Friends thank you so much for your support on this channel! I'd love to know what other flowers you'd like me to paint here!
Fireweed!!! I'm from Alaska and it is by far my favorite flower....but challenging to paint! I think the Larkspur in this video is helpful, but the Fireweed has a very unique center with a cross-shaped little frill thing. Perhaps you could help me learn to paint my cherished flower?
@@alaskangypsy Fireweed??? Send me photos!
I’d like to learn how to paint simplified bouganvillias.
@@Angie-pl3uw Ooooh I love this! Do you follow me on Tiktok or Instagram? I feel like I may need to do a mini lesson for this bloom soon in one of those places! @kristythepainter
@@KristyRice No, but I will. I love mixing on paper as it always does gorgeous things. I don’t always remember to do so, and I end up mixing on my pallets. I think that your mixing on paper is what makes you so unique!
I wonder if I am your oldest and least talented follower? Beginning a new hobby at 79 is a little scary. But, I am enjoying your work, your style, the time I send with you so much. Thank you. bb
How is it going?? X
It’s never too late to play with color! I started watercolor after retiring - this is a great site to learn and experiment with techniques. You’ll learn a lot from this gal. (I wish I had found her site sooner!)
Hey! Age has nothing to do with learning!! Be kind to yourself. Just take your time & keep an open mind. The only limits are the ones we impose upon ourselves!
I’m 65 and a complete beginner I can’t even sketch lol I just want to have a go. I am craft and work with parchment craft. Look it up on line
I’m so glad you wrote! I wonder if I’m too old at 67 but you’ve encouraged me! ❤️❤️❤️
I am a 30+ year floral designer. Thanks for the tutorial and your support of the carnation. It’s the workhorse of the industry, lasts long, smells beautiful and comes in many beautiful colors
I’ve always adored carnations!!
This is the art I want to do. I am blown away with how you are giving away all your secrets, I love it. The outrageous colours, they are so startlingly good.
Na not secrets, treasures!!
The very treasured Hydrangea
💙💓💜
I love everthing that you teaching me I just to learn fast only. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Ooooh that trumpet flower had me frustrated....buuut everything came together beautifully in the end. I'm working with the supplies I have and still making art every day, because of your encouragement! Wanna see how my 1st try turned out? 😊
I do!!! Dm me on insta!!!
Thank you for this. I'm a rank 81 year old beginner to be sure but I see here what is possible as I gain skills. I just love it and have been learning from U Tube videos the basics. At this point I need better brushes and paints to work up to paint some of these flowers.
So first your comment made me laugh out loud… appreciate that lol!! And second yes the better supplies will certainly give you more confidence!
Wow Kristy I sure am glad I found your channel. I have been wanting to learn watercolor but have been so overwhelmed. You make it easy. Not only that but you're not just a painter. You are a poet, a prophetess and a color romancer all in one big package. I can't believe you held me captive for 50 some minutes. It seemed live 5. I myself am a poet with over 20,000 poems under my pen. Now I want to paint my poetry with different scenes. I am really interested in painting abstract faces and wierd looking bugs. LOL Well anyway I will be watching way more of you.
Not only that but you like totally inspired me to start a UA-cam channel and present my poetry as artwork. Wow never thought of that before! I have way too much word art to share with the world and its been sitting in bags for over 10 years. Love your personality. You deserve all the success in the universe!!!!!!!!!! Steve J.
Let those words sit no more! It’s a perfect time to start a channel :) Thank you for all the very kind words
That was wonderful...almost sounded like a marriage proposal...good luck on your endeavors.. let us know when you start you...."poetry in motion".. that's what you should call your channel.. ❤❤❤
Carnations are my favorite flowers!!! I Just love them..
I have just begun learning to paint with watercolor, and I feel there are so many rules, but I am truly enjoying the journey thus far! I was following along with your video and when you started painting the daffodils I was right there with you - up til you painted 7 flower petals on it. your photo example even shows 6 outer petals. I only know this as I was learning to paint daffodils years ago while I was painting rocks with a group. I always liked to look up photo examples for my subject, because I try to keep whatever it is, to be an accurate representation of the painting I paint. I just wanted to tell you about the six petal phenomenon that are daffodils. I will continue watching your videos, I enjoy your enthusiastic style of painting and teaching. Thank, you!!
