    Thank you for making those videos. They really help to keep up to date with things. I’ll wait until it’s GA though, don’t want to join my hosts to the insider channel. :)

    Great video Dean, remote APP can be a great way of using AVD for many businesses while keeping the costs lower (compared to full desktop). Having One-drive there will enhance this experience. hopefully it goes in GA soon.

    My goodness Microsoft really should have had this ready years ago. Game changer yes, but kind of a fundamental requirement these days.
    But if you are using a multi-session image, is OneDrive not installed machine-wide anyway?

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  8 місяців тому +4

      agreed this should have been enabled long ago...if it was, then full desktops may not have become the preferred experience. OneDrive IS installed for machines by default...however because I was downloading and installing the latest version, which is required for this to work, I needed to show the proper machine installation steps.
      Thanks for watching!

    We just tried this on a Server 2022 RDS RemoteApp farm. OneDrive seems to work within Word, but not in Explorer when you click browse. I see a "OneDrive" icon in the Explorer left pane, but without the company name appended and when I click it nothing happens. I know this is in preview for Windows 11 AVD, but it should work in RDS2022 too right? Is does work with in MS Word, guess it should work in Windows Explorer too? It's working in your video at 4:14.

      I am not sure if OneDrive is supported on Windows Server??? Is it built in now?
      Also I have NOT seen any support for OneDrive Remote App on any OS other than windows 11...so I would not assume server 2022 should work too.

    This is really a game changer for small offices. Now i need to get rid of the File Server and move them with Azure Cloud Sync to an Azure File Share. The mounting for users like in the old world, has no video's yet. All Azure File Share is about FSLogix, what is logix :P. How to Dynamically Mount an Azure FIle Share through Group Membership would be a great video for the SMB market.

      Instead of Files Sync, you should look at my video on Storage Mover
      ua-cam.com/video/22FxyVN4l6c/v-deo.htmlsi=1C6FjjC0LWx1T5ax
      Can you explain more on your video idea, what do you mean dynamically mount?
      And is the mounting in the context of AVD or just in general?

      @@AzureAcademy HI Dean, The scenario for this project is that a client has a fileserver on premise (Storage Mover) or a file server in a third party IAAS solution (Azure File Sync). In this project the client has a RDS solution in his lokal provider datacenter and wants to move to a modern solution like AVD, but his users need more time adjust to modern work, so he wants the have what he had like fileshare and net use mappings based on GPO or login script.
      Imagine multiple (for the example 2) file shares for sales and operations for instance. We name them S: and O:. For this scenario we already have the files in sync (File Sync or Storage Mover) and we need to give users based on their group membership of sales or operations a letter for their file share.
      A) what is the preferred method of giving them those fileshares with the corresponding letter to multiple hosts that spin up on demand (with or without the use of Nerdio). I can imagine things like PS scripts from Intune, ADMX push from Intune, AADDS but prefer not too or local PS scripts. Christiaan Brinkhoff and Per Larsen also do not mention this in their Awesome book "Mastering Microsoft EndPoint Management"
      B) in the Storage Mover video you mentioned the transfer of NTFS rights. How does this affect the fileshare if you migrate from a third party active directory (lokale provider datacenter) to you Entra Environment if there is no Entra ID Sync.
      You can always drop me an email, whilst these are the challenges small enterprise IT staff at MSP's struggle with.

      Wow that is a lot of questions. I will try to answer them all.
      1. So it seems using storage mover or files sync you have already moved the file server data to Azure and you want to know how to map a drive to the user. First I would have DFS-N which will prove a consistent mapping to the file server data then use GPO or Intune to map a drive to the data
      2. Christiaan doesn’t talk about this feature in his book because it wasn’t public yet…everything keeps evolving.
      3. Storage mover DOES preserve NTFS rights, and as far as I know it pulls those rights from the file share, not from AD, of course there are AD users and permissions on the share…and it is from the share that it is copied and replicated.
      4.i hope I got it all, in the future it would be easier to answer the questions one per comment if you could ☺️. The UA-cam interface is kinda strange on this end - thanks again

    Can you please do a video how to setup and use SFTP IN AZURE to share files with clients for example

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  8 місяців тому +2

      Secure FTP can be done in a LOT of ways...what FTP solution do you use so I can see if maybe I can show that in the video.
      Also...does it have to be FTP? What about other protocols and services?
      what kind of data do you want to send over FTP??

    • @ahmadhalaby2011
      @ahmadhalaby2011 8 місяців тому +2

      @@AzureAcademyfirst many thanks for your reply. We dont have an ftp server as of now we share with onedrive to external but its not so professional specially if you want to share a tender for client for example.

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  8 місяців тому +3

      Sharing files is one of the main purposes of OneDrive...and if you asked me in any other conversation OneDrive is the solution I would suggest for this.
      Especially with many of OneDrive's features like controlling view vs edit
      sharing directly with a person instead of a link
      time limiting access to the file
      collaboration
      and more.
      So If it is just because you think FTP is more "professional" I would reconsider all that OneDrive can do that FTP cannot.
      If you are still interested in how to do FTP from Azure...let me know
      Also, Also...does it have to be FTP...or would you be ok to use another cloud service to do this?
      and what are your requirements for this project?
      Think about managing the files
      security
      high availability...etc so I can make the video answer as many of your questions as I can

    If having a WVD and multiple users logging in, how does the Intune profile manage the multiple users or is only the first logged in user getting the intune policy's?

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  8 місяців тому +2

      Windows Multi-Session is a unique OS version. Intune mostly deals with the User, So I assume the Intune policies you are talking about are USER policies. On Multi-session systems, each User will get the policy and process it. But Intune is still evolving with Multi-session. So if you assign Apps to users in Intune...the App will be installed on the VM...and unless you have user level app locker policies, other users could be able to run that app.
      So you need to approach apps differently in AVD then standard Intune, where you have only has to address 1 user per 1 computer.
      I will have more on this in a video soon...stay tuned!

      @@AzureAcademy thanks, you exactly know what I'm going for ;) Also consider the differences between using WVD with Azure AD / AADDS and Onprem AD/ADConnect.
      For example using onedrive or office and SSO into these packages the first time a user logs in and using one of the previous mentioned methods.
      Some have a preference over others where others lack some abilities. Using profiles (Intune) or policy's (AD/AADDS) etc etc.
      Keep going, like your videos!

    But why FSLogix? Couldn't OneDrive be the entire solution regarding user data? Using OneDrive, the user data follows the user... which is the primary function of...... well... FSLogix?

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  8 місяців тому +8

      That is a GREAT Question...I am working on a follow up video for this exact topic...I hope next week I will publish it. There are a lot of things to think about with FSLogix and Remote apps...and one of those questions is...do you even need it? Will also get into OneDrive and Profile Data...stay tuned!

    • @samueldockery7283
      @samueldockery7283 8 місяців тому +1

      @@AzureAcademy another consideration is that FSlogix doesn't support concurrent sessions, so if a user wants to access an app on pool01 and another app on pool02 at the same time, they will receive an error because FSlogix can't mount the profile to both sessions at the same time. This OneDrive feature only being available in preview is definitely a hindrance though.

    • @samueldockery7283
      @samueldockery7283 8 місяців тому +2

      OneDrive does a good job of storing user files, but user appdata is another animal. FSlogix helps give that uniform app user experience between different session hosts.

    • @AzureAcademy
      @AzureAcademy  8 місяців тому +1

      Sorry, but that is NOT correct. FSLogix DOES support concurrent connections it is just not normally recommended because of the added complexity. Watch this for all the details
