Crowdfund this man. This project needs to happen. Many of us have been looking for something like this for a long time. Great idea brother, and great execution.
I did the same to my inflatable raft - actually, it was the people at ummoc hammocks who did that for me as per my requirements. Very light, waterproof material was used, stretched over the tent poles and tied to the boat using carabiners. Slept in the boat for 53 nights in a row in the summer of 2021 and had no issue: no leaking, no condensation, no tearing, no discolouring. I slept with the boat either tied to the shore or to a log jetting out of the water. I do not recall how I got the idea to adapt the tent for the boat and sleep in it and on the boat, but it was one of the best I could have had for my trip. The freedom this offers is second to none.
@@TrueHelpTV, a Mariner 3 by Intex. I did not get charged because we are related - but they are very nice people, too, so they would not have charged me much if they had to anyway. If it was for sale I would’ve bought one by now. I’ve been wanting something like this for a long time. It blows my mind no one out there is doing this.
ooooh those zips sound very nice when you close them. Something about quality is just very satisfying. Expensive stuff doesn't just last longer, it's also better while you use it. If you can afford it, that is!
Great Idea, I did see an article many years ago about a canadian guy doing some of the great lake and sleeping in his boat with a tarp over the top. Yours looks well thought out.
What do you do with your gear while you're sleeping in the canoe? Can you put this up when you're on the water? Can you paddle while it's up? Does it make the canoe top heavy? Does it turn the canoe into a sailboat, making it catch the wind? It's an interesting idea.
Hi. Thanks for sharing this information and the video. I got a canoe that a friend gave me. And I used a jigsaw to shape some paddles. Now, I intend to borrow a belt sander to sand down the paddles a bit more. I was thinking about building out a canoe tent using PVC pipe that would create a round high top bubble and a tent material that would protect from sun and also I could use to sleep in the canoe, too. This video is very helpful and I will research further. Thanks so much. Be safe. God Bless you!
I live in an area with great rivers, canals and sloughs but "literally" all the banks have been highly engineered with steep rocky walls, fences, private property signs and farm land. Additionally, there are no campgrounds by the water so this concept solves a lot of problems. Questions: What about rocking and stability? If a power boat passes and generates waves, or if I just roll over in my sleep. Also, you have it moored at the bow and stern, which makes sense, but how do you do that with your cover snapped on unless you are wading in the water while you do that. As pictured, the canoe is right by the reeds. There is no way to enter the boat without wading in the water. Nor it seems any way to exit the boat without climbing out into the river.
you can put it up while in the water, its tricky and probably only doable by someone who is experienced, and my boat which I made it for is very stable, You can tie it up by havening long mooing lines that you then tighten from inside the boat.I have found over-hanging trees are best, but yes not always available..The mooring lines are tied on to the very end of the canoe, and the canvas goes over the top...I have also used an anchor at one end and then tied it on the other end..
I’ve never carried that much gear ,but then I have done a lot of long distance trips on bikes so maybe I’m used to it . Some times it would be more practical to set up on shore ,other times particularly mid flats , mangroves it’s very handy to sleep in the boat.its just a nice option
this is brilliant. id buy one in if it came in regular tent material. i probably wouldn't use it a lot I prefer to sleep in my bigger tent but would make a great emergency thing
This would be great for camping in northern Ontario. Tent camping is great on a canoe trip but I always sleep poorly due to fear of bears etc waking me up and basically scaring the crap out of me.
i would pay for that especially the heavy canvas one. i was thinking of building one and then i thought I'll have a little look on UA-cam first, and lowe and behold Exactly what i had in my minds eye.
what do you do about getting wet from the water in the bottom after a day of paddling? Its inevitable, and if you're sleeping out of the canoe you will have a good amount of gear. You would have to either sleep wet or take everything out and dry the canoe out, put everything back in and then pitch the tent. not to mention you need to get the canoe on the bank to even set it up. at that point just get a real bivy and sleep on the bank. This is a solution to a problem that creates more problems.
I think like every thing it’s not ideal for everyone. My canoe is for two people but I pack like im backpacking. So lots of room Inside for me and gear , oh and I just sponge out any water splash’s. The most valuable thing for me is being able to not worry about being caught on mud flats low tide Pros cons , each to their own I say . It’s very cosy oven when you could use a tent .
I like the idea very much!!! But doing multi day trips my canoe is always packed very fully and so the advantage of sleeping on the water is gone because there just wouldn’t be enough space for the whole gear and me sleeping in the canoe. And if I would have to sleep on land anyways I don’t see the necessity for this. I really wish for a good counter argument since I really like the idea of being able to sleep in the canoe…
Sorry slow reply .im relocating overseas and not in position to do much right now .but it would depend on what material would suit you . The one in the video was about 20pounds a mtr .100mm x150mm it’s called sunbrella .but you could go with any number of fabrics
Very nice idea!! I hope you’ve patented it . A very nice way to camp and be secure. Best to you and your camping ideas!!

I cannot say I am interested in owning one myself, but I LOVE the idea and interested in seeing you build it, and for people to use it.
Good idea, I have a cratch of the same material - excellent, permanent solution to last for decades.

I love how it kinda makes it look like an old working narrowboat!

Nice design! Looks well constructed with lots of attention to detail.

Good heavy duty design. I have thought of something similar, but more lightweight. I hope this does well for you!!
Nice design mate, and such a great idea.

Wonderful design!
I wonder if you can build a longer canoe and add a small sleeping quarters on it
Really nice design 👍
I’ve had this same idea forever. Cool
Outstanding mate.
Can you make me one for my Windrider 17?
I love it, great idea.
Will you doing any camps on UA-cam with this? Great design.
yes a plan to. just waiting for time off work.
Well there you are my old friend. I love this . Hope your awesome Gman . I’m off to watch your other new vids now .

Huh, I wonder if one can make the poles telescope turther to uold anet that keeps bugs off while floating back downstream

Where do you put your gear if you are sleeping in your canoe. If you can set up on shore, why not put the tent there as well?
