Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing. So many similarities from my childhood. Stained glass windows, wooden pews, quarters dropped into the offering plate, dresses, hats on women, shiny tile floors and shoes, Sunday School, big meal with dessert, family day- no visiting friends- good to reminisce. 💓
My Mom, my Brother, and I, used to go to our Aunt Grace's house, and enjoy Roast Beef Stew, complete with Carrots, Tomatoes, and other Vegetables. It was delicious! (I gotta shut up now....'cause I'm gittin' a hankerin' for a bowl of that good ol' Roast Beef Stew again)!!!
I'm south African and it was exactly the same. Church at 9 AM then back home for that special lunch..and it was huge those days. It was a roast ...beef or lamb and chicken curry and yellow rice with pumpkin and cauliflower and potato salad with beetroot salad of course. Then it was canned peaches and jello with custard and or ice cream. How much I miss those days
Nice Norman Rockwell Sunday but it wasn't like that at our house. With buddies playing outside was about my Sunday just another day of the week back in the 50's. Mom dressed us up Easter Sunday & we went to church, that was it. I don't remember dad being with us so how we got there I don't remember. Nice video for the ones that experienced Sundays.
I wasn't raised in church home either. Later in my childhood I began to hate Easter, because some of my friends who seldom or never went to church went to church. In 1971, @ the age of 15 that changed.
I was a young boy in the early 60s and it was similar. Sunday was always church and family day with a big Sunday dinner in the afternoon. We could use some of that today! God bless you and yours always and thanks again for all you do! Thanks for the memories!
I was born in 1956 and remember stores being closed. I didn't grow up in church, so Sundays were not much different from Saturdays. I was SAVED in 1971 @ the age of 15. Sundays became a very special day
If we could get families to sit and eat together. Mostly it seems like drive through burgers or nuggets and spend time perusing social media, no conversation. I miss this family time.
I'm 76 years old and I remember all of those things. It was a MUCH better time for everyone. And when people left church they all tried to be better people. I miss those times.
We couldn't buy much of anything on Sunday. Drug stores were open part of the afternoon. There was often a one o'clock movie, but none later; you were supposed to go back to church. Then we came home and "Lassie" came on. The new week had begun.
I grew up in a mostly Lutheran small town in the Faroe Islands in the 1990's and early 2000's. We went to mass with my parents and sunday school with most of my friends from school in sunday clothing. The social norm was so that no one mowed their lawn or washed their cars on sundays. If we didn't go to church on a sunday we were prohibited to play outside during mass, so that we didn' disturb "the sunday peace" as my mom used to say.
I remember the blue laws, prohibiting business on Sunday. It was too bad for the Seventh day Adventists and the Jews, both of which observe sabbath on Saturdays. They could not conduct business on Sundays. Some shop owners may have had non-Jewish or non-Adventist open and do business on Saturdays. Possibly there was exceptions in the blue laws that permitted those who had sabbath other than Sundays to be open on Sunday.
@@yvonneplant9434 its was better than today. way too much division caused by our president Biden when i was a kid people weren't burning and looting as they do today .
What a sweet little video. Thank you. 6:03 stop now, you'll make me cry. It's okay. Life just goes on. You will (hopefully) always have the memories. We'll be okay. I'm alive. You're alive. It's okay. ❤❤❤🥧🥧🥧😁😁😁📿📿📿
No todays sundays aren't like in the 50's. You had to have a quiet peaceful afternoon because stores were mostly closed. Today, Sunday is almost just another day.
I'm not old enough for the 50s, but in the church I went to in the 60s we still got all dressed up. I detested dressing up as a child, so it made it hard to get excited for church. As a Lutheran, I had to stand through 4 verses of 6 boring 17th, 18th, and 19th century hymns. I always thought, "Does God really want to listen to all of this?" I always envisioned a God who didn't want us to waste his time. Now, the best part of the service was the sermon. For me, all the rest was simply filler. I appreciated New Testament sermons on how to treat our neighbor, including the hard done by and those with a hard shell, like we would want to be treated. Just today a man came through a sandwich shop, where my wife and I were having lunch, and was asking for change. Another man was prompted by his wife to buy the man lunch. That's Jesus in action. Never did my pastor preach about what party to vote for, nor did he raise a politician up to the same status as Jesus. Religion today is a mess, far to much intertwined with politics. Jesus had no concern for earthly politics; his kingdom is in heaven.
Here in Indiana where I live it's only been in recent years that alcohol can be sold on Sundays. I recall being an acolyte in the 1960's at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. The church sanctuary seemed so large, but when I was back there for a visit years later, it was so small! I encountered some wonderful people in my early years and I hope that I will be remembered the same way by the young people in the church I now attend.
I agree 100%! The way people dress for church, God's house today is horrible. They come in jeans, shorts, flip flops, just plain sloppy and unkempt. The pastors are the worst. Most now wear jeans and un-tucked shirts to bring God's word. Most people dress better for dinners, weddings, etc than for God's Holy house.
I wonderbqhy somw stores ooen kn Sunday. Check out a Lowes or Home Depot on a Sunday afternoon... not a lot of foot traffic; how can it be profitable to stay open then? I think they still close most stores in Bergen County New Jersey on Sunday, but not sure. I find shopping on Sunday to be a little depressing
Why does this need to be a beautiful memory?? The truth is that it does not! There are beautiful churches of every denomination which sit pitifully empty every Sunday morning which would welcome you and your family with a welcome heart. Your past doesn't matter, your present you can change, your future hangs in the balance. . . PLEASE come back to church!!
Americana: Seemingly a thing of the past. A lot of the traditions are long-gone. We live in a new age, many people say. Look at what has happened, since then. We've got the Charismatic (Ecumenical) Movement, that reared it's head back in the late 1950s-early 1960s. A large part of that was spawned by a mix of all of the mainstream "Religions", even including some of the Pentecostal and Catholic Movements, that just swallowed up any "New Revelation" that seemingly popped up out of nowhere! Now, with the exception of those Movements, who chose to hold on to what The Bible teaches, we have the "World Church", that teaches all "Love, love, love", and no True Repentance! The following subjects are not allowed in the "World Church": No preaching against Sin. No preaching on Bible Holiness. No preaching on True Righteousness. No preaching on True Repentance. No preaching on Hell, or The Lake of Fire and Brimstone. No preaching on the Righteous Judgement of Almighty God. These subjects are absolutely forbidden to speak on, in the World Church. I wonder:What will they say, when they have to answer for holding back, and for not telling them the TRUTH of God's Holy Word?
Our Sundays are still like this. Doesn’t have to change.
Same
Lucky. When everything changes around you it can happen you suddenly look around and no longer recognize the world around you.

