You're really brave to mount the inverter and battery outside even if they're rated for the extetior.
It’s a good test if nothing else! Will try to cover some with panels to keep out of direct sun and rain when build is completed. I can’t remember seeing anyone mount outside on youtube so might be good info for someone.
I would have to mount mine outside too. I have no garage and no room inside our house 🏡. We currently have a 2009 Kaco Blue Planet Inverter rated at 2500 watts with 2500 watts of Astro Energy panels. Our inverter will have to be changed in the future so this looks like a neat idea 💡. We have ours Grid Tied and an agreement with FPL in Florida. Great video. God bless.
Agreed and I would be afraid of having it so close to my door when walking outside.
Thank you for another great step by step informative video, with these new eg4 products going solar is a no brainer for off grid applications
Thanks for watching!
Whoa! I didn't think that inverter was meant for outdoor use ..... UNTIL .... I went to the specs and I found this....
----> Fully outdoor rated (Avoid direct sunlight)
Nice job!!
Will be a good test! 👍
it is rated at NEMA 4X / IP65 both batteries and inverter. benifits to both, in some areas insurance wont allow batteries indoors, in colder areas outdoors would be a bad idea. for example.
cool video. Mounting it outside I wonder how often you will have to blow the dirt out of the heat sink? FYI: I am also from the South ,Miss, and dust in the summer is always around.
Good question! Not sure but we will see! Definitely tons of pollen and dust that may require maintenance here in NC as well.
Who needs to go to the gym? Just install solar batteries! 💪💪😂
Just so you know. that battery weighs over 400 LBS. I think Rodney is going to the hernia doctor soon.
Bam! Lol
Only 308lbs lol. 👍
Yeah just over 300, had to bring mine up 4 steps it was harder than my big gun safe lol. Now i gonna need to bring back down because i determined i dont have place to put it after determining no way we were gonna bring it up to 2nd floor. So im gonna do like rodney and get a shed put near solar panels and run line to main panel for crit load panel.
That battery is HEEAAVY
Indeed it is! Can’t wait to get it running and start testing loads
Love the content. Just curious at what point do you have to get permits or inspections? Personally I want an off grid set up but it’s a deterrent when thinking about all the hoops one has to jump through.
Well I would say obey all your local laws! But what I am doing is off grid only that when I looked required no permits. Now I believe in being free to do what you want but that is not legal advice lol. I didn’t ask but my stuff is all off grid no grid tie/ selling etc. You could always install a generator plug on your house then create a system you can plug in like a gas generator depending on how much you want to run. I just did it when it came to my solar. 👍
@@rodneyhunt I was actually thinking about doing a generator plug. Another channel on her made a nice 18kpv on a cart that made the whole thing movable around his garage. Thanks for the content.
👍
Do either the 18KPV or the 6000XP have Current Transformers ("current clamps") for monitoring L1 and L2 to avoid giving any back feed to The Grid if you choose not to provide any power back to the grid?
Yes! CT’s come with the 18kpv
Hey my friend. I just started watching your videos and I noticed that battery that you decided to install outdoors is rated -20-55C
-4-132 F
I was wondering if you may be taking a risk by installing your battery pack outdoors?
Not in our area. Mild winters normally in the south plus this has a heater if needed. Covered from the sun so the heat will not be an issue either. 👍
That’s awesome!😎 I wish I had more money to upgrade my Growatt system! Too late for me , because I just retired. I’m doing well enough with a lot less invested in my system! I love this solar system setups that they keep upgrading so rapidly!
@@rangerbob42 My growatts I started with worked great for me. You are better off than most who have nothing. 👍
@@rodneyhuntmy grid power has been knocked out several times within the last three to four years.
We had a winter storm about 3-4 years ago and I had just installed a propane wall heater. That winter blast had everyone around here without normal grid power for about a week! They finally came here and gotten around to turning my power back on and I blew a pole transformer and it was another week without power until they finally returned. Needless to say that propane wall heater saved my water pipes from freezing and bursting! I decided it was time for generators and solar power! I have been free ever since out here in the sticks! Life is good!
I don't like anything outdoors in our NC Sun.... But I see they have that pergola It will help some. Also where was your son with the 1st heavy lifting!
His was doing school at the time
RODNEY,I know the EG4 18k is rated to be installed outside, but I was wondering why you chose to install it outside? I thought this was a direct upgrade replacement of the inside three EG4 6k inverters to the one 18k.
Do you need both rigs to run your house off grid?
This is my parents house. My growatts have not been used since I replaced with the 6000xp’s. So it should be a good test for this thing on the outside!
Easy to get them started in solar if they feel it is not in the way inside as well
Good thing you're not in Cali. The new fire guidance rules say you can't put a battery within three feet of windows or doors.
👍
Hey curious if you had to cover the shipping costs when doing the upgrade process I have 5 6500ex inverters I plan to use for 2 18kpv and 1 6000xp unless I have to cover shipping
Well shipping was free but not sure if that was with the program or just the free shipping promotion going on lately.
Return shipping is covered for sure all the time
@rodneyhunt okay thanks I think that's going until Tuesday so I'll call to verify tomorrow
👍
what setup do you like better? one 18kpv or the three 6000xp?
I like them both. But if the 18k had more output I would like it more for my house. I use lots of power all at once at my home and need more than the 12k output the 18k has. But the 6000xp’s have been great! So just depends on your needs. 18k has many features the 6000xp doesn’t have plus quiet when not under a huge load or high solar input.
@@rodneyhunt thanks for the fast response. I think I’ll go the same as you! 3 6000xps for a completely off grid setup and probably start with 2 indoor power pro batteries.
I saw in an other video you recommend biracial sp. but I’m planning on installing them in a solar mount over some grass and dirt. Would you still recommend the bifacial or should I go for monos?
I use all mono at my house. I have the bifacial at my parents and they are more fragile so you need to be more careful when installing, moving, etc. First ones I ever broke are the bifacials. But the do have more output in the right scenario. I would still use bifacials unless you want panels that are less fragile then go with mono. Hope that helps!
@@rodneyhunt thanks for the great advice! Have a great weekend!
love your videos!
Glad you like them!
Nice job!
Thanks!
Does the battery have an internal heating mat?
Yes internal heaters
Good video
Thanks
👏
👍
I suggest never putting in a battery outside, unless you live in a warmer climate.
👍. They have internal heaters and it will be good to test. Southeastern NC so nothing extreme most of the time cold wise!
@@rodneyhunt
I live in the Pacific Northwest, was down to 16° this winter. Sometimes colder.
Most nights are above freezing around here but we will monitor its status and give updates. 👍
