Here's a follow-up video that shows how you can take form data on hundreds of Word forms and consolidate it into Excel (or any other app) using Power Automate Desktop: ua-cam.com/video/IQ_KpBC8fwo/v-deo.html
Kevin, when I apply the restrictions to editing, the rich text feature turns off and it is not possible to change font colour etc. FYI i have not ticked formatting restrictions. Any advice on this?
Hello @Kevin Stratvert, when I start protecting the document into a fillable form, I cannot use subscript and superscript function. Is there any way I can activate it?
@@markjacobson9532 this has been bugging me also and I have found a solution - grouping. Select all content (CTRL+A), then in Developer > Control section select Group. To make any updates Ungroup.
Hi there Kevin, is it possible to add an electronic signature field in this form?
We
I have NEVER had ANYBODY explain Word as easily as you have, Kevin. You’re a Godsend! Thank you!

I could not agree more. I was able to complete by the end of the video. I just stopped the video, did what he said and moved on. Awesome!
He truly is! In fact whenever I'm stucked with something I'll just jump in here and look for a tutorial from Kevin!
Absolutely! This was a fantastic tutorial!
Every time I need a tutorial on anything tech related, I find myself drawn to all of your tutorials on UA-cam. All of them are very comprehensive, informative and easy to follow. Bravo Kevin Stratvert!
Ditto!
This is extremely helpful! Much easier to use than other document form makers. Thank you, Kevin.
Thanks for a great short video. I was trying to make a form for school. I have not had to do this in years and Word has changed so much since the last time I made a form. Super easy, clear, and helpful
Clear instruction. Straight to the point. No time wasted. Good demonstration of the steps. Thanks a lot.
Great job, Kevin. Reminder to people creating their forms: edit the default text that appears on the form so that consumers of the form will know what options they have. Trust me, if you don't you'll get all sorts of people typing in all sorts of responses. Great option if you don't have Adobe Pro to create fillable forms and don't want to use Microsoft Forms.
Thank you! Some follow-up questions/requests: (1) How do insert a scroll bar - would love to see an advanced session on that and (2) an automated process consuming/streamlining the data after the form is complete, like the database you mention at the beginning of the video. Appreciate your help - you're terrific.
I have NEVER had ANYBODY explain Word as easily as you have, KevinStratvert. You’re a Godsend! Thank !
This is what I spent a huge chunk of yesterday working on! Perfect timing. Gonna go refine my form now.
This was EXTREMELY useful! I recently had to learn how to make fillable checkboxes, but I didn't know we could do much more! Thanks, Kevin!
Thank You Thank You Thank You!! You have a great pace for following along and I appreciate your explanations that are done quickly and not drawn out. You are a great coach.
I learned a lot in a very short period of time. Best tutorial on the subject I found. Thanks Kevin!
Thanks for going over this. It would be really good to see how to take the form and populate data to a sql server table. I'd love to see how that's done.
As always, an amazing tutorial, filled with great tips and insights. Congrats Kevin 😎
Now, can you do one linked/stored to/in a database? That would be also really helpful.
I had gotten about halfway trying to figure this out on my own, but Kevin helps me take it to the finish line and avoid embarrassing errors. Thanks, Kevin!!
Exactly what I needed for a task for my team. Thank you! I really appreciate the clear directions and easy to follow format!
What‘s your secret to knowing what everybody with slightly more advanced IT skills needs to know? You are in people‘s brains!
Hi Kevin thank you for sharing this great tutorial, I've been using word for more than 10 years now and this is the first time I have seen this features. No wonder Amazon and Microsoft is fighting for you. More power to you.
After messing with making PDFs and the nightmare that, this video is worth it's (digital) weight in gold. Thank you!
Kevin, I can't thank you enough - you explain in such easy terms. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you.
Another thing I had no idea that was possible until now. Thanks Kevin. :)
hey you can also use this in PowerPoint
its grate idea for your channel too
@@kohinoorakterpopy7388 very true :)
Great instruction! I've been struggling with fillable PDF forms and this is much better. Thank you! Hey, this cookie company is going to be a "Big Deal."