But regardless I had a good life unlike millions of other kids throughout the world.@@KMF3

Even in the 80s this is how it was for my family on Sundays.😊

I would love to go back to the 50’s.
No. People still got polio. And I almost died from measles in 1958. Neither of those things are pleasant memories.
I was born in 1963 but I remember many of those things. Yes I miss them.
Boy, did you get this right - all the way down to watching the Ed Sullivan show! lol
Born in the late 1950s but my mind heart and soul belongs there not 2023. I have been told I am an old soul. You won't get any argument out of me.
Churches now often have rock music accompanied by guitars and drums and synthesizers. The pastor often doesn’t wear a suit, just polo shirts and jeans
That's another reason I stopped going to church. The ridiculous intro of inappropriate pop music.
This is very much how it was for us. Loved it. Beautiful times. 💖 🙏
Wonderful channel. Sundays were so special
There are a couple of Lutheran communities nearby that ring the bells on Sunday.
Church bells still ring in Philadelphia every day. Especially the colonial / historic churchs.
Fun!!!!!
I even remember when the stores were closed on sundays.
Sure miss them times.Hate the way the world is now.

Some places had blue laws that required stores to be closed.
Many stores prohibit the sale of alcohol on Sunday mornings, but they do sell alcohol beginning at noon on Sunday.
We can all still have Sundays like these.

Show from the Bible where Sunday is a special day in God's eyes.
There were many churches that had Sunday Night services also.
Let's get people back into the churches again, God wants everyone to remember him and to obey his word.
Love this🙏
When people were real.
It was illegal for businesses to be open on Sunday. Blue Laws.
In PA that was true.
That is how it should be! Sport is problem for me on a Sunday.
You described how it was in the 1960s as well; for my family, anyway.
This was when America was great. We knew who we were.

I stopped going to church because, over time, there were just too many hypocrital people.
In those days people knew each other better. There was more unity amongst the neighborhoods, churches, schools, etc.
