This is the best explanation I’ve ever seen - Thank you!!!
Thanks for your feedback Nikki G. I'm glad you found my kinesiology tape explanation helpful!
Agreed, went through like 5 other videos and he made more sense regarding the concept of the skin as 'lasagne' among others.
Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you found my video helpful.
Agreed, I went from "we just don't know, but buy my brand below" to "you'll get this relief, that relief, but they never address the elephant in the room...HOW??? Then I find this video and get..."your skin has layers, the layers prevent the travel of fluid, k tape promotes that fluid flow". I can directly relate that info to my experience of getting relief when the tape wrinkles up with my skin.
Very clear explanation, I'm happy I found a k tape nerd over a k tape salesman.
This is exactly why the community needs the dislike count visible. Two literal crap options, then the actual answer. We shouldn't have to waste our time with a salesman using the "I got info" click bait tactic and never even providing info.
So thank you for your video and not BSing around. You rock!
I just met a trainer who ran marathons very athletic very strong looking and she had that all over her shoulder. But she told me she started with super bad knee trouble and used this tape for awhile and it completely allowed her knee to heal so…. two thumbs up.👍🏼 👍🏼
Glad you found my content helpful SK Bruning! Thank you so much for your feedback.
So refreshing to see a therapist supporting and believing their clients.
As an old lady but super active I use K tape on one foot, a meniscus knee tear, bursitis flare up on hip, glute strain, shoulder over use. I love this stuff. I can get back to physical work because of it. Excellent explanation of why and how it works.
Thanks for sharing. I am glad you found my content helpful.
Any tips for applying it for meniscus injury? I've watched a few online and am just trial and erroring the process. Thank you! (from a middle-aged woman trying to get back to her own physical job)
Thank you for breaking this down super duper clearly !!! Best explanation by far !!!
Thanks for this fun and informative video! I've heard this is a good option for RA and was pretty lost about where to start until this video
Great video the explanation was very helpful. Thank you!
This was so informative, funny, and just answered all of my questions in a fun, easy to understand way. Great Job!
Hi Taylor,
I’m glad you found my Kinesiotape video helpful and informative AND fun! I appreciate your feedback.
This stuff is amazing I had pain at the bottom of my quad and I wore this in my basketball games and it took the pain away and even made it feel better
Kinesiology tape is quite amazing for what it is. I am reminded of this whenever I personally use it. Such a simple concept and so cool that it can help with pain relief in so many different parts of the body. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I found this video interesting, thank you for sharing. I also enjoyed seeing how much you love what you do. Have a happy day!
Valuable information. Ty Dr.
This is an AWESOME video! Super informative and I really love how you broke down a lot of the questions I had about KT tape. I
Excited to use some on my golfer's elbow injury! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for your comment Richard! I hope it helps your golfer's elbow. There are so many uses for Kinesiotape and it is so easy to try. Here's to pain-free golf!
its durability?
Great information, I've been using it around my shoulder for sometime. Love the science behind it!
Such an versatile, simple, and inexpensive tool.
Great video- targeted, concise, easy to digest.
Thank you!
Thank you so much Fluffy Mims.
Very straight forward and informative. Enough info so that I had a better grasp on why the tape works without providing too much info and overwhelming me with medical jargon
Thanks for your feedback Lauren E.J.. I'm glad that you have found my information about Kinesiology Tape to be helpful. 😊
Most helpful information I’ve found. THANK YOU
That is great to hear. Thanks for your feedback.
Been suffering with tennis elbow for about six weeks. I have three more weeks to go. Someone told me about KT tape and were adamant that I use it rather than a sling. Your explanation was more than helpful 🧡🧡 Thanks so much!
Love this! Very informative! Thanks Dr. Pedersen!
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you learned something from the video.
This is very beneficial .. thank you for sharing
Thank YOU for watching and sharing your thoughts Jack Rohm. Take care.
Thanks bro, you cleared it up for me, no more mystery.
That is wonderful to hear. I often get questions from patients about how do KT tape (Rock Tape, kinesiotape) work. I'm glad my explanation helped you.