I don’t pay attention to those type of details all the time. Still looks like a daffodil so I’m happy. I’ve found it so helpful on my journey to start with a reference photo for an overall vibe but I don’t continue looking back at the photo as I’ve learned this causes me stress and steals my joy.
It’s funny this video has been popular but also has garnered so much concern for how many daffodil petals I included and my non-morning glory type leaves. Interesting phenomena!
Thanks so much for watching!
my flowers ended up looking nothing like yours- but they still looked like flowers! and i had fun with it despite them looking so different! Normally I'm a bit disappointed and frustrated with myself, but your tutorial made me so comfortable with doing my own thing 😊
Love that, I'm so glad!
Love this sketchy technique
I would love tropical flowers. I live in Florida, and summer Isco I got. Bird of paradise, hibiscus, ginger, curcuma., orchids. Thank you. Love pairing with you.I got up a 4;30 am, excited to paint with you.
Ohh good idea! Tropical is happening indeed!
you are a wonderful artist and teacher !! thank you !!!
Thank you so much!
I absolutely adore your energy. Thank you for this amazing lesson.
You’re very welcome!
Your are a great teacher and communicator. Congratulations! Thank you for sharing!
Aww thanks!!
I have watched this video only of yours, friend, and I have learned so many different things and I am so very excited to try some new things. You sound like my dear friend as well as this sweet little girl on Tiktok who gets ready in the morning and calls out “Hi Friends”. Back to paint I will follow you, follow you wherever you will go, because you have so much great info to teach us. Thanks
Ohhh thank you so much!!! XO
I'm so glad your videos popped up in my feed!
Well me too! Thanks for watching!
I’m a very new beginner and am loving your style of teaching ! You are making it so perfect for me to understand the different ways to use brushes to make different shapes and shading etc. As you point out each step so clearly it makes me really understand how to do things so much better! Thanks for going over step by step , it makes it so much more clear . Looking forward to following you as I move forward . Thanks for your technique !
This tutorial is a definite contender for the "Kristy Rice Hall Of Fame"! Perfect!!🖌🎨
Ooooh my gosh! So glad you like it! XO
First time for me to join you. I paint in other mediums, but I’m trying to learn watercolor and this was a great exercise. Some flowers are way better than others, but really loved your direction.
Wow, you’re super good teacher🤩 Thanks for showing us the strokes on a different paper! Please can you have a video for Peonies, it’s so so difficult 😥 Many Thanks
You bet!!!
I would love that as well.
Kristy I'm having a blast with your vids on leaves and flowers tonight, especially that morning glory blew me away. And you were right - Komorebi watercolor set brings a ton of joy (must be those crazy neons, lol).
That morning glory gave me fits as I was filming but it finally came around!
You are the best watercolor teacher EVER😍😍😍
Oooh my gosh thank you!!
This video is so incredibly helpful. I can't thank you enough. I also purchased your brush set and the Baohong Academy paper. Total gamechangers!
Wonderful!
I painted along with you and although my flowers look nothing like yours I'm pretty happy with the results. I'll keep on trying.
You paint with such joy!
Thank you :)
Fascinating! The morning glory was so cool, I especially loved the blue at the end. You're awesome for sharing your drawing wisdom.
Oh such fun because of your great teaching! Thank you for sharing your talent!
Glad you enjoy it!
Oh my goodness!!!! I love this. I have watched so many watercolor videos and NO ONE I have seen yet has used the brush damp ON THE REFERENCE IMAGE to teach and all this time... I thought I was catching on but when you did that... EVERYTHING clicked!!! You are A-MAZING!!!
Glad it helped!!
Thank you for this! I've just discovered you today! I've learned so much from this one video - and I've watched many many others. Your reminding me of using color & more color & more color is great! As a beginner it's easy to get "stuck" on one color... but the beauty of watercolors is that blend of colors. And your side instructions inside the video, i.e. leaves, teardrops, etc. are so helpful. Really glad I found you! Can't wait to see your others... but I just had to stop and write. THANK YOU!
