Hey friend! I currently living in Southern Maine, but I’m also a Pennsylvania girl. I hail from the most North Western part timer the State. Bradford Pennsylvania I love your approach. New to watercolor. Love it. Soaking up all the tutorials I can find! Thank you!
Hey Friend. Love your channel and your lovely happy voice. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and all that you do to help us make Art for joy's sake!!!
So glad to have discovered you. I have been stuck in my painting for awhile and I realized it's cause I am not having FUN. I have been trying to hard to be "good" at it and really I just want to have a creative outlet for myself. Thanks for the inspiration!!
Sometimes when I'm practicing my own leaves or flowers I will just replay one of your videos just to hear your descriptive and soothing narration. Reminding me to press drag and lift, turn my brush this way and that, grab multiple colors on my brush, lifting color, then go in with detail. Not painting in any particular order - which really takes me away from the dominant analytical left side of my brain. Then of course I glance at your video for color & inspiration! Thanks Kristy!
19:59 Hi there! I've just taken up watercolors. Your videos have been life changing. I have been in tears in the last two classes I took. Ok, so in the first one, I waited until I got to the car to cry, but ... this video is so encouraging. My picture is nothing like yours, in fact, it's a hot mess, with " leaves" all over the place, but I think I'm getting the feel of the drag and lift. Yes, I'm pulling my brush up too fast, lol. Thank you. Off to add more leaves and practice.
Hey Friend!!!! I am a new painter (age 63) and I am new to your channel and LOVING it and you!!! Can’t wait to receive my brushes and your book! I will be getting caught up on all of your videos. I have been stressing so much on leaves and today I have learned so much and wont be so hard on myself. Love your personality!!!! I will be back, friend❤!!!
Hey friend! Doing some Saturday painting and love hanging out you Kristy and this community while doing so! Loving my brushes and keeping my fingers crossed that the paint comes out soon (planning to save Christmas monies so I can treat myself when they do!)
Hey Friend! I love watching your videos and always find the extremely inspirational! This one is no exception, simply gorgeous! Thanks for all you do. BTW...I can't wait for your paint palette to be released!
Kristy, I did it!! No, not this gorgeous painting, although I’m about to go and practice and give it a go. I mean, I ordered your palette, your Art for Joy’s Sake Journal and my second set of brushes from you, the ‘Fear Has No Place Here’ one (I am in LOVE with my first set!!). And I’m SO excited about your new BEAUTIFUL palettes which I definitely have my eyes on as well. I know I’m late to the game commenting on these older videos, but oh my gosh, Kristy! I am learning SO much from you, you are such an inspiration and so much fun. You bring everyone so much joy, so thank you ❤️👏✨🇨🇦
Kristi I can’t thank you enough for the inspiration you give me. Your style really speaks to me, and gives me the encouragement I need. I’m dedicating my summer months to painting along with you several times a week. I’m just a beginner that can’t draw, but I’m a pretty good quilt artist, and determined to paint something I can be proud of.
Hey, friend! I enjoyed spending this time with you. I'm getting the hang of making leaves with the dagger. I think I'll fill a whole page like this. Great practice!
I love this new leaf video. I love your more subtle leaf video and have done several practices with it. It's wonderful. It's great to have another look at the brush strokes and your free and fun color choices! Thank you.
Thank you for this inspiration. I feel my painting mojo coming back, and it will be in pages and pages of leaves. My palette is SO bright, so I’m seeing how I can tone it down with more water and some color blending. I have watched with an eagle eye and done some screen shots to learn how to lay out a pleasing flow. Keep on keepin’ on. We need you. ❤
Hi from Germany. I love your way to make art work for everyone. I just started watercoloring and you inspire me too much. You make me feel not being afraid of using the materials. Kisses for you!
Hi Friend!! This was so helpful and made me feel I could do this! You totally get me! Lol thanks Kristy and I love love love your pallet and brush set!❤
Hey friend! I love all of the different leaf shapes you made, I'm going to replay the video and paint along! I was amazed at the difference it made, when you added those leaves close to the orange leaf!! 😳 I love hanging out with you, thanks for another wonderful video! 💕
Oh gracious Kristy! You are amazing at engaging your audience! I truly DO feel like your friend! Another STELLER lesson I will treasure!!! Thanks for sharing!
Hey friend- so glad I discovered your channel! I tried to learn watercolours a few years ago but got to the point of frustration so I put all my supplies away- now that I found you I can’t wait to get my paints out again and follow your techniques. This leaf painting is gorgeous!💕
Thank you Kristy for the helpful tutorial as I continue to struggle with painting leaves! Can you please tell me how you figure out dagger sizes where they don't list the inches but a number? For example - I really like the Princeton Velvet Touch ( I didn't like the Neptune series as it held too much water) and only see a 1/4 dagger which I got and they don't have an 1/2 inch. What does Dagger Striper, 6 mean? Sometimes I see just the number listed and have no clue what size it is. Wonder if there is some sort of tip to know? Appreciate your awesome videos and energy! Many thanks!