Awesome video thank you . I use kt tape for twisted ankle. Helps me a lot .
KT tape is amazing. Using kinesiology tape for sprained ankles is a great application. Thanks for your comment.
Your presence and your presentation is so strong I didn’t notice bad hair day.
LOL. That makes me smile. Thank you for your kind words.
Amazing explanation ❤
Thank you.
🎉VERY helpful and easy to understand info! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I'm glad you found it useful. 🙌🏼
Thank you so much! I learned a lot from you!!🎾🎾🎾
Wonderful! 😊
i love the way you explain it
Thank you for your comment on my kinesiology KT tape video. I’m glad the explanation helped you.
Yeah !! Good explanation 😊
This info is so informative having terrible shoulder pain for years this is a must try where at meds don't work, ntn try ntn done ☆
Thank you for your comment!
Nice! Finally an intelligent explanation :)
I’m glad you found it helpful!
Thank you.
I use it on my knee when I have bursitis. It lifts the skin away from the swollen bursa sac, thus removing the friction on it. I think it speeds the recovery time up.
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
I knew it was a paid advertisement at 05:38. You did really good work not alerting people to the fact that it is a paid sponsorship but it was made blatantly obvious at that point when you wouldn't alert us of the contraindications, yourself.
I've seen the tape work first hand! I had a severe bone contusion with a lot of bruising due to repetitive impact from my sport. My trainer cut two pieces into small strips and basically spider-webbed it over the bruise. After a week, the bruising had lifted significantly on my shin where the strips were! (The bruise had a spiderweb design in it which looked kind of cool, not going to lie 😅) I am amazed how KT tape does what it does, but it works!
Does it work for frozen shoulders?
Perfect video! Thanks
You're welcome! Thank you so much for watching.
I use KTape along with arch pads to relieve my flat feet and plantar fasciitis.
I love KT tape I tell all my co workers about it 👍🏾
I find it interesting that you say not to apply any stretch to the tape at all, when KT Tape has released many videos that say to use varying ratios of stretch on application. I have seen a variety of videos where everyone referrences some form or method of stretching the tape during application.
Is there any specific reason? I ask because every once in a while i get some skin irritation and i wonder if thats because of the stretching. Im also wondering if maybe stretching the tape could cause some form of overcompensation or something?
That said i really liked your thorough explanations and the lasagna metaphor for the skin layers. Thank you!
Great video thanks gonna try it on my shoulder soon as it arrives now subded🎉
Awesome! Thank you for your comment!
I love KT tape. I am a KT tape nerd. I have used it so much with so much success.
The downside is I keep hurting myself so I need to use it.( another problem.)
Your description is wonderful. As much as I have used it, I still learned a lot. I love the lasagna image. It is like magic sometimes. And now I know why.
Thank you so much for subscribing to my channel. Glad you found my content helpful.🙏🏼
I used kt for years on my knees, and ankles in place of other methods or braces what are very uncomfortable. And I definitely I find the tape is more confortable to wear
Dang this was really freaking helpful
Glad you found my content helpful Abayey. Thank you so much for watching.
@@PositiveMotionChiro Of course! Thank you!
I've never heard of not stretching the tape at all...I always stretch it about 25 -30 percent and it works for me. I will try it this way, too. Great tip to stretch the muscle, too!
I was taught in something called “paper off tension.” The tape comes pre-stretched about 25% or so on the paper backing. So applying the tape with “paper off tension” should give you that 25% stretch. I’m excited to hear if you notice a difference. Thanks for your comment.
The manufacturer of this product recommends to stretch as applying.
Thank You one of the best instructional I have seen. I play pickleball 7 -8 times a week and am developing wrist pain and have already strained my achilles for over 2 months now. any suggestions ?
