30 minutes to get a new bus sounds like a blessing. Whenever we need a bus after a breakdown (Greyhound) it’s easily at least 3 hours if you’re lucky 😂.
Glad you said that. I wondered for a while what happens if there's an accident or something on more long distance busses. Atleast in city buses it can be replaced semi quickly. I just wondered "do they just have to wait ages or something".
People don't realize; we smell everything from the driver's chair. That is a good episode, I know you didn't ask, but it's a good topic. Driver's vent knows everything.
What our dispatchers have us do up in Portland is they take us out of service, have us make all our passengers disembark, and then *we* drive our bus back to the garage (the garage I work out of is in the nearby suburb of Beaverton) and get our bus switched out. The whole process can take more than an hour, depending on where we’re deadheading from and where we have to deadhead back to. But even deadheading is kind of a break, because an empty bus is always a happy bus - even when it smells like throw up 👍
Exactly how we do it in London. Nothing I love more than a throw up, especially when there’s a big chunk of my duty still left 😊

Yup. I've called it in, and I've sat and waited for hours, or told they can't get anyone to me and to just drive the coach back to the yard and go home and still get paid for the rest of the shift. :)
One time, I made a mistake and sat in a seat where it was wet with urine and I was pissed so when I get on public transportation, I don't sit down anymore. I would stand or I would used some newspaper. Luckily I had some spare clothes and went to the nearest laundromat and wash them ASAP. I didn't know that the seats was wet at time. A few days ago, a bus driver told me and my female friend that it was very rare to see us using newspaper to cover up the seat we want to sit down at. He told us that he also do that and sprayed it with Lysol before he started his shift and used the newspaper too. What a cool bus operator.
Man and people have the audacity to tell bus drivers they have it easy.
This really makes me not want to become a bus driver. If I smell vomit and lots of poop on my bus it would probably cause me to add more vomit (not because I want to but because the gag reaction would probably cause me to vomit too).

Sorry Kewan, nothing is worse than diarrhea. You guys in Sacramento are fortunate. Here in Bloomington, IN, we are trapped in a sealed box, with the smell of feces until we make it back to the bus terminal, which can take anywhere between 25 - 50 minutes. The guy who "had the accident" apologized to me as he got off the bus, I didn't understand why until I saw the back of his pants. He sat and poop'd in the seat directly behind the driver, and all I could do for my passengers to load and unload them from the rear doors. That was the longest 35 minutes of my bus driving life!
Las Vegas is notorious for for having the upchuck express or vomit comet! A lot of people drinking ride the Deuce bus up the strip. When this happens the bus has to go out of service and all passengers have to disembark so that the bus can be serviced. Sometimes passengers won’t say anything until the end of the route because they know that they will have to leave the bus.
In NY transit, it not just bus. Subway, commuter railroads too.
Unfortunately city buses have a lot of homeless drug addicts. Probably could have been someone going through withdrawals or overdosing.

Welcome to the club. I had 2 people vomit on my bus in the career of bus driving.

Down at valley transit in the fox cities WI when something like that happens the drivers will "call a coach"
As a bus driver in Fresno ca, you need a video about service animals and all the antics passengers do to try to bring animals on the bus.
Last Sunday, the city of Campbell had an Oktoberfest. Our light rail line goes right past it. Needless to say, at the north of my run, i discovered a "hot lunch". I wish i could post the video, it was under and all over three sets of seats by the opposite cab. It was all i could to keep from adding to it. I got a replacement, but getting to the replacement station, i had to shut down the HVAC and keep the windows open. That didn't help. I was so happy to get that car.
I remember before M60 went brt, there was tourist who got sick inside bus at LGA airport, they vomited. I gave up my newspapers to help clean the bus.
No vomit yet but have found, and smelt piss all over the back of the bus. People are super grimy!

I’ve been on buses were kids have sprayed fart spray, the bus driver threatened to kick them off if they don’t quit or quiet down
True story 2 different buses in one day. Had a old man pee and poop and left a trail as he waddled off the bus. Then after a switch out someone vomited. That day I wanted to quit as I was within my first year. Told dispatch I quit, till tomorrow morning. Vomit smell is the worst. When I drove taxi cab I used every cleaner known to man and still did not get rid of it.
I get bus sick. It’s embarrassing because I’m a bus aide so it’s embarrassing when it happens in front of my students
On the school bus, if there is warning, have the student puke in the trash can.

This is the only downfall about being a bus driver. We cannot kick people off due to their smell. If you see feces on their clothes or looks like they peed or an open wound we can refuse them from boarding the bus. I had one guy eat on my bus, he threw his trash on the seat in front of him. Then he peed on the bus. He sat there just riding. It was from the back door to the ADA section. I called it in. They pulled me out of service. I had to drive the bus back to the yard. Got cleaned and went back out to finish service. Last night I had a guy that was released from the jail. He had a very intense smell of not bathing and it was making me gag. It made the whole bus smell. That was torture but I was gratefull for him getting off. I sprayed the whole bus with disinfectant spray at a layover and that helped get the smell out. I havent had anyone throw up yet. But when things like that happen we just call it in and they see if we get a different bus or get it cleaned and head back out to finish our service.