Amazing and great, what are you doing, unfortunately I can't find the brushes. the link to amazon ends at other brushes. i would love to buy them. Thank you 😀and greetings Gabby
Hey Friend! I'm still playing with these brushes. I"m still not consistant with using them. You make it look so easy. I love the whimsy of your work. The no making sense of color choices and just going with the flow. Are you going to do anything holiday related???
The more you use the brushes the more comfortable you’ll be. Remember to try a “fill up the page with strokes” exercise with each brush! Helps so much!! Yes I’m filming holiday content as we speak!!!
Hey Kristy thanks for yet ANOTHER inspirational video !! I struggle letting go and just going with the flow something serious and finding you has been a dream come true to help me work on that! I’m sure you have said before but I find myself really curious what brand of paint you prefer most for your style ? Like, maybe what do you gravitate towards first when shopping for new paint? Have you found 1 brand that you seem to purchase more of for any reason and if so what’s the reason? I’m on a professional pigment buying mission and would really prefer to stick to 1 brand just because that’s how I am ((complete set-ism is so a real thing for me)) and would love your input on this topic if you don’t mind sharing some of your wisdom with me :-) Thank you again for all your hard work and time me love and joy you put into all that you do ! I appreciate you more than you may ever knoowww!!!
Oh my gosh thank you for the kind words!!! So I LOVE this question and its hard one!! I love colors with unique personalities, so brights, colors that granulate, cool textures. But for the basics I gravitate towards Winsor & Newton or Daniel Smith…
@@KristyRice those seems to be the top response when I ask people what their preferred brand is. I ended up deciding to go with mission gold for their pure pigment line mostly and then branch out with some convienence colors I use most from there. If you adore extremely bright vibrant transparent colors then Mission Gold Class will hit the nail on the head for YOU girlfriend!! Have you ever used them before?? I have the 34 set of pure pigments and just purchased a lot of additional colors via private purchase from a group on Facebook and am looking forward to receiving those and sampling them . . .
@@pantalonious3984 ohhhh how funny!! Mission Gold is one of my fave palettes, honestly it’s prob a legit tie with Winsor & Newton! I love the gorg pastel-ish options they have abd yes the clean, truly ten sparse things personality of them is GOLD!!
@@KristyRice I am only recently starting to really get into the unique characteristics of different pigments and beginning to really enjoy granulation and textures in my watercolors. When I was a super beginner about 2 years ago I wanted the most vibrant and super smooth colors I could find. Like as smooth as possible as if it were printed from a computer or something. I wasn’t able to see the beauty and character and expression in the many textures and imperfections of the medium just yet. Now that I have begun to do just that it’s as if my eyes have been only halfway open all this time and I am truly seeing my pigments for the first time!! That being said, I chose Mijello’s Mission Gold Class for a couple of reasons, for starters the fact that it’s extremely affordable when purchased by the set, the individual tubes are very expensive (worth the money yes but still pricey), also they are the only brand I know of that offers full sets of single pigment paints, and while the pigments that are meant to have unique characteristics (such as granulation) absolutely have those characteristics they aren’t extremely intense or noticed. They have somehow made those effects more subtle by nature with the ability to be made more drastic when required very easily and for me that is exactly what I wanted. Adding on top the undeniable fact that these paints are the absolute most vibrantly pigmented and most vibrant and transparent paints that I have EVER used (and I have used a LOT of paint so far) along with the way they activate from completely dry with just the tap of a wet brush is truly mesmerizing. I have actually had to learn how to pick up less pigment with my brushes or use a palette for mixing more often because these are SO heavily pigmented I often got much more pigment then intended when I first began using them. This tells me they will last likely the rest of my life because a little truly goes an incredibly long way!!!
Love all your videos. They are so helpful. I have what some may call an "ethical" question about selling watercolor paintings on cellulose watercolor papers. As a beginner I can't afford 100% cotton paper right now, because I've invested in some Daniel Smith watercolors. I would love to sell some of my artwork. What is your opinion on selling artwork that is on papers like Strathmore, Canson, and other cellulose watercolor papers r 50/50 blends like Paul Rubens paper? Any advice and suggestion are greatly appreciated. Thanks
Great video! I always get stuck on leaf shapes all looking the same. If I want the background to be a different color instead of the white of the paper should I tone the entire page first or try to paint around all the leaves?
Well one of my faves one to paint over them with intense watercolor as part of a background area or just a cluster of dark leaves to cover them right up!!!
When you dab in the extra color, mine always creates blooms? You added that color on top of the eucalyptus leaf and it just blended….why is mine making blooms?