Thanks for your kind words. Your questions gives me some great ideas for new material to put out videos about. Stay tuned and make sure you are subscribed to my channel so you will see it when it gets posted.
personally i have been using it for some time for lymphatic drainage and it really works
Glad it's helped you Ines Ines. Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for debunking KT tape, I was skeptical about always thinking it was a placebo thing but was nice to hear some of the science behind it
He didn’t debunk it😂 he was supporting the use of it
Research studies have stated that there is no significant difference using or not. Thus your placebo effect might be significant. Now I will say this vid 3 reason make sense but the studies show that physical therapy vs KT tape showed no sig. diff. I use it, because for me it does give some support.
This could help so many in pain !
It is a pretty great, cost effective tool that is easy to try. It doesn’t fix everything, but I have seen it help in many cases.
Would you have a video demonstrating how to wrap a lower leg that’s hurting but we don’t know the source of the hurting other then practicing for Football (first time player at age 16yo)
I LOVE the tape. It really helps. I tore my rotator cuff about 19 years ago and it gets cranky. The tape keeps me moving!
I found some that has the copper and it works EVEN better. I had no idea it would but it was the only thing I could get when I ran out one time!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can not use the KT brand. The adhesive causes me to get raw...But the cheap Equate brand at Walmart does not affect me. As someone who has adhesive issues I just have to try the brands and find what I can use!
I have quad muscle pain & swell after a soccer game. When should I start using KT tape?
Where would you apply tape on the shoulder and elbows for lifting heavy boxes in a warehouse
Dr is the first time I listened about a tape but I would like to to ask you if you also do another technique like testing the muscle to find out what is causing the problem that’s how I remember my first chiropractor working and believe he was very effective all the time
Hi sirena Garrido,
The technique I think you are referring to is called Applied Kinesiology (AK). It involves testing muscles in the body and looking for functional inhibition of muscles. I am trained in applied kinesiology and use it with my patients. I find it invaluable in helping people to get lasting results.
@@PositiveMotionChiro I wish I live near you the most difficult thing for me is to know exactly what I have and no find anybody around me to help me, most chiropractor don’t believe in kinesiology they just they don’t work the meridians and I I have to tell you are is just you doesn’t know is very limited the knowledge, anyway thank you for answering me and I am learning new things in your videos that I didn’t know
I recently developed a rotator cuff I was feeling a little pinch and when I started doing physical therapy I got pain in places I never have it before they gave me weight and after that the pain came and since that day until today I have the pain and I was lucky that my chiropractor helped me to lose the muscles and feel better I also developed a pain in my coccyx I had to quit that therapy but the damage was done and my pain change but there other constant in my body
From my own experience it works verey god for knee stabilization and also my grandmother it work good on her inflamation
Is it effective for some lymphedema cases ?
I tried the tape on my knee for the first time today and I've never moved better
Happy to hear it that the tape helped you out!
During my last workout I felt like I pulled off a bit of my pectoral muscle of my sternum. I now baught some tape in hope of healing those things back together. What are my chances of that happening ^^
I would love to see the citations from academic study that prove that k-tape actually works beyong being a psychological aid and feeling good on the skin. There have been studies that discredit the efficacy of k-tape.
Even if it's the placebo effect, if it puts me out of pain and able to perform normally, I'm happy.
Hi, thank you for great info. Anyone you can recommend in the San Diego, CA? Greatly appreaciate it.
Hi Savelina,
When I am traveling and need to find a good chiropractor I usually go to this website where chiropractors who specialize in sports chiropractic are listed: acbsp.com They have done additional training beyond their chiropractic school, usually utilize things like kinesiology tape in treatment of their patients, and work to get patients fixed up quick (vs. asking them to come back 3x/wk for months on end).
I hope you find a great doc! Take care.
@@PositiveMotionChiro Thank you. I will look into that. Happy Holidays and stay safe.
Good explanation ,it understand how to use it
Glad you think so!
I have had chronic mid-point achilles inflammation & pain for 20 years (maybe over use, maybe reaction to antibiotic, we aren’t sure). It was both Achilles but now just one. I do eccentric stretches/loading. Would tape help relieve acute pain when hiking/walking? (Starting an intense 4 week course of weekly shockwave in a couple weeks, fingers crossed).
