  • JR and Erins ride at the 2023 Odessa Desert 100. We rode the race together and had helmet communicators as well as buddy tracking on the GPS. Finished the course in 6 hours. I (JR) was on a 2017 KTM 450 SXF and the one filming. Erin was on a 2017 KTM 350 XCF that is long overdue for a starter replacement. It has a "dead" spot where the starter motor will not turn over.. You need to roll the bike with it in gear to get the starter to engage. Kind of a pain. Parts have been taking their sweet time rolling in so we had to race with what we had.
We would ride fast when we could and then take "active" breaks by slowing down, sitting, stretching ect. Besides the pits we stoped 4 other times for a quick energy shot or bathroom break.
The D100 races in 2 waves. 100 miles racers go in the first wave. They have black numbers 50 mile (red numbers) go in the 2nd wave as well as 100 mile teams (blue). The team race is a relay race where 2 riders race the same bike.
Ill will update later this week when the final numbers come in but last year there was 1300 racers total with 800 doing the 100 mile. Not sure of the totals this year, but only 470 finished the 100.
Huge thanks to following people and groups who help us with these events.
-Tim Branen of Tims Meats for letting us barrow his trailer. It would have been a cold weekend without it.
-Jamey Parks of Empire of Dirt. Our couch and mentor who helps push us to be better. She can be seen passing us around the 14 minute mark of the video doing the 50 mile race.
    - 509 for sponsoring us in our Dirt and snow adventures
-Powersports Unlimited for being our Go To store for parts and advice.
-Evo Idaho Suspension. Good suspension makes a difference, especially in a race like this.

Sorry for the late reply. We were using the cardo freecom 4x for the race but have since upgraded to the pack talk edge.

Good job to both of you! Erin you rode awesome. Not to many people can stand for the majority of that race. 👍👍

Lol i don't know how people ride that fast sitting and don't die. Our reaction skills just that good apparently. Thats what cause my wreck last year was sitting and hit some woops and endo'd it. Chipped 3 teeth lol. So ya, we stand a lot unless we are going slower then its safe for us.

Got the chance to mark your helmet at the check at the 11 minute mark. Thanks for being polite. Glad you had a great day. Wish I had some of your skills. At 55 it gets harder to ride

haha thats funny. Ya It would have helped If I had stoped moving my head around so much haha. This race is WAY out of out comfort zone. Im more a hard enduro or snowbike rider. Slower and or softer crashes. That race is crazy. Already preparing mentally for next year though!

At five minutes when you come across the red bike that crashed was the rider OK? I saw him crash and stopped to help. He was knocked out cold.

@@JRlastofthebreed Thanks JR, I could not tell from the video if he was still there on the ground or not. We were asked to move on by the SJ crews. Hope he was ok, sure made me slow it down a notch or two.