Thank you so much. Volunteering with non-profit and our applicants are always messing with our form - this will make it so much easier!!!
Kevin, I love your channel. You are straight to the point, concise, and easy to understand. You have the best tutorial vids 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Loving your work Kevin. You are reaching super-star status in our Ops Team!
Kevin, any chance you will do a tutorial on connecting the form to a database? Love your tutorials. You make the seemingly complex easy!
i was just going to ask that...You beat me to it! :)
Teresa, please DO!!
same here! looking forward to that connecting to a database video
Yes, please do
Yes yes!!
This was exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for a clear explanation. Can't wait to get started!
Mr. Kevin, I deeply appreciate this video. It was quick and did not waste a lot of time with other talk. I will begin using this new knowledge immediately! Thank You
Short, sweet and to the point! I'd love to know how to make the boxes only able to expand down and not sideways as people add text longer than the box. When it is added, the box expands down and sideways messing up cell size formatting.
Hi Kevin! Fantastic video, I easily followed the steps and quickly created the form I needed - Thank you! The only problem I've come across is that although the locked form works perfectly on the laptop, as soon as I open it on a tablet or phone, the fillable fields no longer work. I need staff to access these forms on their devices so any advice you have on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the brilliant tutorial Kevin! :)
Thank you Kevin. The best explanations in the use of all Microsoft programs such as Word, One note and all others. God bless you. Took me one hour to learn but it was worth every minute. You are the best.
I came here because your tutorials were very helpful on an Excel assignment I was working on in college and I was unable to find a tutorial on dynamically expanding text fields with Acrobat without the need of third party software. My principal was a little disappointed with Acrobat but after Excel course I figured Microsoft would have to have something. Microsoft did and you present the tutorial very well. I've hit that subscribe and at the point of just adding your UA-cam channel link as a response for any how to question for Microsoft. Well done sir.👍
Hi Kevin :) Thanks so much for your REALLY informative and easy-to-understand instructions! I'm a newbie to form-making, and am having a few problems...hope you can help. I've created a form using word & text boxes, then added various fields per your guidelines. But, during the practice run, the text box outline appears each place I want to fill in data, even though I have deleted the text box outline option. This doesn't happen when you are filling the form on your vid. Can you please help? AND the cursor does not automatically move to the next question, it moves 2/3 questions down the page.... Huge thanks
THNAK YOU! I have been paying freelancers to do this. I've had lots of issues with them following basic instructions, so this is a GOD-SEND!
This is a really good video. This presenter came prepared, knows what to say, is very confident and decisive, understands the learner's level. I'll be looking for more of his tutorials.
I would love to see how to create tables right from the start as I always have trouble editing tables in MicroSoft Word.
me too!
Hi Kevin, love your videos! One question about this one: it is all clear how to create this form. There is one situation where I would like to print a form with some fields left empty (so the default text is still in the field). Is it possible that the default text (click here...) is NOT printed? That would be handy! Thanks in advance!
I thought this was very clear, straightforward and helpful. Thank you for making this video.
Your teachings are so wonderful and clear to learn. Thank you for your teachings. God Bless!
Need to store this in a database, please do it for us... Especially in a excel file in network location

I'd love to see this happen too. But it looks like Kevin never replies to his comments...
@@mdtaylor2274 If you ask for a video in the comments, Kevin's reply is generally the video.
Great tutorial as always. I’m on a Mac and I don’t get all the tools when I install the developer ribbon. Am I missing something or does Mac not have the same level of functionality? Thank you!
Same problem. When I add a Combo box the dropdown arrow doesn't actually appear and there's no option for a Dropdown List
OMG! Thank you! I have been wanting to learn this for sometime but always asked someone but you made it so simple. I am following you now!