How do you tape a mcp injury on your middle finger. My finger hyrts on thr knuckle between my index finger and middle finger esp if i move it side to side. Dr said nothing they can do but dont use my hand 6 weeks. Thats not an option for me.
What about frozen shoulder application?
I am basketball player i dislocated my left shoulder 3 weeks ago can this tape help me i am worrying to dislocate again
Could you also use this for SI joint instability instead of the belt?
Hi Sheron,
That is a great question. I don’t find that kinesiology tape works well as an SI belt or support. The weave of the tape allows for too much stretch and an SI belt is meant to stabilize a joint. So I wouldn’t recommend it for that usage. Take care!
Can you show how to take the knee for in-stability problems
Hi Diana,
I will add that to my list of videos to get filmed and uploaded. I appreciate you watching and asking for this!
Take care make sure you have subscribed (and turned on notifications) so you will see the video when I post it.
Also, for sagging belly muscles. They're hurting my back
I have major tailbone pain still after giving birth almost three years ago… any suggestions? I can sit for a max of three minutes before I am uncomfortable again.
It’s magical
Is there a specific it tape that more waterproof then the others? I'm in the water alot and we just started using taping for a chronic wrist and hand issue
KT Tape Pro Extreme is meant for athletes who are in the water. It seems to work well with the divers, swimmers, and surfers that I treat.
Would this work for getting leg cramps or stop getting cramps I should say ? After I’ve had a ruff day of physical work I get leg cramps at night so bad I’m afraid to lay down and go to sleep
Hi James,
That is a great question. It can sometimes helps athletes with having less cramps, but I don’t know if it would work for night cramps. You should check with your doctor about your leg cramps at night as they sound quite severe and sometimes spontaneous cramping of muscles can be a sign of something more serious going on in the body. Your doc should be able to help you determine the cause of your leg cramps. Some things that I look at in that regard with patients is first ruling out serious causes like electrolyte imbalances in the blood (with labs test if indicated), functionally low levels of magnesium (magnesium acts like a relaxation / turn-off switch for muscles), overpronation where your calf muscles are overworking all day because the arches of your feet aren’t being properly supported. I recommend getting in to see your doctor and looking further into what could be causing your specific cramping. Take care!
What do you think of people with hyper mobility using it?
That is a great question! Kinesiotape (KT Tape) is not going to rigidly hold joints in place like an athletic tape would. But it does confer proprioceptive (nervous system) input which can help your body to move and behave differently. It would be something that a person with hypermobility could try and see if it made them feel like they have more stability. That is the great thing about KT tape - it is relatively inexpensive, easy to apply and then see how it makes the person feel. It is doesn't help or bothers them they can pull it right off.
This sure saves a person from having surgery. And even if you do have surgery, you could still put the tape on for faster healing . And you could definitely go back to doing the sport you love.
after how many days it can b removed?
Hi namita pant,
If it is not irritating the skin or falling off it can last for 2-3 days. If it starts to irritate the skin in any way or itch then I direct my patients to remove it immediately. Great question!
AmaIng
Thank you!
do you have the recipe for that lasagna. Nice work
Ha! Very clever comment. I wish I was a great Italian cook. That would be amazing.
Your advice on using the tape says to not stretch the tape but stretch your muscles, but every video I watch for ankles says to stretch the tape? So confused
You are correct
@@aajohnsoutube so for ankles you stretch the tape? And for everywhere else you do not stretch the tape?
can i use kinesiology tape for hamstring strain ???
Hey bro did you try it? I've got the same injury
@@killianbennett8985 Nope i haven't ...mine took 3 months to get recover .. don't worry if you take rest and do some little hamstring exercise it will be healed by own
@@naba2247 3 months damn, how did you get the injury. I got it through sports and I have a game on Friday that I can't miss, injured it 9 days ago and I thought I'd be fine by now but it still hurts if I run quicker than a light jog so my coach advised to use this tape along with stretches.
