  • Although he had promised Yoda that he would return and finish his training, Luke Skywalker actually didn't return to Dagobah until one year later, during the events of Return of the Jedi. Find out why the trauma of his duel with Vader on Bespin forced Luke to view his Masters differently...

Love the channel, my fav by far!
Is there any information that would be video worthy that details the self-training Luke did during that year. I’m amazed how “powerful” Luke was with only his seemingly short training in film EP 4/5. How did he train himself to “compete” with the likes of Darth Vader in a 1v1 (depending on how conflicted you feel Vader was during the fight in EP 6)

Thanks! I actually have a recent compilation of what Luke did between TESB and ROTJ: ua-cam.com/video/cgvpf_cfdXU/v-deo.html

Luke Skywalker is the master of his own destiny and Yoda lied to him

Perhaps the question should be: 'Did Luke go back to Dagobah before ROTJ?' You see I never presumed that he didn't go back between films. Are we only led to that conclusion by the lines, '...and I'll be back, I promise...' combined with, '...I've a promise to keep with an old friend...'? Because, of course, it has to be the same promise. He couldn't have made another promise to return during the time inbetween.
In the meantime, Luke's powers have developed and he's mastered the art of telekinesis, of Force choking, etc. He improved on his own? No help from Yoda? I thought that only happened in Disney Star Wars. Anyway, wildly varying opinion here (nothing new that for me), Luke DID return to Yoda before ROTJ.

Luke most likely went on many adventures between Episode V and VI, I like to think he found as much knowledge as he could about the light and dark side of the force, through holocrons. Yoda gave him training wheels and after he fought Vader those training wheels were gone.

I think it's obvious he had never returned to finish training with Yoda. He never would have stopped hounding Yoda about Vader being his father if that were true. IMO you can clearly tell just by watching the movie he hadn't been back.

The title of this video was my question when i was around 10. When it came out.
I was like... Why didn't he go back to Yoda after the events of Empire to finish training. ... He basically ditched Yoda until it was convenient for him to see Yoda

Here we come to the joys of me being willing to look dumb on the Internet, but I would think at least a bit of it could have been his hand? In RotJ, after Luke's prosthetic hand gets damaged, he puts the iconic black glove on it, and I was always willing to believe that, in part, he was hoping Yoda wouldn't notice it; draw attention to the fact that he had left before he was ready, and lost something, as a consequence. Prior to that, I'm uncertain really how long it took Luke to actually master using it? It was his dominant hand, and even with the Force, it likely took some time to recalibrate his actions, yo account for it. 90s me always thought it had been closer to two years between Empire and Return, but if it was only one, that was even less time for the therapy, if you will, of coming to terms with having it, using it, and getting back up to par with it for combat, and fine motor control. It's not as deep as wondering if his mentors were manipulating him, and trying to figure other things out, and maybe quality, skill, and the Force just made Luke ready in days, but I always felt like it might have contributed. He didn't want to reveal to his master his injury, or offer concerns about his possible loss of skill.

How could the Jedi believe the Sith were extinct and also believe there would be a chosen one that would destroy the Sith ("You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!") and restore balance at the same time? Wouldn't they be under the impression that the chosen one had already came?

I hope that in the future that Disney remakes the sequel trilogy to give Luke a better conclusion

The full story hasn't been made yet. Its revealed in the canon comics that one of the Uggnaught workers on Bespin found the lightsaber in the trash. Somehow after a few decades, it wound up with Maz

Luke I know that you think you can't trust me.
I'm a liar that you just shouldn't believe.
But please know it's all true.
From a certain point of view.
You said your name was Ben.
    Well, it's Obi-Wan.
You said my dad was killed.
    Close now, ain't this fun?
    Cus technically, it's true.
From a certain point of view.

No... only whiners and pointless complainers know that. Dave is better at Star Wars than Lucas ever was.
I've been a fan since New Hope was released...Prequels, dumb as fuc*. .. 7, 8...dumb as fu**... everything after, brilliant.
Just so you know... the whiney Disney crap is getting old and pointless. It's just a trend at this point

No, the reason luke didn't return to dagobah until RoTJ is because disney prefers to hire crappy tumblr fanfic writers rather than talented writers.
