I still remember the first time I ate at Wendy's 40 years ago. The all-you-could-eat salad bar cost about $2.00. And as a big, young man I could eat a whole lot. It even included some dessert items like pudding. Apparently, I was too excited. After enjoying my fill of salad, I took a big spoonful of (what I thought was) tapioca pudding. Turned out to be TARTAR SAUCE. Yuck! Not a pleasant taste when you are expecting sweet.
Fun fact - Wendy's was NOT the first burger joint to have a square hamburger as Dave Thomas got the idea from Kewpee Hamburgers. Kewpee's was a large chaim at one time but is now down to less than 10 restaurants where you can get one of their square burgers.
I remember going to the local Wendy's where I lived at the time. It was like a home made with real beef. The condiments were great. Working close by it became a place I would go for lunch a few times a month. I also really like the chili they made. And the Frosty's were delicious.
Wendy's has been a NASCAR Sponsor Especially in recent times with Noah Gragson behind the wheel in a one off event at Talladega in 2022 driving for Beard Motorsports in the #62 Chevrolet Camaro and the following season in 2023 driving the #42 Chevrolet Camaro for Legacy Motor Club and in 2024 they have begun their sponsorship with Trackhouse Racing sponsoring both of their drivers: Ross Chastain (Driver of the #1 Chevrolet Camaro) & Daniel Suarez (Driver of the #99 Chevrolet Camaro)
Wendy's quality dropped like a rock when founder, Dave Thomas, died. As usual with every type of business/corporation, once the founder dies or retires so does dies the company.
My friend David and I got to meet Mr. Thomas at the only Wendy's at the time in Daytona Beach. It was in the 70's. They used to have a salad and chili bar, we went in and there he was, white shirt and apron, working in the store. He was known to go around and actually work in the stores to maintain quality. Also, when you went in, the flame broiler was in view of the customers, you'd see the great from the burgers drip in and make the flames jump. I really do miss those days when quality mattered. I constantly write to corporate offices of big companies, making real suggestions about lack of quality and customer service. It's paid off a few times locally but overall I think things are quickly falling. As far as Wendy's goes, I don't go, I'm a coffee drinker and I can rarely get coffee in our Wendy's stores around here. And the apathetic thugs and circus freaks they hire aren't helping.
My family got to try the burgers and fries for the first time in the 70s when Wendy's came to my town. But because it was a family dinner it was pretty no frills! It wasn't until my older brother and I went to one on our own that I finally got to try a Chocolate Frosty and it was pretty great!
I stopped going to Wendy's when got a couple of Hamburgers over time that were rare. It was a time when small children were dying from food poisoning. It's been many many years sense sense I have been to windys. 😊
Wendy's used to be one of my favorite fast food restaurants, but lately it seems as if they have employees that don't really give a damn, and the quality of the experience at their restaurants isn't what it once was. Combine that with the ridiculous prices that they are asking for their food now (my boss recently paid $15 for a combo meal here in Utah when she went to a dimly lit drive-thru), and I seldom go to Wendy's anymore. Dave Thomas must be turning over in his grave if he can see what has happened to his restaurants.
I used to love Wendy's but in recent years the quality of their food has declined...after many consistently cold, stale- tasting and disappointing meals from several local Wendy's I don't eat there anymore. It used to be the best and freshest tasting fast food around-the Big Classic from the 1980's was great. They ruined their fries though about ten years ago not long after that the rest of the food went south too.
Wendy's used to be special. Now it is ruined by horrific quality - bland beef - awful french fries - even the frosty has been ruined - that is not the original formula being used now. I remember when at a manager's meeting in the 1990's where the Wendy's President was asked if Frostys would ever be in any other flavor other than chocolate and he responded "over my dead body". Well, Wendy's has gone down hill after Dave Thomas died and an infusion of worthless and lazy Pepsico people has transformed this chain into expensive and ordinary food where quality has disappeared. Thankfully I have a real excuse to eschew fast food 3 years ago with a diabetes diagnosis, but my least favorite place was Wendy's - a shame since i used to love it. Once they changed their fries to the awful ones that allow them to double the hold time, I never visited again. I almost gagged when I tried the new formula of frosty.

I live in Lima, Ohio. We have the oldest operating Kewpee Hamburger operating here. We have 3 total.
I still remember they had the best .99 menu ….. my order was 2 jr bacon cheeseburgers, chili and fries. All for $4 ! Good ole days for sure 🎉
Thank you for posting 👍👍
Wendy's is a good product. We patronize at least once a week. I consider their menu above Burger King. Love the Frosties.
Fun look at Wendy’s!!! Loved the Where’s the Beef ad campaign!!! Used to eat there- may try again! TFS
🤣I loved those commercials in my childhood.
WHERE'S THE BEEF?

There are exceptions though. We can still have Wendy's qualities restored to its former glory.
@@reneastle8447 Only thru a total change in top management. Raising prices during peak hours is their latest policy. :)

By far the best among all other commercial chains!...Its my favorite.
Use to love the old Wendy's tables with the Newspaper prints from the late 19th/early 20th Centuries.

I haven't had Wendy's in so many years, maybe 30 plus or more. Seeing this reminded me how much I liked their chili and frosties.

Bummer. Happens to all of us at times. I had a rough experience at an Arby’s that I am still mentally recovering from.

He stole it from Kewpee here in Lima.
Stole what?
Boy, they sure make awesome burgers!💯💫👍!
