In 1984 Stevie won two WC Handy Awards, for instrumentalist AND for Entertainer. The blues is sort of held at arms length by some. The Handy organization has worked to change that. The awards are held in Memphis yearly, and are legit. On the podium while accepting the award, Stevie broke down and wept. He was inconsolable. Finally he gathered himself and apologized. Bass player broke a string, ripped it off and played on 3 string style like a boss!
I heard about a bass player that broke all for Strings but that son-of-a-b**** kept playing all night long so I heard
lol Stevie looked at it and just went right on to the next song with no delay
@@zorroonmilkavitch1840 And that was me
@@bekchanovj tommy the cat was my name...and I say unto thee
That whole band is nuts. That drummer was on fire!
He's The greatest blues Man in my book. I'm a Bass player for 53 years. Would have been nice to play for jim
He was and will always be the straight up best player in the room!!!! Just a beast that keeps coming at you, the tone, the tone….
They say people wear their heart on their sleeves... SRV wore his heart through his guitar and his music... gone way too soon but not forgotten....
He delivered the performance of a lifetime. Bless him.!
Got to see SRV in concert in the early eighties opening for The POLICE!Aloha from Hawaii🤙🏽
Yasss! I love this version! The additional percussion adds so much life!
Rock on gentlemen!
SRV the greatest guitar player of all time!!!!! That dude on the bass sure can pound it also.

If anyone hasn't figured it out yet ,this is the cream of the crop. Thanks for posting.
Right now Stevie Ray and Hiram are playing together in Heaven as we speak. Thank you Steve Ray Vaughn and Hiram Bullock for the great inspirations for me to play this wonderful guitar. The Fender Starcaster Strat is the best electric guitar in the world.
Man I forgot all about this show. Watched it all the time as a kid. Real instruments, real sound, real music.
The BAND got into this jam !!! U can tell .. Thanks ... Dave ...
Good Lord, what an incredible backing band. Stevie should have taken them on tour.
You don't realise how good he was until you go back and look at these old videos. Prince was damn good too, much underrated if you ask me....
Holy, f... me!. This has to be the best performance of this song. Soul pouring out!
Sending this to my sons and grandkids. To witness greatness is a precious gift that must be shared. If SRV was still with us hearing him live would be on my bucket list.
Masquedebe Very lucky that I got to see him when I was 15 and I think the crowd was only a few thousand people and then he died when I was in Boot Camp at Parris Island
Incredible band!! You can easily see that they were almost overwhelming for Stevie, but in a powerful positive way, it showed in his breathing and playing!! Omar Hakim is a powerful drummer!!! @4:20 Stevie takes a deep breath and realizes they have the song DOWN and he really cuts loose! Wow!!! Rest In Peace Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dave Sanborn.
Stevie's fingers were so fast on that strat that they got me dizzy watching. God bless his talented soul. The best!!
I saw SRV and DT at Reading '83 - they came onstage just an hour or so after midday. Absolutely blew me away.
absolutely perfect!!! SRV was a one of greatest guitarists of the World. RIP
BEST version ever of this SRV classic! (with apologies to Double Trouble) SRV kicks ass but, man, that dude on the bass: wow!
drummer too , those guys were up for it and caught the groove , that extra guitar added a big extra bang for the buck too
Ahhhh, ummmm, errrrr.....GAAWD DAY'UM!!!
No slackers here. When was this? 1989. Back when raw talent was abundant. Live sounded as good as recording.
We were all very, very lucky to grow up with so much great talent. Cherish it 'cause it will never happen again sadly