Thank you thank you! I finally know how to do this now. I've looked up bits and pieces but this really put it together for me
Are these functions available in Excel? Would really like to use it to record some student work & the worksheet format would work out better
i am using a mac and i have the office 365, the functions are very different on what you are showing, do you have a tutorial on that?
This is great. I have been tasked to do some forms for work that the team can use. I did this once before about 15 years ago on the older version of word. I have not done it again so now lost the knack of it. This tutorial is really going to help me. I'll have to watch it 2 or three times for it to sink in but it's just what I need to get sorted !
Excellent tutorial. Easy to understand and no waffling. Got my form done right the first time following these instructions.
How are these kind of forms distributed best? As document or as template?
Kevin sir tq for this video. My small doubt is shall we export this document to pdf and fill the form in pdf document?
Pl clarify sir
In general, a PDF form is much better than a Word form. Word forms rarely meet accessibility criteria (for use by someone with a disability) even when Word's accessibility checker seems to "pass" the doc. When you export to a PDF, Word form fields do NOT get converted.
To avoid a lot of PDF editing "clean up," export to PDF from a source Word doc that has NO form fields but allows spacing. You have to manually add form fields and set each's properties using a PDF editor.
I had no idea how to do this. Always watch your videos sometimes, very brief and easy to follow. Thanks
Thank you very much for this video. I especially appreciate the direction on how to activate the Developer tab... other videos/instructions online assumed this and I felt hung up from the start so it was very much appreciated that you took the time to explain this early and critical step. Even making the sample document you used in the video was so helpful. Thanks again.
Thanks Kevin! Is there any way to do this on a Mac as well, or is it only available for PC?
I just found it! Go to "Word" (like you would to quit program) then "Preferences" and I had "Ribbon and Toolbar" under "Authoring and Proofreading Tools"
Hi Kevin, great tutorial thank you. I have a couple of questions. 1. If I save this Word document in Adobe PDF will the selection fields work? 2. Is it possible to create a template for writing reports in Word using elements you discuss in your tutorial. For example, my client produces monthly Political Country Briefing reports and is looking to standardise the templates to keep them consistent. I'm looking to create fields for researcher/analysts to type their research into specified text boxes and to upload images and charts into specific areas of the template. I look forward to hearing from you.
Have you rec’d a reply from Kevin? I too had that question when he spoke of distributing the form
@@gordonresquer4604 No, he didn't reply.
I do keep coming back to this site for easy to understand tutorials. Thanks for all the great work.
Hi Kevin, thank you for all your videos. I'm a teacher and throughout this year, your videos have helped me upskill (since it's necessary for teachers to be tech-aware (if not savvy) in this current situation. All the best to you. :) Regards from Down Under.
can we use microsoft office/docs cellphone application (ios/android) to answer the fillable form?
Thanks
Kevin how you publish this tho, and also how can you gather data from this form. how to connect with database
Best 12 minutes spent, Great explanations of creating a fillable forms. Thank you,
Kevin thanks for sharing all your wonderful, easy and funny tutorials. I have learned so much from you! Thanks, such a life saver during Covid 19 times.
I’ve tried this before but it was incompatible with my customers using Word on Apple computers!
Hi Peter I have a mac and I found it in Preferences edit toolbar :)
So much help, thank you! I've created forms by guessing how to set up but this made things so much easier!!
This is a good teacher with great strategy and humour. Thanks Kevin
Excellent!!! I already knew a lot of this and just wanted something quick to show me how to get it protected so users won't be popping into the static text fields. Nice and fast and very clear. Thanks!!!!!
A highly useful tutorial! BTW, fillable text forms are a great tool for preparing open questions in reading comprehension activities. Students fill in their answers in a password-protected WORD document, save the file under their names and email it back to the teacher or lecturer or post on MOODLE assignments.
Thank you so much Kevin, I really love learning from you, keep up everything you do, your awesome man!
Absolutely BRILLIANT. I have searched high and low for this information
Kevin, thank you so much for your useful videos! Once again, you have extended my capabilities with these organized, easy to follow instructions!