@@killianbennett8985 oohh you can use it may be it works ...it doesn't take 3 months for everyone ..it depends on how much you have injured ...if it's stage 1 it will take 10 to 15 days ..but in my case ..i neglect it in played with pain ..so it took me 3 months ...if you take proper rest ..it will recover within 10 to 15 days
@@naba2247 ah ok, this game i might play a less involved position with the tape on. Thats the only time I'm going to take putting pressure on it ill try rest it completely after that. Did you do stretches or just rest
I'm in favor of using KT tape. However, one issue I have when discussing the awesomeness of this product outside the allopathic community is the lack of scientific literature. Has there been recent studies to demonstrate a positive correlation?
Hi Jesse,
I wish there were more rigorous studies to show the benefits of kinesio tape. In my private practice I follow the three tenets of evidenced based care:
1. Use of best available scientific studies.
2. Clinical experience and expertise
3. Patient preference
KT tape is inexpensive, easy to apply, doesn't have any horrible side effects (skin irritation being most common side effect), and can even look cool. I use it and check in with the patient to see if they are noticing that it is helping them. I don't find that it helps everyone, but some patients really feel a benefit.
It could be placebo, but if I can make a patient feel better, have less pain, with minimal side effects, I feel that is me practicing following the majority of the evidence-based care tenets. Hopefully, robust scientific studies will be forthcoming to help us understand what conditions KT tape helps with the most, how best to apply it, and when KT tape application is not going to be of benefit. Thanks for your comment and question.
Currently, to my knowledge, there is no scientific literature about KT tape that would prove any effect beyond placebo. This doesn't seem to be because there are no studies, it seems to be because KT tape does not achieve what is promised or does/cannot work the way people expect it to work. Taping something on the top of your skin is unlikely to affect anything under it (unless temperature or chemical agents are involved).
KT tape, seems to be in sports what is homeopathy for medicine.
@@salebetheria9135 So there are studies that show no effects on pain/ healing from taping?
@@kwansikkim8712 no effects greater than placebo. Even placebo has a positive effect but for something to be proven as 'working' it must perform significantly better than the placebo.
But to answer your question more directly:
There are studies showing no effects on pain/healing from taping.
Today I learned 2 things. I am lasagna and how KT tape works.
We use it on our horses and ourselves
Lower back ?
Hi Cindy,
Yes, kinesiotape (K-tape) can be easily applied to the lower back and help with lower back pain in many cases. The best part is that it is easy to apply and doesn’t cost much to give a try.
Kinesiology Tape are only good for supporting and resting your injury but not for playing sports as you need right strapping tape to support your new or old injury.
Hi John,
You are correct that Kinesiology or Rock tape is not great for supporting a new injury like a non-stretch athlete tape does. But it can really help out with subacute and more chronic injuries by helping the proprioceptive feedback in the body. Thanks for your comment.
@@PositiveMotionChiro Thank you sir. Your videos and works are really good and easy to understand and its help my sports trainer job looking after many injuries players by trying to find what really work well to support my players injuries while playing...
Can you sleep with it? Thanks for sharing
Unfortunately, I can’t offer individualized treatment recommendations through UA-cam comments so make sure to check with your doctor for your specific case. However, I recommend it to my patients for use during sleep when they have significant pain while sleeping or when first getting up in the morning and for those people it can really make a big difference.
Will KT Tape help someone who swallows a harmonica? Asking for a friend. ;)
I know of which friend you are referring and unfortunately KT Tape doesn't help with harmonica ingestion. Best to avoid playing harmonica while jumping on a trampoline. ;)
@@PositiveMotionChiro Ah yes, an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure...well said Sir! I guess my plans to use a Trampoline stage for my Blues Traveler cover band will have to be re-thought. :). Love the videos, great work!
Applying without stretch goes against their own guidelines for application
Evidence really does not show any benefit apart from vaguely placebo. Any studies on this are so highly biased it laughable. Wrapped in complexity of technical jargon that means nothing substantial.. a real case of making the evidence say what you want it too..!good funny video mind 😂. This will always work for some folk regardless but trying to link science to it that just ain’t there… really ?? 😂

You all are nuts. Controlling the sensation in the ares does nothing for the musculoskeletal system that is actually functioning or especially not functioning property.