I appreciate you sharing so much!!
You are remarkable!!! What a great teacher you are!!!! Thank you soooo much! I’m a beginner and YOU have taught me so much!!!!! ♥️
You are so welcome!
Best watercolor demo I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot. Such detailed instruction on strokes, brush holding, and color. Thanks for a true demonstration, and very useful tips. I’ve subscribed!!!!!
Wow, thank you!
You are an amazing teacher!Love!❤
Thank you!
You are a fabulous teacher! I subscribed when I saw you literally hold your brush over the morning glory image to show me th3 stroking for each petal. Looking forward to learning lots.
Yes! I do want to paint with you! Brilliant!
Wahooo!!
This is what I have been searching for! Great Tutorial, love your detailed instruction on placement and how much water and paint to load before we paint. Without that I have to rewind to see how your painted petals look so I can try and match the amount of paint you have painted. Love this one! It needs a heart not just a thumbs up. Its so easy to follow for us newbies. Your awesome!
Glad it was helpful!
There is NO way I can tell you how much I have learned in 6 weeks. Not just how to paint... but how to THINK how to paint. There is a diff friends! I do her tutorials, I watch her vids in triplicate and for the FIRST time ever I can say... "Hey? I like what I'm doing! This looks cool and I'm in control. And even more? I'm having a GOOD TIME!" Well done Miss Kristy!!! I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
Yay! Thanks so much!!
You’re awesome! Love the tutorials and your personality. Thank you
You are so welcome!
I have never liked carnation but your makes me like them. I had a dagger for about year and never used it but now I’m excited to grab it and try. I bought your pretty palette to give my mom for Mother’s Day to give her some of my favorite colors but it’s so pretty I bought another one for myself.
Hope you enjoy!!
Beautiful ! Thank you!
i would have loved seeing all the finished flowers together at the end
Hmmmm hint hint!
I have watched this video multiple times and each time I get a little bit better. I can stop and rewatch sections I'm struggling with. Kristy does a great job of giving step-by-step instructions while also being joyful and enthusiastic about the technique.
aww thanks!!
You are a natural born teacher. Kudos to you.
Thanks!!
Oh my goodness! This is such great practice for me because my internal struggle is perfectionism and rigid organization. My spice cabinet and pantry are alphabetized and everything in my closets and drawers are like soldiers at inspection. When I first saw your watercolor palette, my internal voice said 😱!!! I cringe and tighten my shoulders when I accidentally smear one color over another. 😂 Oh, wow, I have a long way to go in regards to relaxing and “don’t worry about that drop of water. Turn it into an amazing leaf.” Your style of teaching is perfect for me. I’m so insecure about every stroke and color blend. My one art class was in college. As an elementary special education major, I had to take the beginning Art 101 class that the Art Majors and Fine Arts Majors had to take. Our professor was a perfectionist - and my grade reflected my inexperience and inability to create acceptable, (to him), assignments. That “2.0” on my formerly “4.0” GPA took a couple of years to bring back up, and it felt so unfair. Of course, compared to those amazing artists, I was a fumbling toddler; but I felt demeaned, and inept. It kept me from continuing with painting and coloring kinds of crafts. You are helping me get through the PTSD that class gave me. Thank you so much!!!
I’m working on a video about “art wounds” because so many of us have them. The most important aspect of teaching creativity and dare I say art is making sure you give folks permission to fail. I hear so many stories like yours and it breaks my heart. All that behind you now, you are here and we have a lot to learn from each other! XO
That will be an amazing video, and I look forward to seeing it. I’m ready to learn, and to shed the traumas of the past as I learn to have joy in my art journey.🤗❤️
I just bought your book and brushes your using. I also got the paper your using. I hope I can do this. I’m a beginner with no drawing skills. I suffer essential tremors pretty bad so being actually perfect isn’t easy. But I don’t give up. I’m glad I found your channel. Thank you for inspiration. I have loads of different watercolor pallets. So I would like to use those.