Okay! Enough! Spent time digging deeply into the functionality of Ms. Word, What a Great Miracle! Super thank you!
Holy smokes Kevin!! I loved this tutorial!! I had no idea I could do this in word!! Keep up the great work!!! I appreciate your channel!
this was great! It was so easy to follow and I was able to create my own form in a matter of minutes after just watching the video once. Great Job!!Thanks so much
Love this tutorial so much! My best option was Adobe Acrobat but it's too expensive. So I've been searching for its alternative for years. Now I don't have to anymore. Thank you so much!
Very nice tutorial on fillable forms! Thanks Kevin! You are a great tutor! 😊👍
Just wanted to thank you for your content, I often use your videos when I am trying to sort our problems in Microsoft.
Fabulous tutorial. Very clear and easy to understand. Thanks!
What a useful tutorial, thank you Kevin. Your clear instructions make it seem so easy.
Yea Kevin! Never knew WORD can do this. Thank you for concise directions. You've got a fan. I've subscribed and will go to your tutorials from now on. Good luck with that cookie company.
Thanks, Kevin. Most appreciated. Very helpful. I am a pretty experienced Word user and never knew this existed. Great tutorial!
And the fact that you gave us the document follow along !! Brilliant
Kevin you explained everything PERFECTLY! Thank you
Thank you for the short and simple explanation. Bravo!
Such a clear explanation that makes fillable forms so easy - and free:) Thank you
Short, concise and precise:THANK YOU!
This is PERFECT! Not overly complicated and you kept it super simple! I absolutely LOVE you! =D
Thanks so much. This is my first video. It was easy and clear to follow along. I had no problem with implementing. I will be back
Thanks, Kevin. I'm using this today to create a fillable form and will update this comment AFTER my clients have returned it .... lol ...
**UPDATE**: So I got feedback on the form, and I found that while the text boxes worked fine, the drop-down controls didn't open for about half of the people who tried to use the form. Additionally documents with protected fields are not accessible in MS Word online (not sure why) so whoever you send the form to has to download it. Otherwise this worked well for my needs in the context.
I will try this again without the drop-downs and with an unprotected file to see if I can get it to work online.
Concise, easy to follow, covered all the bases. Bless you, kind stranger!
This was easily one of the best instructional videos on any topic I've seen. Exactly the right speed, your speaking was level and clear, your visuals were easy to follow. I usually like girls who host videos because I like the sounds of their voices, but I tell you, you are the cream of the crop here, buddy. I'm subscribing!
Thank you for that tutorial. I made a simple fill in the blank/check the things you want form, in very little time.
This really helped me, the tutorial is easy to follow and straight to the point
Great instructions! I was able to create a site visit review form needed for my job. Thank you!
This was awesome. I had a little trouble initially, as my Mac did not have the ribbon icon; so I jumped on my Dell and all was right with the world. You Rock!!
Excellent video, just what I needed to fix my non-fillable version.
Kevin, you are an excellent “Professor”. Your explanation method is superb with easy to understand English and in very clear voice. Thank you for your knowledgeable videos. ❤
Fabulous tutorial as always. Very clear and easy to understand. Thanks!
THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL TO ME TODAY. i HAVE A NEED TO MAKE A FILLABLE FORM AND HAD NO IDEA HOW TO DO IT OR IF IT WAS AVAILABLE TO ME IN MICROSOFT WORD 2019. MIGHT HAVE TO WATCH A FEW TIMES TO GET IT IN MY HEAD BUT I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS GREAT TUTORIAL
Kevin these are THE BEST Word tutorials I have seen on UA-cam thank you ! What about adding a drop down list that you can select multiple choices on the menu? From 1 to none to all of them?
All I can say is, WOW WOW WOW!! This was helpful. Easily applicable to my life. I can't believe how much useful information was in this video! Thank you for sharing!! 🙏🏻😊❤️
A good, clean tutorial with straight up info AND some cute humor. I like this!
