Thank you Sharon. You included some great tips. You explained how to save and reuse the templates as well. I am trying to make a name, ph#, email form that goes across the page and I can list by sorting a to z. Once again thank you. I subscribed.
Another Time saver that is also a Tree Saver. Guess how many reams of paper I've thrown out after printing and finding out there was leftover information from the last time I used a form. You are now my NumberOne Word guru, Sub'd.
hi Sharon this is exactly what I need and beautifully clear, although I'll have to go back over a few times to make sure. I want to send out a template so the user can use repeatedly and have a fresh blank every time. I also wonder if a "send" button to my email address can be added?
Hello - yes, if you have your users save the template file to their computer, they can open a clean blank version each time. Once they start filling in the form, they have the option to save and it will prompt them to rename and save as a document file type. Every time they open the template new, it will be blank. Do you and your users have Microsoft Outlook as your email client? If so, I have a video on how to insert a submit button if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/I7Q7n1jMzu8/v-deo.html The code used in this video works for Outlook. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
Great video I have learnt alot. I have created a form with fill in fields and drop down boxes with options and it all works fine on my system but as soon as I email it I seem to loose all the saved data, the form still has text boxes but none of my saved options are there, any advice?
Hello! Thank you for watching the video and for your kind words! I'm glad you found it helpful. The issue you're describing-losing saved data in your form when emailing it-is a common challenge. Here are a few things you can try: Check the File Format: Ensure you are saving the file as a Word Document (.docx) and not as a Word Template (.dotx) or another format. Templates may reset form fields when reopened. Protect the Form: If you haven’t already, restrict editing on the form to prevent accidental data loss. Go to Developer Tab > Restrict Editing > Allow only filling in forms and apply protection. Email Settings: Sometimes, email systems or third-party software may strip metadata from Word files. Consider compressing the file into a zip folder before emailing it. Also, ensure your end user filling in the form is doing so in Microsoft Word and not another application as it may affect their ability to fill in the form you created. I hope this helps!
Hi Sharon! I love the video, they're so easy to follow! Is there a way that once this is done, you can allow multiple people to access the template at the same time?
Hi Sharon, Thanks for the video. I am trying to have some sort of "clear" button where this form needs to be filled 30-40 times per day. I don't need to save it so after I print it I want to clear it quickly so I can start filling it again
Hello - if you are using all Legacy form fields, there is actually a Reset fields icon in the Legacy Tool drop-down area. So if you have a locked form that is restricted to filling in forms and you fill in out and print it, then you can click "Stop Protection" in the Restrict Editing panel, go to the Developer Tab, Legacy Tool drop-down where you see all the legacy form fields, and I believe it is the last icon that looks like an eraser. You can hover over the icon to see what it is and it should be a Reset icon. When you click it, it clears all the legacy form fields in your document. You would then have to start enforcing protection again to fill it back in. It is a few extra clicks to protect and unprotect, but hoping this solution may work for you. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching!
Hello! Yes, you can insert an ActiveX submit button on Microsoft Word fillable forms. Here is a video on how to do that: ua-cam.com/video/I7Q7n1jMzu8/v-deo.html Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
Hi Sharon, great video. I saved my file as a dotx. However, when I open it and make changes and 'save', it simply overwrites my dotx template and does not prompt me to save as a docx. I can imagine that this is a simple mistake some of my users could make. Is there a way to only save in docx format by default rather than 'Save As' command? Thanks
Thanks for the video, Sharon! I have a client who wants to print everything. Is there any way I can print the rich text content control descriptor so they can see what they will enter into each section?
Is there a way to have the field data from each form be automatically transferred to an excel table after submitting so the data can be aggregated and further processed? Subbed!😊😊
Hello - yes, you can set this up by saving the data files and then setting up a Power Query to connect to a folder where the data files are saved so you can refresh your data in Excel to grab any new forms you save in the connected folder. I do have a video on how to set this up that is one of the lessons in my Course on Creating Fillable Forms in Word: ua-cam.com/play/PLb80efKTbWuNzAyHVMYrPOS7itBm5gWVs.html I do also have another video that shows how to do this one by one that you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/vuddH0Tke0M/v-deo.html I hope this helps! Thanks so much for subscribing to my Channel and for watching my videos!
I'm curious, if I would like to create a document where there are multiple repeated pages of the same template (but blank for every page) would that be possible? For example, the shipping template you created, to have page two of that document be the same template and so on and so forth...
Hi Jasmine! Yes, you could create your form template and copy all, insert a page break at the bottom and paste on each new page you want. Also, not sure if you are needing to create a mail merge document, but if so, I have a video you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/jn0zjxV7xbI/v-deo.html (this is when you have one template page that inserts data from a spreadsheet and creates a new page for each row of spreadsheet data). Hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!
This video is awesome thank you...i have a question. I added a Submit button to the form and saved as a word macro enabled template but once I do that all the legacy input Fields no longer work...do you know what i can do to fix it
I have between 5 - 7 different forms I have to use repetitively any given day. Is it possible to hotkey each fillable form using a macro so that I can pull up 1 of the 7 forms, tab through and fill out each of the fields, alt+x and paste it elsewhere, rinse and repeat?
Hi Kurt! There are things that you can do with Legacy tools easier than with Content Controls. My recommendation is to use all of either one or the other, but not to mix and match content control form fields with legacy tool form fields in the same document. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
You are very welcome Silvia, so glad you found my videos helpful! Thanks for watching and taking time to leave a comment - I really appreciate it! Take care!
Hello, I need assistance. I did exactly what you said and still, when i open the word template with macro, still keep the last info entered…. Any ideas?
Ms sharon you explain very well can you create any videos in fillable form with numbers or with basic calculations like sum, average, percentage etc in microsoft word
Thank you so much, it is really helpful. However, the emails did not reach their destination. I checked everything, even the spelling of the email address in the code. Please help me with this issue. Accept my deep gratitude with due regards.
.docx is pronounced "docs" .dotx is pronounced, "dots" If you place the template file in the custom templates folder, it will appear as a default option under the personal tab when the user clicks new.
Hi Niamh, I believe you can do this using some more advanced VBA code, however I have not tried this yet. Thanks so much for watching my videos! Take care!
So I'm trying to figure out the same thing but in excel. I have saved my file as a macro enabled template, as I've used your videos to create a fillable form via excel however when i go to test the form, it doesn't save the information filled out. Please help
