Here's a follow-up video that shows how you can take form data on hundreds of Word forms and consolidate it into Excel (or any other app) using Power Automate Desktop: ua-cam.com/video/IQ_KpBC8fwo/v-deo.html
Kevin, when I apply the restrictions to editing, the rich text feature turns off and it is not possible to change font colour etc. FYI i have not ticked formatting restrictions. Any advice on this?
Hello @Kevin Stratvert, when I start protecting the document into a fillable form, I cannot use subscript and superscript function. Is there any way I can activate it?
@@markjacobson9532 this has been bugging me also and I have found a solution - grouping. Select all content (CTRL+A), then in Developer > Control section select Group. To make any updates Ungroup.
Every time I need a tutorial on anything tech related, I find myself drawn to all of your tutorials on UA-cam. All of them are very comprehensive, informative and easy to follow. Bravo Kevin Stratvert!
Thank you! Some follow-up questions/requests: (1) How do insert a scroll bar - would love to see an advanced session on that and (2) an automated process consuming/streamlining the data after the form is complete, like the database you mention at the beginning of the video. Appreciate your help - you're terrific.
Thanks for going over this. It would be really good to see how to take the form and populate data to a sql server table. I'd love to see how that's done.
Thanks, Kevin. I'm using this today to create a fillable form and will update this comment AFTER my clients have returned it .... lol ... **UPDATE**: So I got feedback on the form, and I found that while the text boxes worked fine, the drop-down controls didn't open for about half of the people who tried to use the form. Additionally documents with protected fields are not accessible in MS Word online (not sure why) so whoever you send the form to has to download it. Otherwise this worked well for my needs in the context. I will try this again without the drop-downs and with an unprotected file to see if I can get it to work online.
THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL TO ME TODAY. i HAVE A NEED TO MAKE A FILLABLE FORM AND HAD NO IDEA HOW TO DO IT OR IF IT WAS AVAILABLE TO ME IN MICROSOFT WORD 2019. MIGHT HAVE TO WATCH A FEW TIMES TO GET IT IN MY HEAD BUT I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS GREAT TUTORIAL
Hi Kevin thank you for sharing this great tutorial, I've been using word for more than 10 years now and this is the first time I have seen this features. No wonder Amazon and Microsoft is fighting for you. More power to you.
I came here because your tutorials were very helpful on an Excel assignment I was working on in college and I was unable to find a tutorial on dynamically expanding text fields with Acrobat without the need of third party software. My principal was a little disappointed with Acrobat but after Excel course I figured Microsoft would have to have something. Microsoft did and you present the tutorial very well. I've hit that subscribe and at the point of just adding your UA-cam channel link as a response for any how to question for Microsoft. Well done sir.👍
Hi Kevin! Fantastic video, I easily followed the steps and quickly created the form I needed - Thank you! The only problem I've come across is that although the locked form works perfectly on the laptop, as soon as I open it on a tablet or phone, the fillable fields no longer work. I need staff to access these forms on their devices so any advice you have on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the brilliant tutorial Kevin! :)
Great instruction! I've been struggling with fillable PDF forms and this is much better. Thank you! Hey, this cookie company is going to be a "Big Deal."
Short, sweet and to the point! I'd love to know how to make the boxes only able to expand down and not sideways as people add text longer than the box. When it is added, the box expands down and sideways messing up cell size formatting.
This is great. I have been tasked to do some forms for work that the team can use. I did this once before about 15 years ago on the older version of word. I have not done it again so now lost the knack of it. This tutorial is really going to help me. I'll have to watch it 2 or three times for it to sink in but it's just what I need to get sorted !
Great tutorial as always. I’m on a Mac and I don’t get all the tools when I install the developer ribbon. Am I missing something or does Mac not have the same level of functionality? Thank you!
Hi Kevin, love your videos! One question about this one: it is all clear how to create this form. There is one situation where I would like to print a form with some fields left empty (so the default text is still in the field). Is it possible that the default text (click here...) is NOT printed? That would be handy! Thanks in advance!
Hi Kevin :) Thanks so much for your REALLY informative and easy-to-understand instructions! I'm a newbie to form-making, and am having a few problems...hope you can help. I've created a form using word & text boxes, then added various fields per your guidelines. But, during the practice run, the text box outline appears each place I want to fill in data, even though I have deleted the text box outline option. This doesn't happen when you are filling the form on your vid. Can you please help? AND the cursor does not automatically move to the next question, it moves 2/3 questions down the page.... Huge thanks
This is a really good video. This presenter came prepared, knows what to say, is very confident and decisive, understands the learner's level. I'll be looking for more of his tutorials.
As always, an amazing tutorial, filled with great tips and insights. Congrats Kevin 😎 Now, can you do one linked/stored to/in a database? That would be also really helpful.
Hi Kevin, great tutorial thank you. I have a couple of questions. 1. If I save this Word document in Adobe PDF will the selection fields work? 2. Is it possible to create a template for writing reports in Word using elements you discuss in your tutorial. For example, my client produces monthly Political Country Briefing reports and is looking to standardise the templates to keep them consistent. I'm looking to create fields for researcher/analysts to type their research into specified text boxes and to upload images and charts into specific areas of the template. I look forward to hearing from you.
In general, a PDF form is much better than a Word form. Word forms rarely meet accessibility criteria (for use by someone with a disability) even when Word's accessibility checker seems to "pass" the doc. When you export to a PDF, Word form fields do NOT get converted. To avoid a lot of PDF editing "clean up," export to PDF from a source Word doc that has NO form fields but allows spacing. You have to manually add form fields and set each's properties using a PDF editor.
I just found it! Go to "Word" (like you would to quit program) then "Preferences" and I had "Ribbon and Toolbar" under "Authoring and Proofreading Tools"
Mr. Kevin, I deeply appreciate this video. It was quick and did not waste a lot of time with other talk. I will begin using this new knowledge immediately! Thank You
I love to follow Kevin's instruction. Very clear and easy to understand explanation. I have watched and learned a lot from his tutorial videos. Here, I would like to ask Kevin for guidance on: (1) how do I change a Drop-Down List Content to Combo Box Content, instead of deleting the whole column and re-do (2) how do I change and fix the font size of the developer wording to be same as the font size of answer I have fixed. Appreciate if anyone could guide me on this. Thank you!