Lady refused to leave the bus at the end of line after I repeatedly told her multiple times that I’m out of service at the last stop she didn’t listen so I knew she was going give me trouble and she did I had to call control and they called PD. PD showed up to take her off she decided to poo all over the ADA area smh 🤦🏽♂️
I’ve been a coach operator for about a year and a half. So far I’ve had a guy get punched and his blood put me out of service . Another time a guy vomited as I was pulling into a stop. Then there was the dude that crapped his pants and some got on the seat.

Puke, poo, pee; it has all come raining down on my bus. What can you do except to call it in and take the bus back to the yard for clean up...or dispatch sends a replacement bus out to you. Humans be messy at times.
That is one of the worst parts and you are not alone on this as people like Clawboss had to deal with this too one time when he drives his school bus
I got sick on a bus when I was young. I felt bad for the driver; it was. In the doorway. I tried getting off the bus in time. I did not make it. I felt bad for causing it.😢
When I used to drive public transit I was driving a New Flyer Excelsior and I only have the one passenger who was heavily intoxicated and I was about five minutes away from the midpoint and he threw up I called my supervisor to advise them and they told me put cat litter on it and driving the bus back 😂

Gross! Stuff like that happened when I took the school bus growing up, absolutely disgusting. I'd be off that bus at the next stop and just wait for the next one. Many nasty viruses such as Norovirus can be spread via that route so it's best to just run and run away fast. Unfortunately for the bus driver there's no escape. Best to have sanitizer and a KN95 mask to avoid breathing in virus particles. I hope in the situations you mentioned no other people got sick.
If people are feeling that sick they have no business getting on a bus or anywhere with other people. I think they should get fined for exposing other people to potentially harmful pathogens! At least they got another bus within 30 minutes, and they run frequently enough so the passengers didn't have to wait long for the next bus. Around here you could be waiting an hour or more to get a replacement, and with "NICE", they often don't even bother sending one so that run just goes missing for the rest of the day. And most bus routes don't run anymore often than every 30 minutes.
I vomited on one of our town buses last summer. I throw up when I get upset, and you know it, I was upset because I was coming from none other than the DMV 😬🙄...
According to all the other drivers in the company, all the other pukers have made it off the bus before puking, so I was their first 😅... Apparently it wasn't a biohazard though. The bus driver got me a bag and some paper towels and told me to clean it up myself 😂

Question sometimes buses switch routes at certain destinations. How are you suppose to know when they switch? Like at CRC 67 and 68 change into eachother when they arrive, like 67 changes to 68 and vice versa.

45 - 80 minutes
And long distance like
greyhound take literally 2 - 14 hours

I seen plenty of stuffs on public transportation like vomid and hair weaves all over the place. I had a lady pulled her pants down to take that urine at the bus shelter with me right there so i move and went to the next bus stop.
Yeah that is why you carry a bag with you just in case you have to vomit
But sometimes is similar with the drinks if someone is in the back in it falls over or you drop it yeah the floor would be all sticky on your shoes
I had one a couple of weeks ago. What ticked me off about it was the fact that he was only going 3 blocks, and as I pulled in to his stop, he let loose 🤢🤮 all over the front of the bus! 5 more sceonds, and he'd have been off the bus! 🙄😕🤬
If people start doing that as the driver can't see from front as the mirror are for for traffic they should have a camera man or someone else to catch it the hault bus then get get them of quick call someone else 😮

Anyone that can master that sort and the one across from it at S-1 has my hat off to them.
Buses parked in those two spots should be allowed to enter from the N street side.
It is disgusting as is but it can happen at anytime. Sorry you had to go through all of that.
As disgusting vomit is, it must be cleaned up none the less 🤮🤮🤮. I suppose it's safe to say that's a good reason to not be a bus driver. 😉
You're lucky that you can record in the bus i would get the sack if i was to record in the bus cause the company i work for has a strict no phone policy

Public transport is so disgusting. Today some lady who clearly looked like a drunk drug addict got up out of her seat and bumped her shoulder hard on the pole of the bus. She had more than enough opportunities to get off of the bus to be sick. I could immediately tell something was off about her: she looked drunk or something. It’s like I have a sixth sense for knowing who is going to be sick. Not 5 minutes after I saw her stumble to the bus door I looked away and my boyfriend was sitting next to me and he said “l think that lady is throwing up. Oh she is throwing up. Let’s get out of this side of the bus”. She was bent over right in front of us, right by the guard rail thing with a wall, throwing up her guts and we had to hurry and run from the back of the bus to the front of the bus before she flooded the floor with vomit and cause us get stuck at the back of the bus. We were on those long buses that look like a giant accordion. Before that absolutely disgusting ordeal happened, I almost got vomit on me that was all in between the crevices of the window seat smh. I’m vigilant when I get on the bus; I make sure I’m not sitting in pee, poo, vomit or any other disgusting bodily fluids. Last week I sat in poo skid marks on the bus seat. I wasn’t vigilant enough that day. Public transit is absolutely disgusting! I CANNOT WAIT TO GET ME A CAR.
