Ian! You almost had me at the beginning! 😭 The communal looks absolutely stunning. Another great update on this, I’ve really enjoyed watching these guys grow up 💙
I love your communal because you are one of the few that I've seen with a successful build this large! Most big name Tarantula keepers cant even get this right. And you make it seem so easy.
@@avavanpelt926 it will be more balfouri. I am planning on some other communal projects with other species this year hopefully but this will take some time. I would love to try Poecilotheria but I intend to breed them first so I have a good number of sac mates to do it with.
They are amazing. I don't want to do anything wrong so taking my time & getting more experience. Hours a day I'm researching T's lol. Main thing I'm unsure about is enclosure size xx
This is fantastic Ian! There’s always one that tries to get away isn’t there 😂 I have a communal of 5 slings which I absolutely love 💓 but this is just incredible!! 😊
I have a communal of 4 and I can’t wait to add more in the future. It’s beyond cool to see how fast they grow compared to having 1 in an enclosure by itself.
yea. thats so weird i think spiders maybe somehow evolved to live communally and simply most of them evolved away from it. so weird cause huntsman spiders and other social spiders also grow significantly faster communally. edit: i mustnt forget to say about huntsman spiders. they also have a main breeding female that mimicks the role of a queen but no genetic disposition is for that role so the oldest daughters fight for the role sometimes where males are seen as nuisances taking up space for they are meant to be few so in the captive experiment the huntsman "queen" and daughters all are more likely to kill a male than a small female. my own theory is that like in ants the male is meant to go out and spread the "queens" genes. not because they are any closely relate to ants or wasps or bees but because "theres only so many ways to create a bowl"
I'm sorry I can't understand English very well, I'm going to do a balfouri communal starting with 10 slings. I have 2 question it is possible to add other balfouri in future in the same communal? Will the new member be accepted or not? Second question in a communal with mature male and female are possible some breeding? Thank for your channel I really love it
Thanks for watching. If adding another comunal it is recommended to house them in a completely new enclosure. My next video I will be adding mixed communals together into one. Breeding can happen in a communal but if you want to breed I would recommend breeding females kept single as you will have a better chance.
Ian/Graham....just amazing guys! Stunning enclosure! Cannot wait for my communal of slings to grow so I can get on with building their forever enclosure! How many were in there altogether? Where there less than what you originally put in?
Thanks Amy. I thi k we were about 8 short from when we first housed them. Not bad considering there was originally 65. Good thing aswell is there seems to be more females than males 😁
Personally I would risk adding one to a communal if it has been kept solo for a period of time. It has been done by others, but it is much higher risk which I wouldn'ttake myself. Thanks for watching 🙂
Hey Ian, that was impressive communal setup! how many are they? I currently have 7 slings and planning to put together with 10 Juveniles. Your setup is what I am looking for ideas. yours is the best so far that I saw! congratulations!
Thanks. Sorry for the delay in responding. I took a bit of time off YT. There was originally 70. We ended up trimming it down to 25 adult females and still to this day are still going strong 🙂
This seems like one of the easiest species to differentiate male from female. So this definitely doesn't seem AS daunting as it would be otherwise. Either way it's still an amazing job.

Thank you 🙂 it is certainly a masterpiece. One day we plan on an even bigger one 😁
@@IanTarrantula That sounds awesome! Larger enclosure with even more Balfouri? Or a different communal species?
@@avavanpelt926 it will be more balfouri. I am planning on some other communal projects with other species this year hopefully but this will take some time. I would love to try Poecilotheria but I intend to breed them first so I have a good number of sac mates to do it with.
@@IanTarrantula Thank you for the reply! I look forward to your next communal project as well as this ones continuation.

Which kind of substrate do you use? It looks like a mixture of different stuff... Can u explain? Thank you
There is a mixture correct. Cocofibre, sand and some leolife.
What a lovely commune 😍.
I'm not confident enough yet but learning so I can have a small commune of 5 or 6 Balfouri in the future xx
Thanks Laura. They truly are a very unique spider. You won't regret it when you get them 😊

Super cool!
Sweet video. I am so proud of my 7 communal, but this is amazing to see. Great work Ian. Love your work.
What size are yours? They are one of the coolest spiders in the hobby for sure 🙂
@@IanTarrantula They are about 2 inches now.
Well, I guess I need to get me some Leolife for my single balfouri juvenile. Just got it 3 days ago. Great video. Thanks.
This is FANTASTIC !!!!!
Awesome video. I absolutely Love it. Brave too.
Hi Tina. Thanks for watching amd mot a problem. Glad you liked it 😁

Thanks. We have introduced a new male to them already and seen some pairing taking place already 🤞🤞🤞
Such an awesome job, it looks so good.
great vid guys it was so cool watching them all go back in =]

Any size communal is impressive 🙂
it's ok to breed T's from the same egg sac??
i had no clue :O that's cool! and alot more convenient ! xD
It is possible but I would recommend using unrelated males to breed
Cool👍🏼

Buy bigger terrarium !
