  • I get out for an overnight fishing trip and find that there's nowhere good for camping, so I attempt to sleep in my canoe.

Hi everyone, thanks for watching! This video was filmed from May 30th to 31st. The reason I say this is because, on the afternoon of May 30th, Nova Scotia implemented a province-wide ban on all activities in the woods due to extremely dry conditions and the risk of forest fires. During the time of this update, I was already in the woods without cell reception and did not become aware of the ban until I returned to cell reception the morning of May 31st. In the future, I will have a better communication protocol during times of uncertainty. Stay safe everyone!

Only 5 minutes in, but it must be noted that without knowing of the actual ban you still had the knowledge and respect for the land to not even touch fire for your own use. Props to you.

I just read the news about the Quebec fire leaving ash that is reaching my city in Norway, and here you are with a new video and local update. Internet is amazing.
Oh and, what would you do if woken by a bear while jammed down into your canoe? 😅

Hi Noah! Not sure if someone has already said this but if you replace the nuts on your thwart with wing nuts you can easily remove your centre thwart for sleeping or replacing when doing overnight trips.

When I was on a summer camp canoe trip in Algonquin years ago, the bugs were so bad that another camper and I got a canoe, paddled out into the small lake and slept. We floated to shore a couple times and had to paddle back out but it was still a LOT better than enduring the bugs on shore

What a great little trip though, shame about not catching any trout. It's heartbreaking what is going on with the wild fires, thoughts and prayers to all that have been effected by it and to all the responders out there riskiing themselves! I once slept in a canoe. I had no tent, made a fire, slept well by the fire till about 2-3 am then a cold front came in so I went into the canoe behind some rocks to get out of the wind. Definitely did not sleep but was much warmer. Would have been better off taking the canoe up on shore and use as a wind break I think. It was an aluminum canoe and I had no pad on this outward bound trip 1998 ish.

Oh ! First i saw your new canoe, nice one for solo expedition, hope you will put floating bags and skid plate, and maybe knee pads and straps for rapids. And yes so much fire on Quebec, we crosfinger and hope we will be able to make our canoe trips in july and august. Sleeping in a canoe, hum not sure, as a side slipper it will pay for me to put wind nut on the yoke and remove it. So hope all the fire will end soon.
