does 137m at 1080p30 which is 80% as long. It's likely that at 1080p50/60 the GoPro battery life is on par, since it actually has a larger battery (1720 vs 1580 mAh).
I'm not a GoPro lover and I'm waiting anxiously for someone to create a credible competitor but this ain't it.
As a GoPro Hero 11 Black owner myself, they're totally different. But, if you're comparing bitrates and HEVC compression algorithms, you're probably not the target user for the Go3. If I was trying to sneak an action camera shot into a AAA hollywood movie, I'd use the Hero 11. For almost everything else I'd use the Go3. Go check out some trust pilot reviews or some other third party review aggregator for the Go1 and Go2. The people who use it are super happy with the quality it puts out. Calling the Go3 heavier than the GoPro is a bit strange. I know loads of people who mount their GoPro under their GPS and then the mount snaps when they hit a speedbump. If you mount just the Go3 (without the action pod, which is how most people will mount it) it's like 15-20% of the weight of the GoPro or something.
Insta360 have their 1-inch sensor for the One R which is more of the GoPro competitor. This thing is designed for more casual users.
Obvious 100% GoPro shill clearly faking having unmet unreasonable expectations. "Only advantages" and omits the biggest one: detachable cam from dock. Seriously, try harder. The shill is too obvious.
@@ChinaCycling So you think your audience of people who self-install L-Twoo erx don't understand or care about camera quality and go on rides of less than 45 minutes. OK, sure.
Prise 450€👎
I'm crying for the bearings on the pink bike. Looks like a decent wide angle and stable.
lol, RIP that BB.
Impressed with pop up screen, would be easier to vlog with this and see what we are shooting.
😂😂😂😂
Was there a blocking period for these information? I got 4 announcements at once (yours and from 3 further subscriptions) about this camera! 😂
Yup! There's always an embargo.
it’s still not on most cyclist bucket list if battery time is so so😊
Tthanks for Go3 info. But i really want to find out about your wheel skewer mount ??? How the heck ?? Please post source. Thanks and keep the great videos.
Hahaha, I got mine from Taobao, but I'd be suprised if amazon didnt have any. It just replaces the drive-side "nut" part of the quick release.
Well presented.
Brave sliding your way through the cattle. Made me take a sharp intake of breath.
Felt safer than 6pm Xiamen traffic, haha.. But yeah... don't wear red jersey on that route.
You are joking a 15 minute run time,
The wedge is a great solution, does it come with the standard box or in the bike bundle? How do you mount it to your garmin?
I'm sold! :)
Can you tell me the record settings? 2k in 50fps so max settings? In native 4k on my 50" TV it looks rly good.
You inserted the 2k material in the 4k Video in post and uploaded in 4k here?
I was mostly recording on 2.7k24fps. And yeah, put it in a 4k timeline and render and put up on here.
that's crazy :) thank you. I always thought fast fps are nessesary to get fast and smooth images for action scenes.
Yeah is great but I ll wait untill I get one on ebay for half the money. For now a new gopro 11 with £299 was awesome deal
Subscribed, Liked, and Thumbs Up 😎👍
Welcome aboard!
Im upset that big youtubers did not leak that there is a coming insta go 3 💔 i just bought insta go 2 last week.
I like that Pink bike, who makes it and how can I possibly get one?
Love the new camera and you too Joe!
Been a sub pretty much from the start!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!
Where do you buy the wedge?
Thanks for the review! I'm curious about how you're attaching the camera to yoru wheel's quick release - what mount are you using? 🙏
Awesome innovation from China. Some people are salty about that.
riiiiight cycling version nearly $900 aud
bad design for a bike. This toy-cam😂
Looks good!
been using and testing it. for cycling, do you think that stabilization in video mode is better than free frame mode? My footage is smooth over bump ini video mode, whereas in free frame mode in the app, the footage is still "bumpy", i can see the vibration
Great video, I was wondering if you think buying the bike kit is necessary or not? I have a GoPro chesty that I’m assuming would be compatible. I don’t know about the other accessories in the bike kit though. Do you find those other accessories to be useful on a regular basis for cycling?
As long as you get the quick mount thing that swaps it to a gopro style mount, you can just use existing accessories.
Hi thanks for sharing the video. where can I find the wedge attachment? Does it come with the kit?
I have the Go 2 and love using it on my bike, but I hope the in-camera battery lasts longer on the 3.
...real world battery, not just box specs :)
50% longer. Ba-Bayum!
Wow I thought this release would have been all youtube instead I stumbled upon it on this channel. The algorithm 🤨
Haha, thank you to the algorithm for steering you this way.
Nice review. I prefer this over the GO 2. Run time seems much better and the pod with the screen is a nice improvement. Hate connecting my Android phone to the GO 2 which takes too long and using the run time on the GO 2 sucks for mountain biking. Too many times the batteries died during the good stuff. Does the GO 3 have make any noise when the camera battery runs low?
Can't remember it making noise when running low, but 1) I hardly ever let it get low, and 2) as I said in the review, the beeping is quiet anyway. I also don't like connecting to cameras with my phone so the action pod is a God send.
just a 20 min commercial, do not watch the video. notice is the latest sponsor deal on youtube. all the youtubers who take any sponsors they can get.they are all raving about this camera.
If you were a UA-camr, and a brand who makes products you liked wanted to sponsor you to get early access to that product and make a video about it, would you? Of course. Ask any UA-camr, we get dozens of emails per week asking us to promote Ai powered composting bins and hair growth pills. Most of us only feature the stuff we like and use ourselves. (Go look at any of my recent videos, they're littered with shots from Insta360 products, I use their cameras almost every day without being paid to because its the best tool for the job.) It's pretty frustrating when people assume you are 'selling out' or something just because you promote a good product.