Dear Kristy, I just found U. I mean the new line of watercolor U. I have your coloring books that are lovely. I came across your page by accident, as am in a block, have not been painting for a month. Said I need a refesher course in flowers 🌺. And there you were doing a tutorial about how to paint 5 or 6 flowers step by step. I fell in love with your approach. I am a very loose watercolor artist. Not to good at times, not to bad at times, you no how it goes. But you dear Artist are doing a banger job.Now after all that my question is are you going to show us all the flowers, most of us are in need to refresh. Well I will not keep you any longer, as I have Subscribed, and must get back to Kristy,s Paintbrush, by Love.
I will definitely be teaching more flowers like this, not to worry!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I love the way you paint. I am blocking out time to paint a couple of times a week.
Wonderful!
I`ve only just found you! I am loving your tutorials thank you.
Welcome! Glad you’re here!!
I feel I’ve learned more watching this video than I have in a long time. I can’t wait to get started. Thanks Kristy
I am so happy to have found you! So good and so much permission to create and be!
So glad!
So happy I found you! Love your videos! I'm trying to teach myself watercolor painting and I'm really struggling, but your explanations are fantastic! Thank you Kristy!
Oh my goodness ! Where have you been.. I learned soo much! I love love color. Thanks for sharing ❤️😊 can’t wait to try my self🌼🌸🌺
I’m so excited for you to try!!
I just found you the other day and have been watching your videos. My cousin said you were full of life and that I would love your style!. She is right !! I love listening to you and so feel like a sponge trying to get this to all make sense. I am new to painting period. Want to learn watercolor and Acrylic both so my mind is racing to say the least. I just ordered your brushes even though I have a bunch of brushes, but none like your so I though ok, I need the proper tools to learn with, so I will have them Thursday, along with the paper you are using. I did not have any watercolor paints, so I watched your video on all those brands, and decided to order Paul Rubens set of 35 5ml tubes lol and I don't even know if I will like it. I am sure I will. I have been drawing with colored pencil and graphite for almost 3 years now, and I am ready to take on painting. I so look forward to learning from you and I am slowly working my way through your channel. any tips you can give me would be wonderful. I am so nervous about it like getting on a horse for the first time !. I am playing some with my watercolor pencils. I know that technique is totally different but it is easy on the nerves lol
You ere a natural teacher! Love learning your techniques because you explain them so well and clearly.
I appreciate that!!
So pretty ❤
You are AMAZING!!!!!!!! ❤️💜💙
Awesome tutorial!! Thank you. Will be watching more
Glad to hear it!!
I learned so much!!! Brushes, movement, paint, style, and it's all very beautiful and some appear beginner friendly... almost all actually, but the there are those of us who are a bit timid about loose... ❤ Love your rich colors! And like how you talk us thru the steps and the reasons!!! I decided to to call these my Kristy pep rallies!!! With love from a California Gramma ❤
I'm so glad!
Love these flowers! I watched while cooking dinner and I can’t wait to get back to my paints to watch again and paint along with you. Even my non-painting family members were intrigued and stopped by to watch.
OMG YOUR NAILS!!!! GAH ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hahhaa thanks! I do loooove me some nail art, lol!
Morning glories have gorgeous, heart-shaped leaves. Yours are so pretty, but could be sublime with those leaves!
I started out struggling with watercolor because I thought there was a "right" way to do it, and I wasn't accomplishing that "right" way. But I discovered YOU, Kristy, and you've opened up the world to me with watercolor!! I cannot wait until vacation, when I have time to get out my supplies and give it another try. Thanks! You're amazing!!
You're so welcome!
I’m the same way!
Oh christy i am 70 years and a want to paint with watercolor so bad and you are so amazing, just love you already

Your videos are so much FUN! Thank YOU for Sharing, as I would tell my students :)
Glad you like them!
I must say, I love your tutorials! I usually work differently and more structured with my watercolors, but I wanted to switch it up for filling the last pages of my sketchbook and this video just killed it for that! I had so much fun with my paints and I think I've never really let them flow. Thank you for this little painting- retreat! :)
You bet!! XO
Thank you so much! This was wonderful!!!!