At least, he is transparent about the sponsorship. No one is forcing you to rush out and buy one based on this review alone. If you’re a mature adult, you could perform your own tests, research and double-check the claims yourself.
Great camera but what the hell is up with riding through rivers of trash?
The area got flooded, trash got washed in. :( its sad.
Excellent review. You answered all my questions. I just subscribed to your channel
Thanks for the sub!
Any idea if the magnet and pendant mount interfere with chest strap heart rate monitors?
I've had no such issues. You can adjust the length of the strap of the pendant.
Very good review and breakdown of features! Thank you
Do you all have to put reviews out on a specific date/time. 3 of the channels a follow have made a review of this camera and made it available at the same time.
Yeah, there's always an embargo. :) I saw a video from me, Francis Cade and The Bike Sauce. :) (and then all the camera nerds, Potato Jet, Peter McKinnon, etc.)
C'mon! You and Jerry could have at least think of different thumbnails...
LoL...nobody sees each other's stuff... and then when it goes live, we're all like "oops!" haha. Like showing up to a dance wearing the same dress... not that I wear a dress....
@@ChinaCycling not that we would judge you for that😅 Besides, it's a fancy piece of attire Insta offers
But yeah, usual thing with embargoed reviews
i am not getting the garmin "traditional" mount---is that not facing the wrong way???? @8:20 you even instinctively held it the way it goes and the camera is pointing straight down?!?
mount works for full case but looks like it is wrong way for the little pop out camera.
The mount can swivel 180 degrees. So you swivel it according to whether its mounted to the camera or the action pod.
@@ChinaCycling hey, thanks for answering! do you think the mount will stay pointing forward over many bumps (korean roads are awful)? i had a drift ghost x once that would always slip and point down by the end of the ride b/c it was too heavy to stay pointing forward.
I have been looking at the 2 for a while. Now I gotta buy this, lots of really cool ways to use this!
You can get some cool shots!
Wow! 😃👍
- well practically oriented test
- nice footage from a country where most ppl had never been
- impressive stabilisation
- transparency in explaning the used hard- and software and post-production
Critical question: is there way to achieve more dynamics in the dark? HDR? Post-production? There was too much black in the shadows under the trees for my taste.
??? 😉
Yeah, all the footage in this video was default settings with auto exposure, etc. You coud set the colour mode to "flat" to get less black shadows or up the EV by a third of.a stop or so.
@@ChinaCycling Thanks! 😃
Wow! what the chances that you and Cade Media has same segment on same day- love it✌️
Haha I have like 5 reviews in a row in my subs tab. It’s probably a set time when the company allows them to upload the videos
How does it compare to the DJI Action 3
I've not used the action 3, I'll assume the Action3 gets slightly better image quality in exchange for being bigger.
Wait, was that a Kuota?
Yeah, I think the brand name got sold to a Chinese factory...
@@ChinaCycling wow! Nice bike man! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
This looks like a great product. Insta360 has done a very good job at evolving their cameras at each generation.
On another note, doesn't anyone in China dispose of rubbish properly, instead of just dumping on the ground?
We are waiting for an extensive review of the electronic L-Twoo!
It died in the rain... then... four days later it came back to life, hahahaha.
It does not sound good :/
Looks like a good product, but I need 4 hours battery life on some camera, ideally. Want to get a camera for safety recording, more than anything else, so it needs to handle the full length of a ride. My longer, common rides on a road bike are 3-3.5 hours, so if a camera can cover that - perfect. The rides longer than that are less common, so I don't mind changing the battery. This one, if it just could have done 190 minutes - just over 3 hours - it'd have been perfect. Going to give this a look though. Thanks for the video!
I'd suggest a battery bank with a small USB cable into an action camera (this one or other)
@@ChinaCycling This camera looks great (I appreciate your review). I do wish someone would put focus on a dashboard cam, with better battery life and storage, slightly lower resolution, because finding the right thing for that is near impossible, while finding something that works well as a vlogging action camera is not so difficult. Gap in the market for a solution there. This does look like a good camera setup though, so I'll see what sort of external battery option might work with it and see if I want to do that. Thanks!
Where did you buy those wedge?
They come with the Go3 I think (mine did) check the website for "Whats in the box" I guess...
@@ChinaCycling edited, yes it came in the box near manual book, thx
so they're in the box already? cool!
yo
bit of a downgrade compared to their go 2 camera don't you think? no lens cover in storage, 9 grams heavier at 35.5g (sounds silly but i bet this is a noticable difference on a jersey or a shirt), case looks cheap as shit. audio is still decent though, this is the most surprising. unnatural colours but that might be your editing. i prefer the go 2, which is great because it likely will finally come down in price. 470 euros is a bit much for a glorified webcam, i'm thinking under 350 would be reasonable
I was throwing around multiple units for months, never scratched a lens. Even if you do, the lenses are replaceable and cheap. The weight upgrade is definitely there, but the main reason for the size increase is heat dispersing, it won't overheat now.
PLEASE dump the Spesh junk on the background...
Are the batteries replaceable?
Nope! Built-in batteries the same as the Go1 and Go2... I guess to simplify waterproofing and keep weight down.
@@ChinaCycling Thanks for the reply. This makes sense, but I would call it a downside. Camera will be useless when the batteries wear out.
Can you buy the 'wedge' to add to the pendant seperately? I didnt see it on the 360 store.Maybe its included under 'bike bundle' but its hard to see exactly what this includes
Good question, I think it comes in the box with even the base model, but I'm not 100% sure, I'll ask!
@@ChinaCycling I’m guessing that people with the Go2 might want to buy a wedge
What's up, everyone! Go3 for ME
